Scotland rugby captain Jamie Ritchie say his side "can beat any team" after they thrashed Wales 35-7 at Murrayfield to continue their perfect start to the Six Nations. And Ireland ended France's 14-match winning run with a gripping 32-19 victory over the tournament favourites yesterday. BBC rugby correspondent Chris Jones spoke to Morning Report.
Today's episode is all about the Six Nations captains. Ugo Monye and Chris Jones chat to Johnny Sexton, Owen Farrell, Ken Owens, Michele Lamaro, Jamie Ritchie and Antoine Dupont. They find out what's the best thing about being a captain, the downsides, which reality TV show they'd most like to try, best and worst roommates and we ask which other sport they would love to captain.
On this year's Christmas Special and final episode of 2022, hosts Caroline Blair and Chris Paterson are joined by Scotland Captain's Jamie Ritchie, and Rachel Malcolm to reflect on the past year. They discuss how they spend Christmas, their favourite things about this time of year as well as their milestone moments of 2022.
Like any other alternative investment, buying wine can provide one's portfolio with an excellent source of diversification. Stocks and bonds go through familiar cycles of boom and bust, but collectables like fine wine deliver investment returns with little to no correlation to traditional assets and they may even be negatively correlated with the stock market. Wine also offers a unique source of diversification because its value is based on factors that have little relation to the performance of the economy, interest rates, corporate earnings or conventional investor sentiment. Jamie Ritchie, Global Chairman, Sotheby's Wine shares more. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Scotland and Edinburgh backrower Jamie Ritchie joins us on this week's podcast to chat about his rehab and look ahead to a big game for Edinburgh against Ulster this weekend. Chris Paterson is also joined by Dr James Robson and Professor Craig Ritchie, who tell us all about the new Brain Health Clinic at BT Murrayfield, which has been launched this week.
Wales' first of three home Six Nations games sees them having to take on a Scottish side oozing confidence after back to back Calcutta Cup victories over England. Wales are not the Championship winning side of 2021 and in many ways are a mere shadow of it. Their current form is more likely to put them in in danger of going head to head with Italy this year for the Wooden Spoon. However, playing in front of a sold out Principality Stadium crowd will be a powerful tonic for the Men in Red and as a result to write them off would be beyond foolish. Scotland will know that and come prepared. There weren't too many positives last weekend for Welsh Coach Wayne Pivac's men, but their cause hasn't been helped by their ongoing injury crisis, and an opener against a red hot Ireland was never going to be a simple task. We can't help feeling that Wales can't get any worse than they were in Dublin and as the tournament wears on, especially now they only have one more away game left, their fortunes should improve. Scotland will breeze into Cardiff knowing that they almost ruined Wales' party last year, and on the basis of that controlled win over England last Saturday, they seem more than comfortable with handling big pressure moments. It also should be borne in mind that their track record away from Murrayfield in last year's Six Nations was rather impressive as they won both of their away games against England and France no less. Barring the loss of back rower Jamie Ritchie due to injury for this match and sadly the rest of the tournament, Scotland look in rather rude health and more than up for the challenge that awaits them. There is little doubt that they are the form team of the two heading into this match, and that their Welsh opponents have it all to prove.
This week we're joined by Scotland's half-back pairing, Ali Price and Blair Kinghorn to look ahead to the match against Tonga at BT Murrayfield on Saturday afternoon. Price tells Chris Paterson and Rachel Malcolm how much of an honour it is to have been asked to co-captain the side with Jamie Ritchie, while Kinghorn talks about how much he is looking forward to playing in front of fans again. Chris and Rachel also go through both team selections, ahead of Scotland's opening Autumn Nations Series match.
Jamie Ritchie will captain Scotland this summer with games against England A, Romania and Georgia on the horizon and the backrower joins us on this week's podcast to look ahead to a busy schedule of games. Former Edinburgh lock, Steve Turnbull also joins us to talk about the 2021 Scottish Rugby Community Awards, in his role as Regional Director for Caledonia Midland.
In the first of our new series on “Collecting and Investing,” Elin McCoy, our US editor, talks to Jamie Ritchie, Worldwide Head of Wine for Sotheby's.
We're back to review Scotland's historic Calcutta Cup win with Ryan Wilson and the nonplussed Dylan Hartley. We discuss England's form and whether Billy Vunipola is fit for purpose or just not fit. With more people looking at rare whiskies as investments, more of the world's top auction houses are adding spirits experts to their in-house wine teams. That was just one of the moves Sotheby's made over the last two years after whiskies and other spirits started making up a larger share of bidding at its wine auctions around the world. Now, Sotheby's holds separate whisky auctions in London, New York, and Hong Kong - with three auctions last month combining for more than $4.6 million in bids. Jamie Ritchie heads up the Sotheby's wine and spirits team, and joins us on this week's WhiskyCast In-Depth. In the news, whisky makers around the UK and Europe are just as nervous about New Year's Eve as their American counterparts, since the arrival of 2021 means the final split between Great Britain and the European Union. As of now, there's no trade deal between the two sides once the final Brexit split happens, and that could lead to all kinds of issues for whisky makers. We'll have that story, along with a new report on what's been a history-making decade for the Irish Whiskey industry, the week's new whiskies, and December's Whisky Club of the Month.
