Zach and Rhett kick things off with a catch-up on recent projects. Rhett celebrates his new 100 watt Two Rock Classic Reverb Signature, which recently terrorized a couple sitting in the front row of one of his gigs. Then guitarist Ariel Posen logs on to, first and foremost, clear up how to pronounce his name. He gives a quick tutorial: just say guitar, add “ee” and “ell,” then take out the “guit” sound.Posen and Rhett swap horror stories from working on film sets, where they were expected to do way more than their job descriptions covered. Both agree that the film life is infinitely worse than touring. “I don't know shit!” protests Posen. “I'm just a guitar player, dude!”Posen discusses how he got into playing slide in standard tuning by learning George Harrison leads (blues slide guitar was never his thing), but Canadian guitarist Kevin Breit inspired him to try open tunings, a process with “a lot of trial by fire, lots of, ‘oops, sorry!'” Blake Mills' 2014 record Heigh Ho prompted Posen to chase lower tunings, although Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Big Wreck lit that same candle years earlier. For the open tuning-curious, Posen suggests starting in open E.Posen talks about how he wrote his new record, and the honesty and simplicity behind his favorite lyricists like Jason Isbell. Finally, the trio dig into how to stack and squeeze the best sounds from your fuzz pedals. (Is a mini version of the Mythos Argo fuzz pedal coming? Zach doesn't say yes—but he doesn't say no, either.) Finally, the crew dips a slick Americana rig that draws a trio of impressive scores.Subscribe, like, and leave us a comment!Big thanks to Sweetwater for sponsoring this episode. As Christians, we need to stop categorizing our lives by church, home and work. Our lives are supposed to be lived congruently, meaning that our Christianity must be woven in everywhere we go. In all that we do, we must work in a way that honors and glorifies God, remembering that the biggest blessing is eternal life with Him. Being a follower of Jesus isn't a 9-5 that ends when you clock out at the end of the day! We love to compartmentalize our routines and activities, but discipleship is meant to be practiced across all facets of life. From home, to work, to school, to church, we're called to conduct ourselves in a way that honors and glorifies God – because our lives may be the only Bible some people ever read.

Heigh- Ho, western fans! This week on Fabulous Film and friends we're going to circle back and discuss Jane Campion's 2021 comeback effort and Oscar frontrunner, The Power of The Dog starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, Kirsten Dunst and Kodi Smit-McPhee. It was mentioned on our year in review last week as a top film, but no time was spent hunkering down on its finer points.  I'm yer host Gino Caputi and joining me on this conceptual cattle drive is my sister and unabashed Jane Campion lover Roseanne Caputi, don't get her started on The Piano, Son of a Dairyman and grandson to one of Eastern Oregon's great cattle barons David Johnson, D.M.D., New Plymouth Idaho's own Burton Brown, no stranger to cow manure he. And a man who wore a cowboy hat once in a Penn State black box theater reimagining of As You Like It, GORDON ALEX ROBERTSON!Just do you don't get lost: The synopsis In The Power of The Dog, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jesse Plemons play Phil and George Burbank, respectively, two rich Montana cattle ranchers who on a drive with their ranch hands, stop in a town called Beech where they dine and sleep at an Inn run by a suicide widow Rose Gordon and her lisping, paper flower-making son, Peter.  Phil is cruel and derisive of Rose's sensitive son, while George is understanding and serves as a shoulder for Rose to cry on after Phil and his team of cowpolks clear out.  Rose and George form an attachment and are soon married, causing Phil to withdraw from the family and to treat Rose and her son in an even pettier and wickeder manner.  Phil's treatment of Rose drives her to take up drinking and, in an effort to gall Rose, perhaps to the point of madness and death, Phil takes Peter under his wing.  Teaching Peter to ride and to build fences like a true cow polk, Phil seems to succeed in his plan until he is completely blindsided by the far more hard-edged and formidable Peter. What's it all about? What is The Power of The Dog? Find out!

Welcome to Hang the Holly. You'll meet Laura MacKenzie this week as we take an inside look into the latest episode of the Celtic Christmas Podcast.      The The Holly and The Ivy is already getting a ton of downloads. Over 1000 in less than a week after it came out. So I have high hopes that all of these incredible artists will special attention this holiday season.   Show #56 features Christmas music from The Irish Rovers, Steel Clover, Matthew Young, Emish, Spencer & Beane, Laura MacKenzie, Cantus Lunaris, The Jig Is Up!, Andrew D. Huber, Rosmerta, Haggis Rampant, A Shamrock in Kudzu, Sarah Marie Mullen, The Selkie Girls, The Gothard Sisters.   If you enjoy the show, please do all of these artists a favor. Share it with your friends on social or in your community.   You can also rate the podcast or post comments on Apple Podcasts or your favorite podcatcher. And of course, subscribe to the podcast at CelticChristmasPodcast.com.   And now Laura MacKenzie   It's not hard to believe that Laura MacKenzie has Irish dance in her background – you can almost hear it when she plays her music! This talented artist has not only been the recipient of some coveted fellowships, but she also has her own designated namesake “day” in Minnesota because of her work in traditional Irish music. (In case you are wondering, it's November 22nd.) Laura has been mentored by some wonderful musicians on everything from button accordion, to Irish flute, to Scottish smallpipes. Yes—she's definitely one of those Celtic artists that plays numerous instruments! She has also been awarded some heavy-hitting titles, such as a Master Folk Artist, a "Celtic music wizard”, and a "High priestess of Celtic music”. It's doubtful that any of these monikers were handed out lightly!   If you're looking to lay in something unique in terms of holiday music, this lady presents some fun options. Yuletide Bagpipes is exactly what it sounds like—a nice collection of tunes, featuring a wide array of pipes. You'll hear border pipes, smallpipes, lowland pipes, medieval greatpipes, and even some cornemuse. It's hard not to feel festive with this type of music wafting through the air. The album begins with Joy to the World/I Saw Three Ships and offers 15 bright tracks that end with her version of Auld Lang Syne.   Celtic Holiday is another one of MacKenzie's holiday albums; this one features 14 tracks with many favorites peppered throughout, such as “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing”, “God Rest Ye Marry Gentlemen”, and “What Child is This/The Greensleeves Jigs. There's an especially haunting version of “O Come, O Come Immanuel” that is almost meditative. Just lovely. It's always interesting to see what various artists do with the arrangement of tunes that are familiar to almost everyone. Each has their own take on how to present it, and this is especially true of holiday music like these tracks.   For those who can't decide which of these sounds better, the obvious compromise would be to go with “Heigh Ho, The Green Holly”, which is a collection of Celtic Christmas music that was selected from both of the previous albums. It really is a good mix of the two. This would probably also make a great gift if you know someone who loves the pipes and is in need of a bit of holiday cheer this season. Quite honestly, we could probably all use a bit of that in 2020. Take a look at the track lists and see if one of these albums piques your interest, or tune in and hear Laura MacKenzie for yourself on show #56: The Holly and The Ivy. Dole also provides the unique Dole Whip soft-serve frozen dessert sold at a snack bar near the entrance. The presentation features a "cast" of over 150 talking, singing and dancing birds, flowers, the aforementioned magic fountain, tiki drummers and tiki totem poles that perform the attraction's signature tunes, The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room by the Sherman Brothers and Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing. The finale has every Audio-Animatronic figure performing a rousing version of Hawaiian War Chant. The choice of exit music is somewhat unusual, namely an arrangement of Heigh Ho from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with lyrics thanking guests for watching the show and which hurry them along on their way to the exit.
