For the first time, an episode of It's Real with Jordan and Demi features two unrelated guests. Madilyn Bailey and Rachel Grae are both singer-songwriters, but that's where the similarities end. Bailey's debut album Hollywood Dead drops on August 23, and she's expecting her first child after that. Although she's excited for motherhood, she doesn't plan to take much of a break from music. The Wisconsin native gained fame on America's Got Talent with a song composed of negative comments from her YouTube channel. Since then, she's kept the momentum going with singles like "Doomsday in LA" and "Serious." Grae, on the other hand, is about to go on tour. She'll headline a show at LA's Moroccan Lounge on September 20 before heading out in support of Dylan Matthew. Since starting her recording career in 2021, Grae has released several singles including "Outsider," "Friend Like Me," and her latest "You Suck." Although she visits Los Angeles frequently, Grae calls the New York City area home. Listen to Bailey and Grae discuss how they write songs, their approach to social media, and their favorite guilty pleasure TV shows.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Rachel Grae over Zoom video!Rachel Grae is a forward thinking, rising pop star, invoking the youthful style of Olivia Rodrigo, as well as the wisdom and pure vocal power of singers like Adele. Today, the fresh face in music releases the video for her new track “Right Person Right Time,” following the mental spirals and what-ifs that define being in the midst of gut-wrenching heartbreak. Going back and forth between small details of a past relationship and the present moment of sadness, she reimagines the outcome of this relationship if little moments had been different. Here, Grae wears her heart on her sleeve, expressing frustration and sadness at the thought of a different moment in time when it might have been “right.”This new song comes on the heels of her two previous singles, “Friend Like Me” and “It'll Be Okay,” invoking sentimental emotions in listeners and showcasing a rare vulnerability in Grae that sets her apart. Through articulate and thoughtful lyrics that feel like they've been ripped out of the pages of a personal diary, Grae dives head first into topics that most might shy away from, making her a deeply authentic and inspiring role model to adolescents – or even adults – experiencing the trials and tribulations of vulnerable relationships. Nearing 2 million Spotify monthly listeners despite her career just beginning, Grae has seen great success in a short time, already accumulating more than 14 million likes on Tik Tok and growing both her Instagram followers and Spotify monthly listeners by 800% since May 2022.Grae is signed to FrtyFve, a London-based record label that transforms viral moments into long term music careers. Other artists signed to FrtyFve include Todrick Hall, Megan McKenna and more. Grae is managed by Groundwork Artist and repped by Wasserman Music. The rising artist will continue to release music in the coming months, with more songs to stream and more live shows to be announced. ABOUT RACHEL GRAENew York based pop artist Rachel Grae has emerged as one of the year's fastest growing talents. Her honest songwriting is the equivalent to a page ripped from her diary and addresses psychological, cerebral, and emotional responses to life's events, all delivered by her powerhouse vocals. With 1.8M monthly listeners on Spotify and 1M fans across social media, Rachel has delivered 25M streams to date. Rachel has been working with the likes of Rachel Furner (Little Mix, Craig David), Låpsley, Ed Holloway (Lewis Capaldi, James Bay), Nick Atkinson (Lewis Capaldi), Justin Gemmella (Bella Poarch), Geena Fontanella (Lauren Spencer-Smith), Nick Lopez (Em Beihold,Surf Mesa, Demi Lovato) & Adam Boukis (GAYLE, Aluna George), Dave Gibson (Liam Payne, James Arthur, Bruno Mars) and Adam Yaron (Maddie Zahm, Alexander Stewart, Sam MacPherson). Today our SONG TO CHEW is called A FRIEND LIKE ME, from my 'In The Hospital' album. The idea came from two nurses at Seattle Children's Hospital, Diane Grimm Gates and Penny Pefley. I asked my buddy Bill Harley to join us, and we won a Parent's Choice BEST CHILDREN'S ALBUM award that year. We included a booklet full of helpful notes about how the songs and stories help school-age kids and families who spend time in a hospital. I visit Bill, and we exaggerate some of our scary concerns by 'enlarging them' to be much bigger than possible. Our silliness minimizes the 'hospital fears', and the laughter creates a balance for the loss of control a child feels being away from home and school. The importance of a patient's affective state has only recently been recognized by traditional allopathic medicine as being a critical factor in people's ability to recover. This album has helped tens of thousands of children and families over the last 33 years. A BIG 'Thanks!' to Bill, Penny and Diane for their wonderful work , and thanks to you for listening! If you have any ideas about how we can get this album into more hospitals and to kids and families who need it, please get in touch with me. I'm Peter Alsop. They were on top of the world for a song, for a moment, and then...... poof! Gone like yesterday's news. That's right, we are talking about One Hit Wonders, those songs that just creep into your ear canal and take residence in your brain for weeks on end. The band name escapes you, but you can sing every word to the chorus. #FNKOneHit is giving these artists another chance at fame by putting their (one) famous song front and center in our setlists, and singing them for all FNK to hear. It's also the one year anniversary of the Friday Night Karaoke FB group - so Happy Anniversary FNK!IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THIS EPISODE: Mike's internet went out near the beginning of the episode, and this was salvaged with the audio we would save from attempts to reconnect via 5g (so there are less than the usual 10 songs, and Mike's audio quality is less than perfect after the 2nd song).Featured in this episode alongside hosts Mike Wiston and Joe Rubin:- Happy Anniversary FNK by (many) members of the FNK FB Group- Jennifer with Black Velvet by Alannah Myles- Levy Alturus & Heather Gurnari with What's up by 4 Non Blondes- Mike Wiston with Friend Like Me by Aladdin- Joe Rubin with I Wanna Be Like You by The Jungle Book- Reggie Valenzuela with My Sharona by The Knack- Shelley Corpuz-Kuhn with 99 Red Balloons by NenaLove what you hear? Between the sword fights, the spooky voice, and 8 minute “Friend Like Me” dance extravaganza which included tap dancing and fireworks, I was particularly captivated by Courtney Reed's Jasmine performance when she says “Why can't a woman lead the kingdom?” Courtney originated Jasmine for Disney's Aladdin on Broadway, leading in that role for 5 years in NY, on the West End in London and on tour in Los Angeles. She started her Broadway career in Mama Mia, then Lin Manuel-Miranda's In the Heights on Broadway. This week in Disney news we discuss the new show all about the Animal Kingdom coming to Disney+. Plus, Chris Hemsworth says he isn’t done with Thor and we couldn’t be happier! We've already shared how tough it is to rank the Disney Renaissance movies in Episodes 116 and 117. To stay on topic, this week we do another round of You Can Only Keep One with things from the Disney Renaissance. Our choices are: Tarzan, Aladdin, or Mulan Hercules, Beauty and the Beast, or The Little Mermaid Genie, Timon and Pumbaa, or Mushu "Be Our Guest," "Friend Like Me," or "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," "A Whole New World," or "I Won't Say I'm in Love" and finally, all of the movies scored by Alan Menken vs. each other (that's 6/10 movies!) We surprised even ourselves with our answers! What did you say? Did you have a family dinner discussion over it? We certainly did! Thanks for listening as always and have a magical day! Rub one out? You'll rub more like thirteen jewels from the genie's lamp of trivia from Disney's Aladdin. Don't you dare close your eyes to this whole new world of cool stuff from your friends like us. During the course of recording the voices, Robin Williams improvised so much they had almost sixteen hours of material. Because Robin Williams ad-libbed so many of his lines, the script was rejected for a Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award nomination. Because of the scheduling conflicts with Star Trek: The Next Generation, Patrick Stewart was forced to turn down the role of Jafar. He has said in interviews that this is his biggest regret. The opening scene with the street merchant was completely unscripted. Robin Williams was brought into the sound stage and was asked to stand behind a table that had several objects on it and a bedsheet covering them all. The animators asked him to lift the sheet, and, without looking, take an object from the table and describe it in character. Much of the material in that recording session was not appropriate for a Disney film. While recording this movie, Robin Williams frequently received calls from Steven Spielberg, who at the time was working on the Holocaust film Schindler's List. He would put him on speaker phone so he could tell jokes to the cast and crew to cheer them up. In the preview screenings for the movie, audiences did not applaud after the big song numbers. The animators wanted applause and so somebody stuck the Genie with an "Applause" sign at the end of "Friend Like Me." The joke worked and the sign was kept for the movie. To capture the movement of Aladdin's low-cut baggy pants, animator Glen Keane looked at videos of rap star M.C. Hammer. When the Genie sings "Friend Like Me" the line "Scheherazade had her thousand tales." Scheherazade was, of course, the supposed author of the stories from A Thousand and One Arabian Nights, which Aladdin comes from. While there were not actually a thousand tales, she did supposedly keep the sultan entertained for 1,001 nights. A section of the original lyric for the opening song "Arabian Nights" was altered after the movie's theatrical release. Arab-American groups claimed that it was racist, so the line was changed. The lyrics originally were, "Oh, I come from a land From a faraway place Where the caravan camels roam. Where they cut off your ear If they don't like your face It's barbaric, but hey, it's home." Although the film had already been released, Disney agreed to change it on the video release and any subsequent theatrical releases, and so the new lines, "Where it's flat and immense, and the heat is intense," replaced the offensive lines. This was the second Disney animated feature to use fully-rendered and textured 3-D CGI-moving backgrounds in combination with the traditionally animated character animation. A technique that was expanded upon which was previously seen in Beauty and the Beast. The two men in the crowd that Aladdin pushes through are caricatures of two of the directors (John Musker and Ron Clements). The original plan was to use film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, but they could not get permission. On what came to be known among the animators as Black Friday, then Disney head Jeffrey Katzenberg told the team to scrap virtually everything they had been working on for months and start all over again, where he also refused to move the film's release date. The directors were able to completely turn around the film's new plot and screenplay in just eight days. Originally, Aladdin was supposed to use his second wish in order to get through an obstacle course designed to test Jasmine's suitors. The production team eagerly approached the idea of scripting and animating a fabulously elaborate action sequence but could not get the idea to work in practice, and ended up going for the much simpler solution of Aladdin being jumped by guards and then having to use the second wish to save his life. podcast #movietrivia #robinwilliams #waltdisneyanimation

The production team eagerly approached the idea of scripting and animating a fabulously elaborate action sequence but could not get the idea to work in practice, and ended up going for the much simpler solution of Aladdin being jumped by guards and then having to use the second wish to save his life. podcast #m
It's a welcome return for Guy Ritchie (https://audioboom.com/posts/5958794-episode-42-guy-ritchie-on-the-music-of-king-arthur-snatch-the-man-from-u-n-c-l-e) to Soundtracking, Edith's weekly film music podcast. And it's also a welcome return for Aladdin, making his first big screen appearance since 1992 in Guy's live action remake of DIsney's animated classic. In this visually stunning reboot, Will Smith is charged with filling Robin Williams's considerable boots as Genie, with Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott playing Aladdin and Jasmin respectively. As with the animation, this latest incarnation is scored by Alan Menken, who won an Oscar and Golden Globe for the original. And in addition to a new number called Speechless, it features plenty of familiar tunes, including the classics Arabian Nights, One Jump Ahead and Friend Like Me.
Vegas Film Critic (Jeffrey K. Howard) reviews Disney's Aladdin (2019).
Sweetie is turning 36 this weekend, wohooo, so time to watch another favorite film of hers, the always wonderful, never duplicated Aladdin! From 1992, Aladdin was the 3rd Disney cartoon to come out (behind Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast) that completely captivated us as children. So much so, we still know every dang lyric to Friend Like Me and Prince Ali, 30 years later! Since Disney cartoons are on virtual lockdown, and you can't stream them anywhere, our lovely friend Jill who owns the DVD invited us over for pad thai, wine, and baby cuddles but to also watch the movie! So she's our special guest this week as we chat about why we love this movie so much (Robin Williams!), sing all the songs, and explore Aladdin's relative hotness and harem pants looks. It's a whole new world, guys!

Rub one out? You'll rub more like thirteen jewels from the genie's lamp of trivia from Disney's Aladdin. Don't you dare close your eyes to this whole new world of cool stuff from your friends like us. 13. During the course of recording the voices, Robin Williams improvised so much they had almost sixteen hours of material. 12. Because Robin Williams ad-libbed so many of his lines, the script was rejected for a Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award nomination. 11. Because of the scheduling conflicts with Star Trek: The Next Generation, Patrick Stewart was forced to turn down the role of Jafar. He has said in interviews that this is his biggest regret. 10. 9. While recording this movie, Robin Williams frequently received calls from Steven Spielberg, who at the time was working on the Holocaust film Schindler's List. He would put him on speaker phone so he could tell jokes to the cast and crew to cheer them up. 8. In the preview screenings for the movie, audiences did not applaud after the big song numbers. The animators wanted applause and so somebody stuck the Genie with an "Applause" sign at the end of "Friend Like Me." The joke worked and the sign was kept for the movie. 7. To capture the movement of Aladdin's low-cut baggy pants, animator Glen Keane looked at videos of rap star M.C. Hammer. 6. 5. A section of the original lyric for the opening song "Arabian Nights" was altered after the movie's theatrical release. Arab-American groups claimed that it was racist, so the line was changed.
