We went on deer walks, watched The Wizard of Oz, made pancakes, and took turns on the mower and backhoe. Aila's birthday dinner which ended with an impromptu dance show by Hattie and a  not-so-subtle take over by almost 2 year old Miles Zach's birthday party had animals- they had the most gorgeous rooster I've ever seen. After looking at machines for years, I finally bought an espresso maker. The girls Im going to Rhinebeck with this year started a Marco Polo group chat. Woke up early before NH Sheep and Wool- so I got a car wash and came with 10 min of vacuuming. I got that done and it felt SO good. Took a little field trip to the Beacon Hill Bookstore on Charles St with my co-workers. To learn more, visit arvadaco.gov/volunteer and sign up for our volunteer email list. The Ralston Central Splash Pad is set to open Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 23. The Splash Pad uses recycled water, like a swimming pool, so the operating hours will not be impacted by the City's drought restrictions. However, the Olde Town Fountain does not use recycled water – it uses treated water – therefore it will only be on during special events this summer, such as the Farmer's Market and Second Saturdays, while Stage 1 restrictions are in place. The second annual Arvada Summerfest is coming up on Saturday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ralston Park Addition, just north of Arvada West High School. This is a community-driven event featuring live music, fundraising, kids activities and more. Like all the City festivals, it's free to attend. Learn more at arvadaco.gov/summerfest. The annual Arvada Kids Fishing Contest is coming up on Saturday, June 13 from 7 to 11 a.m. at Arvada-Blunn Reservoir. The splash pad at Antelope Park will be temporarily open Monday, March 16, through Sunday, March 22, operating daily from Noon to 5 p.m. Town officials said the early opening coincides with warmer weather and local spring break schedules, offering residents and visitors a fun outdoor option while school is out. Kewanee Parks Director Andy Dwyer joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to explain the reasons why motorized or electric scooters, bikes, golf carts, skateboards, and similar devices are banned in Windmont Park; the dog park grand opening on July 3rd; the splash pad update; the wiffle ball league; and the movie in the park on June 27th. A host of changes and new activities are underway in Kewanee parks. The Park District has issued an immediate ban on motorized and electric scooters, bikes, and similar devices at Windmont Park, citing ongoing safety concerns. Only manually powered options are permitted, with pedestrians prioritized on all paths. Meanwhile, anticipation is growing for the Chautauqua Park dog park's grand opening on July 3rd at 10 AM, providing a vibrant social space for dogs and their owners alike. Kewanee Parks District Director Andy Dwyer and intern and University of Illinois baseball player Coltin Quagliano joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about the splash pad, dog park, Northeast Pool, baseball clinic with Coltin, and golf league. The splash pad and dog park are weeks away from completion, depending on the weather. Andy talked about opening the pool in Northeast Park and what is required to open the pool. The temperatures prevented the pool from opening by Memorial Day this year, but the Oasis swimming pool officially opened on Saturday, May 31st. Once the pool opens, staff are needed to maintain the pool and pool house, lifeguards need to be on duty when the pool is open, and supplies are needed to keep the pool water safe. Coltin Quagliano plays baseball for the University of Illinois. Coltin graduated from Wethersfield High School in 2021 and started his college baseball career at Illinois Central College in East Peoria. Coltin is a senior and in his third year playing baseball for the University of Illinois. Coltin is an intern this summer for the Kewanee Park District. He will provide one-on-one instruction in baseball and softball, as well as organize and conduct a two-day baseball clinic over the summer. Coltin has held baseball clinics in Kewanee in past years, but this year he will be hosting the clinic in partnership with the Kewanee Park District. Kewanee Parks Director Andy Dwyer joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to discuss the extension for soccer registration, the splash pad, a dog park at Chautauqua Park, and the lake in Widmont Park. The park district set another record for soccer registration, with 370 kids signed up for summer soccer. Baker Park Golf Course will open for the season on Friday, March 28, 2025. Instead of double crochets, I worked half double crochets instead. 6 rows hdc, followed by 3 rows of (ch1, dc around) in purple. Then I repeated that in pink. I had planned to do the strap half pink and half purple, but when I had Hattie try it on, it was too long (even though I had been accounting for a serious amount of stretch). She said it needed attention regardless because there wasn't any blue in the strap. Noted. Thankfully, I'd anticipated my picky client and brought all three colors with me to the pool. When I returned home, we finished the of the plans and held her funeral mass that Thursday morning. Dan's younger sister Kathy (and her husband Tony) came in from Florida and stayed with us as did my friend Laura (from NYC). We all met up for dinner on Wednesday night with Dan & Matt's aunt who came in from Maine and 2 of her daughters and their families. The services and lunch afterwards were beautiful. Readings and music were all specially chosen and read/performed by people she loved. Its was a beautiful send off. We had a small gathering after at my friend Megg's house. She, Laura and I walked down to the beach just before sunset. On a Happy Note While Laura was in town we went for a late lunch with Kris and Megg at the Salt Society and then Laura, Kris and I got ice cream at Hornstra and Laura and I went on to see No Hard Feelings at the movies. Saturday July 8th we had a big pool party for our friend Trish's birthday. Fun day with all the kiddos before they head off to their various camps. On Sunday, Dan's friends came for a visit and brought us a delicious homemade strawberry rhubarb pie. Monday night we did a double date night with Megg and Tom to The Snug, an Irish pub, for live music to catch up before they head to Ireland for summer visits. Thursday I celebrated 20 years at Mass General with the annual Ether Day Dinner (normally held in October but ours was postponed) where they celebrate staff with milestones in 5 year increments from 20-60 years of service. Cocktail hour with live music followed by a delicious dinner for over 600 people! It was made especially fun because my dear friend Waveney and her husband Atticus were there- and Dan ran into a friend from work whose wife was also celebrating 20 years. On October 16, 1846, the first successful public demonstration of the use of ether for surgical anesthesia was performed, making pain-free surgery possible. Friday pool night. Meagan and Gayle, up from NH, brought resin/acrylic crafts and the fam decorated cutting boards and trays. I missed it but Dan and the others who learned are going to teach me.
