What to listen for:"If you are not doing search and rescue for the right reasons, you need to look in the mirror. Because it is not about you, and it's not about your dog."Today, our hosts, Stacy Barnett and Robin Greubel, have set the dogs aside (mostly!) to talk about something that affects every handler who has ever posted a training video, shown up to a webinar, or scrolled too far down a comment thread. They're calling it the “toxicity tax,” and they've come to argue it's being paid at every level of the canine world, from nose work titling to search and rescue callouts. The online world, particularly on social media, strips away tone, facial expression, and social consequence, leaving text that people read with whatever emotional state they're already carrying.Robin references the book Don't Feed the Elephants! when she explains that “Avoidaphants” are everywhere in teams that have never sat down to agree on how they want to communicate.Stacy offers sport as a mirror for SAR. The moment you start watching other dogs instead of your own, you've already lost the run. Comparing your dog's time, your team's reputation, your cert against someone else's is a fast road to a distracted, ineffective search. The mission has to be bigger than the handler.Robin and Stacy agree that training is not a recipe. Dogs are individuals, methodology debates serve nobody, and a perfect run every time is evidence of stagnation. What serves the dog, and the missing person, is efficient, effective teamwork built inside a culture that gives grace when the wheels come off. Key Topics:●      Why We Eat Our Own: Social Media in the Canine Community (02:40)●      Staying Humble, Hungry, and Smart (08:32)●      Why Watching Other Dogs Costs You Your Own (15:29)●      Posting Mistakes: Safe Groups vs. the Public Feed (24:25)●      Principles Over Methodology (32:59)●      Constructive Feedback vs. Criticism (37:28)●      Coaching Someone Who's a Hot Mess (41:49)●      Protecting the Volunteer Pipeline (46:30) Resources:·      Don't Feed the Elephants: Overcoming the Art of Avoidance to Build Powerful Partnerships https://amzn.to/4wFYFlk (affiliate link)·      Be the Ideal Team Player: How to Recognize and Cultivate The Three Essential Virtues https://amzn.to/4tJq8jq (affiliate link)We want to hear from you:Check out the K9 Detection Collaborative FB page and comment on the episode post!K9Sensus Detection Dog Trainer AcademyK9Sensus Foundation can be found on Facebook and Instagram. Walnut Grove thought it survived Nellie Oleson… but surprise! Chaos has entered the chat in the form of Nancy—arguably less “reincarnation” and more “escalation.”In Part 2 of "The Reincarnation of Nellie", Nancy fully settles into her role as the new Oleson nightmare, and wow, she does not ease into it. We go from bratty to deeply concerning at record speed. This is the episode where the writers said, “What if Nellie… but with zero conscience?” Nancy lies, manipulates, and—just casually—attempts murder. Truly a bold character choice for a child on a prairie.Meanwhile, Harriet is absolutely thriving, because to her, this is just Nellie 2.0: bigger, louder, and somehow even more committed to being terrible. Nels, as always, looks like a man silently begging for a long walk out of town. Neither of them know they are being played by a ridiculously manipulative Nancy, whose catch phrase "they hate me" is in full swing. But Willie, Albert and Laura know the truth. And after some very questionable choices as their teacher (Where are the HIPPA rules?!), they are going to do something about it (can we say, Public Shaming?)Which brings us to our "learning moment" where Nancy finally faces some consequences. Not to mention, Nancy's grand finale look: the mermaid costume. Because nothing says “I may have just tried to kill someone” like showing up dressed as an aquatic fantasy. It's iconic. It's unhinged. It's Little House at its most chaotic. In short: Nellie walked so Nancy could run… straight into villain territory. Then, join us on Patreon where we discuss the different reincarnations of Nellie--from the books, to the tv show, to the musical, and now to the new Netflix series where they are currently casting! Michelle Obama spoke about a very specific kind of reality check on the Call Her Daddy podcast: the exact moment you realise you’re no longer the main character in your child’s life. Monz is feeling this deeply and Amelia and Stacey unpack precisely why it hits so hard. Plus, a viral video of an airport lounge meltdown has us asking whether we've lost the ability to handle conflict without reaching for our phone. We dive into the rise of "public shaming" and whether we’re all just one bad day away from being filmed giving someone the finger. And, move over “rawdogging boredom”, is “slow vacuuming” the new mindfulness trend? Monz is deep into this one but Amelia and Stacey remain firmly unconvinced. Our Recommendations:

Exposure and Public Shaming as Conflict Management Tools: A Critical AnalysisIn this back episode from the High Conflict Institute podcast, Bill Eddy and Megan Hunter tackle a challenging question that many face when dealing with difficult workplace situations: Is exposing someone's problematic behavior an effective strategy for creating change? While the impulse to "name and shame" may feel justified, especially when facing reputation damage or distortion campaigns, the hosts explore why this approach often backfires with high conflict personalities. When dealing with individuals who demonstrate high conflict behavior patterns, the threat of exposure frequently escalates rather than resolves situations. The hosts examine how cluster B personality traits like being domineering, vindictive and intrusive can make public confrontation particularly counterproductive.Key Questions Addressed:Does exposing problematic behavior lead to meaningful change? When might the threat of exposure be strategically useful? How should organizations balance accountability with escalation risks?Core Strategic Insights:Private criticism tends to be more effective than public shamingSkills-based coaching offers better outcomes than humiliationNatural consequences work better than intentional exposureThrough examining both legal precedents and business case studies, the hosts demonstrate why investing in skill development and structured interventions often proves more valuable than reactive exposure strategies. The episode provides concrete examples of more effective approaches, from healthcare settings to corporate environments.Drawing on Harvard research and real-world examples like the Harvey Weinstein case, Bill and Megan illustrate the complex factors organizations must weigh when deciding how to address problematic behavior. They emphasize that while public exposure may occasionally be necessary, it should typically be a last resort after other interventions have been attempted.Additional ResourcesBooks:It's All Your Fault at Work: Managing Narcissists and Other High-Conflict People5 Types of People Who Can Ruin Your LifeBIFF at Work: Your Guide to Difficult Workplace CommunicationSLIC Solutions for Conflict: Setting Limits & Imposing Consequences in 2 1/2 StepsArticles:Fire or Keep High-Conflict Employees?Should Employees with High-Conflict Behaviors Be Given a Chance to Change?Professional Development:New Ways Training Programs (workplace, mediation, divorce)Conflict Influencer Class (for personal situations)Custom Training for OrganizationsHigh Conflict Institute Consultation ServicesConnect With Us:Visit High Conflict InstituteSubmit questions for Bill and MeganBrowse our complete collection in our online storeFind all episode notes on our websiteImportant Notice: Our discussions focus on behavioral patterns rather than diagnoses. This discussion explores their disregard for mandatory reporting laws and legal regulations, exposing the dangers when dogma overrides personal autonomy and human well-being. It reveals how such practices can lead to severe psychological harm, especially for children, and calls for secular principles to prevail where vulnerable individuals are concerned.News Source: Woman Sues John MacArthur's Church By Hemant Mehta for The Friendly Atheist July 14, 2025

S1E55: Astronomer executives' Coldplay scandal: Why it went viral and the obsession with public shaming

If combining the words “kiss cam”, “Coldplay”, “Astronomer” and “affair” means nothing to you, you have managed to be blissfully unaware of the internet’s weekend meltdown over a very public spectacle. Synopsis: Join Natasha Ann Zachariah at The Usual Place as she unpacks the latest current affairs with guests. Here’s the TL;DR recap: A couple, who were in a tight embrace, created a buzz among concertgoers – and later, the world – when they pulled a duck/hide move after they were featured on the kiss cam at a Coldplay concert in Boston. Their reaction was so suspicious that the band’s frontman Chris Martin quipped: “Either they are having an affair or they’re just very shy.” It turned out that Martin was right, and the cheating pair were colleagues at US tech firm Astronomer.Internet sleuths uncovered their names and job titles – he’s Andy Byron the now-former chief executive at the company; she’s Kristin Cabot, Astronomer’s chief people officer – as well as information about their other relationships.People also found out who Mr Byron’s wife was, with some even sending her messages about what they thought of her husband. Beyond the illicit affair being publicly exposed, the incident led to much introspection about what happens when private moments become public, and leadership credibility. Also, what is our obsession with public shaming? To answer those questions on this episode of The Usual Place podcast, I spoke with: Stephanie Phua, founder of marketing and branding collective Duo Studio and co-founder of The Trampoline Club, a platform which pushes for compassion, understanding and mutual respect in conversations; Pan Huiyan, a millennial leadership coach; and Dr Sunny Johar, managing director for South-east Asia at digital experience agency KRDS. Highlights (click/tap above): 1:48 Initial thoughts about Coldplay-gate - would the moment have gone viral if the couple did not overreact? 13:07 What this incident tells us about filming and sharing content about strangers 19:41 Would anyone have cared if it weren’t the CEO and the head of HR? 22:46 Will a private mistake affect a person’s work ethics? 33:14 Post-viral moment, can the couple recover professionally? When news broke that tech CEO Andy Byron was allegedly caught in an intimate moment with his HR chief Kristin Cabot at a Coldplay concert, the headlines exploded—and so did public judgment. But what happens when we step away from the gossip and look at the human reality underneath? In this episode, Idit Sharoni, LMFT, and our team of licensed infidelity recovery experts at Relationship Experts, offer a grounded, non-sensationalized discussion of what we're calling the “Coldplay Affair.” We dive into the emotional, relational, and societal layers of this story—from how betrayal impacts all parties involved, to the harm of public shaming, and why American culture often gets these stories wrong. You'll hear us explore: The quick and ruthless public reaction: no judge, no jury, just instant verdicts Gossip vs. Reality: what the headlines don't show How high-profile relationships and careers create “relational atomic bombs” when betrayal is exposed The quiet pain of hurt partners, often made worse by public humiliation Why it's time to stop acting shocked and start understanding the complexity of infidelity We're not here to gossip. We're here to talk responsibly, with compassion and realism. If you're tired of the toxic spin on infidelity stories, this conversation will feel like a breath of fresh air. Today, we're discussing the recent controversy surrounding Shiloh Hendrix, who called a black child a racial slur at a playground instead of taking the concern to the child's parents. This behavior is not only unacceptable—it's unchristian. As followers of Christ, we are called to be above reproach (1 Timothy 3:2), especially when dealing with the next generation. God will not judge us by our skin color, so why are we so quick to judge others by theirs? We can simultaneously be aware of the statistics about certain cultures within particular races, and realize that this is not how we handle those problems. We'll explore the biblical approach to conflict resolution. When there's a problem with a child's behavior, the godly route is to speak directly with their parents—not to attack the child. Christians must hold one another accountable. --https://policecoffee.com/collections/coffee

Summary In this episode, Tim delves into the case against John MacArthur, a well-known pastor and theologian. He discusses MacArthur's views on slavery, and highlights MacArthur's legacy of protecting men in his church who have been accused of sexual abuse. Tim presents evidence of MacArthur's knowledge of the abuse and his failure to take appropriate action. This conversation exposes the disturbing actions and responses of John MacArthur and Grace Community Church (GCC) in cases of child abuse within their congregation. The chapters cover MacArthur's dismissive response to Wendy's accusations, the confrontation and revelation of Paul Guay's abuse, GCC's inadequate response to the abuse, MacArthur's involvement and contradictory statements, MacArthur's public shaming of Eileen Gray, the elders' dismissal of Gray's abuse allegations, David Gray's conviction and MacArthur's support, Alistair Begg's controversial advice and MacArthur's response, and the lack of accountability for MacArthur's actions.
