In the western world, we live in a culture that is deeply rooted with our five natural elements. The earth element is one of these and it has been present for all of human history. We stand on the ground which provides us with stability and support. We create structures out of concrete, brick or wood to protect ourselves from the weather outside while also providing us shelter and comfort inside. In essence, this episode will explore how the earth element shows up in our lives, and ways we can increase it. Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. The four elements have been a part of human understanding for centuries. And we use every single one of them every day of our lives. Just this morning, I’ve stood on earth, breathed in air, benefitted from the warmth of fire, and hydrated with water. The Ancient Greeks believed all things came from one of the four elements, and that they were eternal and unchanging. The Sumerians, the Maya, the Babylonians, and many other cultures and religions believed the same. You are made up of these elements, and they surround you. But what happens if they’re out of balance? When they get out of balance in the world at large, we see Mass Extinction Events, sudden and dramatic events that caused the death of many different species at one point in time. Looking through the history of these, they are all related to one of the elements getting out of sync with the others. Destructive fires. Deluges and floods (mentioned some 500 times in historical texts!). Earthquakes. Asteroid collisions. It's not a secret that ancient civilizations worshipped the elements and gods that represented them. After all, if these elements were what could kill you, why would you not?! People also realised that we are made up of these four elements, and the more we incorporate all four into our own lives, the better we will feel. We’ve now got out of touch with the elements, and that’s why my podcast today is all about their history. Do you worry that being grateful for what you have NOW is complacency? I used to… I mean, it makes some logical sense, right? I say ‘thank you’ for, say, 1lb of weight release. My subconscious / the Universe thinks, “Oh right, you’re happy with a 1lb?” I never lose more than 1lb. But that’s simply NOT TRUE. My experience is more like this… “Wow, subconscious, universe, body, thank you for the 1lb of weight release. You RAAAAAWK!!” “Yay, so glad you’re pleased! Now we know how much you like weigh release, we’ll give you more!” “Gee, 2lb released this week!? Thanks so much! You’re wishing and hoping in the WRONG DIRECTION. “I hope I pass the exam!” “I wish I could visit Aruba!” “I hope I become a millionaire!” “I wish… I hope… I wish!” Hoping for something entails DOUBT. If I HOPE for a certain outcome, I’m acknowledging that an alternative is possible. “I hope I pass the exam” is NOT the same as “I will pass the exam!” The hoping implies there’s a possibility of not passing. The energy we put out when we hope for something is DOUBTFUL. You’re not telling the Universe what you want to happen, love, if you’re giving the option of not passing that exam! I now commit to the “I will pass this exam” comment… But I know this might be hard for you, love - it was a leap for me to get to the point of disallowing doubt! So in today’s podcast episode, I talk about the FIRST STEP to moving away from hope to reality! That is being grateful for what you currently have. That was the first secret, for me, to stopping the doubt that pervaded my thoughts. If I could become grateful, I was telling the universe what I wanted more of. I was indirectly informing the universe of what I knew (based on previous experience) could happen. Gratitude over hope. You will not regret it.
What are you putting off - and why? I HATED phone calls… I’m still not someone who is on the phone regularly. I would procrastinate about every call I had to make. Or I would delegate it to someone else. Having to handle accounting queries at work did MAKE me confront the fear of phones. I was being called multiple times a day. It was only by analysing the stories in my life that I saw where this fear of the phone came from. My dad was an incredibly hard working vet. In the early years of my life, he was on call most nights. I came to associate the phone ringing with him and my mum having to leave for a veterinary emergency. Dinners interrupted. Film nights cut short. Board games folded away early. I associated the phone with an end to ‘playtime’. BOOM! There was the reason I didn’t like the phone. There was the reason I put off phone calls. Only by acknowledging this story was I able to see how unhelpful it was to me. My reptilian brain isn’t my best friend. It’s not yours either. Unless you’re being chased by a leopard, in which case it’s gonna save your life. The most primal part of the brain is designed for 4 vital functions… feeding, fleeing, fighting, and… reproduction! It has always been vital to our survival (it’s also fundamental for things like breathing and heart rate), BUT…⠀ ⠀ The reptilian brain is not as useful in everyday situations as it was thousands of years ago. ⠀ ⠀ Just imagine: you’re a scantily clad early human. ⠀ You’re part of a tribe, made up of multiple ‘families’.⠀ In terms of protection, you have rudimentary weapons - and, most importantly, the protection of your fellow tribe members.⠀ ⠀ The primal brain would ensure that you emerged unscathed from hunting for food. ⠀ It would ensure that you remained part of your tribe (since separation from them could spell death). ⠀ ⠀ It was essentially a DEATH warrant, if the primal brain didn’t kick in when it needed to. ⠀ ⠀ But now, what’s your wild boar hunt threat equivalent, love?⠀ Sitting at a boardroom table, arguing with your boss?! Putting off opening that email from your mother?! ARE YOU MAKING YOUR JOURNEY CHOPPIER THAN IT NEEDS TO BE? I was ADDICTED to the struggle of swimming against my intuition. I lived on ‘shoulds’ - always based on what I believed that others wanted for/from me. Then I’d MOAN… “Oh, poor me, life is so HARD.” “Why do others have it easier than me?” “The world hates me.” Are any of those feelings familiar, love? They began to feel comfortable for me… They were what I used as an excuse to keep FIGHTING against listening to my INNER VOICE. Don’t get me wrong, even now, life can feel choppy! And it’s then that I have to ask myself two super important questions… Am I making this journey choppy? Do I NEED this choppiness for my growth? You see, the Universe sends us obstacles and difficulties to overcome so that we GROW. Life is not about avoiding choppiness entirely. Life is about recognising WHO / WHAT is causing that choppiness… If it’s your ego, then all you’re achieving is yet more pain / annoyance. HOW IS YOUR FLOW? YOUR ALIGNMENT? And I’m not talking yoga here…. When I feel in flow, I am floating along the river of the universe, trusting I am where I am supposed to be. When I stray out of this alignment, I feel like I’m FIGHTING against everything. Life feels difficult. I know that when I am out of alignment, I’m letting my EGO row the boat… That’s ALWAYS a bad idea, since my ego wants to push against the tide. It looks at what OTHERS think is right for me… It holds me back from being in the flow of doing what I want to do. When I choose to be in flow, life feels EASY. I feel like I am seeing progress. If our growth is summed up by experiences, imagine how far you travel when in flow… Versus swimming AGAINST the current. The only experience in a state of resistance is one of not getting anywhere. Ayni, ubuntu and karma are not just about helping others - they’re about your SELF-LOVE too… Mind-blowing, right? Hear me out… When I go for a run, or a cycle, or do one of my MMA workouts, there are two words I use. “Thank you.” And I say them to my body…
Ayni… Ubuntu… Karma… They’re all more or less the same thing, with the same route: The Law of Reciprocity. Whatever joy / help / love I give to others, I will receive gifts that I need (not always what I WANT, ha!) in return. Everything is connected by ENERGY - I am connected to you, and we are all connected to the world’s community, the Earth herself, and all the dimensions beyond this one… It is a privilege that we get to support each other, and ourselves through the law of reciprocity. Individual acts of giving literally change the world’s energy, in a butterfly effect. Karma is a beautiful thing - and should be a way of life for all of us. I talk more about this in the podcast episode today because it’s really important in my own life. Every action that I perform in this world can be one that embraces the concept of ayni. I KEPT MYSELF FEELING STUCK BY USING REALLLLLY UNHELPFUL LANGUAGE! I know we’ve all heard the stuff about ‘self talk’ - and, if you’re anything like me, love, you probably shrug your shoulders.. Like that could help you, right? Wrong. You see, I was always using language that kept me POWERLESS. “I don’t have enough [time / money / knowledge / strength / understanding / etc / etc / etc]” “I’m not the right person for this.” “I’ll never succeed at reaching my [goal weight / ideal salary / vision board ambitions / etc / etc / etc]” Even when I write podcast notes and Instagram posts, I can go to one of those “not enough” type thoughts. “Maybe they don’t want to hear from me.” “There’ll be other people out there to voice this more eloquently than ME.” But now I know that language is what HOLDS ME BACK. I am, literally, telling the Universe that my focus is on failure / no success / not being able to get anywhere I’m NOT a victim of my circumstances, and nor are you. Once we realise this, we can stop feeling ‘STUCK’. I’VE STRUGGLED A LOT WITH BEING AN EMPATH WITH BOUNDARIES! I’ve even been told by others that my boundaries mean I’m NOT an empath. What rubbish!! Just because you are an empath, love, it doesn’t mean that you have to condone everything others do. You get to have BOUNDARIES! You get to say, “I love you, but that’s not an acceptable behaviour.” I’ve done this with a few people recently. It feels GOOD. If someone doesn’t wish to turn up as their best self, that’s on THEM… But I don’t have to put up with it. I get to be an empath AND value myself. HOW TO UNDERSTAND THE CAPITOL RIOTERS’ ACTIONS, WHILST CONDEMNING THEM. I’ve found it hard to reconcile my feelings about the insurrection at The Capitol. I see each and every one of those rioters as gaslit, misled by a desperate man out of his depth. When any of us are lied to, we become VICTIMS of those lies. If we act heinously on those lies, do we remain victims? This was the question I kept asking myself. I believe that the rioters were victims of Trump’s hate speech and lies… HOWEVER… The violent acts they committed - the theft, the bloodshed, the murder, those cannot be condoned. We each have FREE WILL. Whilst we can be manipulated to believe lies, we still get to CHOOSE our reactions. Those rioters may have believed VP Pence could overturn Biden becoming president (he couldn’t)… They may have believed in the ‘election fraud’ (of which there’s no evidence)… Those things would understandably piss them off. But they chose to take their anger and turn it into violence. I have to remind myself that being an empath is about understanding, not condoning. I understand why those rioters felt the need to commit violent acts. But I DO NOT condone it. I get to understand people, but also have boundaries around acceptable behaviour. December is an important time. Many religions have December festivals of some kind, but I think even if you're not religious or your religion isn't one that is celebrating in December, it’s a month when we all tend to come together. 2020 has obviously thrown a curveball in terms of celebrations this year, but that doesn’t detract from this time of year. The trees are still up, the menorahs still lit, only this year’s reminder feels like one of reflection, rather than fun. None of this means that the holidays feel any less stressful, though – we still care about showing up in the right way for relatives. This year, arguably, it’s more stressful than ever, having to make decisions about who we see and how we protect them. And that’s on top of the usual Christmas stresses. I’m resharing last year's holiday episode because the content is still relevant, even in the midst of a global pandemic. Just because we’ve all realised how we usually take spending time with others for granted, it doesn’t mean that the holidays will be a walk in the park. Holidays stress is a real thing, every year. ONE POTATO, TWO POTATO, THREE POTATO, FOUR. I SAT COUNTING THE CALORIES IN MY HEAD. I didn’t notice the pretty table centres, the scent of pine needles on the air, or the crackling of the log fire. All I noticed was what was on my plate. That’s how previous Christmas meals have often looked for me. I was judging myself from the second I sat down to eat, intensely focussed on each roast potato, every carrot, every bite of turkey. I SHAMED WOMEN IN THE BODY POSITIVITY MOVEMENT. This is my most confessional / vulnerable / emotional blog and pod yet! I wasn’t one of those people who trolled their threads, love. My opinions were in my own head. But I was still a BODY SHAMER. I didn’t understand what body positivity was. I believed that women involved in the movement were condoning the extremes of obesity and anorexia. I thought it was promotion of the most unhealthy type. Then I realised that these women weren’t judging their WEIGHT. To them, they were appreciative of their bodies, accepting themselves whatever the number of the scale. They were showing that a body was about a LOT more than just weight. In my own weight release journey, I’ve come to realise that without body positivity, I simply don’t release weight. If someone was bullying me, then asked for a favour, I’d tell them to eff off. I was doing that by asking my body to release weight, while berating her for being too big / ugly etc. Hit up the link in my bio to understand more about the journey I’ve been on with accepting my body. If you get upset when someone rejects your help / advice, you need to listen! You are CHOOSING to get upset, love. You are CHOOSING to feel frustrated. You are CHOOSING to give meaning to someone else’s opinion. Nothing means anything except the meaning you give to it. And I do all of those things too, but now I see that there are ways to avoid the PAIN. I was letting myself feel discomfort when my advice didn’t HIT HOME… Then I realised two important things: We are all on a different journey - some of us take longer than others to be ready to accept advice… I have ZERO CONTROL over how others receive the GIFT of my advice.. I KNOW my stuff. I have faith in myself to help others. I am AWESOME at coaching others, if they’re ready and willing to accept the help. The GIFT of my help - bc that’s exactly what it is. I have a gift from the universe - to be able to assimilate all my experience and knowledge with my strong intuition and empathy. That gift is one I pass on to others. It’s not my job to judge how the gift is received. My purpose is simply to put the information out into the world. I share it, not knowing who will receive it, or how. I get stuck in not trusting myself and the universe. When I don’t trust, I not only feel bad, I also feel STUCK. I can SEE that, and yet I still struggle with self-trust. If You Die Tomorrow, Will You Have Regrets? So it’s a macabre question, I know, but will you? I’m pretty sure your answer will be “yes”. Mine was too, love. You see, we get so busy with LIVING that we let ourselves FORGET that we’re dying. And what happens then? We stop prioritising things - we let our lives fill with busy-ness that doesn’t serve us. Think about terminally ill people who compile a bucket list. The only reason they NEED a bucket list is because they didn’t remember they were dying, until someone told them. If they had remembered they were dying every day of their lives, they’d have had no regrets. There would be no bucket list because they’d have fulfilled all those dreams and wishes. I know it’s SCARY to look death in the face. But it is the greatest TEACHER we could ever ask for. The guillotine is falling as soon as we’re CONCEIVED, before we’re even born. And yet we refuse to talk about death, like we’re somehow going to outrun it by doing so. When my mother-in-law was terminal, no one would talk with her about her death, her funeral. Except me. I was seen as macabre for this, but it was important to her - and me. I’ve seen many people close to me die around 70. Yes, that’s ‘too young’. But it’s made me realise that we never know when will be our last day. So now what am I doing? I’m trying to make every day count. I am dying, and so are you. It’s time to realise that death is what makes life worth living to the max. NO ONE EVER PICKED UP A DRINK THINKING “I’M GOING TO GET ADDICTED TO THIS.” We don’t always make our decisions about our habits consciously. The ones that end up not serving us are, indeed, the most unlikely to been stepped into knowingly. Maybe you took a drink to steel your nerves for a first date, love? Or found that you were ‘lucky’ when you won a bet? Perhaps you were feeling lonely in your relationship, and porn filled the intimacy gap? The problem is that EVERY HABIT is on a SEESAW. It starts out serving you - you’re less shy; you feel lucky; you don’t feel so lonely, etc. Gradually you move towards the seesaw’s pivot point, and that’s where the trouble starts. After the pivot, comes the ‘downhill’. The habit has become UNSERVING. The drinks mean you’re at work with a hangover. The bets mean you’re scared to look at your bank account. The porn means you feel constant shame. YOU DIDN’T KNOW THAT WOULD HAPPEN. People say BS like “Oh alcohol is always a slippery slope - (s)he must’ve known that.” Why MUST you have known that, love? Especially for yourself… You see, our habits can be MANIPULATIVE - they make us believe that we’ll be in the vast majority of the world… That vast majority that don’t let drinking, gambling, porn become unserving to them. NEVER BEAT YOURSELF UP FOR THE 1ST OR 101ST TIME YOU PICKED UP. YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE PAST. But you CAN change the future. In today’s pod, I’m talking all sorts of habits - not just addiction. I believe in you, love.
Have you ever started tracking something, then stopped? Why? I’m pretty sure your answer will be something to do with it not offering you enough information. You might say you got bored, or you forgot, but would you have felt that way, if the data you were getting from it was useful? I started – and stopped – tracking many things, many times until I found a five-step process. I have not stopped tracking anything, except when I’ve hit a goal, since I came up with this method. I WAS CONVINCED I WAS A WEIGHT LOSS SCIENTIFIC ANOMALY. I wasn’t. And you’re probably not either, love: you’re just UNIQUE. How often do people tell you to do this to release weight, or do that, or do the other? How often have you see things touting GUARANTEES?! Yup, a lot, right?! And nothing’s working for you either, love? Well. Here’s what worked for me. TRACKING. It sounds boring, doesn’t it? Calories in. Calories out. Weight. Full disclosure: I also track my macros and hours in keto (through intermittent fasting). You learn what to track - calories in vs calories out didn’t work for me, so then I started tracking macros (carbs, protein, fat). That was the breakthrough for me. Every habit is a SCIENCE. Figure out what makes it better, and do more of that. HELLO, I’M KELLER AND I’M AN ALTER EGO… ⠀ I’ve worked for a long time at manifesting material things into my life - cars, houses, investment value increases, and so on…⠀ BUT I’ve never really worked on manifesting an IDENTITY that fits with how I want my life to look. YOU NEED AN ALTER EGO - here's why! Do you remember as a kid you aspired to be the popstar of the moment? The way we'd copy exactly what they did. Alter egos in adult life are kinda similar. You see, if you don't have what you want already, love, you're not going to get it unless you start thinking about your identity. For example, if you see yourself as "overweight person" (this is a biggie, pun intended, for me), you can't be normal weight. Your identity matters. It's how you see yourself, and what you believe - in your subconscious - that you're capable of. How many people do you know who flip between overweight and slim? I know plenty - myself included. Why do you think they can't keep up the weight loss? It's all about their identity. They have the "fat person" belief. The people who release weight and keep it off? They've changed their internal identity. They now believe in themselves as "slim person". Changing your identity is HARD. That's why I'm sharing a little technique to help you on your way: the alter ego. It's amazing how you can look at the traits that are aligned with what you want and turn the volume up on them. Then you'll instantly start attracting everything you want in life... Sustained weight... Consistent bank account... Growing abundance... Stable relationships... AND MORE! I TRIPLED MY PODCAST DOWNLOADS IN 2 MONTHS… Here’s how you can win your dreams too! My manifestation game is strong. The universe is always on my side. So I was kinda surprised at the long-standing nature of one of my manifestation desires. The desire is to hit 1m podcast downloads - and, no, I’m not there yet… but the months after committing to this didn’t show much growth AT ALL. MY BRAIN IS NOT AS RELIABLE AS I’D LIKE TO THINK I pretty much trusted my brain for YEARS. I believed everything it told me. That was a terrible idea. I had a Stockholm Syndrome type relationship with my brain. It had caught me so hard that I no longer believed it was anything other than my friend. It was not my friend. You know why? Because *I* was not my friend. I was not my friend. And I was saying things in passing, wondering maybe whether saying the labels aloud made them fit… “I’m stupid…” “I’m ugly…” “I’m too fat…” I was just trying them for size the first few times, but my brain was LISTENING. And that’s how those awful labels ended up in my subconscious. Lying in wait to trip me up frequently. As @igntd.me ’s #OnceAnAddict campaign is proving: these labels can alter our lives. Someone who labels themselves an “addict” is WAY more than that, even if they don’t see it. But what label do they carry with them? The stigma of the ‘addict’ label… These negative and judgmental labels are not good for us. My latest episode has a FIVE STEP PROCESS to shake up your brain! I LABELLED MYSELF AS "FAT AND UGLY". Do you know what happens when you put a label like that on yourself? You believe it. Your brain doesn’t analyse the stuff you’re telling it - it just accepts it. Then what happens when you’re next making a decision? Your brain jumps to a conclusion for you, based on all those labels you hold within your identity. Me: “Hmmm, do I want another cake?” Subconscious: “I’m fat” Decision: “Might as well, I’m fat already” Me: “Should I go live on Instagram?” Subconscious: “I’m ugly” Decision: “No way, I’m not cute enough for that!” Me: “Should I start coaching others?” Subconscious: “I’m not good enough” Decision: “Nope - you’re not good enough.” We let ourselves live our lives by these subconscious beliefs and labels that sit in the depths of our being. Things from years ago are dictating everything you do. But we can drop the labels - that’s what’s so exciting!! IT’S NOT EASY TO TRUST THE UNIVERSE. (Or God, Source, Quantum Field, or who/whatever you see as the Creator). We live in such a noisy, chaotic world that it feels like we have to be constantly in control. I used to feel that if I left anything up to the Universe, it may not happen as I wanted it to. So I CLUNG to what I thought I could control, dismissing the Universe’s role as unhelpful. And then I got outcomes I didn’t want. And - get this! - I blamed the Universe, despite having dismissed it thinking I knew better!
