Salk opens the hour by discussing something that's on his mind: why he doesn't take an issue with nepotism in sports the way that many do, tying it to LeBron and Bronny James, while also throwing some references in about Ken Griffey Sr and Ken Griffey Jr as well. Later, they re-visit their conversation with Mike Macdonald and get his takeaways from the Seahawks win in Atlanta.
Ben & Woods start the 8am hour talking a little more hoops with the start of the NBA season tonight, and how Ken Griffey Sr and Ken Griffey Jr will be in attendance tonight in Los Angeles to watch LeBron James and Bronny play for the Lakers. Then, while Ben may have a fetish for being bullied by our listeners, he makes a bit of an argument that it MIGHT be in the Padres best interest to actually ROOT for the dodgers in the World Series?? He makes his argument, and it leaves Woods and Paul practically speechless. Listen here!
DJ & PK talked about Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. traveling to L.A. to watch LeBron and Bronny James make NBA history as the first father-son duo to play together in the NBA more than 30 years after the Griffeys made MLB history by playing together for the Seattle Mariners.

Locked On Giants – Daily Podcast On The San Francisco Giants
After a long wait, the San Francisco Giants' 2023 ZiPS projections are finally here! And the computer actually likes the Giants more than you'd probably expect. The SF Giants' position player projections are discussed today, and while it's clear that the Giants are missing star talent at the top (not for lack of trying), they feature an unusually high volume of solid players. That depth is not meaningless, particularly paired with the Giants' strong pitching staff, as ZiPS creator Dan Szymborski views the Giants as an 85-90-win team.Mike Yastrzemski is projected to be the Giants' best position player, which is ironic given the (surprisingly) negative reaction that erupted on Twitter when the Giants and Yaz agreed to a one-year deal for 2023 back in November. Again, Yaz is not at all projected to be a star, but he leads the large pack projected to produce between roughly 1.5 and 2.5 WAR. Batting averages are discussed in detail; specifically, how it's simply bad practice to act as though a .240 AVG is dreadful in the modern game. On the contrary, that is now roughly league average, and expectations need to be adjusted. The San Francisco Giants also have some very interesting prospect projections. Most of those appear on the pitching side, but on the position player side, Vaun Brown comes in with very interesting age-based comps. His top three comps are Starling Marte, Ken Griffey Sr., and Ramon Laureano. Brown had a monster season between Low-A and High-A, but he was old for those leagues. However, that doesn't stop ZiPS from projecting Brown as a league-average major league hitter already, which supports the notion that he's certainly someone to watch as he likely begins 2023 in Double-A.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

Have you noticed that athletics run in the family? Sometimes championships even run in the family. Archie Manning was a quarterback in the NFL for 13 seasons, mostly with the New Orleans Saints. His two sons, Payton and Eli, have also been quarterbacks in the NFL. Both of the boys have two Super Bowl victories each. * Or consider the Griffeys in Major League Baseball. Ken Griffey Sr. made the All Star team three times. His son Ken Griffey Jr. was an All Star 13 times. At one point, both father and son played for the Mariners. In one game they hit back-to-back homers. They are the only father-son duo to accomplish the feat. Then there are the Earnhardts in NASCAR racing. Ralph Earnhardt won the 1956 National Sportsman division. His son, Dale Earnhardt Sr., was won the Winston Cup seven times. Dale Earnhardt Jr. has won over 25 victories in stock car racing, including the Daytona 500 twice. It seems almost cliché to say “like father like son.” But it is so true. Sons often look like and act like their fathers, even when it involves sports. If we are to be merciful, like the Beatitudes urge, then we need to take after our heavenly Father. Or, as Luke 6:36 says, “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” (NIV) *All examples from: "Athletes and Their Athlete Fathers," Sports Illustrated, June 8, 2015, https://www.si.com/sports-illustrated/2015/06/08/athletes-and-their-athlete-fathers#gid=ci025587d770012781&pid=eli-peyton-and-archie-manning. One baseball father-son duo is teaming up to spread awareness for prostate cancer. FOX's Alex Hein reports in "Housecall for Health": Baseball's famous father-son duo Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. are teaming up again, but this time it's to spread awareness about a deadly disease that hits close to home for them both, prostate cancer. Griffey Sr. was diagnosed with prostate cancer 11 years ago after going to the doctor at the insistence of his mother. He didn't have any symptoms, but other patients may experience troubling urinating, poor urine flow, blood in semen, discomfort in pelvic area, bone pain and erectile dysfunction. His diagnosis prompted Jr. and his friends to get checked and now Sr. and Jr. want other men to get vocal about the cancer and have joined 'The Men Who Speak Up' campaign: (Griffey Jr.) "After awhile it became just a normal conversation. I have friends who you know were all around 47 to 51 and it's a lot easier for us to talk about it. We make sure that everybody knows their doctors appointments and we get on them about keeping their doctors appointments." For more on this story check FOXNewsHealth.com. The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Big Read Machine Legend Ken Griffey Sr. He will discuss his career and other things that are in his new book Big Red, Baseball, Fatherhood, and My Life in the Big Red Machine. Reflecting on an outstanding 19-year major-league career, this autobiography chronicles baseball great Ken Griffey, beginning with his days just out of high school. The account relates Griffey's decision to venture into the baseball business, documenting his time as a scout, coach, and manager along with his accomplishments as a father, raising two other major league ballplayers: Craig, who played briefly for the Seattle Mariners, and future Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. Capturing the subject's time with the Big Red Machine, this record details his days playing alongside Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, and Pete Rose, highlighting the Reds' two consecutive world championships in 1975 and 1976. Finally, the ultimate thrill of Griffey's career is featured: playing in the same outfield in 1990 with his son, Ken Griffey Jr., during the game where they hit back-to-back home runs—the only father-son combination to do so in the history of Major League Baseball. Filled with amusing anecdotes and behind-the-scenes glimpses of what it's like when baseball really does run in the family, this is a sports memoir unlike any other.
