Today's movie is a true story of hope, perseverance, and the power of God to overcome the greatest of tragedies. In many ways, it represents most of us in this room more than we think. The song “I Can Only Imagine” holds the record for the most played radio Christian song of all time and the most purchased song in Christian history. Although it took Bart Millard less than 20 minutes to write and 5 minutes to record, God had been writing this song for a lifetime. This is Bart's story. Let it speak to you. Let it heal you. Let it speak NEW LIFE into you and perhaps place a new song that God's been writing a lifetime into your heart today. This is “I Can Only Imagine.” --- Due to copyright law, we cannot post footage from any films. We can, however, provide all our snippets of Pastor Sean during At the Movies.

Our “Summer Series” continues with passionate and hope-filled film producer Cindy Bond, a pioneer of inspiring faith family films who co-founded Mission Pictures International. Cindy knew the minute she heard MercyMe's beloved, chart-topping song “I Can Only Imagine” that she'd be turning band leader Bart Millard's true life story which charts the difficult relationship between Millard and his abusive father (played by Dennis Quaid) who found God after a cancer diagnosis and became a better man into a major motion picture. Cindy reflects, “I've had a calling on my life to impact the world through media with biblical world view stories. I've had to persevere through my struggles and stay tenacious, stay faithful and hopeful. There are a lot of rocks and bumps along the way, but I know that with any obstacles the world has for me, nothing is impossible with God." Her highly anticipated upcoming film “Redeeming Love,” which was also executive produced by actress Roma Downey, is based on Francine Rivers' best-selling novel set in 1850 during the California Gold Rush and based on the Bible's Book of Hosea. The movie revolves around Angel (played by Abigail Cowen) a prostitute who's endured a difficult life of betrayal and rejection, and Michael Hosea, the man who loves her. , Cindy shares her favorite life scriptures, her love of horses and show jumping competition, and how she chooses daily to live on faith and hope. Cindy shares, “Life is choices. We have to choose to be either above our circumstances, or below them. Life is difficult. I get up every morning and I choose to live over my circumstances, no matter what they are. I'm a hopeful person. I've always lived on hope."

I've prayed for years that my kids would chase after God-sized dreams, so when I saw Sheila Erwin's book on Raising Up Dreamers, I knew she would be perfect for our summer series on Pardon the Mess.   Sheila is the mother of Andrew and Jon Erwin, writers and producers of I Can Only Imagine, I Still Believe, and many other Christian films. Sheila shares with us the importance of recognizing our kids' own unique giftings, then finding ways to help them maximize what God has woven into their design.   I loved her encouragement on working through learning differences in her own son's life and now being able to see how these obstacles have become a gift to his flourishing career. We also have a great discussion around dream killers, and Sheila challenges us to make sure we allow our kids to chase after their own dreams, not ours (ouch).   I love this woman, and I can't wait for you to hear her wise words. Let's make sure we take some time this summer to look for what it is that God has planted in our children and find ways to help them maximize it!   Grab your copy of Raising Up Dreamers!

The Movie for this weeks online movie gathering is "I Can Only Imagine" and David Hoffmeister is making the commentary before and joining with participants after the movie. The theme/feelings people felt the most this week was unworthiness and rejection and this movie has it all. Growing up with an abusive father and an absent mother, the main character has locked his real feeling away in the unconscious, but the Spirit has a plan for bringing healing to the mind for everybody involved in his life. The movie has a deep message about forgiveness and it touched a lot of the participant's hearts.Watching movies is a way of stepping back and remembering that what we see on the screen is not real. Life itself is a big projection. There is a method to watch movies in an enlightened way that leads to observing the events and scenes and scripts of the world—with forgiving eyes. These spiritual movies can be used as a way of expanding consciousness and ultimately experiencing the depth and meaning of the Inner Self. Today on the show we have Simon Swart. Swart has diverse experience in all areas of film production and distribution by virtue of his 30+ years as a leading studio executive at Warner Brothers, The Walt Disney Studios, and most recently 20th Century Fox.  Swart left Fox to focus on producing with his film credits including 6 Below and the most profitable Indie release of 2018 I Can Only Imagine ($83 million box-offices) among others.  He brings with him a variety of global strategic partnerships in multi-window distribution. In addition to launching worldwide franchises, he championed and created new distribution markets as the market shifted to new formats (DVD, digital) and seized the opportunity to create a service organization offering distribution services to competitive smaller studios. This third-party distribution model started with Artisan/Lionsgate and grew to include MGM, Relativity, DreamWorks, and Miramax, generating substantial fees and greater efficiency.Enjoy my conversation with Simon Swart.
