Pull on your coziest jumper and head north to the Bake Off tent as Lisa and Allison celebrate a holiday special with a distinctly Scottish twist. With a lineup of Scottish contestants bringing their own flavors, traditions, and baking bravado to the table, this episode feels festive in a way that's both heartwarming and delightfully specific.Lisa and Allison dig into the bakes, the vibes, and the moments that made this episode stand out — from comforting classics to proudly Scottish touches woven into the challenges. There's admiration for bold choices, gentle ribbing when things wobble, and plenty of appreciation for bakers who bring a sense of place and personality to their holiday creations. As the signatures sparkle, the technical raises eyebrows, and the showstoppers aim high, the Soggy Bottom Girls toast an episode that blends holiday cheer with Scottish charm, proving once again that the best bakes tell a story — even if that story includes a crack, a lean, or a soggy bottom.Pour yourself something warming, grab a mince pie (or a biscuit worthy of a handshake), and join Lisa and Allison for a holiday episode that's cozy, festive, and full of heart — with a wee bit of Bake Off magic.

This episode brings together three incredible Bake Off champions for a lively, heartfelt, and wonderfully nerdy deep dive into the world of competitive baking. Lisa and Cristina are joined by Peter Sawkins, winner of Great British Bake Off 2020, Laura Foo, winner of Great Australian Bake Off 2023, and Loïc Fauteux-Goulet, winner of Great Canadian Baking Show 2023. Each baker shares the winding path that led them to their respective tents, from Loïc discovering his passion through late-night Bake Off marathons, to Laura's roots in Singaporean home baking and her pandemic baking adventures, to Peter becoming utterly captivated by the show at age ten.The bakers compare the unique rhythms of their different franchises, reflecting on the pressure, the unpredictability, and the strange comfort of baking under the watchful eye of a production crew. Together they recount the chaos, the camaraderie, the victories, the disasters, and the moments when everything just seemed to magically work in the tent (or shed!). By the end, the trio has formed a cross-continental pact: an international baking challenge club designed to push each other's limits in the most joyful way possible. This conversation is warm, generous, and full of insights for bakers of every level. Whether you are a Bake Off fan, a home baker, or just someone who loves hearing passionate people talk about the craft they adore, this episode will make you smile. Hosted on Acast. The internet decides what's for dinner. Ruby Tandoh is the author of the new book, All Consuming: Why We Eat the Way We Eat Now. A stint on the Great British Bake Off when she was in college launched her into the world of cookbooks — increasingly irrelevant in a world where we're more likely to turn to Google for a recipe than turn to our bookshelves — and provided her an education in how pop culture stokes our cravings. She takes Ben and Amory on a journey from the surprising history of AllRecipes and the "world's best lasagna," to the TikTok food trends of today. (Spoiler: they don't always taste particularly good.) Show notes: All Consuming: Why We Eat the Way We Eat Now Credits: This episode was produced by Grace Tatter and hosted by Ben Brock Johnson and Amory Sivertson. It was edited by Meg Cramer. Mix and sound design by Emily Jankowski.

Food isn't just something we eat anymore. We're served up food culture all day long, whether we invite it in or not, feeding our cravings and shaping our choices in ways we don't always notice. Ruby Tandoh is best known for her appearance on the Great British Bake Off and her sharp writing on cooking and culture. She's watched the old hand-me-down recipe tradition give way to a constant stream of influences coming from every direction: viral posts, buzzy restaurants, and the invisible hand of algorithmic recommendation. Her new book unpacks how all of this guides our appetites. The book is called All Consuming: Why We Eat the Way We Eat Now.

Actress Leslie Bibb joins Sam while Mercury is fully in retrograde and they quickly agree that their shoulders only fully relax when they’re in the country despite both living in the city. They talk about being subject to the winds of planetary forces, not being gamblers (they both abide by a strict “only 20 dollars at a time” rule) because they’ve worked too hard for their money, and their shared hatred of wasting stuff including chicken carcasses. Leslie talks about how watching Bob Villa as a kid has inspired her own home renovation projects and teaching other women how to do renovation on Tik Tok and why she’s going to have spores in her sourdough that predate the country. They gush over The Great British Bake Off and agree it’s appointment television, taking cooking classes in foreign countries, people who have recipes they won’t even share with their kids, and how we can learn to disagree with our parents as they get older. The Soggy Bottom Girls are tying a (slightly lopsided) bow on another season of delicious chaos — but first, they need a song. Or… any song. As Allison and Lisa debate their options, Allison casually drops a bombshell about possible Jasmine controversy?!

It's Patisserie Week on The Soggy Bottom Girls, and the innuendos are rising faster than choux pastry in a hot oven! Lisa boldly declares her love for cream horns (yes, she's eaten one), while Allison wonders if they're simply too faffy for the average baker. The girls sift through Jasmine's repetitive flavors, debate her soulless bakes, and side-eye her first-place finish in the technical. When it comes to the macaron showstopper, Lisa's thrown in the piping bag, but Allison's swooning over their adorable potential. With Tom's chocolate beehive abuzz with brilliance, the girls speculate if he's about to clinch bake-off glory. Faffery, flavor drama, and plenty of pastry puns—this episode is as rich as a crème diplomat!Connect with us:https://soggybottomgirls.com Follow us on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/soggybottomgirlsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/soggybottomgirls/

It's Dessert Week in the tent, and The Soggy Bottom Girls are serving up some seriously sweet (and slightly scandalous) opinions. Lisa and Allison dive into the mystery of the Basque bake — and after a few “why would you?” moments, they unanimously bin Tom's black-as-night creation. A steamy bain-marie debate bubbles up next, with both hosts declaring it more trouble than it's worth. When the gluten-free pudding technical rolls around, Allison's war on oranges continues, while Lisa questions the timing (and the taste appeal) of a gluten-free dessert challenge. Finally, the girls tackle the towering trifle showstopper, sparking memories of 90's wedding gifts and questionable jelly layers. Tune in for laughs, light roasting, and the crowning of another Star Baker — because this week, it's all about keeping your custard in line and your trifle standing tall.Connect with us:https://soggybottomgirls.com Follow us on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/soggybottomgirlsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/soggybottomgirls/

From burnt Basque cheesecakes and wobbly free-standing trifles to towering macaron sculptures, it's been a wild ride on the road to the final. Mirandia and Ben break down who rose to the occasion, who melted under pressure, and which moments had us shouting at the screen. It's two weeks' worth of pastry, panic, and pure Bake Off chaos—served with a side of laughter and a dash of judgment. So grab a cuppa, settle in, and let's talk all things sweet, stressful, and semi-final-worthy! PS. Ben says "IT IS NOT A QUARTER FINAL!!".
Mary Katharine Ham, FOX News Contributor, OutKick columnist, and co-author of End of Discussion, joined The Guy Benson Show today to share the story behind her spot-on Great British Bake Off themed Halloween costume with her husband. She also weighed in on the ongoing government shutdown, blasting Democrats for refusing to pass a clean CR and holding Americans' SNAP benefits hostage. Ham explained why President Trump's push to eliminate the filibuster to reopen the government is a bad idea, and would effectively reward Democrats for their shutdown antics. Mary Katharine also broke down the high-stakes Virginia gubernatorial race between Abigail Spanberger and Winsome Earle-Sears and why Jason Miyares could defy expectations and beat scandal-plagued Democrat Jay Jones. ‘Desperate Housewives' star Teri Hatcher joins the show. Over crispy trout and ribeye tibs, we talk about her new ‘Desperate Housewives' rewatch podcast, Desperately Devoted, which she co-hosts with her on-screen and real-life daughters. Teri opens up about revisiting Wisteria Lane with fresh eyes and how her 27-year-old daughter's modern perspective reshapes her understanding of the series. We also dive into her lifelong love of food — from culinary school to winning ‘Chopped' and baking in ‘The Great British Bake Off' tent — and how cooking has always been her love language. Teri talks candidly about aging in Hollywood, and about discovering new creative energy through a new hobby: stand-up comedy. This episode was recorded at Aunt Yvette's Kitchen in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Grace is serving up some of her old favourites to curl up to as autumn turns to winter. Cosying up with Grace is none other than the queen of baking and all our hearts – Nadiya Hussain. The Bake Off star, whose triumph in the tent launched a TV, writing and culinary career of which dreams are made, is dropping by Grace's home to share her loves, her hates and her strategies for managing a house of teenagers. Over a plate of something so comforting you could curl up in it, Grace and Nadiya get down to brass tacks. Family, husbands, school and crisps – all the main bases – and there's no shame allowed. Just get those elbows out and dig in. Buy Grace's new Comfort Eating book, inspired by the podcast, here. The book is a wonderfully scrumptious, life-affirming journey through the foods that really mean the most to us
It's the first-ever Meringue Week in the Bake Off tent, and the Soggy Bottom Girls are whipping up pure delight! Allison and Lisa dive headfirst into clouds of sugar and egg whites—discussing mini meringue pies, soufflé struggles, and torches that never get used (looking at you, Allison). From chestnut mysteries to passion fruit obsessions, they mix in plenty of laughter, Bake Off lore (BinGate returns!), and a full-on Barry Manilow detour that somehow makes perfect sense. It's pillowy, it's faffy, it's fabulous—and definitely one for the sweet tooth and the nostalgia lover alike.Connect with us:https://soggybottomgirls.com Follow us on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/soggybottomgirlsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/soggybottomgirls/

When Nadiya Hussain competed on The Great British Bake Off in 2015, it seemed like all of Britain — from self-proclaimed #Nadiyators to the prime minister — was rooting for her. Since then, she's hosted TV shows, written best-selling books, and become a household name in the UK. But the transformation we focus on in this conversation is the one that has taken place within her. She talks with Dan about growing up in a British Bangladeshi family where no one baked, developing recipes based on the food she ate as a child, and speaking up about racism and sexism in food media.Every Friday, we reach into our deep freezer and reheat an episode to serve up to you. For many, “The Great British Bakeoff” is must-see TV – and watching it has taught us a lot about food. Ruby Tandoh is a journalist who was also a finalist on the show, and she joins host Krys Boyd to discuss how everyone is a “foodie” now, why hard-to-find ingredients are all the rage even in the Average Joe's kitchen, and how unlimited access to recipes online has made us more discerning. Her book is “All Consuming: Why We Eat the Way We Eat Now.” Learn about your ad choices: dovetail.prx.org/ad-choices

In their heyday of the 1970s and 1980s, there were more than 200 - possibly more than 400 - feminist restaurants and coffee shops in the USA and Canada. These places were aiming to change ways of working, and upend the hierarchies of restaurants; to provide food that was ethically sourced and affordable to customers, while providing staff with a decent wage; to signal to particular kinds of people that a space was specifically for them. They didn't always succeed, and often they didn't last for more than a couple of years. But they sure did try things. Dr Alex Ketchum, author of Ingredients for Revolution, a History of American Feminist Restaurants, Cafes, and Coffeehouses, explains the ups and downs of how these places used words.Visit theallusionist.org/breadroses for more information about today's topics, plus a transcript of the episode.Support the show at theallusionist.org/donate and as well as keeping this independent podcast going, you also get behind-the-scenes info about every episode; livestreams with me, Martin and my ever-growing collection of dictionaries, and the charming and nurturing Allusioverse Discord community, where we're watching the current season of Great British Bake Off, and donors are learning that apparently it is a surprisingly productive source of writing inspiration for me.This episode was produced by me, Helen Zaltzman, on the unceded ancestral and traditional territory of xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
