What's really holding your learners back from absorbing the information they need? We've all been through training at some point that's either confusing or too broad, or perhaps the kind that puts you to sleep. The truth is that training and learning design are complicated. It's a balancing act between the learners themselves (how they learn, their interests and attention span), the designers (their desire to create engaging content), subject matter experts (who have the knowledge but aren't always the best teachers), and then the organization, which has its own goals to achieve. So where does learning design typically fall short? In this episode, we welcome Sara Sorenson, Product Enablement Manager at Muck Rack, and Tim Slade, Founder of The eLearning Designer's Academy, to explore the top mistakes they see in learning design, how we can get better at creating training, plus some things learners could do to help that information stick.Learning points from the episode include:00:00 - 02:45 Introduction to Sara and Tim 02:45 - 05:50 The biggest thing organizations are getting wrong about learning05:50 - 11:01 How should organizations use subject matter experts?11:01 - 14:29 Why sometimes organizations need processes, not training14:29 - 20:37 What are learners getting wrong20:37 - 25:20 Why learning at work is different to the learning experience in school or college 25:20 - 30:07 How can learning designers help learners feel okay about mistakes30:07 - 37:17 What else can we do to help learners achieve the ideal outcome37:17 - 38:13 OutroImportant links and mentions:Connect with Sara on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarasorensonid/Connect with Tim on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sladetim/Visit The eLearning Designer's Academy: https://elearningacademy.io/Subscribe to The eLearning Designer's Academy by Tim Slade: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2CE3YBPX53oeKVsiTbhX2w?sub_confirmation=1

What We Cover in This Episode: MuckRack's "State of AI in PR" report and key takeaways Why PR pros need to move beyond basic AI usage (like content and journalist research) Practical examples of how to use AI to save time, like creating campaign templates, summarizing research, or simplifying technical content The importance of staying ahead with AI to offer strategic counsel to clients How to address misconceptions about AI and demonstrate your own value as a professional in a tech-driven world Ethical considerations and creating responsible AI use policies Why You Should Listen: AI is here to stay, and PR professionals must not only adapt but also lead the conversation in how this technology influences communication. Whether you're already using AI in advanced ways or you're hesitant to try, this episode addresses the need to learn to integrate AI into your workflows effectively and responsibly. Episode Highlights: “What we're saying is to use AI to simplify repetitive tasks and preserve your expertise for what truly matters.” “AI isn't a vending machine. It's not magic. It's only as good as what you input, but it's a powerful assistant when used well.” “Helping clients craft AI use policies not only protects them but also establishes you as a forward-thinking, trusted advisor.” Key Points: In this episode, Karen and Michelle discuss the use of AI in public relations and communication practices. The key points are: The PR industry has been slow to adopt AI, focusing on limited use cases like content creation and journalist research, rather than exploring more efficient and strategic applications. AI can be a valuable tool for PR professionals, helping with repetitive tasks, research analysis, content writing, and developing campaign templates - freeing up time to focus on high-value, human-centric activities. There are ethical considerations around AI usage that PR professionals should be aware of and address, such as developing AI use policies and monitoring for potential misuse or negative impacts. Lauren Textor was my guest for Episode No. 127, and my mind is still reeling from everything that she has accomplished at such a young age.I have no real direct reason to be as proud of her as I am, but I am, nonetheless. “Let's build ESPN.com for strength, and convince everyone they can lift weights.” With this mission in mind, the first six months of building the BarBend platform were a blur for today's guest. By the end of the first year in 2016, they had had 1.4 million readers. By 2022, they had over 31 million registered users, allowing them to sell the business in 2023. In this conversation, we cover David Tao's take on the media landscape and how to build a profitable content-based business; raising a seed round of funding from friends and family after getting rejected from every venture pitch; the biggest mistake he made while experimenting with monetization strategies; and how he navigated a successful acquisition with a shared vision at the new parent company, Pillar4. More About David: David Thomas Tao is an entrepreneur and writer based in NYC. He's the co-founder and former CEO of BarBend.com, the world's premiere strength sports and strength training media platform. A proud Kentucky native, David is also a Forbes 30 Under 30 Listmaker, Kentucky Colonel, and a noted whiskey/spirits writer and judge, appearing yearly on national tasting panels. Me mostra! 5 práticas negativas no podcasting, segundo o ChatGPT 8. Conheça a Trovão Mídia, produtora do podcast Alexandre SOBRE LANÇAMENTOS: 12. Shure lança SM7dB XLR, nova versão do SM7B RECOMENDAÇÃO NACIONAL: 14. Data's role in public relations – is it the linchpin of modern-day PR or is it just a buzzword? Ever pondered how PR professionals can amalgamate data to weave unique narratives that enthrall audiences? Tune in for a riveting discussion with host Peter Woolfolk and Dr. Devin Knighton, APR, a distinguished assistant professor of public relations at Brigham Young University. We scrutinize the term "data-driven" and its usage in the PR industry, and delve into the likelihood of data washing – a phenomena where data is dismissed as a jargon rather than an indispensable tool. Using an extensive analysis of 150 articles from PR Week and data from Muck Rack, we aim to unveil the reality behind the buzz. Our conversation with Dr. Knighton doesn't stop at just evaluating the current landscape; we explore the future potential of data in PR. We underscore the importance of query formation and using data to shape strategies, and how university partnerships can be a cost-effective solution for robust data intelligence. The discussion takes an exciting turn as we explore the rise of AI in the PR world, its potential to assist with math-related tasks, and how it amplifies the importance of data-driven PR for organizations. So, hop on this journey with us and Dr. Knighton, as we explore the realm of data-driven PR, its significance, and the myriad possibilities it unfurls.Digital Trailblazer PodcastLearn how to build a legitimate, profitable online business from the ground up...Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify We proudly announce this podcast is now available on Amazon ALEXA. The history of money isn't just an Economics story, but it's a cultural and philosophical one, too. Felix Martin, a columnist for Reuters, charts this history in his book, Money: The Unauthorized Biography – From Coinage to Cryptocurrencies, and argues that money as a social institution has always been wielded as a political instrument. Felix and Greg discuss the determining factors of money's value, some of the key moments in the history of currency, and what could be done to improve modern financial banking systems.*unSILOed Podcast is produced by University FM.*Episode Quotes:Money as a credit relationship21:08: There is this great value in thinking about money as a credit relationship. And the real value is to think about two dimensions. One dimension is the creditworthiness of the issuer…[21:52] And another dimension I think conceptually, you can think of them as different. Some people like to think of them the same, but I think the difference is the liquidity question. Creditworthiness is about this bilateral relationship between you and the central bank. And then there's this question of how many other people in the network will accept this in payment of goods or services? And that's this sort of liquidity question. And, so these are two factors which are behind that. They're all subsumed under this (V) in the Fisher equation, but you can break them down a bit conceptually, I think, in terms of money as credit is useful to do that.Money is a social institution04:02: I believe that money is a social institution, a communal fiction, then a history of money is not a history of coins and notes and that kind of thing. It's an intellectual history. It's a history of these ideas and these institutions and where they come from. What is the whole point of banking?52:00: The whole point of banking and its historical origin is precisely the flexibility of the balance sheets of the banks. The whole way that the capitalist economy works, what is useful about banks and the reason they exist is precisely that they are able to expand and contract their balance sheets in line with the needs of trade.Theories around money are useful but contingent18:22: It's not that the Fisher equation or the quantity theory of money are not useful. All these theories of money are very useful for interpreting and predicting given points in time. But they are contingent.Show Links:Recommended Resources:Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah HarariJohn LockeThe Nature of Money by Geoffrey InghamWalter BagehotEcu de marcGuest Profile:Author Page at ReutersFelix Martin's WebsiteFelix Martin on LinkedInFeliz Martin on XHis Work:Money: The Unauthorized Biography – From Coinage to CryptocurrenciesArticles on Financial TimesArticles on Muck Rack
