Happy Valentine's Day, lovers! We decided to do a classic romcom that *one* of us had never seen, and drop it as a romantic, holiday bonus. So here we are, with a movie that doesn't work on paper, but big time works on the screen: a star-making turn by Julia Roberts who has “it” more than just about anyone has ever had, Richard Gere somehow making us like a 41 year old billionaire, Hector Elizondo being an all-time hotel daddy, Jason Alexander portraying the most punchable man of all time, Laura San Giacomo as a really fun bestie and PATRICK RICHWOOD as a scene stealing elevator man. Oh, and Garry Marshall with one of the most impossible directing assignments of all time, done perfectly. Folks? After 5 years, this is our longest single podcast episode of all time. We hope you enjoy it, and we love you for everything you've done for us. Happy Valentine's Day. If you'd like Kevin & Jon in your life on the regular, year-round? Join patreon.com/kevinandjon.

Well you've probably heard the news, or at least the rumor, innuendo, and vague-gramming: it appears Sara Ramirez and their iconic character of Che Diaz is leaving “And Just Like That.” Thankfully, since the show isn't coming back until 2025, we all have time to process our grief. Kevin & Jon hop on the mics to talk about what we know so far about these reports, what Sara said, and what we'll miss most about Che. British director, animator and author Kevin Jon Davies speaks to Georgina Godwin. With a career that has included writing and directing the documentary ‘Doctor Who: Thirty Years in the Tardis' and working on animation for the TV adaptation of ‘The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' and the classic film ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit', Davies has now edited a book. The Sunday Times number one bestseller ‘42: The Wildly Improbable Ideas of Douglas Adams' collates the genius of his late friend and collaborator through previously unseen archival material.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Director, animator, and author Kevin Jon Davies grew up enthralled by Doctor Who and Spike Milligan's The Goon Show. When he discovered the original Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio show, it seemed like the best of both worlds. Before long, he was doing animation for the TV series. Kevin tells me how he got into animation, how he moved from animation into directing—including directing 30th anniversary documentaries for both Doctor Who and Hitchhiker's in the same year—and all about the process of writing his new book, 42: The Wildly Improbable Ideas of Douglas Adams. Episode breakdown: [00:07:22] Learning to direct through osmosis on set. Enjoyed being with others in live action. Lucky breaks in animation and directing. [00:14:58] Early Doctor Who, Spike Milligan's comedy influence. [00:17:53] Douglas Adams: famous for procrastinating. [00:24:42] Making 30 Years in the TARDIS. [00:28:48] The BBC's unfortunate habit of throwing things away. [00:32:32] The Alchemists of Sound documentary and unsung genius Delia Derbyshire. [00:39:20] Complex copyright issues for BBC staff artists. [00:43:06] Following in Douglas Adams's footsteps while researching the new book. [00:50:31] Adams's an increasing interest in science toward the end of his life. [00:55:48] Last Chance to See. [01:03:02] Adams's untimely death, and the continued celebration of his work. Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) depicts the trial of Nazi judges before the U.S. military tribunal in Nuremberg, Germany, following World War II. The film was directed by Stanley Kramer from a screenplay by Abbie Mann; it features a sensational cast that includes Spencer Tracy, Burt Lancaster, Maximilian Schell (who won an Oscar for best actor), Richard Widmark, Marlene Dietrich, Judy Garland, Montgomery Clift, and William Shatner. The film provides a gripping account of the “Judges' Trial” or "Justice Case" (as it has become known), exploring issues around individual and collective guilt, the challenges facing tribunals seeking to punish mass atrocities, and the quest for peace and justice after the horrors of World War II. In many respects, the film remains as relevant today as it was when it was first released. To prepare for the upcoming “And Just Like That” series premiere, Kevin & Jon go back to where it all started, and rewatch the Sex and the City pilot episode from 1998 (beginning at 19:24). Unlike our own episode 1.1, we now know everybody's names, and have a whole new perspective. Before that, we talk a bit out the second trailer that just dropped. It's time for an August update on all the news and rumors about the new Sex and the City series, “And Just Like That.” Kevin & Jon are joined by several ladies to help round up the info. (POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT EPISODE!) We've got a leaked page from the script, the first episode's title, and a possible funeral scene? We scour Instagram posts, talk about Carrie's fashion, what's real and what might be a misdirect to throw us off the scent. Jon also destroys a piece of Kevin's mom's wicker furniture. In this Cult Connections Special Ian is joined by animator Kevin Jon Davies as we talk about his work on the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy TV series, his relationship with Douglas Adams, Doctor Who and so much more.
Jared Freid is a comedian (special “Socially Distanced, Of Course”) and podcast host (J-Train Podcast) and he joins Kevin & Jon to talk about being guys who watch shows made for women, how Samantha has aged better than anyone, and to break down Sex and the City: The Movie. Well, don't Kevin & Jon know how to time things perfectly: Sex and the City is officially coming back with an HBO reboot titled "And Just Like That." Kevin and Jon talk about what we know now, what we expect to happen, and more. We can't wait to podcast with Sex and the City AS IT HAPPENS. A conversation with Prof. Kevin Heller of the University of Copenhagen about unilateral humanitarian intervention - Heller argues that it is not only unlawful, and should remain so, but that it may actually constitute an act of aggression as defined under the Rome Statute, and that its perpetrators could, theoretically, be charged for the crime of aggression. Carrie accidentally goes Brazilian, which apparently was SHOCKING in 2000, and then she hooks up with Vince Vaughn who is NOT playing Vince Vaughn. Miranda's ex "Letterman Lou" has rage and chewing issues, and Samantha meets Hugh Hefner and heads to the Playboy Mansion. Jon & Kevin talk about the times they went to LA to go to the Emmys because they're BIG TIME SHOWBIZ PEOPLE. Who was your first celebrity crush? And would you get a heart attack if it meant getting boners? #JonHasNoButt Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday Email: sexandthecidiots@gmail.com
The ladies go Hollywood! There's a dildo model for Samantha, an insane actual Matthew McConaughey for Carrie, Miranda drugs her cat, talks to a Dique and rips her shirt off on a mechanical bull. Charlotte tries putting stamps on Trey's deal, and she gets...a happy delivery? Kind of. Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday
Carrie drops a little Chucky Dicks quote on us: "It was the best of times (cheating with Big), it was the worst of times (cheating with Big...also Aidan's there, we guess). She starts rolling out the news of her affair with Big to the rest of her friends. Charlotte gets her bridezilla on, and Miranda is attracted to a man who is a sandwich. Samantha gets an AIDS test -- comedy, people! And Blimpie's says EAT ME. Was Carrie the original Tony Soprano? We discuss! Do we fanfic a Sopranos / SATC crossover? You bet your ass we do! And Jon adds Aidan's 'sexy noises' to his ong list of impressions. Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday
Oh boy, Carrie and Big really did it this time! At the end of the episode, at least, after an elevator scene that did not age well! Charlotte gets engaged, and Samantha says the greatest phrase we've ever heard a Samantha voice say: "funky tasting spunk," and really goes into detail about BJ talk. Also, maybe the most annoying exchange in history, at the Manhattan Furniture Expo about something called a "booth bitch." Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday
In a new development, Kevin and Jon recommend actually WATCHING this episode! That's how good it was! SO many soundbites, and literal BIG developments. Charlotte "everything-but-girl" thinks she may have found "the One" in Trey, Samantha thinks she's menopausin', Steve is a real baby about wanting babies, and it leads to a moment even JON calls "emotional." Big wants Carrie back bad...kinda. Can having sex too quickly ruin a good thing? How little do we know about birth control? And honestly, how did Steve get so dumb? Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday
One of our favourite journalist-friendly academics, Kevin Jon Heller, joins us to discuss both ICC jurisdiction and blockbuster legal dramas.
Carrie's dating Aidan and things are going...TOO well. At least until Big shows up. Miranda and Steve might be...TOO comfortable (#SkidmarkSteve), and Charlotte meets Trey. Samantha gets addicted to the V(iagra). Do you need some "drama" in a relationship to make it good? What drugs have you had sex on? What's Rudy's in NYC? How important is the "stomach flip"? Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday
Kevin & Jon are joined by their best lady friend, guest co-host Elizabeth Kuchta Deichl for a very special episode: "Are We Sluts?" (Spoiler, we are!) Aidan sends mixed sex/no sex signals to Carrie, including a REALLY weird bath, Miranda gets Chlamydia, one of Samantha's not-so-gentlemanly callers lets in a robber, and she gets shunned all the way to the Meat Packing district, and Charlotte has a guy who blacks out and then VERY dirty talks. What's your "number"? Who counts as your "numbers"? ARE we sluts?! Is the "friend zone" a thing? How fast should you make a move, dude?! Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday
BIG NEWS: Carrie meets Aidan! We haven't seen this show before, but even we know this is a big deal. Samantha dates a black man whose chef sister disapproves, and Charlotte has a good date until the guy tries to swallow her face. Maybe the biggest news is that Carrie kind of tries to quit smoking? Do we even KNOW her anymore? Oh and Steve takes the worst looking half court basketball shot of all time and needs Miranda to support him, dammitt. What are your dealbreakers? For Aidan, it's smoking, and Kevin & Jon talk about theirs. Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday
Maybe this Sex and the City episode didn't age well, but at least it had Alanis Morissette! Carrie's into someone who likes both guys & gals, and her response is basically: whaaaaaaaat?!?! Samantha fires an employee so she can f*ck him, Miranda deals with a clingy, space-invading Steve, and Charlotte dresses like a BOY! Ladies and gentlemen and gentlemen and ladies, this episode is all about gender stuff! Also: what's your side of the bed, and what hand are you better at "doing stuff" with? Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday
Carrie runs into Big's new wife, who makes her feel so inferior she buys new shoes to impress her at lunch. Classic move! Samantha takes the gals to the spa, grabs some junk and gets in trouble, while Charlotte reveals she's #TeamNeverNude. Miranda's housekeeper tries to sex-shame her, but NO ONE sex shames Miranda! You already KNOW! We also talk about the New York Times Wedding Announcements, and the boys take a guess at Big's actual name. Also, another reason to hate Tom Brady. Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday
Oh boy, in this episode, Carrie gets a p. bad sex request (unless you're into it!), Samantha dates a tiny man with BDE, Charlotte wants to bone Dan Quayle, and sets up a "used date" party, where people bring someone they DON'T want to date. Miranda & Steve talk about going "exclusive." Do women like being picked up? What's the weirdest thing you've been asked to do, sex-wise? Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday
Season 3 premiere, and it's on FIRE! But then it's quickly put out because there are a bunch of firefighters in this episode. Carrie judges, Samantha f's one, and another great guest star (John Slattery) shows up to date Carrie. Big question: "Do women just want to be rescued?" and Charlotte says: "I've been dating since I was 15, I'm exhausted, where is he?!" Charlotte's guy punches everybody and Miranda gets eye surgery. Slattery plays a man running for comptroller, and Jon & Kevin figure out what the hell that actually is. Ladies, do you dance with your purse? And Jon finds his favorite character yet: JJ! Also, inspired by the firemen: we talk about the sexiest jobs! Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday

Season 2 finale! Mr. Big is engaged to a young woman named Natasha, Miranda & Steve get back together, Samantha deals with Kevin's REAL LIFE FRIEND Mr. Too Big, John Enos! And Charlotte...is in love with a horse? Man, that was weird. And we get the scene about "The Way We Were." Can you be friends with an ex?! Can Jon and Kevin? Have you ever made a "scene" at a restaurant? How big of a D is too big? Jon drops an all-time reference, when he says "are we gonna have a Catherine the Great situation?" Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday
What are the main differences between working at traditional management/strategy consulting firms and the well-known big 4 firms? Cheers, Kevin Jon
The gals go to the Hamptons, find out Big is dating a new gal, and one of 'em gets crabs (not from the sea). There's a 25-year-old virgin who loves Carrie's column, and some B-word who disrespects Samantha gets what's coming to her. Also Miranda, uh, goes shopping? Great work. Kevin talks about how he got Liza Minelli's phone number, and we bemoan the spoilers in the OPENING FRIGGIN' CREDITS. And are you better on paper or in bed? Honestly we were too drunk when we recorded this and it was 4 a.m. so maybe play it at 1.5xSpeed to get us to sound like normal humans. Are the best human-beings working in management consulting? Or is there some even higher calling to mankind? Cheers, Kevin Jon
Was it good for you? We say, it was "fine." Carrie dates an alcoholic / is a human relapse, but his hilarious first sober sex is all worth it. Charlotte puts a man to bed, Samantha has a couple of gay friends who want to try out straight sex. If you thought Miranda was the boring one, guess what? In this one, she gets new sheets. And, uh, that's it. How do you know if you're good in bed? Are we being graded? And Jon & Kevin grade themselves. Why choose consulting? Let's discover why! Cheers, Kevin Jon.
Jon has three options for what this episode title means - 1 right, 1 almost, and 1 super wrong. Carrie dates Justin Theroux for the SECOND time in this series and now he has a problem with sexual "timing." Miranda dates a divorced dad and his sh*tty kid, and Charlotte's divorced brother shows up, and Samantha gives him a BIG welcome. If you're not clicking sexually, can you still make it work? When it comes to the person you're dating, how much does family matter? What if your sibling bones your friend? Here I give my coaching guest a lesson on what internships to do in order to break into management consulting. Cheers, Kevin Jon
Carrie has an "F" buddy, or an "S" buddy, depending on what channel you're watching this on. Samantha has fun with a noisy sex couple next door, Charlotte double books dates on a night, and Miranda dates a total f'ing loser who is of course named "Kevin." The gals (and our guys) talk about their dating patterns, and we get the return...of Skippy. Oh and ya Cidiots went corporate -- we have our first sponsor, Dirty Fun Box. Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday
Here I talk about the most common mistakes that you should avoid doing as a management consultant that is just starting out. Cheers, Kevin Jon.
Shot through the heart, and WE are to blame, because Bon freaking Jovi is in this episode. In "The Games People Play," Carrie "has the poof," whatever the F that means. She's talking to her friends about Big nonstop, and ends up going to therapy and having an important revelation: "I pick the wrong men." Oh and they play games, like Twister. Miranda has a flashing party with a neighbor. Samantha dates a "sports guy" and becomes the biggest Knicks fan on Earth. Oh and Charlotte does nothing. Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin & Jon, @kevinmccaff & @jackperday
Here I give my coaching guest a lesson on what a typical day in the life of a management consultant working for a major management consulting firm could look like. Cheers, Kevin Jon
Here, I give my coaching guest a lesson on what the exit options in consulting (management consulting) look like compared to investment Banking. Cheers, Kevin Jon.
This episode is graded on a curve...The Cheating Curve! Carrie gets back with Big, Charlotte tries to join the lesbian Avengers, Miranda is surrounded by porn, and Charlotte deals with a personal trainer who loves NOT doing it. WHAT IS CHEATING?! WHAT IS A POWER LESBIAN ELITE?! WHAT IS A DIAPHRAGM?! Kevin & Jon cut a promo on allll the other SATC pods, and Kevin takes down "Big Male G-Spot." Jon tells the story of saying "I love you" for the first time, and how he "takes too long to do things" Twitter: @sexcidiotspod Instagram: @sexandthecidiots Kevin @kevinmccaff & Jon @jackperday
Advising friends to break up with their significant others? Dicey! Most unrealistic thing about this ep? No guy doesn't know the size of his d*ck. The BIG problem in this episode is a genuinely abusive husband who Kevin & Jon wanna beat up. YIKES. Smaller problems include Carrie getting caught having to advise a breakup, Miranda trying dirty talk, Charlotte hanging out with a dog she doesn't even really like, and the smallest problem? Samantha's guy's dick. STILL. This completes the trilogy of small dink episodes for Sam. RIP tiny. In fun news: there are some nips in this one! Your Cidiots have broken the seal...and the 4th wall! Kevin & Jon review the pilot episode of Sex and the City, which had a LOT of SJP talking directly to the camera. We talk about the first opening credits, which only features ONE of our four ladies - the one who calls herself a "Sexual anthropologist" - and doesn't really feel like a full ensemble yet. How does the NYC of 1998 compare to our experience of NYC 2018? And, spoiler, they call Mr. Big "The Next Donald Trump." Oof. Oh, and cunnilingus etiquette. We start what will for sure be recurring features: 1) all the "Most '90s Things," including smoking, phones, and Alec Baldwin. 2) Our own title of the episode, and 3) fun cameos.
