The Confessions That Came Too Late They lived together, they argued over an alarm clock, and fifteen years later, one of them is on trial for murder. Anita Knutson was just 18 years old when she was found dead in her bed in Minot, North Dakota. It was June 3, 2007, and the discovery shocked the quiet college town. Anita, a student at Minot State University, had been stabbed twice in the chest. Her apartment showed no signs of forced entry. No valuables were taken. Just a young woman, murdered in her own home—and no one to answer for it. The case went cold fast. With limited evidence and no arrests, it sat dormant for nearly 15 years, until March 2022. That's when the investigation took a sharp turn, thanks in part to the Oxygen TV show Cold Justice. The show had rolled into town looking for answers—and apparently helped point investigators back to someone who'd been close all along: Anita's roommate, Nichole Rice, who was known then as Nichole Thomas. Rice, now 37, was arrested and charged with Anita's murder. She pleaded not guilty. And now, after all these years, her trial is underway. Opening statements began on March 18, 2025. The prosecution told the jury they would lay out clear evidence that Rice killed her roommate in a rage. They argued that the motive was stunningly petty: an argument over an alarm clock that kept going off. According to prosecutors, it was the last straw in a tense living situation, and Rice snapped. But the defense wasn't buying it—and made sure the jury knew it. Rice's attorney, Rick Sand, pushed back hard. He called the theory ridiculous. “Siblings, roommates, they fight. There's issues about an unplugged fish tank, about an alarm clock that wouldn't stop going off,” he told the court. “People like Nichole don't kill their roommates over that kind of stuff. They don't put knives through their sternums.” Sand's strategy was clear: challenge the evidence, point out the lack of it, and call into question the motives of everyone involved—including the Cold Justice team. He suggested the case only reignited because TV cameras came to town, and that investigators were pressured into making an arrest that didn't hold up. But what's turned heads in this trial isn't just the forensic evidence—it's the confessions. Two different people have now taken the stand to say that Nichole Rice told them, years ago, that she killed Anita. First, Kristina Holler. She was a friend of Rice's who testified on Friday, March 21. According to Holler, Rice confessed during a conversation years ago, saying she and Anita had fought and that she stabbed her. Holler said it was over—you guessed it—an alarm clock. She told police back then, she said. Then came William May. He dated Rice briefly and testified that she made a drunken confession at a party in 2008. They were playing video games, sitting on the couch, and someone brought up Anita's murder. According to May, Rice casually said, “I did it. I killed Anita.” He testified that Rice later claimed she didn't remember saying it. May said he called police the next day to report what she'd said. But that's where the story gets murky. Sand pointed out that there are no records of that call. None. And May didn't speak with police again—at least, not until 2022, after Rice was arrested. That gap in time is a big problem for the defense. But so is the lack of solid forensic evidence. On Thursday, forensic scientist Amy Gebhardt testified about the knife believed to be the murder weapon. DNA was found on it—more than three contributors, actually. And because of that, it's impossible to determine exactly whose DNA is on the blade. So while there's DNA, it's inconclusive. There's no direct physical evidence tying Rice to the crime scene. Just the roommate tension, the alarm clock, and two people who say she confessed. The final witness of the week, Michelle Moore, was a classmate of both women. She testified that Anita and Nichole argued sometimes. But when asked directly if she believed Rice was capable of murder? She said no. So now, we've got a trial hanging in the balance. A case frozen in time, now thawed by the heat of confessions and cold-case cameras. Whether the jury believes those late revelations—or sees them as unreliable memories from long-ago parties—will decide the outcome of a case that's haunted Minot for almost two decades. #AnitaKnutson #NicholeRiceTrial #ColdJusticeEffect #TrueCrime Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? I met Michelle Moore at a Women in Tech & Entrepreneurship networking event in 2023. She shared a story about how she came from Canada and was looking for a group that helped women in tech become more confident in their knowledge. She is a natural storyteller and listeners you won't be disappointed. Tune in to hear her story how she initially wanted to be a spy, why she changed her mind, switched her career path, and embraced cultural diversity. One of her favorite authors, Arwana Hayashi (The Art of a True Move) shared "The body is our primary way of knowing and being in the world. Through the body, we can access deeper levels of awareness and insight. Michelle mentioned Cal Newport's book, Slow Productivity as a reminder to slow down and engage in the world rather than the speed of technology. This is definitely a book I will order. When musing on what 2030 will be like, Michelle dropped a thought bomb on us. There will be a big desire to be device free because of the advancement and pace that technology is moving. There will be a demand for device free experiences. This will impact the job market to free people of the false sense of the dopamine pleasure and mindless scrolling that happens now. We need to be reminded that technology is designed to pull us away from others. In person experiences will be in demand. Michelle's mentoring advice to my listeners is “Learn to listen to your gut; tap into your instincts and intelligence, or your Higher Power. Trust that voice that tells you truth. In this epic episode of "Shadows Unveiled," Mike Gill, the courageous whistleblower who exposed the New Hampshire cabal, joins forces with Speaker Michael K Jaco to reveal a labyrinth of conspiracies, corruption, and covert maneuvers that have shaken the foundations of power. Brace yourselves as the podcast delves into the heart of the Truth Movement, unearthing the Pandora Papers, black hats, and the sinister manipulation orchestrated by the deep state. Gill and the speaker open a Pandora's box of revelations, exposing a $50 million money laundering network intertwining the IRS, Hunter Biden, and the treasury. The negotiation intricacies hint at Trump's strategy, while evidence of corruption involving deep state actors and government agencies is poised to rock the nation. But the story doesn't end there. The speaker takes center stage, claiming a conspiracy involving General Flynn and the deep state, orchestrating events to remove Trump and replace him. Their evidence is compelling, but the FBI's threats loom large, making the exposure of corruption paramount. The intelligence agencies' power to control and manipulate the government is unveiled, and the speaker emerges as a formidable threat with the truth as their weapon. The narrative branches into dark territories, exposing drug trafficking, money laundering, and disturbing practices like child murder and organ harvesting. Conspiracy theories involving Aaron Day, James O'Keefe, Alex Jones, the Mossad, and corruption in Ukraine come to light. The speaker speculates on Flynn and Kennedy's potential election, claiming Biden is negotiating his candidacy. The podcast becomes a rollercoaster of skepticism about religion, concerns about digital currency, and Bill Gates' farmland acquisitions. The division of people based on political beliefs, military conflicts, and the control of the housing market all unfold. The speaker emphasizes self-reliance, urging listeners to trust actions, not words, and verify information independently. The narrative takes a personal turn, touching on legal settlements, confrontations with judges, and a steadfast refusal to back down despite challenges. Loyalty to Trump shines through, with the speaker warning that without him, people will realize they were fooled. Exposing corruption becomes a rallying cry, demanding accountability from Congress, while entrapments and surveillance add layers to the gripping saga. In a heartening twist, the speaker expresses gratitude to Carrie Cassidy and Michelle Moore, pledging loyalty to their shows. Acknowledging Mike's role, they call for widespread sharing of their story and urge listeners to join their cause. The urgency of the situation reverberates, and as the shadows are unveiled, the battle for truth intensifies. Join host Michael Jaco, Ex-Navy Seal, who teaches you how to tap into your Intuition and Unleash the Power within, so you can become the Master of your Reality. In 2013, in an attempt to become more successful in her business, Michelle discovered the world of personal development. In 2022, U.S. Bank processed $46 billion in freight payments for some of the world's largest corporations and government agencies. Those payments and the data that accompanies them are analyzed quarterly by Bobby Holland, U.S. Bank Vice President and Director of Freight Data Solutions, and his team. The FPI report includes quarter-over-quarter, year-over-year, and full-year data and analysis.Bobby opened the conversation by sharing his five key takeaways from the first quarter of 2023: the trucking market continues to be soft, quarterly and yearly metrics for shipments and spend both dropped for the first time in three years, the Southwest outperformed while the Midwest continued to struggle, and the Southeast saw an 8 percent increase in yearly spend despite 16 percent fewer shipments. In this interview, Bobby was joined by Michelle Moore, Head of Supply Chain at GAF, to share and discuss the results of the Q1 2023 report with co-hosts Scott Luton and Greg White:• Why national shipment volume being lower than spend indicates there is a capacity issue• Signals that the drop in activity in Q1 2023 is more significant than the regular seasonal reduction U.S. Bank would expect• How a decline in manufacturing activity is impacting capacity at the regional levelAdditional Links & Resources:Learn more about Supply Chain Now: https://supplychainnow.comCheck out our new Supply Chain Now Media Kit: https://bit.ly/3emdLcKSubscribe to Supply Chain Now and all other Supply Chain Now programs: https://supplychainnow.com/subscribeJoin the NOW Community: http://bit.ly/41kpUSOLeveraging Logistics and Supply Chain for Ukraine: https://vectorgl.com/stand-with-ukraine/2023 Q1 U.S. Bank Freight Payment Index: https://freight.usbank.comWEBINAR- How Collaboration, Tail Spend Management, and VMI Can Improve Up and Downstream Communications: https://bit.ly/41jsl85WEBINAR- “Decoding Digital Transformation” – Charting a path forward: https://bit.ly/3VvVc6VThis episode is hosted by Scott Luton and Greg White.
