Solénoïde (06.05.2024) - Bienvenue à bord de cette nouvelle Virée Afrodisiaque, une invitation à l'évasion sonore au cœur du berceau de l'humanité ! Cette semaine, Solénoïde vous emmène à travers un patchwork musical riche en couleurs et en diversité, mêlant traditions ancestrales et influences contemporaines. Au programme de cette émission, une dizaine de cartes postales sonores vous plongera au cœur des paysages musicaux les plus fertiles du continent africain. Des montagnes marocaines aux contrées sahariennes, des ambiances tropicales du sud du Congo aux climats désertiques, laissez-vous emporter par des artistes natifs ou issus de la diaspora, imprégnés des rythmes et des traditions de leur terre natale.

Maurice Louca is an Egyptian musician and composer whose been commissioned for new work for "Shifting Center," the upcoming exhibition at EMPAC. Louca's work often engages microtonality. He spoke with Sina Basila Hickey for Hudson Mohawk Magazine about his plans for the installation, influences in his work, location-based work. "Shifting Center" will be at EMPAC from November 3–18, 2023. Prior to the exhibition opening, Beatriz Cortez's sculpture "Ilopango, the Volcano that Left" departs Storm King Art Center, the site of its current exhibition, to embark on a three-day performative journey along the Hudson River to Troy. The volcano can be witnessed as it sails upriver from various viewing points on both shores and online through a livestream. There will be a welcoming reception at the Sanctuary on October 28.

Zo vervaagt bij het Tania Giannouli Trio de grens tussen de ud en de piano, en die tussen dansvloer en jazzclub bij de splinternieuwe single van jazzvernieuwers STUFF.. De genre-grenzeloze gitarist Reinier Baas besloot juist zichzelf bewust een beperking op te leggen: elk idee mag maar 1 minuut duren. Hij maakt er een heel album vol mee.... Maar het meest centraal staat de grens tussen 'oost' en 'west'. Want hoewel veel muziek uit het Midden-Oosten raakvlakken heeft met jazz (improvisatie!), zijn er ook barrières te overwinnen. Paris-Alexandrie reçoit aujourd’hui trois musiciens hors pairs : Tamer Abu Ghazaleh, Maurice Louca et Maryam Saleh.
