Do you know Kim Kerley? In this episode, we get to know Kim Kerley. She is very special and she knows it!! Kim spent most of her teens homeless, but through sheer determination, she got herself through school and university and is now a teacher and school counsellor, as well as a stand up comedian. A keen observer of life's crazy conditions, her comedy comes from seeking the funny in real life. Kim has been performing stand-up comedy for over 20 years. She is based in San Antonio and has traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad. Kim also, acted with the comedy group, Laff Stock and Dramatic Diva Productions in the San Antonio area and has appeared in feature films with Mutt Productions. She has appeared on The View and The Mike Huckabee Show. Her Dry Bar Comedy special, Do you Know Her and has over 20 million views and it's also available as an album on Spotify. Kim's skills go beyond comedy as she helmed San Antonio's number 2 drive time morning radio show. The day after being told she was one of the fastest rising women on the radio, she was fired. The fall from radio fame and a paycheck had her seeking miracles for money for small things like food, mortgage payments and those teenage girls she was raising as a single mom. It was during this time so many miracles did come her way, and she began to document and eventually write about her journey, which has now branched out to public speaking and writing. Kim stays busy sharing her life and journey. She dares you to define the funny in life. “My wish is we can all find our sparkle.” Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/comickim/ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/23xcaQxQEmzgizS9npQpRa?si=16k_G07HTui1PakRKZKt3A Thanks for listening to Comedicine! Sixty-nine episodes in and John Magaro may be the best example of a Don't Know Her? actor... We had seen him in the likes of Orange Is the New Black (2015-2019), Carol (Todd Haynes, 2015) and The Big Short (Adam McKay, 2015) but hadn't properly noticed him until First Cow (Kelly Reichardt, 2019) and Past Lives (Celine Song, 2023). And wow! His soulful performances are the stuff of magic and we are still surprised how John (along with his co-stars Greta Lee and Teo Yoo) were not Oscar nominated for their work. Join us as we go to the start of John's career starring alongside Jodie Foster in The Brave One (Neil Jordan, 2007) and award-winning lead performance in Not Fade Away (David Chase, 2012) though to Past Lives. Welcome to Don't Know Her? and the first episode in a series focused on actors who are having significant career moments in 2022! We are kicking this off with this year's winner of Best Actress in a Leading Role at the BAFTAs, Joanna Scanlan. Joanna won for her tremendous work in After Love (Aleem Khan, 2020) which made us all the more excited to talk about her. As well as that gem, we dipped back into Joanna's filmography to discuss other significant entries in her film career including The Invisible Woman (Ralph Fiennes, 2013), Pin Cushion (Deborah Haywood, 2017), Notes On A Scandal (Richard Eyre, 2006) and Bridget Jones's Baby (Sharon Maguire, 2016). Michael then quizzes Scott on how well he knows his BAFTA-winning performers. And we round off the episode with some personal wishes for fantasy film roles we'd die to see Joanna take on... Welcome back and thank you for joining us for another episode of Don't Know Her? As we enter spooky season, we simply had to turn our attention to a Halloween favourite and Christina Ricci was one of the first that sprang to mind. We were delighted to also be accompanied by our special guest, Kate Conboy-Fischer to chat all things Christina. Forever seared into our heads as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family and Addams Family Values (Barry Sonnenfeld, 1991 and 1993), she has become a Halloween staple in many households. Couple this with her work in Casper (Brad Silberling, 1995) and Sleepy Hollow (Tim Burton, 1999) and you have all the spooky season delights you could need. Alongside some of these seasonal classics, we delve into some of Christina's other career highlights, such as Buffalo ‘66 (Vincent Gallo, 1998), Black Snake Moan (Craig Brewer, 2006), Mermaids (Richard Benjamin, 1990), Monster (Patty Jenkins, 2003), Penelope (Mark Palansky, 2006) and 10 Things We Should Do Before We Break Up (Galt Niederhoffer, 2020). This episode's quiz pits Kate against Michael as we determine who has the better ear for witches on film. There were also cackles galore. NOTE: This episode was recorded on the 3rd of October and mentions the iconic Angela Lansbury, in a celebration of one of cinema's greatest witches, ahead of her passing on the 11th of October. We were truly spoiled for choice in what to talk about for Christina, but we wish she was getting film opportunities as exciting as we got in the 90s and 00s, so the three of us submit some fantasy film roles we'd love to see in her future to wrap up the episode. Thank you for joining us for episode 37 of Don't Know Her?. As we continue our miniseries of beloved stars of the small screen, we couldn't skip the powerhouse that is Jean Smart. As we explore another TV icon we would have been remiss to not welcome back the wonderful Daniel Massie, who previously joined us for our Sarah Michelle Gellar episode. Jean can be enjoyed in many, many TV shows, from Frasier to Hacks most recently. With a lot of Emmys on her mantle, we cast our attention to her work on film and ponder why she hasn't gotten the same love from casting directors of the big screen. Throughout this episode you can hear us touch upon Guinevere (Audrey Wells, 1999), Garden State (Zach Braff, 2004), A Simple Favor (Paul Feigg, 2018) and Senior Moment (Giorgio Serafini, 2021). For this episode's quiz, it's Daniel vs Scott as Michael tests their knowledge of EGOT winners; the most elite collectors of gold and silverware. Following this, we each submit a fantasy role that we'd love to see Jean take on in the future. Please join us, enjoy this episode and follow us on social media to stay updated! Thank you for joining us for Don't Know Her?. To mark the upcoming Emmy awards, we're doing a miniseries on performers who have garnered a lot of attention for their TV roles yet somehow feel underappreciated when it comes to their big screen work. And we are kicking this off with the marvellous Jeffrey Wright. In the world of TV, Jeffrey is perhaps best known for his Emmy Winning turn in Mike Nichols' Angels In America (2003), an adaptation of Tony Kushner's celebrated stage play. He will also be known to many for his work on Westworld (2016-present) and Boardwalk Empire (2010-2014). In film, Jeffrey will be known to many for his supporting roles in the recent James Bond films, The Hunger Games series and The Batman (Matt Reeves, 2022). He has also been celebrated for his work in Basquiat (Julian Schnabel, 1996), Broken Flowers (Jim Jarmusch, 2005), and The French Dispatch (Wes Anderson, 2021). We discuss these roles, dream about his future roles and take a quiz - all to celebrate this wonderful actor. Please join us, enjoy this episode and follow us on social media to stay updated! Thank you for joining us for this birthday bonanza episode of Don't Know Her? as we celebrate Scott's big 3-0. As a special birthday treat, Scott got free rein to pick whoever he liked to discuss in this episode. Who did he choose? Only Annette Bening! Annette is a deservedly celebrated star of the silver screen and somebody we continue to want to see more dazzling performances from. With a back catalogue of roles as fabulous as her's is, it was hard to know where to start, but we decided to focus on a variety of her more memorable turns: American Beauty (Sam Mendes, 1999), 20th Century Women (Mike Mills, 2016), The Grifters (Stephen Frears, 1990), Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool (2017) and even the widely maligned remake of Hollywood classic The Women (Diane English, 2008). With these films, we were able to gush about personal favourites, reassess older favourites and, well, talk about The Women… Michael then tests Scott with a 30th birthday-inspired quiz before they offer up suggestions for some sequels, remakes and other future fantasy films they'd love to see our beloved Annette starring in. We are here again to bring you episode 33 of Don't Know Her? and this time we have an American treasure for you, with screen legend Margo Martindale. Margo will be a familiar face to many as she has carved out a career performing in many supporting roles throughout film and television - even garnering her the knowingly fun cameo role as ‘Character Actress Margo Martindale' in BoJack Horseman. On the big screen, she has seared herself into the minds of film fans having worked in many big hitters and indie gems, such as Oscar-winning Best Picture Million Dollar Baby (Clint Eastwood, 2004), Lorenzo's Oil (George Miller, 1992), August: Osage County (John Wells, 2013) and in Alexander Payne's touching segment of Paris, Je T'aime (2006). Elevating every film she stars in it was such a joy to revisit this selection for this episode. After our foray into the film career of Margo, we have a little quizzing fun, with Scott testing Michael on his Margo knowledge before seeking out to test how well he knows the glorious women of August: Osage County. Then to round off we share our wishes for the future career of Margo, suggesting some fantasy picks for sequels, remakes and other endeavours we'd just love from her. We are back again to bring you episode 32 of Don't Know Her? and for this edition of the podcast, we are buzzing to talk about the star, legend and icon - Diane Lane! Diane was a thrill to talk about as it meant an array of films for us to choose from, although there were some absolute musts in the mix. We could not pass up the opportunity to talk about her Oscar-nominated turn in Adrian Lyne's Unfaithful (2004) and Michael was dying to introduce Scott to his beloved Under The Tuscan Sun (Audrey Wells, 2003) - and he was certainly not disappointed to take that trip. We also take the time to chat about one of her many working ventures with director Francis Ford Coppola, The Cotton Club (1984), a film that seemed destined to derail her career, but thankfully did not. We also visited another couple of Diane's celebrated works A Walk On The Moon (Tony Goldwyn, 1999) and Let Him Go (Thomas Bezucha, 2020). Then it's time for everyone's favourite quiz and this time round Michael tests Scott on the music of ‘women on a journey' movies. We then glide into the future and suggest some of our picks for what roles we'd love to see Diane take on in the not too distant future. Then, it is Zita vs Scott in Michael's Hollywood Dynasties quiz. Who knows more about cinema's most revered families? Welcome back for more Don't Know Her? and this time around we are focussing on the favourite movie star of the Millennials, Brendan Fraser. The prospect of a Saturday night in with a bucket of popcorn and The Mummy films meant this was an easy choice for us to make. This episode also lines up neatly with some exciting incoming film work, as Brendan makes a splashy return to our screens in ventures with Martin Scorsese and Darren Aronofsky expected over the next year. We are fully sold on the Brendanaissance. Beyond our favourite Fraser/Weisz fun fest we dip into a handful of his other film outings, such as Airheads, No Sudden Move, Gods and Monsters, and the much-derided Oscar Best Picture-winning Crash. Scott then tests Michael on some musical moments from Brendan's co-stars in the quiz! Then it's eyes to the future as we add more wishes to his already exciting future slate. Let's hope the universe is listening. Enjoy this episode and if you haven't already please come join us on social media. Welcome back for another dose of Don't Know Her? and this week, we are focussing our first full episode on a Scottish performer! And is the wildly talented Kate Dickie. Kate may be familiar to many for popping up in some TV favourites like Game Of Thrones, but we want her to be celebrated much more for her terrific film work. This episode allows us to explore some types of film we haven't so far as we dive into a handful of her works and chat about Red Road, The Green Knight, The Witch, For Those In Peril, and Prevenge. Following this, Michael tests Scott's ear for Scots accents in our audio quiz. From there, we pose our wishes for Kate's hopefully fruitful future in film. Scott was particularly excited to celebrate a homeland hero, but Michael became a fully-fledged fan after this episode. Hopefully, you will be sold on Kate too. Enjoy this episode and then come find us on social media! In this episode of the Don't Know Her? podcast, we are celebrating 25 years of the almighty Titanic by talking about the wonderful Victor Garber. Beyond his turn as Mr. Andrews, the architect of the doomed ship, Victor has delighted us in a variety of other films - almost too many to count! We have chosen to talk about a handful of our favourites in this episode: the sleazy professor in Legally Blonde, Goldie Hawn's grotty ex in First Wives Club, the charming King in the 1997 Roger and Hammerstein's Cinderella, and a clown-mime-hippy version of Jesus Christ in Godspell. Michael then tests Scott in this week's quiz. Does he know Victor as much as he hopes? We then venture into the future and throw out some of our fantasy picks of future film roles for Victor. We do hope our Fairy Godmother (Whitney) will grant us these wishes. Enjoy this episode and if you haven't already please come join us on social media. In this episode of the Don't Know Her? podcast we are back to chat about another performer that we adore that also ought to have a lot more adoration and opportunities sent their way. This time we commemorate two special dates in the calendar with one extra-special actor to talk about; the luminous Ruth Negga. This Irish goddess lets us both celebrate St. Patrick's Day (on which date this episode drops) and mark the upcoming 94th Academy Awards ceremony. Why Ruth Negga to mark this year's Oscars we hear you ask….well let us tell you. We feel her mesmerising performance in Passing is comfortably the best not included on the ballots this year, so if the Oscars won't celebrate her, we will! Beyond Rebecca Hall's Passing, we also discuss the film that has garnered her an Oscar nom so far; Jeff Nichols' terrific Loving. Alongside these gems we dive into some other of the more significant entries in her filmography with Breakfast On Pluto, Ad Astra, and Iona. Following this we see Michael take on a quiz to test his Irishness before we cast our eyes to the future and dream of the film roles we'd love to see this wildly talented performer scoop up. In this episode of the Don't Know Her? podcast we are back to chat about another performer we feel deserving of a lot more recognition than they have received so far. This time we are delighted to be joined by a guest from all the way Down Under, it's James Kunovski - host of the Out of Oscar podcast - who has brought the delightful Patricia Clarkson to round off our miniseries focussing in on one-time Oscar Nominees Patricia will be a familiar face to many for her eclectic work in American indie cinema and for her award-winning supporting turns in TV shows like Sharp Objects and Six Feet Under. In this episode we focus on a few of her many film performances, including The Station Agent, Far From Heaven, Easy A, and her Oscar-nominated turn in Pieces of April. We even dip into her less celebrated work in the 2002 TV adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie, where she plays iconic literary/screen mother, Margaret White. In the quiz this time Michael pits James against Scott to establish who is the bigger fan of Ms. Clarkson. Following on from this we all make our suggestions for what we'd love to see from Patricia down the line. Will any of these choices get picked up for development - we certainly hope so. Loving her isn't just Hereditary, it is quite simply impossible not to. So we put ourselves In Her Shoes to talk about one of the most versatile film performers of all time. For the latest in our one-time Oscar nominees miniseries, we decided to put this one out to you all to pick who was up next and you voted for the incomparable Toni Collette. We start by journeying back to discuss the memorable roles of Toni, from her breakthrough turn in Australian comedy classic Muriel's Wedding; through to her heartbreaking work in The Sixth Sense; then right up to her most recent turn in Guillermo Del Toro's Nightmare Alley - without missing some other crucial stops along the way. Next up is Quiz time and this week it's Scott's turn to take on the questions. How will he fare? Then it's time to make our offerings to the Gods of female-centric cinema as we suggest some of our fantasy film roles for Toni. The Hours we spent with This iconic actress were such a joy and we had so much fun recording this episode. Now, sit back, relax and join us for our latest episode of Don't Know Her.
