https://teachhoops.com/In this episode of High School Hoops, hosted by Steve Collars from the 5th Quarter Studio in Madison, Wisconsin, we delve into the world of coaching pet peeves and the challenges faced in managing high school basketball teams. Joining Steve is Coach Tom Cannon, bringing his perspective on various issues that coaches encounter. Introduction and Personal Background The episode begins with some light-hearted banter about baseball teams and the unique experiences of visiting iconic stadiums like Fenway Park and Wrigley Field. This sets a relaxed tone before diving into the main discussion. Main Discussion: Coaching Pet Peeves The core of the episode focuses on the pet peeves of coaching, particularly with players. Both coaches share their frustrations and strategies for dealing with these issues. Key Points: Timeliness and Respecting Time: Steve emphasizes the importance of being on time, a value ingrained in him by his father. In his program, players are expected to adhere to "Lambo time," meaning they should be ready 15 minutes before the scheduled start. There's a clear progression of consequences for tardiness: first, the player runs; second, the team runs; and third, the player sits out. Timeout and Halftime Efficiency: Tom's pet peeve is the wasted time during timeouts and halftimes. Players often waste precious seconds getting water or chatting instead of focusing. Steve suggests the practice of "talking with your eyes," ensuring players are attentive and ready to absorb information quickly. Overemphasis on Social Media: Steve expresses frustration with the trend of players posting about their off-season work on social media. He believes true dedication doesn't need to be broadcasted; genuine effort will show in performance. Senior Night Extravagance: Both coaches discuss the increasing drama surrounding senior nights, where the focus shifts from the game to elaborate ceremonies. Steve keeps his senior nights brief to maintain focus on the sport. Specific Strategies for Addressing Issues Steve and Tom share practical strategies they've implemented to address these common issues. Key Points: Communication and Expectations: Clear communication and setting expectations are crucial. Steve highlights the importance of players notifying coaches of any delays or absences to maintain discipline and fairness. Halftime Strategy: Steve advises having team leaders enter the locker room before coaches to start discussions and give players a moment to breathe. This approach makes the best use of halftime for strategic adjustments. Rebounding Drills: The coaches discuss the importance of rebounding and how it can be more about effort and instinct than structured drills. They suggest situational drills to enhance players' natural rebounding abilities. Balancing Praise and Criticism: Maintaining a balance between praising hard work and addressing shortcomings is essential. This balance ensures players feel appreciated while understanding the need for improvement. Conclusion and Coaching Philosophy The episode concludes with reflections on the importance of adapting coaching strategies to address both traditional and modern challenges. Steve and Tom emphasize the need for a balanced approach, incorporating both discipline and flexibility to foster a productive and respectful team environment. Key Points: Avoiding Overcoaching: Coaches should avoid micromanaging and allow players the freedom to develop their instincts and make decisions during games. Adaptability: Each team is different, and coaches must adapt their strategies based on the team's specific strengths and weaknesses. Flexibility and responsiveness are key to effective coaching. Fundamental Skills: No matter how advanced the coaching techniques become, the fundamentals of basketball remain critical. Drills help reinforce these basics, ensuring that players are well-rounded and prepared for any situation. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

In the latest episode of the *Capitalist Investor* podcast titled "Transferring Wealth: Estate Planning 101," hosts Luke, Derek, and Tony delve into crucial aspects of estate planning that every investor should know. Here are the five hot topics discussed in this insightful episode:1. The Importance of Beneficiary FormsTony opens the discussion by emphasizing the critical role of beneficiary forms in estate planning. Often overlooked, these forms can be the most efficient and cost-effective way to ensure that your assets are passed on to the intended recipients. Whether it's a life insurance policy or a 401(k) plan, keeping these forms up-to-date can save time, money, and legal complications down the line. Tony advises reviewing these forms during life events like births, deaths, marriages, divorces, job changes, and relocations.2. Basic Estate Planning DocumentsThe hosts then move on to discuss the fundamental documents that should be part of any estate plan. Tony outlines the "basic suite" of estate planning tools: a will, a living will, a power of attorney, a durable power of attorney, and a healthcare power of attorney. Each of these documents serves a unique purpose, from specifying who gets your prized possessions to outlining your healthcare wishes in the event you are incapacitated.3. Specific Strategies for Business Owners**Luke brings a focused perspective on estate planning for small business owners. He highlights the necessity of having a buy-sell agreement, particularly if the business is to stay within the family. Further, he discusses advanced strategies like deferred sales trusts that can save significant amounts in taxes when transferring business property. This segment underscores the importance of personalized estate planning to fit diverse financial situations.4. Advanced Trusts for Special CircumstancesTony sheds light on more specialized trusts designed to address unique family needs. From spendthrift trusts that control how and when heirs receive their inheritance to special needs trusts tailored to protect children with disabilities, these advanced trusts can help manage large estates and ensure the estate is distributed according to very specific conditions. This topic provides a deeper look into how tailored estate planning can offer nuanced solutions to complex scenarios.5. The Role of CommunicationDerek wraps up the key points by stressing the importance of open communication in estate planning. He recounts a personal story where a friend wasn't aware of the tax implications of inheriting an IRA, underlining the need for families to discuss financial plans and wishes openly. The hosts recommend not only organizing your financial documents but also sharing the pertinent information with your beneficiaries to ensure there's no confusion when the time comes. The hosts agree that having a comprehensive estate plan is crucial not just for your peace of mind, but also for the well-being and financial security of your loved ones. Estate planning is not a one-size-fits-all process; it requires a tailored approach depending on your specific financial situation and family dynamics. Consulting qualified professionals is a must to navigate the complexities and nuances of transferring wealth efficiently.

It feels like every entrepreneur lists “freedom” as one of their goals in working for themselves. But often, I find that Advisors are burning out from being in the tornado of their business. Handling the most pressing matters that are popping up and working reactively instead of this vision they had of a proactive and strategic practice. In today's episode we flip the script and I am interviewed by my friend Matt Delzingaro, host of Coffee with Delzie. In this episode we dive into:Where do advisors start when it comes to creating systems and processes? What are the three SIMPLE solutions I suggest? What exercises does an Advisor need to do to really identify where and how to scale? This is a fun episode because we get into lots of detail. Matt does a great job interviewing and asking a lot of questions! And, I love getting into the nuts and bolts of building a scalable business that you run… instead of it running you. ---------------------------------LINKS FROM THIS EPISODE: Connect with Matt Delzingaro here on LinkedIn. Travis Crutcher is back. THIS time we're talking about Professional SPEAKING. More specifically… we're digging into 6 things we wish we'd known earlier… when it comes to getting paid to speak… and being a professional speaker. If you're a Dream Think Doer… there is a VERY good chance… you've got a message the world needs to hear!  Because you're taking time out of your week… to listen to stories and strategies that help you to dream bigger… think better… and do more.  You're investing in yourself.  And my guess is… you also want to see OTHERS dream bigger… think better and do more! That means… you've got a message to share.  You've got stories and strategies in you that need to get out… because they can help other people!  So let's get you some specific strategies to help make that happen! INFO ABOUT MITCH'S NEXT-LEVEL SPEAKER LIVE 2022! Click here: www.mitchmatthews.com/nextlevelspeaker to find out more about this LIVE 3-day event with Mitch.  If you've got a message in you the world needs to hear… if you've got a heart for speaking and it's time to get paid for that message… if you want to make a positive impact on the world and you know it's time to take it to the “Next Level” then join us! www.mitchmatthews.com/nextlevelspeaker RELATED EPISODES: Lisa Even from episode 366 attended last year's NEXT LEVEL SPEAKER and it was a game changer!  She's had incredible “Ripple Effect” ever since! From FREE to FEE: 5 Specific Strategies to help you become a PAID Speaker: mitchmatthews.com/332/  8 Tips to Get Over the FEAR of Public Speaking: mitchmatthews.com/076   MORE ABOUT TRAVIS CRUTCHER: Travis's Website: traviscrutcher.com Travis's Podcast: Above Average Podcast MORE ABOUT THE EPISODE: Now… some of you have NO interest in being a PAID professional speaker… because… maybe… you don't really like public speaking.  Heck… that's understandable… because studies show that more people are afraid of public speaking then they are of dying!  So yeah… if you bristle at the thought of being a speaker… let alone a PAID speaker… you're not alone. BUT… what if? What if you could get over that fear… and you could step in front of a group of people… and bless their socks off?  What if… the words you shared shifted people's lives?  What if… something you said inspired someone to make a change they've wanted to make or live more of the life they were meant to live?  What if? I think everyone can learn strategies to overcome fear… and then speak more effectively… and even have fun with it! But I also believe that some of you should get paid well to do that too! And THAT might be closer at hand than you might think! Heck… we've got a lot of listeners that are paid speakers… and if that's you… WELL DONE! BUT with today's episode… I wanted to get to brass tacks and give you even more to help you take your ideas and your abilities to speak to the next level… and… if you chose… to help you get PAID well as a speaker! To do that… I've enlisted my friend Travis Crutcher! I'm betting you remember Travis from episode 344… AND 352.  Travis is a Success Coach and Speaker who helps dynamic people get clarity, increase impact, and live a life they love!  Now… he also has a podcast called the Above Average Podcast… which he hosts with his amazing bride Jess… and they've gotten their show into the top 1% of all podcasts in a very short time!  He's a Retired Army Ranger and he spent some time in the corporate space as an executive too.  A few years ago… Travis joined Acceleration… my mastermind for coaches and speakers… and he launched his dream business and now he's killing it!  And a big part of that is being a PAID speaker… and he's getting paid well to speak to audiences and make a big impact! By the way… he's such a leader… and his business is growing like crazy… so he's now helping me to run Acceleration and I'm loving it! With this episode… we're diving into speaking and specifically 6 things we wish we'd known earlier when it comes to speaking and being PAID to be a speaker.  And we're going to talk about heart stuff… mental stuff… business strategy and life strategy and I think you're going to dig it!   Especially if you're wanting to make an impact on the world in some small or big way… and potentially get paid well to do it!   I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU: How about YOU!?  What stood out to you from this conversation? Also, let me know if you have questions (big or small) about being a speaker!  I want to hear from you!!! And PLEASE share this very fun/powerful episode with someone who YOU think would appreciate it and/or might be needing it… right now!  They'll thank you! Know I'm rooting for you! Sex Education may be even more than teens. Do you think think we ended up in a place where we think because we're mature or because we have experienced. We don't need the formal education. In todays episode Steve and Lena expose the specific things that they each do when they goals that help them follow through with unquestionable commitment. This episode is packed with specific strategies you can implement tomorrow to increase the likelihood of you becoming someone that smashes goals too! Often when people join a gym, they have made promises to themselves. They might have promised themselves that they are going to train 3 times a week. They are going to cook healthier meals and stop eating from the drive thru. They are going to wake up at 5am. These promises matter. Fulfill these promises and you are laying down the foundations for self confidence. When you do what you say you are going to do – your confidence begins to burn brighter. When you trust yourself, you honour your word, you are able to stand strong within your own certainty – you are undoubtedly going to start feeling pride in yourself as your self confidence grows. It is when we don’t follow through on the promises we make to ourselves we generate self doubt, disappointment, and we allow ourselves to repeat the negative thought patterns that hold us back from exploring our potential. These strategies will get you back on track & the insights Lena and Steve give into their mindset will motivate you to push harder TODAY!

KPI Golf's Casey Bourque and John Brown discuss the golf marketplace and how underperforming golf clubs can compete. The truth is that golf participation is down and common sentiment is that there are still more golf courses that need to come off the market to bring supply & demand equilibrium. Specific Strategies for Underperforming Golf Clubs John makes several fascinating suggestions for quick wins and operational improvements that will help underperforming golf clubs win. Profitable Food and Beverage - John feels strongly that a "break even" food and beverage operation is not good enough. Smart operators need to hire very carefully, deploy strong inventory tracking measures, and tap into the captive audience to drive positive cash flow out of this department. Strict Procurement and Buying Requirements - It's easy to just continue doing business with vendors who "treat you well" or with whom you've always done business. The problem is that they're likely not the most competitive option for your club. Although it's often hard, and usually met with resistance from staff, bidding out all major purchases and acquiring multiple offers on all major purchases brings huge upside on the expense side of the ledger. Referral-Based Marketing and Sales - John alludes to a KPI Golf's proprietary 85/50 Marketing Plan. It involves deploying every existing club member to consistently become the best sales tool possible for your club. He outlines how this program has literally saved the life of several clubs John has turned around in the past. Free Golf Lessons - KPI Golf believes strongly that golf lessons are the ultimate gateway drug for newcomers to the game, as well as a critical tool for retaining senior golfers longer. We believe that free golf lesson programs deployed for the purpose of marketing the club and bringing in new players is absolutely where clubs need to focus their attention.

Whew, this episode was much harder than I had anticipated. You’ve heard me coach my clients and members of the Speaking Your Brand community on this podcast. On-air coaching calls are some of the most popular episodes because we go deep and you get to hear what it’s like to be in a coaching session. After hearing Geraldine Carter be interviewed by Jodi Flynn on Geraldine’s podcast (flipping roles), I had the bright idea to have Geraldine interview me. (Both of these amazing women have been on this podcast: Geraldine in episode 36 and Jodi in episode 26.) Except I decided to go beyond a standard interview and asked Geraldine to coach me on “thinking bigger” for myself and for Speaking Your Brand (the name of her podcast is “She Thinks Big” and Geraldine is great at drawing that out of her guests and clients). Well, little did I know that by the end of the conversation, I would feel so incredibly raw and vulnerable. (I have a new-found appreciation for those of you who do on-air coaching calls!) It took a lot for me to record and release episode 92, where I deconstructed my TEDx talk from 2016 and talked about, for the first time, how I had messed it up. Now, you’ll hear in this episode: Your “why” may become clear after you start doing something Why it matters when women aren’t visible and don’t have a seat at the table What I see in the women I’ve had as clients - you may not recognize this about yourself either Where I get stuck when “thinking bigger” (you may do this too) How Geraldine gently nudges me out of my default process-driven mind and into my heart - and the a-ha moments that come from this Questions you can ask yourself to think bigger The clarity that happens when we go deep and have a guide/coach to help us   If you're in need of a business coach to help you think bigger about your business and plan strategically, I highly recommend scheduling a consult call with Geraldine: https://focusedbizcoaching.com/ Of course, if you're in need of a speaking coach to help you create your signature talk and achieve your speaking goals, schedule a call with me: https://www.speakingyourbrand.com/contact    About My Guest: Geraldine Carter coaches courageous changemakers who are ready take their business to the next level. Jodi is already an accomplished speaker and podcaster, and with this presentation she’s melding her core message for type A entrepreneurial women (hand raised!) with a podcasting topic for a more general audience. Listen in to see how she’s going about doing that. About My Guest: Jodi Flynn is the Founder of Women Taking the Lead, a podcast and community of ambitious entrepreneurial women who want to go BIG.
