"Someone is going to jump off a building if Christi walks by," jokes Stephen, but as Christi is quick to point out in some cases that isn't too far from the truth! But could you imagine one of those incidents occurring at the "Happiest Place on Earth"? It's true, and it's just one of many creepy Disneyland occurrences we'll be covering on this week's episode of Beyond the Norm. Now there is a surprising amount of haunted happenings occurring everyday at Disney Parks, like The Haunted Mansion alone might as well have its own wiki page for the real life haunts that inhabit its grounds. So expect this to be the first of MANY Disney themed episodes. So to kick things off we figured it would be appropriate to give a little sampler of every kind of Mickey-themed horror, from the ghosts of children lost on park grounds to the shocking way Disney handles deaths in the park and the lengths they'll go to keep things hush hush. So hunker down and practice your best rendition of "Grim Grinning Ghosts" because this is one ride you may not return from. Quotes“Everyone was a bullied gay kid in middle school, I get it. I was a bullied gay kid and I wasn't even gay. Well you're gay adjacent.” (18:48-18:55 | Christi & Stephen)“I hate Reddit. It's where they hate me the most so I don't normally patronize Reddit but for today I had to make an exception.” (23:07-23:14 | Christi)“It's the ghost of a little boy who has been given the name of Timmy by the cast-members. P.S. there is about eight Timmy ghosts in Disney properties. Every ghost is named Timmy, I don't know why." (23:26-23:36 | Christi)“Now this little boy haunts the Haunted Mansion. Well they always say there's 999 haunts and there's room for one more! Yeah I don't think they really mean that.” (32:28-32:39 | Christi & Stephen) LinksSend us your ghost or weird stories here: beyondthenormpod@gmail.comSubscribe to our Patreon: www.patreon.com/BeyondtheNormPodcastFollow Christi on IG: www.instagram.com/christilukasiakFollow Stephen on IG: www.instagram.com/s_c_mayo Hosted on Acast. Come one, come all. Step right up. We've got a brand new Meekly Music Box to fit the season. We're proud to feature the music of the live organist at the Bob Baker Marionette Theater Edward Torres. While not a traditionally recorded musician, Edward was kind enough to make a recording of the sort of musical medley you will hear at one of their shows including the songs "Paramount On Parade," "September In The Rain," "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" and the beloved "Grim Grinning Ghosts."
In this episode of Distory, we finally arrive in the graveyard just in time to celebrate the swinging wake with the Phantom Five! And they might not necessarily be who you think they are because of an all-too-common mistake. As we roll on in our doom buggies, we explore the origins of the ghost drummer, hear about the background of the tune Grim Grinning Ghosts, hang out with royalty on the see-saw, and even have a drop-in special guest (musicologist Dr. Eliot Grasso) to help us identify the instruments the Phantom Five are playing. We also take a few short detours and even get a little ahead of ourselves with the singing busts, but don't worry, we pop up right where we need to at the end (with the ghosts that do the same). In a brazen effort to make political hay out of the right-wing culture wars, Republican Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis has signed a slew of bills into law that, among other things, target transgender student athletes, further criminalize protests, limit voting rights, and surveil the political leanings of college professors, staff, and students. In our first segment for this week's episode of The Marc Steiner Show, Marc talks with Florida State Representative Anna Eskamani about the cynical machinations behind the right's legislative onslaught in Florida and the real-world harm these new bills will do. Eskamani is a member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing the 47th district in Orange County. In our second segment, we talk to Current Affairs Amusements and Managing Editor Lyta Gold about her recent piece in the Current Affairs magazine, “Nation of Bones,” which explores the cultural tools we have (and the kind of artistic outlets we need) to confront the traumatic experience of COVID-19 and mass death.Tune in for new episodes of The Marc Steiner Show every Tuesday on TRNN.

Welcome, foolish mortals, to Episode 109 of The Bobcast! Chef Mayhem, er, Jeff Baham is THE source for all things Disney's Haunted Mansion. Jeff is the force behind the greatest Haunted Mansion website ever created, Doombuggies.com. Jeff wrote a book all about Disney's Haunted Mansion. Jeff hosts three podcasts that deal with Disney and the Haunted Mansion. You might think the guy is a little obsessed with the Haunted Mansion at this point? Yes, I think so, but what a lovely obsession it is! Jeff and I talk all about his life, his work and of course, the Haunted Mansion. How would Jeff change the Mansion if he could go back in time? Are there REAL ghosts roaming the hallowed halls of the Mansion? Did a REAL haunted mansion inspire Walt Disney in his desire to see a haunted house attraction in his perfect theme park? Listen to this episode and there's no need for any “messages from beyond” to answer those questions! Brought to you by Sticker Junkie. Cover version of “Grim Grinning Ghosts” performed by Pulley.
Tonight Eric and guest Ray O'Hare discuss the life and career of iconic voiceover artist/singer, Thurl Ravenscroft! Thurls life may not have been spooky in and of its self, but he did plenty of spooky voices for Disney and other companies. His most notable credits would include the lead vocal on the Haunted Mansion's "Grim Grinning Ghosts", the singer of "You're a mean one, Mister Grinch" and, for 50 years, he was the voice of Tony The Tigger for Frosted Flakes! An interesting career to say the least and you can learn all about it on this week's Spooky Times with Eric D! facebook.com/spookytimeswithericd spookyas.com

Around the Hub is a game show based on ESPN’s Around the Horn. Four contestants from around the WDWNT Network of Podcasts match wits in a game of competitive banter. Points are awarded for good arguments and points may be deducted if a podcaster loses their train of thought or says something the host does not agree with. There are 3 rounds of play, starting off with the Rope Drop (which covers the biggest news stories of the week from the entire Walt Disney Company) and ending with the Face-Off between the last two podcasters standing. At the end of each round the podcaster with the lowest point total is eliminated. The winner of each episode gets a thirty second Meet ‘N’ Greet to discuss anything from the World of Disney that is on their minds. Join our distinguished panel as we dissect MyMagic+ and all the bells and whistles that go along with it. We play “WDW Would Ya'” and end with the rarely played “Grim Grinning Ghosts”. There’s also a meet-and-greet you won’t want to miss. Featuring: Tom Corless, Marci Smith, Scarlett Litton, and Justin Heyman.
Much Thanks to "DJ Wazowski" for this Halloween audio fun! Paul will see you all on 11/1... Here is what Jeff said about his creation: ************ Mongello Everyone!Well its happened, those unemployment checks from AATM have stopped coming in. So of course that means its time to roll up the shirt sleeves, put on the headphones and get back in the studio. For fun this week I have been working on a Halloween remix/mashup that answers the question "what if" you could put your own theme music to a Disney attraction. Being that its October I decided to put some scary movie themes under some selected audio tracks from the Haunted Mansion. The results turned out pretty good although I had no luck mixing Grim Grinning Ghosts over the Gremlins theme. So as you'll hear, I just let the music play during that section. But if you use a little imagination you can picture a gang of Gremlins singing "Grim Grinning Ghosts come out, Grim Grinning Ghosts come out" while crawling and jumping through the graveyard. The other underlying tracks include the theme from Halloween and Tubular Bells from the Exorcist.Happy Haunting and may your goody bags be full,DJ Wazowski (That's Jeff W for those of you living in Minnesota.)
