Dive into our personal dumpster fires (specifically MBK's, per usual). The fickle, feebleness of losing yourself because of so many things – getting sick, summer time, exposure to men, and whatnot. See if Loren can teach us all how to find ourselves again. In this episode we will share some real life dating app stories that are just… well, INSANE. Send us a textThis week on the Montana Outdoor Podcast your Host Downrigger Dale had a great discussion with Greg Lemon, the Head of Communication and Education for the FWP. The main topic they covered was hunting land access. Most all the research on this topic has centered around two main areas, how do we get more land access and how do we keep the access we currently have. The number one reason we don't get access or lose access boils down to one thing, hunter and landowner relations. The sad fact is it only takes one bad hunter to lose access for all the good hunters. When you listen you'll learn all about the growth of and the current plans for a program called, It's Up to Us. Respect Access. Protect the Hunt. This podcast will give you some great information on that program and will give you some ideas on how you can help weed out the bad actors and how you can get even more access for your future hunts. When you listen you will also learn about some incredible incentives that Greg and his crew have come up with to entice us all to learn more ways to protect the access we have and how to get more. In fact, you can get a free three-month onX Elite membership (some restrictions apply) just for watching a video and taking a short test! Plus, you will be entered to win some great prizes! If that weren't enough there are a bunch of companies and individuals that are investing a TON into this including Montana State, University of Montana, onX, Maven, and VIAM Outdoors and the result is you will have a chance to win all kinds of prizes just for simply taking a little time to learn all about the “It's Up to Us” program. Lighting issues! Just trying to keep it interesting! This week: Loren's face is washed out… honestly it's so funny to watch her talk. Stay tuned for a fun audio glitch towards the end! In this episode, we're discussing the very important mental wormhole MBK went down (hint: Tim Ballard unhinged) and Loren's compelling – albeit overly detailed to an extreme length – story about men being absurd in the workplace. Immigrants from Lithuania who made their way to New Britain, Connecticut at the beginning of the twentieth century found work in the city's factories turning out tools and hardware. Their weekly routine included work, church and socializing at neighborhood saloons. But major upheavals in American society were happening at the time that affected their lives including the rise of organized labor, the temperance movement, anti-immigrant sentiment, and labor strikes. In this episode, we have two new voices in public history, Central Connecticut State University students Jon Kozak and Nathaniel Smith. They produced the episode as a class project under Dr. Leah Glazier at Central Connecticut State University. This episode reminds us that some of the most interesting history can be found all around you in your own community. A big thanks to Jon Kosak and Nathaniel Smith for their hard work in producing this episode. I also want to thank Dr. Glazier, professor of public history for her help. Contact Jon Kosak at: j.kozak@my.ccsu.edu Contact Dr. Leah Glazier at: glaserles@ccsu.edu Jon and Nathaniel used a wide variety of local history materials including oral histories and the New Britain Herald newspaper. Museum Collections: The New Britain Public Library Local History Room, The New Britain Industrial Museum, Connecticut State Library, and the Elihu Burritt Library at Central Connecticut State University, specifically their special collections and archive of the New Britain Herald newspaper. Oral Histories: John Skritulsky, had been interviewed by the Federal Writers Project in 1938, by a writer in the FWP's New Britain office by the name of Albert Kayeski. Being Lithuanian himself, Kayeski understood the importance of this ethnic community in telling the story of an industrialized New Britain. Several of his other profiles bear mention of taverns, be it Skritulsky's or others as places to gather. Use of New Britain directories from the turn of the twentieth century reinforced the prevalence and importance of these institutions. It must be noted that for the clarity of our story, the character of Jonas, whose story was found in a FWP profile by Kayeski, History of a Lithuanian Immigrant, was originally listed with the name John, and was given no last name. We changed his name to Jonas, the Lithuanian translation of John, to avoid confusion with John Skritulsky in the narrative. No other names were altered from the original source material. Manuscript reference: Portrait of Occupations, Investments, and Businesses of Lithuanian Immigrants in New Britain Connecticut by the Reverend William Wolkovich-Valkavicius from 1979, Local History Room, New Britain Public Library. Song Credit: This version, by the musical group Ugniavijas, recorded in 2014 is a centuries-old Lithuanian folk song whose title roughly translates to “Sweet Beer of the Oats. The original lyrics with an English translation can be found here. It is a song that remains important to the people of Lithuania and is still sung today, often by schoolchildren. ----------------------------------------------------- Connecticut Landmarks Event Join Connecticut Landmarks at East Haddam's Palmer-Warner House for our second annual Summer Pipes & Cider! Send us a textThis week on the Montana Outdoor Podcast your host Downrigger Dale has another great conversation with FWP, Game Management Bureau Chief, Brian Wakeling, this time about Montana's Elk Shoulder Seasons. These seasons are already underway in several hunting districts and will go on and off through February 15th, 2026. Just that statement right there is confusing. Thus, there are a whole lot of hunters that pass on giving these elk harvest opportunities a try. Rigger has received a whole lot of emails from many podcast listeners and viewers complaining about that. Folks have said things like "I have a helluva time figuring out what tag I even need in Shoulder Seasons near me" or "Antlerless elk!? Does that mean a cow or calf or what" or "just when I thought I had it figured out, I head out and the landowner said, "hey you can't do that here now that was for last week!" And the list goes on and on. That's why your host Downrigger Dale said "not this year, all that confusion needs to be cleared up and Brian Wakeling is the perfect guy for the job. Brian is excellent at explaining everything you need to know about Elk Shoulder Seasons. During the podcast Brian even opened the 2025 hunting regulations and showed some examples of where to look for Shoulder Season info and more importantly what all that info means. Once you listen or watch this podcast you will be walking around with a big beautiful light bulb above your head! Robby hosts Sean Clancy & Art Hayes from Citizens for Sustainable Opportunity. These guys are common-sense Montana residents looking for ways to get better Montana mule deer hunting. And no, they don't hate non-residents! The Citizens for Sustainable Opportunity is a group of concerned hunters, landowners and outfitters looking at ways to change the existing season structure in Montana to address problems as seen by hunters and landowners. You can link their website https://mtseasonproposal.blog/ to view the data and documents. In this episode, they discuss what avenues there are to improve Montana mule deer hunting, and increase an individual hunter's chance at seeing older age class bucks. They share wildlife data and look at potential biases in interpreting this data. The Citizens for Sustainable Opportunity recognize the importance of using incentives and season dates to improve hunting vs. just creating more and more limited opportunity hunts. This episode will help all hunters--resident and non-resident--understand the dynamics of hunting big mule deer in Montana. If you'd like to learn more, or get involved, you can email Sean at sclancy27@gmail.com. To participate in the season setting process, meetings are occurring now with their conclusion in December. Send us a textThis week on the Montana Outdoor Podcast your host Downrigger Dale has a very interesting discussion with Brian Wakeling, Game Management Bureau Chief for Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. Rigger received emails from a whole lot of you wanting more information about the new Mule Deer Management Plan that Brian and his staff are working on right now. Mule Deer are a VERY popular species to hunt here in Montana and a great deal of hunters and outdoor folks in general have been concerned about the decline in Mule Deer populations in many hunting districts across the state. Thus, one of the main reasons for the FWP developing a new management plan. So, what is a management plan anyway? Who decides what goes into the plan? What are the main issues facing Montana's Mule Deer? Is it just Chronic Wasting Disease or are there other issues that are causing population declines? Recently Brian and his staff conducted a series of public workshops across Montana to get input from folks across the state. Mainly they wanted to hear ideas and what folks would like to see in the New Management plan. So how did the workshops go? Those and many other questions will be answered when you listen to this fascinating podcast. So, what are you waiting for click that play button and give this week's podcast a listen! The whole team got together for this segment episode including a less than authentic FWP from Uel, a great guessing game from producer Sean and Sidney presenting a listener kvetch for which, and we cannot express this enough, we are sorry.
Years ago, Marcus prognosticated that WWE would eventually include matches into the Hall of Fame and now thanks to the creation of the Immortal Moment wing of the Hall, one of the greatest matches in the history of WWE will be enshrined. This week on FWP, we discuss the inclusion of Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin from WrestleMania 13, the progression of John Cena, missed opportunities in the WWE Hall of Fame proper and more! Jingle those keys WWE babies! It's FWP! Thank you so much for joining us again this week for Final Wrestling Place #297.
Thanks to traffic from a great weekend of t-shirt sales, FWP is back a day late but not a dollar short! After responding to a healthy batch of voicemails, FWP takes a look at the aftermath of AEW Revolution to see where things are going as they head to Dynasty! Don't worry, we still jingle the keys for all the WWE babies too! Thank you so much for joining us again this week for Final Wrestling Place #295. This week on Final Wrestling Place, Tim & Marcus tell two stories on opposite sides of the coin. One one hand, we have MJF and Hangman Page from AEW exploring their genuine selves and generational success. On the other, we have Cody Rhodes and The Rock from WWE exploring giving up their genuine selves for generational success. Plus, we give a Viewer's Choice for WWE Elimination Chamber: Toronto! It's a girthy one this week folks! Enjoy some FWP! Thank you so much for joining us again this week for Final Wrestling Place #292. Hey all! No PTO being used here, just a small disclaimer for FWP 291 coming a little later than usual. Thanks for understanding and you'll hear us in a few days.
Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme, Bad Terry Lies again! This episode, we talk the good and bad of the rash of WWE releases, Jey Uso and Charlotte's parade of potential opponents and how AEW is walking a fine line between being great and following doomsday. We also talk about Hulk Hogan's 51 minute interview on the Pat McAfee Show! No Super Bowl spoilers here for FWP! Thank you so much for joining us again this week for Final Wrestling Place #288.
Just a quick one this week while the team recovered from cold season. In this episode Sidney presents a FWP about cooking and time management and Uel presents a social media kvetch about all social media. S5E1 - Yesss mensen, seizoen 5!
Back to full strength and the boys are back at it! This week, we try a new opening bit, run through what Marcus missed during his PTO, and then run the gauntlet of topics from the week that was before settling in on how the AEW members of the WWE roster are doing in our eyes. All that and a little shade this week on FWP! Thank you so much for joining us again this week for Final Wrestling Place #286.
On a very special bonus episode of Final Wrestling Place, we break from the norm to give you something completely different. As a loving homage to podcasts like The A Show / Chicken Salad and All Fantasy Everything, Marcus finally caved to Tim's demands and we get FWP's version of the draft show! This week, we are joined by a man with many names. Some call him Shoesy, some call him the Sneaker Dean, some call him The Jinglemeister, but we love us some Dwkii, David Kincannon! On this second draft, the three of us will be drafting Movie Titles as Nicknames for people! Such a deep draft class, but only 15 picks will be made. It's low-stakes, high-entertainment drafting... the way it was meant to be! Thank you so much for joining us again this week for Final Wrestling Place #283.
This week, we give you the Viewer's Choice on the return of Saturday Night's Main Event, we talk when nostalgia is too much nostalgia, and holiday movies! It's a smorgasbord of content this week on FWP! Thank you so much for joining us again this week for Final Wrestling Place #281. Boy do we have a lot to talk about! This week, we discuss how some folks are outright wrong about some AEW talent, how some folks are absolutely right about their feelings on Survivor Series, and how we see WrestleMania 41 as we head into WrestleMania season! Ease out of your four day weekend with some FWP! Thank you so much for joining us again this week for Final Wrestling Place #279. As a loving homage to podcasts like The A Show / Chicken Salad and All Fantasy Everything, Marcus finally caved to Tim's demands and we get FWP's version of the draft show! This week, we are joined by one-fifth of the Wings on Wings crew and one-half of We Need Wrestling, Brett! On our maiden voyage of the draft show, the three of them will be drafting Wrestling Event Names. Not events themselves, but the strength of the name of the event. It's low-stakes, high-entertainment drafting... the way it was meant to be! Thank you so much for joining us again this week however you've joined us. Sorry for the delay folks, you know how things can get sometimes. Everyone good? Yeah? By the looks of things, we've only missed a week, but I feel like a lot has changed. It’s the limestone cathedral of the Smith, the caddis hatch on the Madison, the rushing emerald water of the Flathead that draw more and more people to the arterial waterways of Montana’s wild country. That’s just to name a few. Anyone who’s spent time on a river in Montana in the past decade probably saw a variety of people using the waterways. Especially since the pandemic, use of the state’s streams has escalated as more people have sought ways to recreate outdoors. The Montana River Recreation Advisory Council was recently created by Fish, Wildlife & Parks to look into river recreation and all of the issues that come with it. These may include garbage, crowding and sometimes fistfights as tempers escalate. The council recently met over three days to come up with some suggestions for FWP. Here to talk about the group is Brett French, outdoor editor at the Billings Gazette.
