David is absolutely loving the current series of The Great Pottery Throw Down, so much so that he really wants to become one of its hosts. As Joe's not seen the show before, David enthusiastically explains everything about it to him and what incredibly cosy TV it is. They then both have a think about what skills would be needed for David to join its presenting team. But after quite a few tries at him reading out some of the presenter links, they start to suspect that he might not have the right personality for it? Undeterred by this, they plough on with the presenter practicing - and even get in touch with one of the show's previous hosts Ellie Taylor to get some tips. This one was a long old episode to record, so we've split it in half for you. The Great Pottery Throw Down is a British television competition that has become hugely popular. Each week a selection of Britain's best home potters compete to become champion ‘of the pottery.' However, despite all of the skills displayed, and all of the different types of pots are created, there is one thing that remains consistent.  None of the pots formed themselves.  There are no “self-made pots.” Here's what makes God's question to Israel, then, leap off the page in Isaiah. It also reminds us what it means that God has created and formed us. It also helps us to more fully appreciate His love.

2023 Great Pottery Throw Down contestant Rebecca Norris tells me how she reignited her creative flame through pottery while navigating the demands of a teaching career.Rebecca was brought up in Northern England, where working-class values often overshadowed her artistic ambitions. She recounts finding solace in art during her school years and the subsequent pressure to prioritize a pragmatic career over her creative interests. Yet, despite these challenges, Rebecca's story is a beacon of inspiration, showcasing her ability to weave creativity into her life, teaching pottery workshops, crafting her own pieces, and imparting her knowledge at a local art school.Rebecca studied politics and English, although she didn't get along with ‘traditional' university, so changed to home study instead, and emigrated from the UK to Australia with her husband and son. While working in teaching, and after a significant health struggle, Rebecca made the decision to try as many craft disciplines as she could, and began reconnecting with her artistic side. And for those with a penchant for behind-the-scenes insights, Rebecca takes us through the labyrinth of emotions that came with her stint on the Great Pottery Throw Down. From the initial nerves of the application process to the empowering environment of the show, Rebecca's experience as a contestant reveals the deep connection between creativity and emotional well-being. Finally, as we discuss the complexities of pursuing a creative path post-show, Rebecca candidly discusses her future aspirations and the community support that sustains her. The star presenter and judge of Channel 4's The Great Pottery Throw Down looks back on his life and career - and the passion for ceramics that started it all. Keith Brymer Jones is the star presenter and judge of Channel 4's The Great Pottery Throw Down, famous for his emotional responses to the heartfelt and personal pieces made by contestants on the show. He is also the ultimate professional craftsman who's done the hard yards to get where he is today, working his way up from being a skivvy in an industrial pottery to running his own hugely successful international ceramics business. Here, in his first ever memoir, Keith tells the story of his life and inspiring rise to success through the objects and images that have been meaningful to him every step of the way, as he recounts key moments and events as well as the people and places that have shaped him. From his childhood and early devotion to dance to discovering clay at the age of 11, to his tough apprenticeship at Harefield Pottery and struggles to establish his own business, this memoir goes beyond the TV show to offer us a rare insight into Keith's own philosophy and outlook on life.

Andi and Lise chat about the movie Army of the Dead (2020), a zombie heist gore-fest directed by Zach Snyder (Dawn of the Dead, 2004). That's right, heist. A zombie outbreak has occurred in Las Vegas after a military convoy crashes and patient zero escapes into the city and the government has to build a wall all around it. A rich casino owner wants a team to sneak into the city to crack a vault in his casino and snag two hundred million dollars. However, all may not be as it seems, either with the casino owner, the heist plan, and the zombies themselves. Andi and Lise highly recommend that you not dig too deep into this; you'll only end up asking WTF more than once. Take it as pure adrenaline-fueled entertainment and don't scratch the surface. Also, this movie probably isn't appropriate for young folx (kids, 'tweens, some teens) because it is, as mentioned, a gore-fest.  More info and trailer can be found at IMDb; stream it on Netflix.  Shout-outs: Lise highly recommends the series “The Great Pottery Throw Down,” available on HBO Max. It's a British reality show along the lines of the “Great British Bake-off” in which the competition is to decide Britain's best home potter. Four seasons now streaming. Andi raves about the graphic novel Snapdragon (2020) by Kat Leyh, about a girl who doesn't fit in and ends up befriending the town “witch” and in doing so, finds out more about her own capabilities. Queer rep, amazing art, great story, wonderful characters.

This week's Real Housewives of Beverly Hills sends them into another Erika Jayne deep dive - does Camille Grammer's viral tweet have merit? What's real and what's (intentionally) runny mascara? A silly scene in Siesta Key leads Taylor to ask Alyssa questions about the risks of paddle boarding in "doody water". Doing The Most With Phoebe Robinson joined the ranks of "rich people hanging out with each other" shows last week, and Here For It author R. Eric Thomas joined US to talk about the 2 Dope Queens co-host's foray into TV, including clunky animations, guest chemistry, and whether the animals in the pilot were too well-behaved. Dave was Not A Crackpot about leaving internet-based "fun" to the experts before we went Around The Dial with Kung Fu, Home Economics, Cybill, The Great Pottery Throw Down, United States Of Al, and Pennyworth. Then we studied some layouts for a first-season Ugly Betty submission before declaring a Winner and Loser and mashing up character names in Game Time. Don't be an ass; listen to an all-new Extra Hot Great. GUESTS

Reality-TV vet Andy Dehnart has seen a LOT of unscripted crap in his decades in the field, so we're glad he brought his expertise to our discussion of this unprecedented time in the genre's history: the home-shot, socially-distanced versions/spin-offs of some of our old "favorites," plus some new DIY unscripted stuff tailored to pandemic "set" safety. We talked about the challenges facing reality competitions in the Zoom-show era, then drilled down on a few specific shows like Dr. Pimple Popper: Before The Pop, Ghosted: Love Gone Missing, Design At Your Door, and Amy Schumer Learns To Cook. What works for these shows and what doesn't? What innovations -- or filler-busters -- should they keep when quarantine's over? Later, we went Around The Dial with Challenger: The Final Flight, Get Organized With The Home Edit, 16 And Recovering, and The Great Pottery Throw Down, and Tara shared a Tiny Tessitoriumph. We petitioned a reality-competition court to overthrow legendary injustices in the day's Extra Credit, and Andy argued to OUR jury that the first-season Survivor finale acquitted itself well enough to join the Canon. Sam Elliott won, the English language lost, and every night is Saturday night at Game Time. Set up that ring light: it's an all-new Extra Hot Great. GUESTS
