She is most known for playing Penelope Garcia on the long running CBS crime drama Criminal Minds, for which she co-wrote 5 episodes, including the series finale. In 2020, Kirsten launched her YouTube series KIRSTEN'S AGENDA as a way to promote mental health, wellness and civic duty. Her first season featured such guests as Aisha Tyler, Pauley Perrette and Karen David. She enjoyed the interviews so much she decided to spin them off into the KIRSTEN'S AGENDA Podcast, available wherever podcasts live. Kirsten has long been deeply involved in the L.A. theatre scene, scoring two Ovation Best Actress nominations (for "FAT PIG" at the Geffen and "Everything You Touch" at Boston Court), LA Weekly Best Playwright of the Year nomination (For her Theatre of NOTE production of "Potential Space") and winning the Los Angeles Drama Circle Best Comedic Actress. In the summer of 2019, Kirsten took her one-woman show "Mess" (which Neil Gaiman has called his "favorite one person show") and her space romp, time travel, women in history, musical "Cleo, Theo and Wu" to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was greeted with 5 star reviews and sold out shows. She is the star and executive producer of the film noir spoof “Kill Me, Deadly” which can be found on many streaming platforms, she can currently be heard on season two of the comedy podcast “Voyage to the Stars” as well as a sometimes host of PRI's "Selected Shorts". In 2020, her animated short "Curtains" based on a short story she penned, was accepted in film festivals around the globe and she created a "Cleo, Theo and Wu" graphic novel with illustrator Kaitlin Bruder. She is the recipient of the HRC Visibility Award, the Open Fist Excellence in Arts Award and has been honored for her work with many charities including The Wildlife Learning Center, The Jacaranda Foundation, and The Unusual Suspects. Creativity is the ability to let your beautiful internal hologram radiate out into the world, but it's not easy. We're taking the most innocent, precious part of ourselves and airing it out at the risk of opinions, judgment and rejection.    There's power in taking radical responsibility for our experiences. There's significance in flipping every “no, but” into a “yes, and” and constantly choosing to find a beautiful point to every motion we make, whether life is charmed or not.    All of this is antithetical to reactivity, a state in which many people live. Sometimes it might feel good, but all we're getting are little spouts of dopamine, not the lasting wellspring of joy that comes from within.    In a world that's often at war with creative women, how do we stand in our own power? How do we commit to all the goodness our creativity generates?    In this episode, we're joined for a gorgeous conversation by playwright, actor, pursuant of wonder and president of the Katie Hendricks appreciation society, Kirsten Vangsness. We talk about the gift and responsibility of creativity and how she chooses to be, play and love.    Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode    - Build a lifelong loving relationship with youBeing a creative person means we take our essence and publish it out into the world. That act and risk of judgment can take us away from ourselves. How do we collapse the time it takes to return to ourselves?   - From “no, but” to “yes, and”…How do we get in touch with that part of ourselves that welcomes all possibilities, realities, and discoveries?   - Take radical responsibility for your experience In a world where people often take their brokenness out on others, how can we contextualize negative things without exposing ourselves to them?

The Eyes Have It - Kirk & Kirk

Have you ever stopped to think, really think, about which colours suit you best when buying your clothes, eyewear and accessories? We all have colours we love, but are these colours truly bringing out the best in us? What messages are we giving out when we choose to wear certain colours? Can wearing different colours make us come across, for example, as more credible, or more successful, or more confident, or more empathic, or more sensitive?Manina Weldon and Rachel Saunders run Red Leopard, and they believe passionately in the important of choosing and wearing the right colours. It goes without saying that Jason Kirk is just as passionate about colours, taking risks, being bold. And all this makes for a fascinating episode of The Eyes Have It, as Jason, Manina and Rachel look in depth and how we can all use colours to our advantage.Check out our other podcasts including, Jason Bell, Kwame Alexander, Morcheeba, Kirsten Vangsness, Alexandra Wood and The McCarricks. Before 'Criminal Minds,' most police procedurals focused on the "who" bit of "whodunit." But, when the Mandy Patinkin CBS series debuted in 2005, it was one of the first to ask not only "who," but "why." What resulted was a series that lasted over 300 episodes and 15 years — even if all of its cast didn't. Patinkin included, who called his two seasons on the show his "biggest mistake."You, like the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, might wonder... why? Our latest episode gets into it all, delving into the history and impact of 'Criminal Minds.' During the episode, we learn about Matthew Gray Gubler's surprising pre-'Criminal Minds' career, which gigantic series it actually beat in the ratings, and how Kirsten Vangsness lasted more than just the one episode she was cast for. Plus: 'Criminal Minds's 'Friends' tie-in, and Thomas Gibson's splash in a hot tub. So grab your private jets (wheels up in five, btw) and enjoy the story of 'Criminal Minds'!

Guest host Kirsten Vangsness presents three stories about hard choices.  In Jac Jemc's “Trivial Pursuit,” a husband and wife run the gamut of odd couples while trying to construct a social life.  Jordan Klepper kills it.  Renee Jessica Tan offers a thought-provoking response to racial stereotyping, and a great father/daughter story, in “Baghead,” performed by Karen Chee.  And a recent divorcee has nothing to lose in her “Spanish Winter.” But what does she have to gain? Melora Hardin performs this strong piece by Jennifer Egan. Join and give!: https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/symphonyspacenyc?code=Splashpage See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

iTalk movies is a long-form interview series featuring leading members of the film community. In this episode, our host Marisa Serafini interviews Kirsten Vangsness in studio about her most recent project, Kill Me, Deadly, on the Popcorn Talk Network. It's 1947, and hard-boiled private investigator Charlie Nickels' client is murdered and her priceless diamond stolen. The investigation forces him to do the one thing he vowed never to do again: trust a dame. Kill Me, Deadly is a film noir comedy with the feel and look of the classic noir of the 1940s. A love story with deceit, murder and double crosses, all told in glorious black and white. @ThePopcornTalk --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Learn more about your ad choices.
