We are wrapping up the year by picking our best things released in the last 12 months. Join us as we review our favourite books, movies, TV shows, albums, and a few other favorites of 2023! I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha & Indy Randhawa   Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar is a 2023 American direct-to-video adult animated film based on the Adult Swim animated series Metalocalypse. The film is directed by series creators Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha and is a direct sequel to the 2013 special, Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem. The film was released on August 22, 2023, alongside Dethklok's fourth studio album, Dethalbum IV.[1][2] The film was dedicated to longtime series director, Jon Schnepp, who died in 2018 before production began.   Michael is the sixth studio album by American rapper Killer Mike, released through VLNS and Loma Vista Recordings on June 16, 2023. It marks Killer Mike's first solo studio record in 11 years, following 2012's R.A.P. Music, and includes collaborations with CeeLo Green, Mozzy, Young Thug, 6lack, Eryn Allen Kane, Jagged Edge, André 3000, Future, Currensy, 2 Chainz, Kaash Paige, Blxst, Fabo, El-P and Ty Dolla Sign.   Aysanabee is an Oji-Cree singer-songwriter from Canada, whose debut album Watin was released in 2022. A member of the Sandy Lake First Nation, he was born Evan Pang, with a non-inherited surname his mother chose in an attempt to protect him from anti-indigenous racism by portraying him to the community as Asian instead of indigenous, and raised in Kaministiquia, Ontario, outside of Thunder Bay. He reclaimed his grandfather's surname, Aysanabee, as an adult.   The Woman in Me is a memoir by American singer Britney Spears. It was published on October 24, 2023, by Gallery Books, a division of Simon & Schuster. The book is 288 pages long and was released in 26 languages. The Woman in Me received praise from critics. Within a week of its release in the United States, the book became a #1 New York Times best-seller, selling 1.1 million copies in all formats.  Barbie is a 2023 fantasy comedy film directed by Greta Gerwig from a screenplay she wrote with Noah Baumbach. Based on the eponymous fashion dolls by Mattel, it is the first live-action Barbie film after numerous computer-animated films and specials. The film stars Margot Robbie as the title character and Ryan Gosling as Ken, and follows the pair on a journey of self-discovery following an existential crisis. The supporting cast includes America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, and Will Ferrell. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a 2023 American animated superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Miles Morales / Spider-Man, produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. It is the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), set in a shared multiverse of alternate universes called the Spider-Verse. Shameik Moore voices Miles, starring alongside Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, and Oscar Isaac. In the film, Miles goes on an adventure with Gwen Stacy / Spider-Woman across the multiverse where he meets a team of Spider-People known as the Spider-Society, led by Miguel O'Hara / Spider-Man 2099, but comes into conflict with them over handling a new threat in the form of the Spot.   Grey's Anatomy is an American medical drama television series focusing on the personal and professional lives of surgical interns, residents, and attendings at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital. The series premiered on March 27, 2005, on ABC as a mid-season replacement. The show's title is an allusion to Gray's Anatomy, a classic human anatomy textbook. Writer Shonda Rhimes developed the pilot and served as showrunner, head writer, and executive producer until stepping down in 2015.

Digging for Kryptonite: A Superman Fan Journey

Host Anthony Desiato digs into the infamous unmade SUPERMAN LIVES movie with guest V Ken Marion. Originally intended to be released in 1998, Warner Bros. ultimately cancelled the film shortly before the start of production—and following a lengthy development process, which saw an earlier screenplay by CLERKS' Kevin Smith, the controversial attachment of director Tim Burton and Nicolas Cage, and a story that would have seen Superman die at the hands of Doomsday before returning to life. In the episode, Anthony and Ken share the results of their extensive homework, including the documentary THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN LIVES: WHAT HAPPENED? by the late filmmaker Jon Schnepp, as well as audio dramas of two unused screenplays brought to life by Neuverse Creative. Digging for Kryptonite is a Flat Squirrel Production. Key art by Gregg Schigiel and theme music by Basic Printer. Happy Monday! Today I'm talking thoughts and theories on WandaVision's sixth episode, and there is a LOT to cover! From Pietro to Monica's "contact," the episode is fully discussed here.  Afterwards, I talk about Zack Snyder's Justice League, which had its "first" trailer yesterday, which in turn made it even more relevant to talk about the ongoing scandals surrounding writer/director Joss Whedon, who took over the original Justice League project after Snyder stepped away.  Plus, in preemption to Batman/Catwoman #3 (of 12) tomorrow, I walk through Tom King's love story for the two DC characters, explaining the history as he's laid it out, how it relates to what's happening in the current series, and breaking down my thoughts and theories on the series so far. Finally, a note of explanation on the term "sweaty" and it's originator, Jon Schnepp, and some brief discussion on what I'm looking forward to in new comics this week. There's always a lot to talk about in this industry, so hour-long episodes might become the new norm...

Nineteen years. That's how long it took for Superman to triumphantly come back to theaters. Yet just as quickly as he flew onto the screen, he was gone faster than a speeding bullet—a victim of low receipts and a distinct lack of enthusiasm for this movie's ponderous take on the "Big Blue Boy Scout."  Though decently reviewed—75% on Rotten Tomatoes with a Metascore of 72—and laden with talent (a portion of it admittedly troubled, even if we didn't quite know it at the time), Superman Returns was not the home run the studio had hoped. It barely broke even. With a final production cost of $223 million, another $100 million in marketing, and the ugly baggage of the aborted development of Superman Lives, its $391 million dollars in worldwide gross just didn't cut it. Money aside, this is not a poor film. Far from it, in fact. And it truly gets Superman, delivering quintessential moments of heroism that define what type of character he is. In typing that, I still must acknowledge that it wasn't enough. The plodding pace of Returns turned some viewers off. The distinct lack of action—a far cry from what was to come—failed to ignite the fervor some would expect after the character's long hiatus. Thus, it has the dubious distinction of again killing the franchise. While Batman flourished in the Dark Knight Trilogy, Superman floundered. He'd be sidelined for another seven, brutal years. And when he finally showed his face, he'd again been repackaged. That, unfortunately, is this movie's legacy. What began with hope and optimism—a promised revival of all we'd loved about Richard Donnor's version—ended with disappointment. The studio was unwilling to give this incarnation another opportunity. I will always lament that. But, hey, we're here to have a good time; so sit back, grab a Stone Brewing's Enjoy by July 4th, 2019 Unfiltered IPA, prepare to leap a tall building in a single bound, and enjoy, as I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Capt. CARL KING is a true polymath: someone who’s professionally good at many things. He’s a screenwriter, published book author, composer, engineer, director, producer, & more. Carl has worked with numerous legends in the progressive music and geek culture scenes, including Dweezil Zappa, Steve Vai, Kevin Smith, the late Jon Schnepp, Brendon Small, and many others. And among his massive credits list, Carl created our theme music! So since Carl’s work (with drums by Mike Stone!) is the FIRST thing you hear on this podcast, I thought it made sense to have him on as my LAST regular guest on the show, too. Wait - last show, you say? What!? More details in the show. Enjoy!  BLOG & LINKS: https://www.crazyinagoodway.com/home/carl-king

This week's debate: IS EXPLOITATION HURTING NERD CULTURE? It's with a heavy heart that I write this, but as many of you know, amazing and legendary Jon Schnepp passed away last week, as announced during the San Diego Comic-Con 2018. I was proud to call Jon a good friend of mine, and we were going to be exhibiting at Comic-Con this year like we did last year. Things took an unexpected and devastating turn, and his amazing, kind and talented fiance Holly has set up a GoFundMe for hospital expenses: Get Well Jon Schnepp (https://www.gofundme.com/getwelljonschneppfundraiser). I was fortunate enough to spend considerable time with Jon every day at Comic-Con last year, when we really got to know each other. He's helped me in so many ways and he's an all-around amazing dude. His kindness, talent and friendship was renowned. Many of you know him from his work as director of Metalocalypse, The Death of "Superman Lives, The ABCs of Death," as well as Venture Brothers, and the new Slayer comic. All who were fortunate enough knew Jon as a friend consider themselves lucky. He was an inspiration to many and his legacy lives on through the lives he touched. We recorded an episode for this week, but it's hard to concentrate on producing a new episode. Instead, we re-release this episode to honor and remember him. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it. Rest in peace Jon. Original episode description below https://rss.madcastmedia.com/bestdebate/111/jon.jpg We have an amazing guest this week, the legendary Jon Schnepp, director of Metalocalypse, The Death of "Superman Lives,", and one of the directors of "The ABCs of Death," as well as Venture Brothers, and the new Slayer comic: https://www.darkhorse.com/Comics/30-952/Slayer-Repentless-1 You can also find Jon on Instagram to follow all his latest projects.
