Happy Friday, thanks for downloading another bumper episode! We start this week with the Cool Board. Where will golf speakers, groove cleaners and Sunday bags find their way onto the board? The Explainer this week sees us dive into aftermarket shafts. What exactly is different about an aftermarket shaft versus a stock shaft? And, is the investment in an aftermarket shaft really worth it? Joe explains all. Ask The Pod this week wants to know if anyone really needs a 60° wedge. If someone like Dan Grieve only uses his for emergencies, are we wasting a slot in the bag with a club that rarely makes an appearance and is hard to hit? Finally, this week's WITB sees us investigate the clubs of Phil Mickelson. Joe was due to interview golf's great left-hander earlier this year in Singapore, but sadly that got cancelled. Even so, Joe managed to have a little root around Phil's bag, so he has some brilliant insights into his current equipment. We also take a brief trip into Phil's equipment history - did you know he's the only player to have won a major with no drivers, one driver and two drivers in his bag? Happy Friday, Happy Kick Point Day. With the leaderboard at the PGA Championship looking more like a Sunday at the 3M Open than one of professional golf's premier weekends, hopefully, we can act as an area of respite from the less-than-exciting leaderboard in Charlotte. First up this week, Joe's got something he needs to get off his chest- why is there such little consensus in golf equipment? Where one fitter might tell you swing weight is the most important aspect of a club fitting, another might tell you it's swing weight. Why is there no standardisation in measuring shaft torque? Or in shaft flex? Why, after all these years, is the so much disagreement in the equipment industry? We try our hardest to figure out why and offer a solution.... The Cool Board see rope caps, 7-woods and animal headcovers in the limelight - where will these three pieces of golf paraphernalia find their way onto the board? Finally, we're off to the kitchen to investigate the tools of Chef Min Woo Lee. A Callaway ambassador, Min Woo has some of the most tour-exclusive equipment Callaway has to offer, as well as potentially the grippiest grips that have ever gripped! Happy Friday! We've got another bumper episode for you this week, so thanks for downloading. Ask The Pod this week wants to know what the best and worst club builds and purchases we've made are, and The Cool Board is back for a second week, too. Heading somewhere on the board this week are black irons, 14-way dividers on stand bags and bag tags. Finally, with the PGA Championship starting next Thursday, we thought we'd take a trip down memory lane to 2015 to take a look at what Jason Day had in the bag for his first (and only) Major championship victory. Day was repping a full bag of TaylorMade equipment in 2015, an era where TaylorMade had some mixed results with its hardware and golf balls. So, what did Day use to conquer Whistling Straits ten years ago? It's Friday, it's Kick Point, you know the drill. Thanks for downloading this week's episode. We really do appreciate you supporting and enjoying the show! As always, there's plenty of waffle to start this week, including Joe's Easter adventures in a renovated bus, Dan's trip to HobbyCraft and some of your correspondence on which golf equipment best suits which brand of car. Onto the actual equipment chat, we've got a review of the latest mini driver to hit shelves, the TaylorMade R7 Quad mini. Does it do much to move the category on from last year's Brnr Copper Mini or is it just a nice excuse for TaylorMade to wheel out some good old-fashioned nostalgia? We're also introducing a shiny new segment to the show, the Cool Board. Those of you who watched Top Gear may recognise what we've done here, but we must stress that the Cool Board is an entirely different and unrelated premise to Top Gear's Cool Wall. Each week, we'll place a few pieces of golf equipment and brands into one of five categories on our newly designed Cool Board. You'll hear the full rules on the show, but we want you as involved as possible in this, so listen out for how you can get involved. Finally, we get stuck into the Grand Slam-winning bag of Rory McIlroy. The story this year has been more about what hasn't changed in Rory's bag than what has, so we dive into why he hasn't switched into Qi35 woods and how the chance decision to change golf balls may have been the key to his stunning 2025 so far. Little did we know when we recorded this episode at the end of March that we'd be sitting here right now with Rory McIlroy as a Grand Slam winner. Yes, we filmed this many weeks before the Masters, so we are clueless to Rory's triumph, hence the complete lack of reference to one of the biggest moments in our sport's history! Back to matters of equipment. This week, Dan has a rant about driving range etiquette and people's obsession with how far they're hitting the ball, Joe has an explainer all about torque in shafts, and this week's Ask The Pod wants to know what our dream equipment and apparel sponsors would be. Later, we're joined by Northern Ireland's second-best golfer (sorry, Tom), gear nerd and equipment aficionado Tom McKibbin, for an in-depth look into his bag for the 2025 season. Happy Masters Friday! We hope you're enjoying the tournament, and thank you for spending some time with us when there are plenty of other exciting things happening in the world of golf. After a suspiciously L.A.B Golf DF3-shaped Odyssey putter appeared on Tour last month, we ask if copying in the golf equipment industry is a problem or just fair game. Elsewhere, Joe's been playing around with his putter (again) and has changed the shaft in his trusty blade for the first time. Should we all be thinking about our putter shafts in as much detail as driver and iron shafts? Ask The Pod this week wants to know how long ball manufacturers make old models of golf balls for its Tour pros. We then discuss whether something is going on with Rory's TP5 golf ball after he was caught on a hot mic during TGL last month... We are also thrilled to welcome Rick Shiels onto the show this week. Joe met golf's biggest YouTuber in Singapore last month to chat all things equipment and equipment testing. Has he always been an equipment geek? What are his favorite things to test? How would he make the game easier for amateurs through equipment? All of this and more is answered in our chat. Sit back, relax, and get a drink in your hand; it's nearly Masters week! To celebrate, we're heading back to 2019 to take a deep dive into the winning bag of Tiger Woods. Can you call 2019 retro? Either way our popular retro WITB series is back. Thanks to this week's partner GolfClubs4Cash, we have examples of Tiger's clubs with us on set this week. We must stress these aren't Tiger's actual clubs (that would've been some coup), but it's a wonderful addition to Joe's detailed What's In The Bag. Also this week, Joe catches us all up with his adventures at LIV Golf Singapore. From bumping into Rick Shiels in a 7-Eleven at midnight to embarrassing himself in from of Bryson DeChambeau (again) he's got plenty of Tour gossip and exciting equipment stories to share. Listen out for our exciting Golf Pride Honorary Starter grip set giveaway at the start of the episode, and head over to our Instagram (@kickpointgolf) to get yourself entered before the competition closes on Monday. Joe's got something he wants to get off his chest this week. He thinks the new PXG Wildcat driver has been criminally under-spoken about and wants to give what he thinks is an emerging new driver sub-category the time of day. How can this shortened, lighter, loftier 460cc head driver benefit slower swing speed golfers? The explainer this week focuses on whether the shafts we can also use the shafts Tour pros use. Of course, you can, in theory, but the real question is, should you? Ask The Pod wants to know about Joe's wildest 3D printing dreams (strap in for that segment), while the WITB this week looks at Aaron Rai. The Englishman has been steadily making his way up the world golf rankings and is known for a handful of equipment quirks. We check out his old TaylorMade driver, orange castle tees, double winter gloves and much more. Joe's in storytelling mode this week with two belters about the time he met Rory McIlroy at Celtic Manor and a little-known piece of insight into Tiger Woods' rudimentary equipment secret. We're also bringing back the explainer this week to talk about (get your giggles out of the way now) shaft length. It is a vital and often misunderstood part of the fitting process that has an impact on pretty much everything from distance to consistency - Joe is here to explain exactly how to get it right for your game. Finally, this week's What's In The Bag is on Tommy Fleetwood. Joe has a direct line to Tommy Fleetwood's actual fitter at TaylorMade HQ, so we've got plenty of insights to share about the Englishman's 2025 set-up. It was a hell of a performance from our relief pitcher (and equipment expert) Sam De'Ath, but he exits stage left to a rapturous reception as Joe retakes his throne on the Kick Point set this week. Not only is he back, but he's also providing a hot take about caddies - 'Why do we have them?'. Given that a few members of the Golf Monthly team are former caddies, his answer certainly ruffled some feathers within the office... As for the rest of the show, we have a Kick Point first - we talk about a club we've BOTH reviewed! Yes, I've taken a break from shoes and bags and been thrown in the deep end to discuss the PXG Secret Weapon Mini Driver - are mini drivers worth it or simply a bit of a marketing gimmick? We discuss. We discuss club gapping on this week's 'Ask The Pod' as we answer listener questions before diving into our latest What's In The Bag and taking a closer look into the equipment used by Ryder Cup star Max Homa following his move to Cobra for the 2025 season. If you're a bit of a putter nerd or a total putter newbie, then you're in luck this week as our guru Sam De'Ath returns to give us the full lowdown on the latest craze in flatstick technology - zero torque putters! Unfortunately, that means no Joe this week. Eagle-eyed viewers will notice he had a bit of tape on the sole of his shoe all last week, and I would like to say he's sitting out this week out of embarrassment, but that would be lying... Instead, this episode was supposed to air last week, but one of the products we spoke about was embargoed, and we can't be upsetting the friendly companies that supply us with these clubs to test, can we? However, we promise that this episode is worth the wait. We cover zero torque - what they are, why you might use one and which ones we think are the best depending on what kind of golfer you are. Drumroll please…….… Joe is back! As we say here in England, super sub Sam De'Ath had great innings (Google it, Americans), but it's time for the star of the show to return and talk golf gear. His back is better, his beard is trimmed, and his makeup is done - we couldn't be happier to have ‘The Pro' back. And it's a bumper episode to return to. Joe will give us insight into two of his favorite things - Taylormade irons and golf grips. Yes, we're diving deep into his review of the latest P790 irons whilst also talking about the new Golf Pride Align Max grips and how revolutionary they could prove to be for your game. Other items on the agenda - we answer questions about Joe's experience with Bryson DeChambeau's irons on Ask The Pod and investigate what Hideki Matsuyama is swinging with in the latest What's In The Bag? Thanks for all your well wishes to the injured Joe The Pro last week! He'll be back (no pun intended) better than ever next week. So, given his stunning debut performance last week, Sam De'Ath returns to spread knowledge and wisdom about hybrids for the new golf season. We ask whether the club is falling out of fashion on Tour; why we think the average golfer should be using more of them and Sam runs through which of the latest releases are the best for you. We also get technical with wedges and answer the question - 'should people have their wedges bent flatter than their irons?' We're on the road this week, bringing you a special episode from inside the Precision Golf Fitting Centre in Surrey. Joe has mentioned the studio several times in previous episodes (he used to work at Precision Golf too!) so we thought it was time we took a deep dive into what an independent fitting centre is and why Precision Golf is so revered in the fitting industry. We'll chat about how the studio works, what advantages you might get from being fitted at an independent studio, and just what makes them so different from any other fitting centres. We're also joined by Precision Golf owner Simon Cooper who takes charge of this week's explainer, looking at shaft frequency and shaft analysers. There's also time for an Ask The Pod and this week we're asked how to go about building the perfect half-set and if it's possible to be fit for just half a set of clubs. We're now on YouTube! Watch full episodes at: https://www.youtube.com/@KickPointGolf We're also now on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kickpointgolf/?hl=en Brace yourselves for the biggest (and best?) episode of Kick Point to date. It's a bumper episode, so settle in for the ride. Building on last week's head-to-head versus old and new driver generations, we've put three different brands head-to-head in the ultra-competitive compact distance iron category. It's an epic three-way pitting the TaylorMade P770, Callaway Apex Pro and Mizuno Pro 245 against each other. Joe has tested all of them and gives his verdict on each iron across multiple categories and Dan comes up with a new scoring system that we'll politely call 'ad-hoc' for now. This week's Ask The Pod is likely the most philosophical question we've received as a listener enquires whether he should buy a set of blades despite his 18 handicap ability - what do we buy golf clubs for if not to enjoy them? Then, YouTuber James Robinson joins us for a What's In The Bag special. As a content creator who reviews pretty much every club there is to be reviewed, what does a man with the ultimate choice decide put into his bag? He joins Joe for a conversation about his equipment and spends some time discussing wider equipment topics. Thanks to James for joining us! Another jam packed episode for you this week, including a brand new segment 'Ask The Pod'. The lads start this week with a review of Titleist's new GT drivers. Joe was lucky enough to enjoy the full fitting experience at the Titleist Performance Centre in Woburn and shares his thoughts both on that experience and the performance of the new drivers. After that, this week's explainer is on gear effect. We all benefit from the changes manufacturers make to golf clubs to alleviate gear effect, but what exactly is it? Also this week is the launch of 'Ask The Pod'. It's a fairly self explanatory section, where Dan and Joe field equipment related questions from listeners and viewers - easy! To have your question answered in a future episode of Kick Point, you can get in touch via kickpointpodcast@futurenet.com. Finally, Joe is joined by Ian Poulter, who offers a detailed look at the whats and the whys of the equipment in his golf bag. Stick around for some impressive insight on his new Titleist GT2 driver and his thoughts on tapering grips.
This week Dan and Joe are 'Live From LIV' with a bit of a different, but nonetheless jam-packed, episode of Kick Point. The lads were on site at JCB Golf & Country Club for the LIV UK event back in July and have lined up six WITB specials with some of the game's biggest names. This week, they're joined by Henrik Stenson who talks through his eclectic and somewhat aging bag of equipment. Yes, that iconic 3-wood is still in the bag but there's also some new nuggets and equipment tweaks the Ice Man is still making. Before they chat to Henrik, Joe wanted to sit back and take stock of the year in equipment so far. Seeing as it was the summer holidays when they recorded this, Dan and Joe spend some time grading each of the major equipment manufacturers year so far. Who goes home to happy parents with their A grade and who has plenty to work on going into next year?
Thanks for joining us for another episode of Kick Point! First, our Tested This Week comes in the shape of Seed golf balls, a direct-to-consumer golf ball brand now available in the UK and US that claims to offer balls that perform as well as the big brands best balls for half the price. Joe has been out on the golf course and with his Trackman to put these claims to the test... Joe's explainer this week is something of a back to basics, but with a Kick Point twist, all about bounce. Joe talks through what bounce is, how we can use it to our advantage on course and asks why iron sets don't come with different bounce options. Finally, this week's What's In The Bag is Viktor Hovland. The Norwegian has had a tough year on Tour after winning the FedEx last year - has he made any drastic equipment changes to try and help him out? As always, fell free to get in touch with Dan and Joe by dropping an email to: kickpointpodcast@futurenet.com. We would love to hear your suggestions for reviews, player's bags to cover and golf gear terminology to debunk.
This week, we welcome our first ever guest onto Kick Point - Richard Bland. We spoke to Richard at his home club The Wisley the week after he won the Senior PGA Championship in Michigan. With very mixed bag, this episode is a really interesting dive into a fellow equipment nerd's bag. After we spoke to him, Cleeks GC went on to win its first team event at LIV Houston and Richard went on to win the US Senior Open, so we'll consider this appearance Kick Point's first podcast bump! Hope you enjoy this special (we've got plenty of guests lined up to join us very soon) and we'll be back next week with our usual format back in the studio. Get in touch with Dan and Joe by dropping an email to: kickpointpodcast@futurenet.com. We would love to hear your suggestions for reviews, player's bags to cover and golf gear terminology to debunk.

Clearly, SEO is a hot topic amongst small business owners. Reviews of last week's episode on SEO included: “Your best yet, Timbo!” And “The most practical marketing podcast I've ever listened to!” Well, strap in, because Dana DiTomaso (one of the world's leading SEO experts) continues to answer your most pressing SEO questions to set you up for a profitable year ahead. Dana is President & Partner at Kick Point, where she applies marketing into strategies to grow clients' businesses, in particular, to ensure that digital and traditional play well together. With her deep experience in digital, Dana can separate real solutions from wastes of time (and budget). “SEO Is great for getting people to your site … but if your site is boring then no one is going to want to buy your stuff. Spend time getting your website right before putting energy and resources into your SEO.” - Dana DiTomaso, KickPoint Now, if you haven't listened to last week's episode 438 on SEO, then I suggest you do that first, as Dana overviews the fundamentals of SEO that every website must get right. PLUS she also answers around 15 SEO questions that were sent in to me by you. In part 2, the questions and answer keep coming as we cover: How the little guys can compete against the big brands when it comes to SEO Which SEO play will give you the biggest impact upfront Voice search and SEO The importance of content How to get found locally And plenty more So, thanks again for your questions which have formed the basis of this and last week's episodes. Your SEO questions that Dana DiTomaso answers in Part 1 of this two-part SEO series are: Laurel Guymer of LaPerouse Guesthouse: How do we, a small accommodation business, compete with airbnb, booking.com, wotif.com etc ? Adam Neilands of Kelapa Organics: With the goal posts constantly changing with Google's algorithm, where do we start? Out of all the tasks we can complete for SEO which one is the most important/impactful for a stronger ranking on Google? Cameron Harris of Tank On Cleaning: Should the SEO on each page of my website be the same, or should it be different? Robert Wheeler of the Rapid Recovery Room: I'm paranoid about voice search, like Siri, Google Assistant, and Alexa. Apparently, everyone is voice searching on their phones these days and I'm not sure about the best way to get and keep myself in that game. Scott Pendlebury of the Renovator Store: I often wonder why most eCommerce companies write their content and then hire an “SEO specialist” to rewrite it. Given SEO is really about having relevant, amazing and engaging content for the user my question is why isn't it better to make SEO the core strategy of an eCommerce company's content team? Shane Scrutton of Eaglemont Tennis Club: How effective is Google My Business for SEO - ie. does it increase your organic ranking? Sandy Taylor of Sandy Taylor Digital Marketing: As an SEO Copywriter who works with small businesses who are new to marketing, my #1 question would be whether Google will develop Google My Business into a workable substitute for a website for sole traders and optimistic hobbyists who aren't ready for a full website yet? Robert Cagalj of Lease Communications: If I pay for Google Adwords would that increase my "Google juice" after my ad has expired? Enamul Hasan: How much of an impact does content marketing play when doing local SEO for small businesses? Is it really worthwhile pitching content marketing to local businesses like tradies, small retail shops or service professionals in a local area to help them rank well? Jim Knott: Can a business perform well from an SEO perspective purely from organic strategies? Joern Stienz: I run a small Design Training agency and my biggest problem is to find the time and energy to create content (eg. write blog articles). Hence, I ordered a few 1,000-word articles from a text broker portal, but they have not improved my website's visibility. Any ideas on how to make this work? Steve Witt of Not Just Travel: If I have 400 local agents all across the UK ... how does each agent get found at a local level? Charlie Morton: How do I choose keywords? And what constitutes a long-tail keyword? Leanne Parish: What's the best way to get a website to rank for different geotags? For example, you might have a business based in Tamworth, but they might want to rank in Armidale and Coffs Harbour. How do you get them to rank for areas surrounding Tamworth without adding separate pages? We often get clients who want only 5-page websites, so getting them to rank for a far-reaching service area is proving difficult. Help! Matt from Stargazing UK: Regarding the layout of a website nowadays … Should you have all of your products on the main page so the URL is as short as possible; or should you categorise them and have them two or three pages down the tree? Adam Lawrence from Imperium Consulting: If you were to recommend a small business owner to invest time into the learning of, and money into the purchase of, one all-encompassing SEO management solution, which would it be, and why? Me: What would your SEO strategy be to maximise the number of SMEs who hear this episode? Here's what caught my attention from my chat with Dana DiTomaso: Get your SEO fundamentals right … Title tags, load time, mobile-friendly, update your website at least monthly. What's the first thought that comes to mind when I say Search Engine Optimisation? Let me guess … is it “Frustration?” “Waste of time and money?” “Pain?” Do you get a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach at the mention of this geeky acronym!? Well, however you feel about SEO, it's critical to your website's and business's success. And today I have all your SEO questions answered by one of the world's leading experts on this very dark art. Dana is President & Partner at Kick Point, where she applies marketing into strategies to grow clients' businesses, in particular, to ensure that digital and traditional play well together. With her deep experience in digital, Dana can separate real solutions from wastes of time (and budget). “It's probably easier to start with what SEO is NOT! SEO has grown from being really specific, to now it covers every aspect of online marketing. The bottomline however to getting your SEO right is to start with the basics. So let's talk about them first up.” - Dana DiTomaso, KickPoint Now, let me guess … If you're like most small business owners, you've spent plenty of time and money on getting your website live. There was probably tears involved, pulling out of hair and just sheer frustration as you found someone to design it, build it, populate it with words, pictures and videos (that you had to create) … and then finally you screamed at your webmaster “I can't do it anymore … just hit the big green button and send it live!” At that point, you heaved a big sigh of relief, knowing your work there was done and you could get on with much more pressing business matters like attracting great people, calling in outstanding debt and deciding which coffee machine to get for the staff kitchen. But here's the thing ... Whilst having a website is important for any business … getting it live is simply the start of an ongoing process. You see, your website is a needle in a gigantic haystack called the Internet, and your next (and ongoing) challenge is to ensure it gets found by the right people who are ready to buy. And that's where SEO (AKA search engine optimisation) steps in … a dark art for most small business owners who either don't understand it are frustrated by it, have spent money hand over fist getting others to implement it for them or … all of the above. Well, I'm putting a stop to that here and now. Get your SEO right and your website can all of a sudden become an enquiry-generating, money-making machine. And who better to help us do that than Dana DiTomaso who I was kindly introduced to by past guest and SEO legend Rand Fishkin, who was the founder of MOZ, one of the world's leading SEO agencies. With Rand no longer operating in the SEO space, I emailed him a few weeks ago asking who I should chat to get an update on SEO tactics for small business owners as we head into 2019. His immediate response was Dana, a Partner of the Canadian-based digital marketing agency Kick Point. Now, when Rand Fishkin recommends someone, there really is no need to look elsewhere … so I emailed Dana asking her to appear on the show, and she immediately came back with a “Hell yeah!” I then sent a simple email out to my list asking you, my precious listeners, for your most pressing SEO questions. And boy oh boy, was I inundated. So, thanks for your responses, your questions have formed the basis of this and next week's episodes. DANA DITOMASO INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPTION Tim I want to start off by asking you what is and what isn't SEO? Dana I think it's probably easier to start with what it does not because SEO over the years I've been working in this field for 18 years now SEO has really grown from being really specific technical and content changes made to a website so you improve your rankings and Google and now it is everything that encompasses so many different aspects of online marketing... Branding and performance are typically seen as being on opposite ends of the marketing spectrum - the PPC specialists run their campaigns while the branding experts concern themselves with more high-level strategy. But as Dana DiTomaso, Partner at digital marketing agency Kick Point explains in the latest episode of the Call to Action podcast, if you don't see how the two relate, you're likely cheating yourself out of a higher conversion rate.

Though Dana was on our live show last season, we wanted to bring her back and spend a bit more time with her chatting about... well, everything. Hope you enjoy this episode!
