Colorful toilet paper was a staple of bathroom design until the 1980's because who could endure the eyesore of a white roll within a perfectly curated room?So where did these colorful rolls go? Why did they go? There are a few theories:The dyes in the toilet paper were an environmental concern . The dyes in the toilet paper were irritating peoples skin and Dr. starting advising people use white toilet paper. Colorful bathrooms were on the way out and toilet paper went out along side them. With colorful bathroom fixtures becoming available again and recent paint color trends becoming more colorful...could we see a resurgence of colorful toilet paper? On a very special Origin of Speakcies, Scott and Steve discuss terms - Big-Hearted, Heart of Gold, True Blue, and Raconteur - that describe the life and character of their late friend and brother, Jeff Forbes.   The guys reflect on their memories of Jeff and his impact and influence on their lives.  To lighten the mood, they also talk about Jeff's second biggest "attribute,"  but conclude by focusing on Jeff's biggest gift and quality by far - his heart.   If you want to honor Jeff Forbes, please send a donation to the Virginia Beach SPCA at https://vbspca.com/donate/ or animal shelter of your choice.   God bless you, Big Squirrel.  You are loved and missed, and you will never be forgotten.    Obituary of Jeffrey Todd Forbes     Jeffrey Todd Forbes, 47, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, November 13, 2021, surrounded by his family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Guy (Skeets) and Betty Forbes, William and Lucille Franklin and nephew, Nathan.   Jeff was born on May 11, 1974, in Norfolk, Virginia and grew up in Virginia Beach.  He graduated from Rock Church Academy.  He worked for Virginia Beach City Public Schools for almost 22 years with a title of General Maintenance, Craftsman III at the time of his death.   Jeff is survived by his mother, Gladys, his father, Donald, and stepmother Cheryl, his brother Brian and wife Tammy, his brother Mark, his brother Chris and wife Amy, his brother Anthony and wife Shawna, and his brother Brad and fiancé Melanie, nephews: Brett, Micheal, Ryder, Matt, Wesley, and Josh and nieces: Hailey & Tharin and many loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.   Anyone who knew Jeff, was touched by his kindness, humor, and his willingness to give to others.  He was a wonderful person that would be there for you whenever you needed him.  He was one of the good ones, that truly put others before himself and loved everyone unconditionally.  He had a special place in his heart for all the children in his life, whether it was teaching them how to use tools or spoiling them with trips to 7-11 for junk food.  He was a pushover when they asked to go to the store for that one more toy they had to have or picking up his nephew, Micheal from school almost every day just because he didn't want to ride the bus.  Again, he would do anything for them.   He was an avid, passionate and most times very animated Duke Basketball, New York Mets and Dallas Cowboys fan.  Jeff was a true dog lover, with his pit bulls always being his favorite.   Jeff was an amazing carpenter, who loved working with his hands.  He enjoyed his home improvement shows like, This Old House, Holmes on Homes and Bob Villa.   In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the SPCA or any animal shelter of your choosing.

You Ask, We Answer When you need to do some serious dad talk, you head out to the Barn to get it done!  All five dads were finally able to come together in-person to answer popular dad questions from across the web.  In our annual man weekend in a barn somewhere close to Iowa, special guest Mark makes an appearance on the Dadhouse.  Who's Mark?  Come take a listen and find out.  Now, let's get to the questions. What should you have in your first toolbox?  Crescent wrench—You can't go wrong with a Milwaukee Adjustable Wrench.  10 inches for your first tool kit is just fine.  And it's ok here to go with something cheaper, but a Milwaukee will last you a long time. Utility Knife—A retractable quality utility knife will save you a lot of time, especially when you have kids around.  The blade easily stores away with one quick push of your thumb so the kids stay safe, and the Lennox can hold up to five blades.  That's a win in the dad book. Tape Measure—You don't need a big contractor's tape measure for your toolbox but get something that can take a beating.  The dads love the DeWalt brand.  They make some quality tools.  But get what works within your budget. Level—A small 3 “ level is going to save you a lot of time when you hang pictures.  And if it has a laser attachment, even better.  It's just cool. Hammer—You know what, everyone knows what a hammer is, so we won't recommend one here in the show notes.  A hammer is as personal to a dad as his underwear.  So, try some out and see what fits best. Ratchet Screwdriver—Nine screwdrivers in one, plus the ratchet action.  When it's your first toolkit, having something that takes the place of several tools is a bonus. This is the one Shannon likes. Leatherman Multitool – Convenient, mobile, and a name you can trust.  You can even put this in your diaper bag and be all set. Dogbone Wrench – 48 sockets in one is the way to go.  It will save you money and space in your toolbox.  Plus, never misplace a socket again. Needle Nose Plyers – great for those tough to reach places.  And as this is the one that Bob Villa recommends, we will go with that. What should you keep in your car?  Car sick bags and blankets are pretty standard.  And if you have girls, add a brush, hair ties, and detangler spray.  But add some of these as well. Jumper Cables—This set that Jake recommends has 1 gauge and are long to make jump starting in awkward places even easier. First Aid Kit –Just keep in mind to put multiple different types of band-aids in there.  You'll use them a lot. Baby wipes—you can't go wrong with the Kirkland brand from Costco. What is one unique thing you kept in your diaper bag?  Portable Placemats—great for any adventure, and any dirty table when you are out and about. What does a dad want at a baby shower? Let the cutesy stuff go to someone else.  You want baby wipes, diapers, and gift cards to restaurants.
