“Before I started my internship at Visa, I [ran] a small eco-hotel in the mountains of Ukraine. It was a travel co-working space. It was after the first invasion in 2014. A lot of travel agencies were closed and travel managers needed to work somewhere so I decided to open a space where everybody could help each other and develop the travel industry,” Nataliia Ievtushenko, first an intern and now a full-time employee at Visa tells Andrew Wrobel in the eighth episode of Emerging Europe Talks She's Next empowered by Visa. “During the [internship] interview, I chose the product team. It's very interesting for me to see how products are created from the beginning, from the idea until the product is done.” “I'm the head of the women's Visa network inside the company. And I used to be the mentor for some of the newcomers and some of the women in the network. It's really great to feel that your experience, your advice helps someone to grow or just to realise themselves, to achieve results or even to build a relationship with someone. It's important not only for the mentee but also for the mentor just to know that they are helping the younger generation grow, find new paths,” Svitlana Chyrva, Vice President, Country Manager for Visa in Ukraine and Moldova, adds.

Russia's war is fought on many fronts, but one of the key ones is information. It could be said that between 2014 and 2022 Russia was ahead in the information war, but Ukraine has caught up and overtaken since the full-scale war began in February 2022. Today I am speaking with DATTALION: UKRAINE'S DATA BATTALION. DATTALION is home to the largest free, independent, open-source database of Ukraine war footage. In addition to compiling footage from across Ukrainian and Russian-occupied territories, Dattalion hosts a database of verified eyewitness accounts of Russian aggression, war crimes and acts of genocide in Ukraine. DATTALION's database of Ukraine war photos and videos has been active since February 27, 2022, and includes war footage from February 24 - the first day of Russia's full-scale military invasion onwards. Links: https://dattalion.com/ Nataliya Mykolska is Chief Executive Officer of DATTALION. Nataliia is a technology visionary and expert in strategic transformation, building bridges between Ukraine and the world. She is a non-executive member of the board Ukrhydroenergo, PJSC. Nataliia is also co-founder of women's empowerment platform SheExports. She was co-founder of the Trade+ Centre at Kyiv School of Economics and is a member of the Supervisory Board at TechUkraine. Between 2015 and 2018 Nataliia was The Trade Representative of Ukraine, and Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade. She helped found DATTALION to help Ukraine to win this war. She knows that data is power, and it is her chosen weapon in this war for her country, for the future of her children's and for global democracy.

Today's episode features a real life mermaid. Nataliia Zharkova is a world record breaking freediver and five-time World Champion but she didn't find freediving, freediving found her. Co-host Dawn first met Nataliia in 2021 when she worked with the team at Deep Dive Dubai and took an introductory freedive lesson with her. Yes, you too can train with this phenomenal athlete in Dubai! What struck Dawn about freediving at the time was the slow and graceful athleticism that freedivers need to be successful in their sport. As you'll hear in Nataliia's discussion with Dawn, her accomplishments in the freediving world came quite naturally. Among those accomplishments are five World Championships and six World Records. She is one of only two women in history to freedive the Arch of the Blue Hole in the Red Sea with only a monofin. She is also the 7th woman in the world to reach a depth of 100m in a single breath - 102m in fact. Her longest breath hold is a staggering 6 minutes and 23 seconds. In the context of hustle culture and what can sometimes be a toxic focus on achievement in sport, this discussion with Nataliia challenges perceptions on how it's possible to reach your goals. We chat through her upbringing in the Ukraine, her start in swimming, the power of the mind in freediving, and what it takes to slow down, both in the water and outside of it. We also chat through how Nataliia sees freediving as a sport of hope and a sport of the future. In this new episode of this special series of our podcast, we talked with Nataliia, a Young European Ambassador from Ukraine who introduced us to a particular aspect of this conflict: being a Ukrainian citizen living abroad. Being away from her country in such a difficult time it's really challenging for what she addresses as “mental health”. Through this interview she opened up to us, showing a new side of this conflict and how deeply it can affect people even from afar. Eventually, she found a way to react, engaging in her local community to be with her country, with both head and heart. Nataliia Yaroshenko is currently a PhD student in the field of ecology working with the plant population analysis. She holds a bachelor degree in Biology, Master's in ecology (Cherkasy National University named after B. Khmelnytskyi) and a bachelor degree in Foreign languages teaching (English and Spanish). In 2016 Nataliia was honored to complete the Study of US Institutes program (Environmental issues, the University of Oregon, the USA) and won the CAPSTONE project award in 2017. Nataliia is an active volunteer in local initiatives and participant of the Erasmus+ youth exchanges and training courses with the experience of coaching the sessions about human rights, sustainability and social inclusion. The other part of Nataliia's life belongs to the Ukrainian cultural potential by being a co-organizer of Cherkasy Book Festival, SHEfest, Sumy Rock Fest initiatives. Matilde Fabrizio is a student in Political Science and International Relations at the Cesare Alfieri University of Florence. She is currently in Paris where she is living the Erasmus+ experience at Sorbonne University. Matilde's dedication to international affairs goes far beyond a simple passion and interest in her studies; thanks to the many experiences she had abroad, she has always felt part of a community much larger and broader than just that of her home country. Matilde believes in a world in which the diversity of countries and cultures is a richness and an opportunity for everyone, and she works every day to see it realized. Her goal as a Young European Ambassador is to move further the gaze of those who still cannot see this world. Matilde finds beauty in complexity. Rose Dahl is an international student of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme from Germany. She is currently involved in several activities, such as guiding international exchange students through their programmes, participating in Model United Nations Conferences and volunteering as a journalist for a local newspaper.

Mein deutsches Lieblingswort: „Perspektivwechsel“.
