While previously announced writers Christina Hodson and Oren Uziel might still be collaborating, there's no confirmation yet. Fast XI, initially set for April 2025, is now delayed to 2026, with Diesel already training for the film. The last instalment featured Dom Toretto's crew battling Dante Reyes, played by Jason Momoa, and earned over $700 million globally. The final chapter is in early pre-production, aiming to continue the franchise's high-octane legacy.

The development of a film based on The Flash began in the late 1980s, with multiple writers and directors attached to the project through 2014. The Flash premiered at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on June 12, 2023, and was released in the United States on June 16, following multiple delays caused by director changes, the COVID-19 pandemic, post-production setbacks and controversies surrounding Miller. Editors - Jason Ballantine ACE and Paul Machliss ACE While THE FLASH editors Jason Ballantine ACE and Paul Machliss ACE* both hail from Australia, this latest entry in the DCEU would be their first time meeting one another. Both editors have been advancing their careers away from their homeland for quite some time. Jason has worked in LA for the past ten years, while Paul has been in London for the last twenty. The director who would be responsible for bringing these two together is Andy Muschietti, Jason's director for IT (2017) and IT CHAPTER TWO (2019). The two editors split editing duties pretty much down the middle for THE FLASH, each taking five of the film's ten reels. One thing that did separate them for much of the film's development was geography. While Jason was holding down the fort at Warner Brothers Studios in LA, Paul was on location in the UK for seven months, assembling main unit footage with Muschietti. Following production, Machliss would join Jason in LA for six additional months of editing. And it would be six more months before Ballantine would put the final touches on the highly anticipated "metahuman" movie. Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, THE FLASH is the thirteenth installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film is directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen (The Flash) alongside Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton, Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston and Maribel Verdú. In the film, Barry travels back in time to prevent his mother's death, which traps him in an alternate reality without metahumans. Barry enlists the help of; his younger self, an older Batman and the Kryptonian castaway Supergirl in order to save this world from General Zod and return to his universe. JASON BALLANTINE ACE Jason Ballantine began his editing career in the horror genre (one which he would return to often) with the Australian thriller WOLF CREEK (2005). From there he would edit other fright flicks, such as PROM NIGHT (2008), CRUSH (2009) and NEEDLE (2010). But it would be his work on director Andy Muschietti's adaptation of Stephen King's IT (2017) and IT: CHAPTER TWO (2019) that would put an exclamation point on Jason's work in the horror medium. Jason has also previously teamed up with directors Baz Luhrmann and Matthew Vaughn for THE GREAT GATSBY (2013) and THE KING'S MAN (2021) respectively. PAUL MACHLISS ACE While known most prominently for his work with Edgar Wright; SPACED (1999-2001), SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD (2010), THE WORLD'S END (2013), BABY DRIVER (2017) and LAST NIGHT IN SOHO (2021), Paul also edited; the pilot episode of FLEABAG (2016), eighteen episodes of THE IT CROWD (2006-2008) and films such as THE KID WHO WOULD BE KING (2019) and THE GENTLEMEN (2019). For his work on BABY DRIVER, Paul was nominated for an Oscar® alongside co-editor John Amos. * [Publisher's Note] The guests wish to express their regret and apologies for using he/him pronouns in referencing Ezra Miller (they/them). Special guest Brogan Luke Bouwhis joins us this week to review The Flash, which stars Ezra Miller as the fastest person alive...at avoiding crimes? Anyway, the DCEU is currently being taken over by James Gunn, which makes The Flash a bit of a holdover from another era. That's probably why it has plenty of other eras inside its runtime, because yes, it's a multiverse plot. Comic book movies have no other choice these days. We give our thoughts on the movie, which certainly Vary Allen. We then open up the show for some spoiler discussion (with plenty of warning) then finish the show with the Rotten Tomatoes Game. The Flash was directed by Andy Muschietti (the It movies) and written by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey). In addition to Miller, the cast includes Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue, Michael Keaton, and plenty of spoilery cameos we won't give away. The film opened nationwide on June 16 through Warner Bros and has a 144-minute runtime. Our intro music this week is “Gato” by TyLuv. & Strehlow. Hey everyone, welcome back to another review here on MOVIE MORNING and today, I finally review one of my most anticipated movies of the year: The Flash. Wow, the narrative on this film has changed SO MUCH over the past number of years. Initially learning that cameras were FINALLY rolling on a Flash film, who is my 2nd favorite DC character of all-time, and that Michael Keaton (& Ben Affleck) would make appearances were so exciting but everyone's excitement was drowned out last year due to the Ezra Miller controversy. Then, as soon as the trailers and news about how good this movie was dropped, everybody's hype level, including my own, shot back up and I have been EAGERLY anticipating this day. At long last, here is my review of THE FLASH in a spoiler-free fashion. The Flash: Directed by: Andy Muschietti Screenplay by: Christina Hodson, John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein Screen Story by: Joby Harold Producers: Barbara Muschietti, Michael Disco Executive Producers: Toby Emmerich, Walter Hamada, Marianne Jenkins, Galen Vaisman Music by: Benjamin Wallfisch Cinematography by: Henry Braham Editing by: Jason Ballantine, Paul Machliss Casting by: Rich Delia, Kate Ringsell Production Design by: Paul D. In order to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry's only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

Believe it or not, Brian and TJ sat down to do a FlyBy - not only that, they saw three movies starring one character; Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie). They watched: 2016's Suicide Squad, based on the DC Comics supervillain team of the same name. Written and directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Scott Eastwood, Karen Fukuhara, Ike Barinholtz, and Cara Delevingne. Sadly they actually watched the extended version of this "movie." They followed up with a movie that went through an identity crisis in 2020's Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), or Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey or simply Birds of Prey based on the DC Comics team, the Birds of Prey and serves as both a spin-off and sequel to Suicide Squad (2016). It was directed by Cathy Yan and written by Christina Hodson, starring Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina, Ella Jay Basco, Ali Wong, and Ewan McGregor. And finally, they tackled the movie people on Twitter have been talking about for weeks (so why not add fuel to this fire); 2021's THE Suicide Squad, a standalone sequel to Suicide Squad (2016). Written and directed by James Gunn and stars an ensemble cast including Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Peter Capaldi. Look, it's not a transformers movie, just think of it that way, and you'll like it. I need people to see it. It's good, you know? Like it's really a very solid film, and it doesn't deserve to be treated like some Bayhem 3 hour explosives demonstration. There is like, zero Mark Wahlberg in this one. Does that help? Please just watch it. Travis Knight and Christina Hodson need us! Will you just abandon them in their hour of need? I say nay, let us be the Bumblebee to their decidedly uncool teenager.

This week on Total Movie Recall, Steve and Ryan offend approximately 1/7th of the world's population, which has historically gone very well. Ryan's love of fairy tale settings don't truck with Steve, who favors Disney's gritty, street-level crime drama Aladdin. Ryan gets vulnerable about the deterioration of his mental health in this dumpster fire world we have, and Steve, ever a good man and a good friend, reaches out. We encourage you to reach out too. Because everything sucks right now, and you need to connect with your fellow humans to survive. Also, this is the worst Disney princess ever. Aladdin (1992) - Disney d. *Reviewing Disney+'s Hamilton & Discussing The Future Of Movie Theaters* In another wonderfully 'host-full' show this week, we have a ton of news to discuss. Tenet is yet again delayed, major theater chains are also pushing back, and so that begs the question, "will we actually see a new theatrical release this year?" We react to new trailers for Pixar's Soul , as well as the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect starring the one and only Jennifer Hudson. Margot Robbie is developing a new Pirates of the Caribbean film with Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson, and for some reason we are getting a reboot of the film Twister. There's a lot to unpack there. Hamilton , the broadway musical from Lin-Manuel Miranda that took the world over, is hitting Disney+ this weekend, and we have some really strong reactions having now seen the film version of the show. Hi everyone! Welcome back for another Takeover Tuesday. You know, when I saw today’s movie was coming up, I knew I had to call in the big guns for this review. And when they weren’t available, I called up Dave and Chris at the Comics in Motion Podcast, because they are gluttons for punishment, but also have a lot of insightful things to say about comics books on the big and small screens. Today’s review will be covering the DCEU’s latest installment, HARLEY QUINN: BIRDS OF PREY, but don’t miss their previous reviews for ALIEN VS. PREDATOR (Episode #605) and for 30 DAYS OF NIGHT (Episode #626), both of which were for Reign of Terror 2019. Their promo will run before the review. Speaking of Takeover Tuesday, do you think you have what it takes to guest on One Movie Punch? Head over to onemoviepunch.com/takeover-tuesday and learn more about how you can guest here at One Movie Punch. We still have three (3) slots available this quarter for aspiring and established film critics to take the reins for an episode. We’ll run your promo before the review and will place it in regular rotation for the quarter. If it sounds like something interesting to you, reach out to us over social media. Subscribe to stay current with the latest releases. Contribute at Patreon for exclusive content. Connect with us over social media to continue the conversation. Here we go! ///// > ///// Hello and welcome! I’m Chris Phelps, and I’m Dave Horrocks. And we are Comics In Motion. What we like to do is to review exclusively movies and TV shows that are based on comic books. We of course review the well-known and recognizable properties with plenty of spandex, but also some of the less well known that have made that transition from the page to the big and small screens. Today’s movie is the recently renamed HARLEY QUINN: BIRDS OF PREY. This is the eighth installment of the DC Movie Universe and is directed by Cathy Yan and written by Christina Hodson. Though Harley herself was created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm and made her debut in the 90’s Batman Animated Series before appearing in comics. And the first Birds of Prey team also made their debut in the 1990’s and was created by Chuck Dixon and Jordan B. Gorfinkel. We pick up the story sometime after the events of the 2016 SUICIDE SQUAD and after a less than mutual break-up for Gotham city’s most toxic couple, Harley Quinn finds herself a target for a long list of people with various grievances against her over the years. At the front of the queue is nefarious villain Roman Sionis and his right-hand muscle, Victor Zsasz. Harley has an uneasy alliance with the gangster and agrees to search for the young Cassandra Cain and on her journey, has an unlikely super-hero team up. This review will be spoiler free. Warner Brothers more recent focus has been on producing good quality stand-alone movies for their DC properties, like AQUAMAN (Episode #366), SHAZAM! (Episode #455), and the recent Oscar winner, JOKER (Episode #630). And expectations were high they could continue this recent streak of good form. The movie flaunts its R-rating with some grisly early scenes and there are a number of impressive action sequences, often accompanied with an explosion of color bursting out of the screen to really give that comic book feel. The change from the original title BIRDS OF PREY (AND THE FANTABULOUS EMANCIPATION OF ONE HARLEY QUINN) to simply HARLEY QUINN: BIRDS OF PREY reflects the movie’s star and the captivating performance of Margot Robbie who commands your attention whenever she’s on screen and is the undoubted star of this show. Robbie’s charismatic performance can be a double-edged sword as it leaves some of her co-stars without enough character growth or even screen time for a movie which runs for almost 110 minutes. Ewan MacGregor does an adequate job as the main villain and there are some tense scenes which are really quite uncomfortable to watch. But to really invest in our heroes, we need an A-class antagonist and unfortunately, he falls just short. The tone of the movie can range from hyper-violence, to solidify its R-rating, to more PG fight scenes which wouldn’t look out of place in the 1997 Joel Schumacher directed BATMAN & ROBIN. Margot Robbie has made this character her own on the big screen and her star quality is unquestionable. The R-rating does limit the audience, possibly unnecessarily, as a team of kick ass, strong women would appeal to many younger fans. HARLEY QUINN: BIRDS OF PREY is a colorful comic book spectacle with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, definitely front and center. The dynamic action scenes and cinematography are best consumed on the big screen and so we recommend you make sure you go catch this one in theatres while you can! Rotten Tomatoes: 79% (CERTIFIED FRESH) Metacritic: 60 (METACRITIC MUST SEE) One Movie Punch: 7.0/10 HARLEY QUINN: BIRDS OF PREY (2020) is rated R and is available in theaters now.

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), or simply Birds of Prey, is a 2020 American superhero film based on the DC Comics team Birds of Prey. It is the eighth film in the DC Extended Universe, and a follow-up to Suicide Squad (2016). It was directed by Cathy Yan and written by Christina Hodson, and stars Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina, Ella Jay Basco, Ali Wong, and Ewan McGregor. The film follows Harley Quinn as she joins forces with Black Canary, Helena Bertinelli, and Renee Montoya to save Cassandra Cain from Gotham City crime lord Black Mask. The majority of the cast and crew were confirmed by December 2018. Principal photography lasted from January to April 2019 in Downtown Los Angeles, parts of the Arts District, Los Angeles, and soundstages at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California. Additional filming took place in September 2019. Birds of Prey is the first DCEU film and the second DC Films production to be rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America. The film had its world premiere in Mexico City on January 25, 2020, and was theatrically released in the United States in IMAX, Dolby Cinema and 4DX on February 7, 2020. The Filmlosophers, Eddie Villanueva, Chad Riley and Spencer Williams, get a bit retro with this week's spirited review of Bumblebee (2018). Set in the late 1980s, the film stars Hailee Steinfeld as the original teenage “owner” of the fan-favorite, speech impaired Transformer. Directed by Travis Knight from a script by Christina Hodson, this latest entry in the critically maligned franchise co-stars John Cena and features the voice talents of Peter Cullen, Dylan O'Brien, Angela Bassett and Justin Theroux. The big question this time around isn't really about the storyline or characters...it's whether or not audiences even want to spend money on a franchise that's been the source of so much disappointment for a decade or more. Listen in as we slice, dice, dissect and recombine our thoughts about the spinoff film, which is produced by Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay. Has it transformed us into true believers once more, or merely reminded us of the deceptions of the past?

The Transformers movie franchise has had a rough time despite its success monetarily as a series. Bumblebee seeks to redeem the series and it succeeds all the way by going back to basics. The Australian Stallion RETURNS! After we do some Real talk on politics in both the States and Down Under, we dive into the amazing year in video games that is 2018. In addition to Spider-Man and Shadow of the Tomb Raider video game released (Alaisdair loved them both), we talk about our video game crushes (Alaisdair loves Roy Conrad in Full Throttle while the Bizzle crushes hard on Chloe Frazier from the Uncharted games) which includes both of us being excited about Henry Cavill playing The Witcher on Netflix. And in the final section, the Bizzle asks the question on all of our minds: WHAT THE HELL IS WB/DC DOING WITH THEIR MOVIE AND TV PROPERTIES?!? This includes an update on Birds of Prey, the Bizzle’s ongoing prediction about Hailee Steinfeld as Batgirl (being written by Christina Hodson who is writing her in BUMBLEBEE this Xmas), and what else is running smoothly outside of WONDER WOMAN 1984 which we all can not WAIT for. "We deal in lead, friend." The Magnificent Seven is a breeze to watch. It’s fun. It has that clean vibe of early Hollywood westerns. Plus it’s based on Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, giving it some serious street cred. Despite all of that, however, it was quite a legal imbroglio to get made. Yet once released, it eventually became successful enough to spur three sequels, a TV series and more. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we continue our Seven Samurai family series with John Sturges’ 1960 film The Magnificent Seven. We talk about the differences between Kurosawa’s film and Sturges’, what works for us in those changes and why we suspect they were made. We touch on the Mexican censors required during production to ensure the script kept their people in a positive light. We chat about the actors, notably Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Eli Wallach, Charles Bronson and James Coburn, and what they bring to the table (aside from testosterone). We hit on Elmer Bernstein’s iconic score and highlight the main theme, arguably the greatest western theme written. And we chat about the production trouble this film had, not to mention the issues with the writers. It’s a fun film, even if it’s one that falls short of the original when directly compared. We have a magnificent time chatting about it regardless and are certainly looking forward to seeing the remake. So tune in and join us!
