With growing campus protests against the U.S. backing Netanyahu's genocidal war to cling to power and the Democratic National Convention returning to Chicago this summer, it's hard not to think of 1968. As this week's guest, Ari Berman of Mother Jones, explains, the Founding Fathers of America set us up for cycles of fascism vs. democracy, cynicism vs. idealism. It's important to be aware of how social movements can be hijacked and weaponized. For that, read the essential 2017 piece in The Guardian by Micah White, a co-founder of Occupy Wall Street, on how Russia tried to co-opt him. While there's a long history of the Left being weaponized by foreign adversaries, as the film Mr. Jones reminds us, the magnitude of campus protests across America is a morally clear line, like the Vietnam War and Iraq War protests before them. As we head into the spring of the most important year for America, one where democracy must prevail, it's important to take time to reflect on radical self-care. As empathy becomes the growing demand of our collective, activism must include self-care, one of the most important acts of resistance, as Angela Davis in our opening clip reminds us. This week's bonus show reflects on that and urges our listeners to reach out to an old friend to reconnect and re-energize. You will be glad you did, as we get closer to the ticking clock of November 5th. In this week's bonus show, Ari Berman of Mother Jones, author of the must-read book Minority Rule, joins the long list of guests to take the Gaslit Nation Self-Care Q&A, producing some surprising answers and a rallying call, for Ari, along the way. Join the conversation with a community of listeners at Patreon.com/Gaslit and get bonus shows, all episodes ad free, submit questions to our regular Q&As, get exclusive invites to live events, and more! Today’s Services That Sell student spotlight episode features the fabulous Micah Nicole, one of the first contractors I ever hired in my own business and it’s been a privilege to be able to watch her elevate her price points and do some amazing work with some of the most influential course creators and coaching program facilitators in our industry. Micah is obsessed with elevating the way female founders market, launch, and deliver their high-ticket coaching program. She passionately specializes in high-end, automated launch funnels, and organic visibility strategies for experts who crave serious and organic automated growth. Micah is a millionaire in the making, and in this episode, she gives a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how she’s been able to niche down and carve out her own lane in a saturated market to enroll eight thousand dollar clients into her program. Key Highlights of the Episode This episode was extremely actionable and insightful. Here are a few key highlights: Igniting the spark - While Micah was landing some four-figure clients with web design, it wasn’t making her happy. Taking a step back and figuring out what she was passionate about ignited the spark and led her to launch her signature service and achieve success. Do your market research - Micah was initially hesitant to set a high price tag. One way she overcame her money mindset was to look at competitors in the market. She realized they were charging four-figures for less robust services than what she was able to provide. Be efficient - Micah doesn’t like to do more work than she has to. This efficient approach allows her to hone in on the work that’s needed to get the optimal results for herself and her clients. Document your process - Micah understands that her audience’s needs don’t change. She has a clearly defined and efficient process to follow which allows some room to customize where necessary. Work out your “discipline muscle” - To achieve success in business, Micah recommends working out and getting it together in your personal life. Every time she works out she’s training her “discipline muscle” which transfers over to business. And lots more! Tune in now. This episode is brought to you by LEVERAGE: Today’s episode is brought to you by my group coaching program LEVERAGE. Parents, Priests and Generals - A Guide for How to Change the World for Good
In a December 2014 interview with Esquire, Micah White, one of the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) founders said, “My thinking is moving away from protest. Instead, I’m more interested with…getting large numbers of people to change their behaviors, to de-pattern themselves…” He realized what he had been doing wasn’t working. For any of our activism to bring into effect the hoped for ideal of long-term systemic change, it would have to follow the lead of the likes of women’s suffrage. It would go beyond making ourselves feel better in the short-term and aim for changing the character of our imagined enemies. Martin Luther King calls this the double victory: “To our most bitter opponents we say: ‘We shall match your capacity to inflict suffering by our capacity to endure suffering. We shall meet your physical force with soul force. Do to us what you will, and we shall continue to love you… Throw us in jail and we shall still love you. Bomb our homes and threaten our children, and we shall still love you. Send your hooded perpetrators of violence into our community at the midnight hour and beat us and leave us half dead, and we shall still love you. But be ye assured that we will wear you down by our capacity to suffer. One day we shall win freedom but not only for ourselves. We shall so appeal to your heart and conscience that we shall win you in the process and our victory will be a double victory.’” parentspriestsgenerals.com --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dano-jukanovich/support

While many associate RPA, or robotic process automation, with assembly lines and warehouses, the reality is it’s quickly proving it’s capability in developing elearning content. However, just because something can be done doesn’t necessarily mean it it should. In this episode, I talk with Micah White from CGS to explore how they’re experimenting with RPA for elearning content development and finding it to be effective in speeding up the process and improving efficiency along the way. However, it’s not without risk, and we talk about what considerations organizations should take before jumping in. We also address what this means for individuals who have committed their careers to elearning development and how their roles might change as a result. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/learningtechtalks/support

Micah “Bam-Bamm” White joins Todd B. Waldo for a conversation about family, fatherhood, faith and how he is still figuring out how to use his passion and gifts to make a difference in his family and community. Micah White has spent over 20 years in the entertainment industry as a stand-up comedian, host, and philanthropist. He has performed in four countries, and in over 80 U.S. cities in 30 states. The go-to guy for corporate comedy and hosting, White’s talents have led him to perform for 40 corporations, 30 non-profit organizations, and 20 colleges doing everything from stand-up to hosting and delivering the commencement address. He’s gone on tour with Gary Owen, has hosted and performed aboard the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage, and has appeared in Denzel Washington’s “Unstoppable” and the Lifetime network’s “Army Wives.” White is also the Founder of RVA Has Talent, which creates collaborations between local artists and non-profits in the Greater Richmond community. From that, he’s developed an initiative that allows inmates at the Richmond City Jail to hone creative abilities and equips them with tools for gainful employment after incarceration. The crisis of our time People have very little political power beyond voting on election day. Current governing structures are incapable of changing the world and solving the big problems that we face, such as the climate crisis. The solution is to form a social movement – perhaps through revolution – that can make good decisions and achieve its goals, such as win elections, take sovereignty, and maintain power. A notable example is the Five Star Movement in Italy, which directs policy and takes control away from elected representatives when they violate the core principles of the movement. The limitations of contemporary protest Occupy Wall Street did not achieve its goals of ending the power of money over our democracies or give more power to the 99 percent. However, it did reveal that both the strategy of street protest as well as the way of protesting are broken. In addition, current activist culture is producing consensus-driven activism that is looking for incremental change and reform within the existing system. A true activist used to be someone who stands outside of the status quo and is not afraid to go against a movement’s consensus. The nature of social change A strong theory about how social change comes to fruition revolves around structural forces beyond human direct participation, like an economic crisis. This argues that it’s the combination of the crisis and people in the streets that achieves change. Two more ways of thinking about effecting change are subjectivism and theurgism. Subjectivism believes that change is a process that happens within us. When we change the way we are, then we transform how we see the world. Theurgism believes that social change and revolution are a process of divine intervention, by forces that are completely outside of our control. Somehow, I even ended up recording with someone he sent my way (Evan Kaufman) before I actually recorded with him! Finally, we made it work, and we probably could have talked all night.I can definitely sense a difference in these conversations when they are done with other people who talk with people on a podcast. I think that became instantly obvious with Michael and me, as we were kind of all over the place from the moment we started recording. To say Michael's stories were unique would be a massive understatement. The story he tells about when his Dad nearly died some years ago had me in complete disbelief. Talk about events with truly amazing timing. You will want to hear him tell that story. L&D—learning and development—is moving to the forefront for HR managers, not just for the importance of developing skills, but to maintain engagement and retention of employees who demand to stay up with new developments in their fields. Of course, there are new developments in L&D as well, and one of the most challenging today is the fact that the consumers of our training increasingly want to access it through their smartphones. Here we’ve finally perfected our interactive, PowerPoint, and video skills for the big screen and now we have to accomplish the same task with a screen 2 inches wide. Fortunately, our guest on the latest episode of HR Works: The Podcast for Human Resources, Micah White, can help. Micah is the director of research and development for CGS Enterprise Learning, an award-winning provider of corporate learning solutions. He joins us in our series of podcasts being recorded live at BLR's Workforce L&D conference in Las Vegas where he presented on the topic of mobile design considerations to satisfy mircolearning objectives.

On Thursday, March 17, Micah White, one of the most influential young thinkers today, visited the Appel Salon to talk about his book, The End of Protest: A New Playbook for Revolution. With Now Magazine's Susan G. Cole.
The Occupy movement of 2011 was one of the most successful activist actions of the last few decades. It changed the discourse, raised the issue of income inequality world-wide, and it galvanized a new generation of activists. But its co-founder, Micah White, considers Occupy a 'constructive failure', but one that that has lessons that activists - including those of us in the environmental movement - can learn from. With Micah we talk about the story behind how Occupy Wall Street started, the future of protest, and how activists can bring about the social change that our world so badly needs.
Micah White is the award-winning activist who takes credit for starting Occupy Wall Street, a global social movement. His new book The End Of Protest A New Playbook For Revolution says activism is broken. Plus the handicap parking protest, and are you a people pleaser. Liz and Mark protest it all.
Are we living in a post-revolutionary age? From the Arab Spring uprisings in the Middle East to Occupy Wall Street movement in the West, mass social movements have failed spectacularly in recent years to achieve meaningful and lasting social change. Author and activist Micah White thinks mass movements today are fundamentally misunderstanding the task before them. Success isn't getting tens of thousands of people out in the public square in non-violent protest. Instead it is it creating a mass global movement that a seize the machinery of government peacefully through the ballot box. Only then is real social change a possibility in our time.
