"THE UNCIVILIZED MAN... Is Unapologetically Male. Dangerous but not a danger. Makes still his mind, makes savage his body. Knows his gifts grow in the garden of his wounds. Practices presence and performance. Honors the men before him, the women who bore him, and the children who will inherit his Earth. Has equal and easy access to his head, heart, and balls. Lives, by the rule — there are no rules — but there is responsibility. Loves fiercely, openly, and without reservation. Knows strength without love is tyranny. Knows love without strength is victimhood." These are the words you will find on the „about me“ page of the website „Man Uncivilized, created by the founder Traver Boehm. Traver is a man who knows men deeply. And much of the wisdom and insights he imparts to other men actually from his own lived experiences, particularly the breakdown moment that flipped his life upside down and catapulted him on his path of transformation. In a mere period of 24 hours, his wife and his business partner at the time both decided to go their separate ways – resulting in the loss of his marriage, business partnership, and business. Dumbstruck by what had happened, Traver knew the only way he could overcome this loss was by consciously moving through it. He created a program for himself called the "Year to Live Project," where he deliberately lived an entire year as if it was his last. And in that year among other things, he volunteered in hospice, spent 28 days in a dark room, and completed a one-month outdoor survival course. Eventually his own journey of growth led him to birth "Man Uncivilized" – one of the fastest-growing men's movements in the world where his mission is "to stop the unnecessary suffering in men in order to stop the suffering caused by men." I first became exposed to Traver's work three years ago when I read his book "Man Uncivilized." At the time, I was on a deep journey of self-discovery, exploring what it even means to be a man, but also how I could integrate the aspects of myself that I had locked away, such as my assertiveness, anger, grief, shame, and desires, among many other things. Traver's work has been absolutely pivotal for me in my own journey, and it was an honor to come full circle and invite Traver to "Heart of Man." As I see it, this conversation deeply lived up to the anticipation I had for it. We delved deeply into Traver's personal journey and extracted some of the deepest lessons, as well as what helped him move past rock bottom. And from there, we transitioned into our conversation around men and masculinity, diving into various areas such as moving through pain as men, relationships, and sexuality. This has been an absolutely powerful deep dive – and I can't wait for all of you to dive in. Simon Phillips is a drumming legend, whose played on hundreds of projects. His latest is a live show with keyboardist, Derek Sherinian, called Sherinian/Phillips Live. Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal plays guitars on the album, with Ric Fierabracci on bass. It's out now. You can order it here. We discussed drumming and even programmed drums, which Simon isn't crazy about. He said he's recorded on as many as 600 albums, including the Sin After Sin album from Judas Priest. He talked about doing it live, and piecing it together. He hadn't worked with the band up until that point. He told me how he got involved on that record. He told me why we he never stuck with one band, but chose to work on many different projects. "What I loved about playing sessions, was everyday I'd be playing something new." He said he got bored playing the same thing gig after gig. "I love the art of making records." Simon spoke to making this live album. They played two sets, and he picked what he thought was the best to create the record. Bumblefoot gave me a question about paper vs. ceramic mugs for Simon's coffee, which was pretty funny. Simon also speaks to how good Bumblefoot's playing is. Fun interview, another first time conversation for me. -Meltdown-

This conversation is hands-down one of my favourites to date on this podcast. We're speaking with Traver Boehm, an author of two books, 2 time TEDx Speaker, men's coach and founder of the UNcivilized Men's Movement, which is radically redefining the way men around the globe experience their masculinity by uniquely blending both primal elements of manhood with massive doses of consciousness. In 2016 after losing a pregnancy, his marriage, and his business partnership all within weeks of each other, he created a radical social experiment and spent the next 12 months as if it were his last year to live, aptly naming it “The Year to Live Project.” Now men all over the world have deemed themselves UNcivilized as they wake up to meditate, feel into their hearts, and train their bodies. Men who can fight, fuck, feed, and feel. And do all four well. In this episode, we're talking about: How men show up in relationships and the biggest reason why women end relationships (outside of abuse) and how men can cultivate a superpower to make the feminine feel safe in unexpected ways The powerful message Traver has for men everywhere and how he's looking to change the entire culture and spread his message, along with addressing where men need to take responsibility for their own emotional health Men's mental health, and the mountain of male trauma that often goes unaddressed as males have so much less social support than women and a suicide rate that is 3X higher Traver's take on one of the biggest reasons why he believes mass shootings end up happening and what to do about it. This week we're going to talk about your dreams. Now we've talked a lot about the importance and power of getting a good night's rest, and the act of dreaming is a product of REM sleep which, in turn, gives the brain time to heal. So in this sense, dreaming is good. But as interesting as the encounter between you and a giant penguin dressed as your high school principal might be, we're not talking about those sorts of dreams this week. Instead, I'm joined in the studio this week by Digital Marketing & Business Consultant, Two Time TEDx Speaker, and Writer, Jacqueline Boone.Fluent in English, Spanish, and Mandarin, she has worked and taught on multiple continents for over two decades. And for the purpose of this conversation, she is also the Founder of The Dream Academy, an online education hub for both new and seasoned entrepreneurs, as well as the Six Months to Live Project. Jacqueline and I discuss the misconceptions around day-dreaming, the need for leaders to give their people the space to dream - even if it means losing them, and why so many of us stop dreaming in the first place. I know dreaming sounds like an idle task, but I promise this conversation is anything but stationary. Enjoy the show!Jacqueline's TED Talk on Dreamers the DoJacqueline's TED Talk on World Peace
The show returns, and in this episode Mark Winship talks to Gill and Darren Green, to tell us all about their latest commercial investment project - everything from they raised the necessary finance and the strategies involved, to how the project progressed from the start. KEY TAKEAWAYS Choosing the correct area is essential, especially when it comes to commercial development. It's about identifying a need and supplying a commercial solution for that area. One of the defining characteristics that all property developers need to embrace is the ability to adapt to any challenge. A background in residential development is not necessary when it comes to commercial, but it can help. The various strategies involved can be similar, such as buy-to-let. It's always worth working on the installation of essential services from the very beginning of the deal, instead of waiting till near completion. Time scales and estimates can sometimes take much longer than you think. BEST MOMENTS 'We felt there was a growing market for small office space' 'We've got a passion for it!' This week, Realcomm Live welcomes founding members of Project Haystack, John Petze and Marc Petock, to discuss where the industry is today with smart building data standards for applications such as automation, control, energy, HVAC, lighting, and other environmental systems, as well as the importance of data interoperability.
Today's guest is so special and rapidly becoming one of my favourite humans. We're talking to Traver Boehm again today, originally featured for an epic conversation back on episode 266 - a personal favourite and one of the most powerful episodes on the entire Room To Grow™ Podcast. Never have I received an outpouring of so much incredible feedback about a guest episode, and ever since we mentioned back on episode 266 that we would record a second one, I've had DMs and text messages demanding to know when the new one was being released. As you can tell by the title, this is another casual chat about some super light topics, ha! This conversation will leave you better than before you started listening, if you allow it. It will challenge you to think differently, to see the world through a different lens, and to question the way you show up. It may or may not also be the first time a guest and I have BOTH cried on an episode, so you know it must be a good one. Traver Boehm is an author of two books, 2 time TEDx Speaker, men's coach and founder of the UNcivilized Men's Movement, which is radically redefining the way men around the globe experience their masculinity by uniquely blending both primal elements of manhood with massive doses of consciousness. Drawing upon an eclectic background ranging from professional bodyguarding and Mixed Martial Arts to Traditional Chinese Medicine and meditation, Traver also teaches people to skillfully use the inevitable pain of their lives as fuel for growth and positive change. In 2016 after losing a pregnancy, his marriage, and his business partnership all within weeks of each other, he created a radical social experiment and spent the next 12 months as if it were his last year to live, aptly naming it “The Year to Live Project.” A few topics we cover today: How to have conversations with people that can be highly triggering as you step onto your own path, and embark on your own journey that may likely go against the grain for many others around you The unique challenges that can come with those conversations, including the likelihood of losing a lot of relationships too Why you have to keep showing up with courage every single day if you're going to get to where you're going, whatever that might look like for you AND to hang on to the little moments that will continue to propel you forward even when everything else might feel dark. And so much more…. If you're a human, this is not an episode to be missed. Traver has a powerful mission around what it means to be a man, and this is a topic that affects all of us, no matter how you identify. I urge you to check out Traver's work. His fantastic podcast, both of his books, men's group and the various exciting projects he's always juggling at any given time are transformative, and more people need to know about him. Buckle up, tune in, and then go connect with Traver. Community symphonies are designed to make music accessible, engage the public and maybe even spark a lifelong love of music. That's at the heart of the Imagine Symphony Live film and music education project. The composer of the film's music Chris Thomas recently won a big industry award for the score. Both he and the Imagine Symphony Live creator Evan Sigvallsen play cello in the Central Oregon Symphony, and their whole project, like symphony performances, are free to the public. We talk with Thomas and Sigvallsen about their music and how they hope it will be enjoyed and used to enrich children's lives.

After publishing Today I Rise and receiving an influx of calls specifically from men, Traver began guiding men through their own journey into an actualized version of masculinity by asking them these two questions: “Are you leading or being led?” And, “What are you wounds and what are you doing to heal them?”. When so many said this way of thinking and living was counterintuitive to how they were taught “civilized” men should act, the movement was born. Now men all over the world have deemed themselves UNcivilized as they wake up to meditate, feel into their hearts, and train their bodies. Men who can fight, fuck, feed, and feel. And do all four well. With a passion for people and a unique lens through which to view the human experience, Traver is a highly sought-after transformational coach in the fields of consciousness, relationship, and personal development. Some topics we cover in this conversation include: Why we fear hitting rock bottom Why we're wired to seek comfort vs. seek change How challenging situations allow us to become a new version of ourselves Why we are inclined to hit rock bottom before we make change The roles that denial & ego play in avoiding painful situations The power of choice How we get in our own way of going after the things we want in our lives How we create narratives for ourselves that unknowingly limit us Why we prefer to play the victim vs our own hero
Today’s episode is a bit different. My guest is Traver Boehm. And also I’m his guest. Traver and I are colleagues and (internet) friends with a deep respect for each other and each other’s work. When Traver asked me to appear on his podcast, I responded with ‘of course’ and then “I’d like to have you on mine too. He initially responded “Of course” to then reflect and suggest “Why don’t we simply do a two-way conversation and both publish it instead of doing one interview then changing and going again?” Efficiency - I like it - so I agreed and here we are. I suggested we explore a question that I was posed by one of my listeners, friend and former clients, the everyday legend Dana. Dana shared a curious and thoughtful question that speaks to his thoughtfulness. That was: “During these times of global hardship, how should we as men best show up in our local community/friend circles/workplaces to demonstrate cohesive leadership, encourage calm rational behaviour, be inclusive, protect what we cherish and instil a sense of hope to move forward in a positive way?“ Yeah, just a small topic :-) But something that Traver and I felt up to exploring, because, if two guys leading other men and creating communities of men can’t address a question like this, who will? That’s a big chunk of what we explore in this episode and all of the nuance around it. It brings to mind a term for me which features in my coaching academy and I spoke about in the first episode of this podcast, for what I think the everyday legend is - ‘Zeus Energy’ an ancient Greek term that was described as ‘Male authority accepted for the sake of the community’. I also put to Traver the idea of a ‘Compassion Revolution’. Keep an ear out for that part later on in the episode. We did our best to keep this a flowing two-way conversation with your ears in mind. I trust you will get something from this conversation. Please share it with someone you think would enjoy, benefit from, and potentially be lovingly challenged by its content. And my request of you - to leave me a 5-star rating a review on Apple. More on Traver: Traver Boehm is the author of Today I Rise, and Man UNcivilized. Vulnerability without strength is fucking chaos. Build foundations within, THEN, open your heart. Strength + vulnerability = Open hearted freedom. Today's guest Traver Boehm is the author of Today I Rise, a TEDx speaker and men's coach, currently practicing intentional nomadism. He is the founder of the Man Uncivilized Movement, redefining the way men around the globe experience their masculinity, and teaches people to skillfully use the inevitable pain of their lives as fuel for growth and positive change. We cover so much in this episode, from reaching deep into the darkest moment of Traver's personal life where he found himself losing everything, to Traver's “The Year to Live Project” that would eventually see him on a 28 day social experiment living in complete darkness and isolation in Guatemala. Traver is as real and honest as they come, and we dive into one my favourite topics, vulnerability, and how combining the Primal Masculine and the Divine is radically shifting the way men experience their masculinity. Because in his words, Men need both, women need men to have both, and the planet needs this more than we do. Traver's story, strength and his hunger to get deeply acquainted with what it means to go beyond everything you know to be true about life is infectious, and I could have chatted with him all day. If you've ever contemplated on what you would do if this was your last year alive and feel the pull to test your own limitations, this episode is for you! Dive in to hear more on: How honesty is the new vulnerably Learning how to be vulnerable in a healthy way, as opposed to a destructive way Learning what it is to die and be free How our pain can be our guru The power of pushing beyond your edge and coming back to life How to be honest in your voice and actions Cultivating energy and driving into the direction of love and creativity Sexual energy and its ability to manifest How to own your manhood and mature masculine How to hold space for your partner and not get triggered How to feel into the feminine sensuality and use that for purpose and enhancing relationships Dying and understanding your insignificance in order to really live Leaking energy by fantasizing, and how using stimulants and other distractions can destroy your life and relationships When you are strong, you can hold space for yourself even when falling apart because you allow yourself too. You are strong in your unconditional love. Be sure to tune in right to the end where I challenge Traver to 90 days of something very very difficult!
This episode's guest is Traver Boehm. I first came across Traver on the Man Talks podcast and was enthralled with his conversation. Traver has always felt the call of adventure, whether that is surfing big waves, climbing mountains, or fighting in a cage. Every life has its ups and downs and Traver's was no different. He got to a point where he admits he thought he had it all, the wife, the business, the dog. All of a sudden Traver's life changed. He was overcome with pain. It was time to sit with this pain and find out who he really was. Traver had the option of getting back onto the conventional path, or taking the path of outlandish adventure. No prizes for picking which one he chose. Today's conversation is shaped around his beginnings, the trauma he went through, discovering himself and humanity through his Year to Live Project, and becoming One Day Stronger. The conversation covers; +Moving to Japan, growing up in a different culture, then the challenges of returning to the states +Looking for something more and seeking adventure +Finding out that it was all that he had dreamed of, but that he wasn't + Becoming comfortable in his own skin, and being happy with himself +The pain of loss and why you should embrace it + Understanding what hindsight is + Having wildness in his life + Eliminating distractions + Taking the opportunity when it arises rather than looking back in 10 years wondering what if? + Volunteering in hospice + Living in a pitch black room for 28 days + Doing what you need to do to be at peace +And as always becoming OK with being uncomfortable Oh and in case you didn't realise there is some explicit content in the episode Guest: Traver Boehm One Day Stronger Traver Instagram One Day Stronger Facebook TEDx talk Host: Chris Desmond UIOK Instagram UIOK Facebook Twitter Support the show on Patreon Music: Jeremy Desmond
Traver Boehm. Traver is a CrossFit Gym owner, MMA fighter, bodyguard, surfer, acupuncturist, writer, and speaker. He has lived in the Utah wilderness for a month, lived out of his truck, spent 28 days straight in complete darkness and solitude as part of his Year to Live Project.
This is a unique episode because we're turning the tables on Traver as he becomes the subject of the episode. This episode is also going to require that you keep an open mind. But more on that later. Almost a year ago to the day of this release, I came to Traver with the idea […]
