But the same is true with so many other things that we deal with everyday.  From supermarket food choices, to menu options, to the clothes we wear, to what insurance to purchase, and even our health care options. There is always an over abundance of choices. But is this a good or a bad thing? Does it improve how we eat? Does it influence how we take care of ourselves? Are we more or less likely to develop good or bad habits because we have so many choices. Does it make us more or less sustainable? So join me for E212 Is Choice Overload the Bane of Our Existence

Purpose: What Evolution and Human Nature Imply about the Meaning of Our Existence by Samuel T. Wilkinson https://amzn.to/3WaeLU5 A Next Big Idea Club Must-Read By using principles from a variety of scientific disciplines, Yale Professor Samuel Wilkinson provides a framework for human evolution that reveals an overarching purpose to our existence. Generations have been taught that evolution implies there is no overarching purpose to our existence, that life has no fundamental meaning. We are merely the accumulation of tens of thousands of intricate molecular accidents. Some scientists take this logic one step further, suggesting that evolution is intrinsically atheistic and goes against the concept of God. But is this true? By integrating emerging principles from a variety of scientific disciplines—ranging from evolutionary biology to psychology—Yale Professor Samuel Wilkinson provides a framework of evolution that implies not only that there is an overarching purpose to our existence, but what this purpose is. With respect to our evolution, nature seems to have endowed us with competing dispositions, what Wilkinson calls the dual potential of human nature. We are pulled in different directions: selfishness and altruism, aggression and cooperation, lust and love. When we couple this with the observation that we possess a measure of free will, all this strongly implies there is a universal purpose to our existence. This purpose, at least one of them, is to choose between the good and evil impulses that nature has created within us. Our life is a test. This is a truth, as old as history it seems, that has been espoused by so many of the world's religions. From a certain framework, these aspects of human nature—including how evolution shaped us—are evidence for the existence of a God, not against it. Closely related to this is meaning. What is the meaning of life? Based on the scientific data, it would seem that one such meaning is to develop deep and abiding relationships. At least that is what most people report are the most meaningful aspects of their lives. This is a function of our evolution. It is how we were created.About the author Samuel T. Wilkinson is Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine, where he also serves as Associate Director of the Yale Depression Research Program. Conventionally, we are taught that evolution implies there is no ultimate purpose to our existence, that life lacks inherent meaning — we are the product of countless intricate molecular and genetic accidents. And to many, evolution leaves little room for, and perhaps even contradicts, the existence of a deity. However, our guest on this episode, Samuel Wilkinson, MD, a professor of psychiatry at Yale University, thinks there is another way to look at evolution. Drawing from an array of disciplines ranging from evolutionary biology to cognitive science, Dr. Wilkinson provides a framework for evolution suggesting not only that there is an overarching purpose to our existence, but what that purpose is. He presents this framework in his 2024 book, Purpose: What Evolution and Human Nature Imply about the Meaning of Our Existence. Over the course of our conversation, Dr. Wilkinson shares how an existential crisis during medical school led him down the path of exploring the ways evolution can be reconciled with fundamental questions and answers about life's meaning; how navigating the dual potential of human nature — pulling us between selfishness and altruism, aggression and cooperation — is key to understanding our purpose; why evolution does not exclude the possibility of existence of a god or gods; the importance of relationships in living fulfilling lives; the role of free will in the choice between good and evil; and more. In this episode, you'll hear about: 3:37 - How a drive to understand human nature drove Dr. Wilkinson to leave his engineering studies and pursue a career as a psychiatrist. 4:44 - The scope of Dr. Wilkinson's work at Yale 7:13 - What studying depression has taught Dr. Wilkinson about human nature 9:00 - How Dr. Wilkinson views the connection between evolution and God 24:00 - How the central argument of Dr. Wilkinson's book differs from intelligent design26:41 - Dr. Wilkinson's view of selfishness in human nature 37:49 - The deeper meaning that Dr. Wilkinson sees within the biological patterns of evolution 39:04 - The validity of moral relativism43:42 - “The Rider and the Elephant” as a metaphor for human nature 45:43 - Dr. Wilkinson's thoughts on free will 55:15 - How marriage can provide a cornerstone to building “a good life” 58:10 - The way in which Dr. Wilkinson's faith fits into his personal view of human nature 1:04:42 - How Dr. Wilkinson brings these principles into his clinical practice Dr. Samuel Wilkinson is the author of Purpose: What Evolution and Human Nature Imply about the Meaning of Our Existence (2024). Works and Individuals Discussed:The Selfish Gene by Richard DawkinsDetermined: A Science of Life Without Free Will by Robert SapolskyMichael Behe and the concept of intelligent design Free Will by Sam Harris

It produces a system for the "natural man" and for altruism. We discuss the hot points between evolution and religion as well as the cooperation between the two. Listen in as we tackle the intriguing topic of altruism in the evolutionary narrative, debunking the myth that survival hinges solely on selfishness. The significance of relationships and family takes center stage in our discussion as we share insights into how these bonds form the bedrock of happiness and meaning in our lives. Explore findings from the Harvard Adult Development Study that showcase the undeniable link between well-being and warm, supportive connections. The conversation doesn't shy away from the hard truths either, addressing the impact of detachment in early life and the innate human craving for closeness. We also dissect the psychological and evolutionary drivers that make personal relationships a central pillar of our contentment. Learn about the role of affective forecasting in our lives, highlighting our tendency to misjudge what will bring us true happiness, and the constant balancing act required to nurture our most cherished connections. We delve into the dual nature of humans—capable of both selfish and altruistic behaviors—and how the success of partnerships and family life often hinges on the willingness to put collective needs above individual desires. •     We have to really re-learn to find it. First of all, who we truly really are, it's not what they've given you and told you who you are, it's who you discover that you are, and it's important for us to do the research, for us to each take our own individual trip, their own journey to inner space, and that's going to come through a research investigation study. Everybody's got special gifts and talents and even passions in this journey that others don't have. (2:00)•     I had an epiphany at age 7, I said, Wow, there's nobody coming to save me, I'm going to have to save myself, that was my exact thought. I realized from that moment forward that anything that I wanted to do, anything I need to achieve, it was going to take action and energy on my part. I was going to be the one to put the energy exchange into the system to get the result that I wanted, and if I didn't do that, I would be stuck in the system or the place where I was. I couldn't afford to complain about it because I left myself there. (7:42)•    The Bible was supposedly written by different people in different books, but I really wanted to find out, was this written in real time or was just put together much later? I found it much later, that it was written between 180 to 900 AD, and it was written by the phoenicians, followers of Hermes. They were just collecting wherever tidbits of scriptures and in the scrolls and papyrus that they came across that were collectively putting this stuff together into this book. Much later, the Council of Nicea came across it and they orchestrated it into this, what they call a canonized Bible, where they took things out and move things and changed words and phrases around by accident and on-purpose, and mis-translated some words, that were very important by the way, and kind of cultivated it into their own control system book. (9:25)•    I've been through ups and downs, highs and lows, I had a lot of money and lost at all too, I've done everything. So all those things are there for us to become better teachers, so we can actually relate to everybody on every single level. There's not one person out there, I could talk to the highest level of quatum physics, and the way I can talk to Mishio Kaku, have a conversation with him for hours, and I can go talk to somebody that's living in a low class income neighborhood on Section 8, and I can sit there and have a great conversation with them for many, many hours. I can talk to a homeless person, I can talk to a middle class person, a wealthy person, it doesn't matter who it is, on every level, I can contribute and I can be on their level, sincerely, not fake, but sincerely, because I've experienced everything from depression to highs and lows, being married, being divorced, having kids, I've done it all. (14:50)•    I don't chase money, I chase my passions, and because I chase my passions, abundance is the side effect. I want people to understand that spirituality and manifesting your financial abundance goes hand in hand, and that anyone can do it. Whatever abundances is for you, There's a different levels of abundance for everyone, Everybody's got a different meaning of abundance in their brain, some people it's having billions of dollars, but those people do a lot in the world, and for some people, just having all their bills pay without having to stress and worry. It's about relieving our stress and finances. For me, it's not about chasing money, it's about buying my freedom, (19:51)ABOUT BILLY:Billy Carson is the founder and CEO of 4BiddenKnowledge Inc, and the Best Selling Author of The Compendium Of The Emerald Tablets and Woke Doesn't Mean Broke.Mr. Carson is also the founder and CEO of 4BiddenKnowledge TV, a new conscious streaming TV network, and is an expert host on Deep Space, a new original streaming series by Gaia. •   And I knew even as a kid, airplanes would take a long time across the horizon. So I started investigating and researching aerospace the next day and went to my elementary school, Rambo Park, took on all the Encyclopedia Botanica's on Interspace, and I literally started that day researching into aerospace and technology. So technology and aerospace came long before the ancient civilization stuff, and then from there, because we were so poor, where I grew up in Miami, I had sold all of my toys dooor to  door, just so I can have a couple of dollars in my hands, and I told my mom, don't buy me any more toys, just get me books. (8:39)•     I kept researching aerospace technology, and eventually I started realizing correlation between aerospace and advanced tech, or what we call advanced tech, and what appeared to be ancient construction sites were on the planet. The more I dug into it, I started realizing and getting into ancient tablets and realizing that these people were more advanced than us at one point. They were talking about some of the same things we're using today, they had back then, so I realized that we are just another cycle of civilization trying to build back up again. (11:39)•      Downloads are real, as you know, and we all get information from the ether that comes directly into our bodies, and DNA receives information on a Wi-Fi, that's real science, peer-reviewed science. We receive and send information directly from the DNA into space time and back down again, and every thought that exists and ever was thought, exists in spacetime all around us. It permeates the entire energy grid because distance is an illusion, you can download all the years it took me to get this knowledge, you can download that in one minute directly into your body. So the time that you start versus the time I started, we can all be on the same playing field, because consciousness doesn't see time, It doesn't see past president, future, it's all at once, and because the Akashic Records are real, because every thought exist in space time, because it leaves the skull goes out into the ether with the data on it, which was the thoughts, you can grab all those thoughts and bringing it into your body. (19:57)•   They're looking externally for everything, we've been taught and everything is on the outside, and so we look externally, we even want to blame outside exterior things. One of the biggest downfalls of religion is that it gives you this exterior entity to blame all your wrong doings on, so you blame everything on Satan, the devil, and then you go, Well, I can get away with this because all I have to do is just repent now I'm going to be forgiven anyway. And so again, that's more exterior of gratification or what ever you want to call it. And so we're programmed to keep searching outside and requiring outside to take care of instead of taking responsibility for our own thoughts and our own actions. (22:11)•   The chaos really is, people are full of trauma, and we're so full of the trauma and it fills up inside the body, just like you're filling up a glass of water, and when the water gets to the top of the rim of the glass, if you keep putting more water, what happens is, it spills over. The trauma in chaos in our body, it works the same way, so as we have this trauma, as we have all this chaos in our bodies, it begins to fill up, and when it gets to the top, it spills over into our exterior reality. “For the love of Christ constrains us,” was the Apostle Paul's testimony of the powerful mighty tide that energized and motivated him to live to Christ (2 Cor. 5:14). It is this same positive love that must be activated in us in order for us to overcome all the negative loves in the present age and live for the Lord's appearing (2 Tim. 4:8). In this episode, we conclude the series entitled “Our Existence,” with excerpts taken from a time of fellowship given by brother Ron Kangas to the young adults in San Francisco on December 6, 2008. Brother Ron completes his fellowship concerning God's will and God's purpose with the matter of loving God and living to Him. In Second Timothy, the apostle Paul speaks of God's purpose as having become his own purpose. In chapter 1 verse 9 he says, “Who has saved us...not according to our works but according to His own purpose…”; and in chapter 3 verse 11 he says, “But you have closely followed...my purpose…” In this episode we continue the series entitled “Our Existence,” with excerpts taken from a time of fellowship given by brother Ron Kangas to the young adults in San Francisco on December 6, 2008. Send your comments, questions and episode suggestions to: qurantalk@gmail.com   Why Would God Send Anyone to Hell? What is hell? Hell is the absence of God Evil is the absence of goodness Darkness is the absence of light Cold is the absence of heat Hell is the absence of God  God does not send anyone to Hell On the contrary, people insist on going to Hell.   The people who do not develop and nurture their souls we will not be able to physically withstand the presence of God . And on the Day of Judgment, they will flee further away from God. [69:13] When the horn is blown once. [69:14] The earth and the mountains will be carried off and crushed; utterly crushed. [69:15] That is the day when the inevitable event will come to pass. [69:16] The heaven will crack, and fall apart. [69:17] The angels will be all around, and Your Lord's dominion will then encompass eight (universes).[69:18] On that day, you will be exposed, nothing of you can be hidden. *69:17 This earth is full of misery because of its physical distance from God, since it is in the seventh universe (7:143). In the Hereafter, an eighth universe will be created that will be even farther than our seventh universe; it will be called "Hell" (89:23). [89:21] Indeed, when the earth is crushed, utterly crushed. [89:22] And your Lord comes, together with the angels in row after row. [89:23] On that day, Gehenna will be brought forth. On that day, the human being will remember—but what a remembrance—it will be too late. [89:24] He will say, "Oh, I wish I prepared for my (eternal) life."  God gives people the freedom to choose to be in God’s kingdom or not  [19:75] Say, "Those who choose to go astray, the Most Gracious will lead them on, until they see what is promised for them—either the retribution or the Hour. That is when they find out who really is worse off, and weaker in power."   [19:76] GOD augments the guidance of those who choose to be guided. For the good deeds are eternally rewarded by your Lord, and bring far better returns.  Why would anyone choose to be in hell?  Absolute Freedom of Religion [18:29] Proclaim: "This is the truth from your Lord," then whoever wills let him believe, and whoever wills let him disbelieve. We have prepared for the transgressors a fire that will completely surround them. When they scream for help, they will be given a liquid like concentrated acid that scalds the faces. What a miserable drink! What a miserable destiny! How Terrible is Hell!* [22:19] Here are two parties feuding with regard to their Lord. As for those who disbelieve, they will have clothes of fire tailored for them. Hellish liquid will be poured on top of their heads. [22:20] It will cause their insides to melt, as well as their skins. [22:21] They will be confined in iron pots. [22:22] Whenever they try to exit such misery, they will be forced back in: "Taste the agony of burning." *22:19-22 People who have insisted upon going to Hell will inevitably complain: 'Had we known how bad this is, we would have behaved differently.' They will be told that the horrors of Hell have been pointed out to them in the most graphic, though symbolic, terms. It should be noted that Heaven and Hell are almost invariably mentioned together in the Quran. [78:21] Gehenna is inevitable. [78:22] For the transgressors; it will be their abode. [78:23] They stay in it for ages. [78:24] They never taste in it coolness, nor a drink. [78:25] Only an inferno, and bitter food. [38:55] As for the transgressors, they have incurred a miserable destiny. [38:56] Hell is where they burn; what a miserable abode! [38:57] What they taste therein will be hellish drinks and bitter food. Example of Adam and Eve Humans Fail to Make a Firm Stand* [20:115] We tested Adam in the past, but he forgot, and we found him indecisive. [20:116] Recall that we said to the angels, "Fall prostrate before Adam." They fell prostrate, except Satan; he refused. [20:117] We then said, "O Adam, this is an enemy of you and your wife. Do not let him evict you from Paradise, lest you become miserable. [20:118] "You are guaranteed never to hunger therein, nor go unsheltered. [20:119] "Nor will you thirst therein, nor suffer from any heat." [20:120] But the devil whispered to him, saying, "O Adam, let me show you the tree of eternity and unending kingship." [20:121] They ate from it, whereupon their bodies became visible to them, and they tried to cover themselves with the leaves of Paradise. Adam thus disobeyed his Lord, and fell. [20:122] Subsequently, his Lord chose him, redeemed him, and guided him. [20:123] He said, "Go down therefrom, all of you. You are enemies of one another. When guidance comes to you from Me, anyone who follows My guidance will not go astray, nor suffer any misery. Metaphor of a doctor – type 2 diabetes Choose to make bad life choices – eat excess amounts of unhealthy food, lack of exercise Your body will not only stop producing insulin, but you will have to start giving yourselves frequent injections heart, brain and legs complications You can lose your libido You can damage your kidneys or vision You may have to amputate your feet We don’t blame the doctor for telling us these things…  Doctor’s tell us these things because no one else has the courage to tell their loved ones these tough realities  [2:26] GOD does not shy away from citing any kind of allegory,* from the tiny mosquito and greater. As for those who believe, they know that it is the truth from their Lord. As for those who disbelieve, they say, "What did GOD mean by such an allegory?" He misleads many thereby, and guides many thereby. But He never misleads thereby except the wicked, Just like a doctor who warns their patients the consequence of their bad choices, God warns the humans the consequence of neglecting their souls. [9:115] GOD does not send any people astray, after He had guided them, without first pointing out for them what to expect. GOD is fully aware of all things. [74:32] Absolutely, (I swear) by the moon. [74:33] And the night as it passes. [74:34] And the morning as it shines. [74:35] This is one of the great miracles.* [74:36] A warning to the human race. Ostrich Effect People prefer to hear good news rather than bad news People check their portfolios less often when it is doing bad People less willing to see their test scores if they think they underperformed God Doesn’t Need Our Prayers – It is for our own good We came from God and we need Him for our souls survival When we worship God we are connecting back to our source to what gives us life That is why we call the Salat the Contact Prayer  The Purpose of Our Existence [51:56] I did not create the jinns and the humans except to worship Me alone. [51:57] I need no provisions from them, nor do I need them to feed Me. Believe For Your Own Good [39:7] If you disbelieve, GOD does not need anyone. But He dislikes to see His servants make the wrong decision. If you decide to be appreciative, He is pleased for you. No soul bears the sins of any other soul. Ultimately, to your Lord is your return, then He will inform you of everything you had done. He is fully aware of the innermost thoughts. [40:66] Say, "I have been enjoined from worshiping the idols you worship beside GOD, when the clear revelations came to me from my Lord. I was commanded to submit to the Lord of the universe."*
