John is running a cow/calf and crop operation in Wisconsin. I really enjoyed this conversation where we discuss the best ways we have found to make cow/calf work in this region with high snowfall and crusty snow. I also just love stories of folks building operations from scratch like John is doing! On July 19, 2023, historian and bestselling author, Kevin R. C. Gutzman, presented the 2023 Hazel and Fulton Chauncey Lecture. Before the consecutive two-term administrations of Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama, there had only been one other trio of its type: Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe. Kevin R. C. Gutzman's The Jeffersonians is a complete chronicle of the men, known as The Virginia Dynasty, who served as president from 1801 to 1825. The three close political allies were tightly related: Jefferson and Madison were the closest of friends, and Monroe was Jefferson's former law student. Their achievements were many, including the founding of the opposition Republican Party in the 1790s, the Louisiana Purchase, and the call upon Congress in 1806 to use its constitutional power to ban the importation of enslaved people beginning on January 1, 1808. Gutzman's new book details a time in America when three presidents worked toward common goals to face challenges and strengthen our republic in a way we rarely see in American politics today. Kevin R. C. Gutzman is Professor of History at Western Connecticut State University and a faculty member at LibertyClassroom.com. He has his law degree from the University of Texas Law School and his Ph.D. in American history from the University of Virginia. His books include Thomas Jefferson—Revolutionary; James Madison and the Making of America; Virginia's American Revolution; Who Killed the Constitution? (with Thomas Woods); and The Jeffersonians: The Visionary Presidencies of Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe. Welcome to the latest episode of Soul Care for Therapists podcast! In this episode, "Top 3 Mistakes Group Practice Owners Make When Deciding to Hire an Assistant," host Dawn Gabriel interviews Leta Gutzman, a virtual assistant specializing in practice management for private practice owners. Leta shares her insights and expertise on the common mistakes made by practice owners when hiring a virtual assistant and provides valuable tips on how to avoid them. A little about Leta As the founder and CEO alone, Leta has many roles within the company. With a passion for mental health and a drive to help others succeed Leta decided to start a virtual assistant business that grew into a successful business. With skills to run a business starting at 7 years old and Administrative experience starting as young as 14 Leta always knew she wanted to create a business to become successful and help others at the same time. Leta is married to a supportive husband and has 2 beautiful children and resides in sunny South Florida. " I love what I do on a daily basis for my clients, I am very thankful that I can be a part of helping people become mentally healthy" Let's dive in and discover Leta's advice! Mistake #1: Choosing a Virtual Assistant Without Mental Health Experience "One thing that I often see when hiring a virtual assistant is choosing or selecting someone that doesn't have the mental health experience," says Leta. It is crucial to find a virtual assistant who specializes in the mental health field and possesses the necessary skills and compassion to interact with clients effectively. Hiring someone without this expertise can lead to a misrepresentation of your practice and leave clients feeling unsatisfied and out of place. Leta emphasizes the importance of understanding the clients' needs and handling situations with empathy and professionalism. A key behavior for virtual assistants in the mental health world is compassion. Mistake #2: Failing to Shift Your Mindset on Control Hiring a virtual assistant requires a shift in mindset and relinquishing some control over certain aspects of your practice. Leta acknowledges that many practice owners find this prospect daunting. However, she explains that by coaching and guiding practice owners, she helps them see that they are not giving up all control but rather leading the assistant and setting the necessary procedures and expectations. Shifting the mindset from micromanagement to effective delegation allows practice owners to reap the benefits of having a virtual assistant without feeling overwhelmed. Leta bridges the gap by providing training for both virtual assistants and practice owners. She ensures that virtual assistants receive comprehensive training in mental health assistance based on her seven years of experience. Simultaneously, she helps practice owners understand the process of delegating tasks to virtual assistants, empowering them to know what to expect and how to manage the tasks effectively. Leta's ongoing support and group calls for virtual assistants create a supportive community where they can seek guidance and troubleshoot issues, fostering a collaborative environment. Mistake #3: Lack of Familiarity with Tasks Themselves Another common mistake practice owners make when hiring a virtual assistant is not being familiar with the tasks they want to delegate. Practice owners need to know how to complete the tasks themselves, including understanding the procedures, time requirements, and realistic expectations. By having firsthand knowledge of the tasks, practice owners can effectively manage and evaluate the work done by the virtual assistant. It is essential to have a step-by-step method for each task, allowing practice owners to monitor progress and ensure accurate completion. Leta emphasizes that passing over tasks without understanding how to do them oneself can hinder the success of the virtual assistant's role. She advises practice owners to gain proficiency in the tasks they wish to delegate, enabling them to set clear expectations and provide guidance. By having a solid understanding of the tasks, practice owners can effectively train their virtual assistants and ensure that the work is done according. Bonus Tip Leta highlights the significance of aligning your practice's values with those of your virtual assistant. If you run a faith-based practice, it's crucial to find a virtual assistant who understands or shares your faith. While not a requirement, having a virtual assistant who aligns with your practice's values, including faith, can enhance the working relationship and ensure a better understanding of your clients' needs. Leta advises having open discussions and asking relevant questions to determine if the virtual assistant is a good fit for your practice. Thomas Jefferson called the election of 1800 a "revolution," meaning a return to the principles of 1776. For the next twenty-four years, he and his close allies James Madison and James Monroe, would hold the office of President. How well did they do? Did their administrations fulfill the promise of the Revolution? We discuss the Jeffersonians with Kevin Gutzman, gutzman.com/rofessor Kevin Gutzman, historian, Professor of History at Western Connecticut State University, and author of The Jeffersonians: The Visionary Presidencies of Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe.

In which Dr. Gutzman and I discuss his newest book, The Jeffersonians.
Dr. Kevin Gutzman returns to join Paul on the show this week to talk about his most recent book, "The Jeffersonians: The Visionary Presidencies of Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe". Dr. Gutzman always blows us away and makes us want to renroll in college so we can take his courses.
This week, Clay Jenkinson has a conversation with Dr. Kevin Gutzman, Professor of History at Western Connecticut State University and author of The Jeffersonians: The Visionary Presidencies of Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe. Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe held the presidency between 1800 and 1824. These three close friends and Virginia neighbors pursued a common set of public holidays. They managed to extinguish the Federalist Party and by the time Monroe began his second term, a Boston newspaper called it The Era of Good Feelings. Clay and Dr. Gutzman explore the friendship and political collaboration between Jefferson and the greatest of his proteges, James Madison, and the ways in which poor Mr. Madison had to talk Jefferson off the ledge of some of his wilder ideas about America. Support the show by joining the 1776 Club or by donating to the Thomas Jefferson Hour, Inc. You can learn more about Clay's cultural tours and retreats at jeffersonhour.com/tours. Summary: Kevin Gutzman returns to break down the Supreme Court decision on the two vaccine mandates concerning companies with more than 100 employees and health care workers, respectively. While we agree the practice of federal agencies writing any regulations at all constitutes legislating and is therefore unconstitutional, this decision does reintroduce a long-ignored principle that could represent a first step towards a more constitutionally limited federal government. As Independence Day approaches, most everyone looks forward to the celebrations, the parades, the fireworks and time off work. Are we forgetting what it is that we’re actually celebrating each year? Professor Kevin Gutzman joins us to talk about the courageous act of treason that set America on a path to independence and set in motion the most remarkable experiment in freedom in human history.
This week's column, which makes hysterical claims about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, is a combination of baseless assertion and historical ignorance. Joining us for this week's dismantling is special guest and James Madison biographer Kevin Gutzman, professor of history at Western Connecticut State University. Show notes for Ep. 156
Jefferson biographer Kevin Gutzman, who just released a new course on Jefferson for my LibertyClassroom.com, joins me to discuss Jefferson's influences, his early political career, his extraordinary accomplishments even outside politics, and a lot more.

Society and the State | Life, Liberty, and Your Pursuit of Happiness
The story of the U.S. Constitution is one of a gradually expanding federal government that has slowly but surely outgrown the limits on its power. Nowhere is this more clear than in how the Bill of Rights, which originally limited federal power, has been imposed upon the states to make them subservient to the Washington D.C. Kevin Gutzman joins us to discuss how the Incorporation Doctrine has given the feds even greater power over the states and a moral standing that they may not have earned.
Historian Kevin Gutzman joins me to take on a recent article by a conventional conservative in favor of "originalism" in constitutional interpretation. Fair enough, but as with most conservative discussions of the Constitution, it comes down on the centralist, Marshallian side of the key issues -- and then conservatives scratch their heads about what could have gone wrong.
Professor Kevin Gutzman is the New York Times bestselling author of numerous books on American history. He's politically on the right while nevertheless holding much of the "conservative movement" in contempt. His views aren't boilerplate Rush Limbaugh. Therefore, he's part of the Tom Woods Tell-Me-Your-Story project. How does someone -- a historian, no less -- come to adopt views more or less like ours, without getting caught up in the conventional Hillary-or-Mitt spectrum?
Shownotes:Kevin Gutzman is a New York Times best-selling author and professor of history at Western Connecticut State University. He has a PhD from the University of Virginia and much of his research has focused on precisely that state. Three of his books—Virginia’s American Revolution, James Madison and the Making of America, and Thomas Jefferson: Revolutionary—flesh out what Gutzman takes to be a radical, revolutionary time and place in American history. We would be remiss if we did not try to understand the world from above just as we try to understand it from below. Dr. Kevin Gutzman, a History professor at Western Connecticut State University and a prolific author, has turned his attention to Thomas Jefferson and the ideas that the author of the Declaration of Independence spent most of his life developing. Gutzman discusses his recently published book, “Thomas Jefferson – Revolutionary: A Radical’s Struggle to Remake America,” and Jefferson’s continuing influence on American life.
Dr. Kevin Gutzman is a history professor at Western Connecticut State University, a New York Times best-selling author, and one of the leading Constitutional scholars in the country today. He and Jeff talk about his new book, Thomas Jefferson—Revolutionary: A Radical's Struggle to Remake America. Dr. Gutzman discusses some of the overlooked ways Jefferson shaped America, and how his radical views are often underplayed by many academics today. Jefferson’s views on self-governance freedom of conscious, and rejection of centralized control made him perhaps the most libertarian Founding Father — one whose ideas are still relevant today.
