3 essentials for losing 10lbs These are 3 must haves when it comes to losing 10lbs. They are the cornerstones of my weight loss program You will notice none of them have to do with dieting. No counting, measuring, points, macros, specific foods. ANd this still works. Works better in fact. You might feel right now like you can't trust yourself. Like you need outside force to lose weight. It's why you keep looking for the next diet, the next trainer, the next weight loss shot. But what you really need are these 3 things Brain body connection Your body is sending you signals all the time, you don't know how to listen. In face of the information being passed between your brain and body: 80% is coming from your body to your brain, not the other way around. You forgot how to listen because that voice in your mind is overpowering! You need to/have to learn how to stop listening to that voice and start listening to the wisdom of you body How can they do this at home? Here's how you can get started at home before you join my program: deep breathing. In for the count of 8, hold for 4, out for 10 Mindset It's not the actions you take, it is the sentences in your brain and the emotions they cause that drive your actions Simply saying you are going to take this list actions without looking at what you are currently thinking and feeling or what thoughts and emotions will drive those specific actions (how we lose weight now) will result in you using a lot of willpower to lose and feeling exhausted Planning indulgences A lot of times when we are wanting to lose weight we think it has to look perfect, no sugar, no flour, whatever it is. But you also want to live your life. Which means you need to plan to live your life. How will you strike a weight loss balance when you are living your life? Begin by looking at your calendar: have a dinner out coming up? What is one thing you would like to enjoy during that meal that is a bit of an indulgence, something you might deny yourself if you're trying to lose weight. Now tell yourself you are eating that thing. You're not going free for all and eating all the inudlgences because you are having one, you are simply having that thing and you are going to enjoy it to the fullest. Really slow down, taste it. A lot of times we eat indulgences super fast because we have this mindset that it's not allowed, we have to sneak it, and this is the last time we'll ever eat it so eat all of it. Planning ahead is being an adult about it. You are choosing to have this, not sneaking it. Ok, that's our time. Hi, my name is Hayley Sohn and I am a Nutritionist and Brain Training Weight Loss Coach. I teach my clients how to lose 10lbs in 30 days without dieting by wiring their brain to eat less. The significance of mindset lies in its power to shape our thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes, which in turn affect our behaviors, emotions, and overall mental well-being.  Our mindset not only influences how we perceive and respond to external circumstances, but it also shapes our internal dialogue and self-talk.  How to cultivate a Christ-centered Mindset: It first starts with challenging negative thought patterns. From a Christian perspective, the role of self-talk and negative thought patterns in shaping our mental well-being is significant. The Bible emphasizes the power of our thoughts and the importance of renewing our minds.  Scriptures Mentioned: Proverbs 23:7  Romans 12:2  Links: YouVersion Bible App Work with Destiny Instagram Facebook --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/destiny-pickens7/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/destiny-pickens7/support

89. From Prisoner to Presenter, Raphael Rowe Gives a Behind-the-Scenes Look into the Netflix Show, Inside the World's Toughest Prisons

An Interview with Melissa Llarena

What happens in prisons is very secretive. It feels even more far removed from our everyday reality when you take into account what happens in prisons around the world including countries such as South Africa, Brazil, and the Ukraine.  Our guest today, Raphael Rowe, spent 12 years in prison for crimes he did not commit. Eventually, his convictions were overturned in 2000. But that experience changed him.  With that perspective and experience, he was able to be the presenter behind this Netflix show Inside the World's Toughest Prisons, where he had the opportunity to visit these prisons, ask prisoners questions pertaining to their stories, and ultimately, give us a unique viewpoint into what's really going on in prisons. That way, we can have a better perspective about what these realities are, and hopefully, we can do something about them.  Raphael is also the host of his own podcast called Second Chance, and the best selling author of his autobiography, Notorious. Just to give you a bit more perspective pertaining to Raphael's career in journalism, he is the first person of mixed race with dreadlocks to report for the British Broadcasting Corporation, on both television and radio, and helped re-write the rules on what makes an international BBC correspondent. He is an experienced investigative journalist and presenter on both prime time television and international platforms. Yet it is being an inspiration to an under-served and diverse audience across the globe that inspires Raphael. He broke the mould on what an international reporter looks like, sounds like and has as a background. He is proud of the fact that in doing so, he inspires others.  Hopefully, by listening to this conversation, you will have an appreciation for the changes that can help make a difference in the everyday lives of inmates around the world. You'll also understand how someone who was imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit leveraged the power of the media to ultimately get out. And you'll also see why rehabilitation is very difficult to ensure and how it's ultimately the decision of each individual.  Share this episode with anyone who would want to see more done when it comes to justice, social reform, or prison reform, either in the U.S., in the UK, or in your part of the world. Enjoy our conversation! Highlights Perspective: People's perceptions were changing when they watched something like Inside the World's Toughest Prisons. In making the documentary, Raphael took on the persona of a prisoner so he was treated like a prisoner. They approached everything with a nonjudgmental attitude and allowed things to play out as they discovered them.  Persona: Having to deal with the threat of violence, whether physical or emotional, shapes the person you become. It becomes a part of your personality to the point you develop a skill set, understanding and an awareness of everything and everyone around you. Skill set: The 12 years he spent in prison has armed him with a number of skill sets he's able to deploy. He has picked up on the threat and has been able to defuse that in real time. So he's still very tuned into that and aware of where the danger is coming from and how to deal with it. Mindset: It starts and ends in the mind. It's all about the shift in the mind. It's as if he was opening a box that is locked in his mind that prepares him for any eventuality.  Demeanor: Even the way you walk can give off a sense of fear. And they can control, manipulate, intimidate, especially the most vulnerable. They can see that, if not smell it or taste it. And so, it's about the way you carry yourself in that environment. Empathy: Raphael asks prisoners from the perspective of empathy and he allows them to tell their story without judging them. Whereas the authority figures or therapists are seeking particular answers to particular questions because they have a way of assessing prisoners to figure out the means to an end.  Persistence: He felt there was something deep inside him that was so angry, and so twisted and so bitter, that kept him going. Hope: Raphael had this deep belief from the moment he was arrested that he had some hope to cling onto. Whether it was as simple as a letter telling him that something was about to change. Or a visit from one of his family members, or a letter from a stranger telling him they believe in him.  Journalism: The media played a significant role in his wrongful convictions. But he also needed the media to tell people he was innocent. In prison, Raphael spent the time understanding the media put him in good stead to become a real journalist when he left prison. Resources: Where there is an opportunity, prisoners do and should take those opportunities to look after themselves and prepare to stand up for themselves. The resources are available as well as the courses and the training provided by the prison service.  Change: Prisoners have to choose to make those decisions for themselves. The individual has to want to change. They have to break free of whatever it is that got them into their situation.  Empathy: People need to be more empathetic with prisoners for them to understand what it is that will make that individual make the decision that they want to change. Choice: Wherever you are in whatever prison in whatever country, whatever resources, whatever training, whatever you are prepared to put in front of the prisoner, unless that prisoner is prepared to change their own life, none of it makes any difference. Support: As a family member of a prisoner, we need to listen. Listen when you're least expected to hear something instead of giving them a lecture. Then try to implement something subtly that can bring about a change in their character or in their personality. Creativity: Raphael decided the media was not his enemy and he leveraged the media to get out of jail. What are the things in your life right now that you feel challenged by? Reimagine the way you perceive different entities and forces in your life to turn them for good. Curiosity: Raphael is asking questions to uncover what might be some sustainable ways to help everyday prison life be easier. Is there something you want to build or start? take cues from what makes you curious and investigate.  Courage: Raphael held on to his innocence while in prison. He was 100% invested in his own self-preservation so that he could ultimately get out of prison and reclaim his innocence. Is there a place in your life where you can be more courageous pertaining to something that matters but not everyone would agree on? Two of the greatest bastions of British journalism. Born and brought up in south-east London, my tone, style and accent was different to that normally heard on the flagship Today programme and caused an immediate stir in 2001 amongst the traditional Radio 4 audience. Two years after joining the BBC I became BBC3's launch current affairs undercover reporter on a number of programmes including, Movers, Shakers and Crack Takers, Gangland Manchester and Blood Diamonds, the exploitation, and routes used by terrorists to smuggle conflict diamonds. This was dangerous undercover work but I enjoyed it immensely.   I also presented a number of programmes for BBC2 including This World: Locked in Paradise and Who Killed Kelso Cochrane? I investigated and presented a fascinating three-part investigation which revealed the UK's first criminal underworld rich list, including smugglers, drug barons and fraudsters. After joining Panorama in 2006 I reported on a wide range of issues, including Bursting the House Price Bubble, Addiction to Games, Track my Trash, Jailed for a Knife, Smugglers Tales, Orphans of Haiti, Kill at Will: America on trial, and Children's Fight Club, DIY Justice. During one of my first investigations, Death on Corfu I uncovered crucial information that helped the parents of two children who died from carbon dioxide poisoning whilst on a Thomas Cook package holiday to secure justice. My investigation for Panorama into the murder of the BBC celebrity, Jill Dando, cast doubts on the firearms forensic evidence used at the trial of Barry George, who was convicted of killing the BBC TV presenter. In August 2008, Barry George was acquitted at a retrial and freed. I have reported from some of the most dangerous and hostile places in the world, Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Borneo, Nigeria, Jamaica, Beirut, Colombia, Papua New Guinea and Haiti to name a few. I am a highly experienced and skilled investigative journalist and presenter on both prime time television and international streaming platforms such as Netflix but it is an inspiration to an under-served and diverse audience that I focus my activities now. Ep 56 | The System's Mindset: It's Not Willpower, That's the ProblemThis is the last episode of the Mindset Series. We've covered the Happiness Mindset, the Self-Care Mindset, the Belief Mindset, and the Manifestor's Mindset. Now we bring it all together in the System's Mindset. People feel frustrated when they can't take the actions they need to make sustainable progress in their lives. It's not that we lack the ability or the willpower to make healthy changes in our life—it's that we don't have systems or blueprints to follow. We need accountability and a vision for who we want to become. Take a look at the stats. According to The American Society for Training and Development, of people who...Consciously decide to set a goal, only 25% achieve their goal.Decide when they will do it, 40% achieve their goal.Plan how they will do it, 50% achieve their goal.Commit to someone else they will do it, 65% achieve their goal.Have a specific accountability appointment with the person they committed to (a coach), 95% achieve their goal!We gravely overestimate the effect of tiny, small changes in our lives and we give up way too easily because we aren't seeing results fast enough. Believe it or not, you don't have to take massive action to get massive results. In fact, you can treat your life like compound interest and stay laser-focused on an area of improvement, taking small actionable steps to create a ripple effect in your life. Becoming the best version of yourself requires you to continuously extract your old beliefs, and to download a new set of beliefs that match up with the reality you want to create. Tune in to learn more about… Why it's not your willpower that's preventing you from reaching your goals. If you're having trouble with incorporating habits in your life, your system is the problem. How tiny changes create remarkable results. Remember that success is the product of daily habits—not once-in-a-lifetime transformations. The purpose of building a system. How to build good habits and break bad ones. How to shift your internal blueprint to create results. “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.” - James ClearRegister for the Happy Academy! I wanted to do something for you during this time of high anxiety because it can leave you feeling out of control (hence the food hoarding and toilet paper buying). This type of behavior is usually what happens when you feel this way. It gives you a false sense of security and like you have some kind of control over the situation.  Well truthfully you do...and it starts with three super important spiritual tools that you need to utilize now! 1) Mindset - It all begins with a mindset. There's a lot that goes into an event like this and it's not physical. There are a lot of Universal Laws that are in play. And when you understand how those things work, you can actually create a very different experience for yourself. You can download your copy of the book I talk about in the podcast here: http://bit.ly/UniversalLaw (during the time of this podcast it was FREE but it might not be any longer) 2) Clearing Energy - During such a high anxiety time, you will need to learn how to clear energy or be "reminded" of how important it is to be doing at this particular point in time. (You can find this meditation on my YouTube channel) 3) Spiritual Distancing - Here's where the podcast comes in. Dan has also had the privilege of modelling the strategies of some of the global authorities in the fields of network marketing, internet marketing business growth and the psychology of peak performance. Dan’s experience, coupled with his undeniable thirst for constant and never ending improvement and the most up to date practical knowledge in the areas of business growth, leadership and peak performance, is rapidly making him a trusted and highly sought-after advisor and consultant to a new generation of entrepreneurs, leaders & inspired thinkers. Mission: Dan is on a mission to push his boundaries and create something innovative. Inspired by trailblazers like Steve Jobs, he’s constantly studying entrepreneurial pioneers to gain inspiration and ideas. Mindset: It all boils down to how much you believe in yourself. You will achieve as much as your mind believes. Dan shares the story of the moment he realized that he was sabotaging his own success and the root cause was his own lack of belief. Luckily, he also shares he turned it around and how you can too. Marketing: Dan shares that “Clarity is Power”. Getting clear on your talents, who you serve, and then engage the market to confirm. It’s the part of engaging that will give you the feedback you need to move forward. The answers won’t come from thinking over the plan, they come from taking action. Momentum: Serving his first clients gave Dan the confirmation and momentum he needed to move forward with full force. Seeing firsthand the impact and shifts he helped his clients achieve, it became obvious that he was on the right path. Masterminds: Listen as Dan shares his the story behind his first mastermind experience which consisted of a group of men who all thought the same way and within the group felt understood. Erez Weinstein is a lifelong entrepreneur in diverse industries, tech and non-tech. Currently, Erez is working on new ways to create hospitality brands in the sharing economy space and a new approach to define schools position in the community. By challenging the current business model and structure of private schools, Erez aims to create a tuition free, self-funded education hub providing new opportunities for students, teachers, investors and entrepreneurs. Mission: Being a father himself, Erez is invested in the educational system that is molding his children's minds. Seeing a large gap between the way that kids are taught and the skills needed for adults to succeed, Erez connected to an idea for making a shift. Developing a strong base of knowledge for what is currently being done, he connected to the idea for a new educational system and a path to bring that idea to reality. Mindset: It's easy to see how passionate Erez is about this innovative idea. While he's not blind to the road ahead, he's focused on building a team of like-minded influencers that can share in the vision and bring it to reality. Marketing: Once launched, Erez envisions that the success of the students will drive demand for enrollment. Imagine a high school graduate accepting a $45k offer from Google upon graduate. That could become, not the exception, but the norm, when project-based learning is implemented on this level. Masterminds: I love Erez's description of the value and relevancy behind project-based learning.  His comparison between the current day focus on individual achievement in school, versus the real-world success of building the right team. Mastermind Challenge: Project-based learning has a lot of similarity to group masterminds. Do you have a specific goal that your working towards? Revenue target, number of blogs to create, number of clients to onboard... what if you stop leaning on just yourself and your own self-motivation and great an amazing group to hold you accountable and become your sounding board? On this episode of Rhodes to Success, I interview Rick Martinez, who is a veteran, registered nurse, writer, and successful entrepreneur. Rick sold his company, MedTrust for seven figures, and during this episode, discusses BizAcademy Online, money mindset, winner's mindset, masterminds, and the 4 business fundamentals you won't learn in business school.    Main Questions Asked: Why are people, passion, and profit the keys to greater impact and more reward? What are your thoughts around money mindset? How do you define and develop a winner's mindset? How can people strengthen the winner's mindset? What are the 4 business fundamentals you need to know about, and why won't you learn them in business school? Talk about entrepreneurs and follow through.   Key Lessons Learned: Money Mindset Work less, make more, live with passion, and make money. We need to have a different internal conversation about money, because it's okay to make money. It's not about the money, but rather what you do with it. Being happy for people who have more will put you in an abundance mindset.   Winner's Mindset Whether you own your business or are an employee, you need to get your mind ready to attack the day. This mindset starts with how you approach the day, starting from waking up to perception. When you know ‘why' you are going to do what you do, it makes things easier. Rick starts his day with a ‘power hour,' which includes reading something inspirational, clearing out his inbox, and reading his mantras. Our minds can quickly go to negative places, so it works to have positive mantras actually written down.   Tips for Winner's Mindset It's often difficult to keep energy flowing on our own and the power of accountability. Masterminds don't always have to be for business owners. There are local Meetup groups. If you don't have a mastermind group, then either seek one out or create one. Be the change you want to see.   Challenging Days Wondering what you are doing, what your purpose is, and if you are on the right path happens to everyone. We all have days where the mindset goes off the deep end and negative mind chatter creeps in. Have an accountability partner you can call when you need a ‘mindset check.'   The 5 People We are the average of the 5 people we surround ourselves with. These don't have to be people we aspire to be, but can be people we lead. Regardless of whether you are a business owner, you need to have mentors and trusted advisors in your life. Think of your advisors as a board of directors, as not everyone can give advise on every challenge. It's not just about business; it's about the balance of life.   The 4 Business Fundamentals People Understanding vendors and clients. Strategy What is the long-term 3-5-year plan? Execution How are you putting what you know about people and your business into action? Cash Flow Cash is king. Gross revenue is for vanity, and net revenue is for sanity.   Entrepreneurs & Follow Through Fail fast, fail cheap, and ask, “Is what I'm going to do a benefit in the long run, or am I doing this to satisfy my entrepreneur ego?”   Subscribe to the show in iTunes or Stitcher Radio!   The music in today's episode was written by The Danger Os and produced by Nick Palmer. Honoree Corder makes her second appearance on the podcast to talk about her new book, Prosperity for Writers.  Whether you're looking to write a book or take your business to the next level, her philosophies on commitment, follow-through, abundance and money mindset can be applied to us all. Mission: The inspiration for Prosperity for Writers was born at a writer's conference where Honoree heard writers doubting their ability to create and publish a highly successful book.  It was then that she sought out to explore the steps that authors can take to create a living from their passion for writing. Mindset: "It's not about what you're doing, it's about who you're being. And who you're being is based on what you're thinking." Listen as Honoree covers the 4 mental hurdles to being a prosperous author.  "If you can't think it, you can't ink it", she says. Momentum: Commitment over interest. I love Honoree's description of commitment over interest and how important commitment is to gaining the momentum you need to get going with your writing (or any other project you're working on!). Plus, she shares her exact process for writing daily and how she keeps from "breaking the chain". Mastermind Challenge:  In her book, Honoree says "If you want something, give it away".  Whether it's money, love, or guidance, challenge yourself to give that which you are looking for to someone else.  Watch and see how the universe returns it to you.

*Part 2 of my five-year health and fitness reflections covers some great exercise breakthroughs that I’ve implemented recently, as well as some lifestyle and mindset strategies that I’m placing great importance on these days.* ** I was talking with my former podcast guest and lifelong super athlete Dave Kobrine - the king of morning routines (listen to this show ( https://www.bradkearns.com/2018/11/06/davekobrine-2/ ) about his 2.5 hour daily regimen featuring waking with the sun for some easy cardio, a cold plunge and hot sauna, plus long weight training sessions). At the age of 59, Dave has a PhenoAge of 47, and together, we came up with some of our most beneficial highlights and best practices for aging gracefully, so let’s get to it! *Exercise* Some great overall trends for me in the past five years have been: * Backing off from workouts that are too tough and cause soreness/extended recovery time * Doing micro workouts on more active days. I have seen over time just how much a little here, a little there, every day, really adds up in the long run. * Rethinking Jogging ( https://youtu.be/7KFlg5hLma8 ) and overall minimizing endurance exercise. I don’t know how your brothers or Dietch can keep doing it but it doesn’t seem healthy to run marathons in one’s 50s. Certain genetic profiles may be more adapted. e.g., Non-dunkers… * Variable resistance training using an X3 bar and stretch Cordz for less soreness and less joint load. See my Day in the Life ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=emb_logo&v=TJu6br65oLA ) video to see how I work with both. * Doing my Morning Routine ( https://youtu.be/-IPPwBc3GLw ) every single day for the past 4 years. Since I have low consistency in life overall, this has made a life-changing difference. I feel fitter and more resilient overall, and when my knee heals, I expect to perform superhuman feats/set records. * Cold plunge! As you probably already know, doing a cold plunge is a staple in my morning routine, and if you are interested in setting up your own chest freezer to do cold water therapy at home, check out this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AF6d9ngxnDo ) where I explain the steps behind my setup. * Fighting the hyper connectivity battle: I love the positives that come with technology, but I also can’t ignore the many downsides, so down time and spending time away from screens is something we all must prioritize by using discipline. What really works for me is, instead of simply relying on willpower all the time, I make an effort to orchestrate opportunities where I have to get away from the computer/phone. It helps so much when you find ways to be disconnected from your phone, like doing exercise, going in the sauna or jacuzzi, napping, or taking a meditation break. *Sleep* So incredibly dialed in there for years dating back to triathlon days getting 12 hours a night. However, in the back of my mind I have that wimp question - am I accustomed to luxurious sleep habits and sort of addicted like junk food? *Mindset* It is so important that we work on formulating a strong and empowering mindset that allows us to best deal with the things we all face daily, like anxiety, uncertainty, setbacks….things that are certainly heightened and exacerbated right now. But I love what Dave Rossi says about the pursuit of happiness: Lasting happiness is more about removing things that make you unhappy, and then you are left with happiness. This is powerful. When faced with fear and anxiety, respond by redirecting your thoughts to your values and your vision. Dr. Ron Sinha also explained on the show ( https://www.bradkearns.com/2019/08/06/sinha/ ) that FOMO has actual health consequences, so remember that your mindset literally plays a role in the state of your health. Another interesting manifesting concept is that that which you fixate on has a tendency to play out. Yes, good and bad. Remember what Luke Storey says: “Just doing the act is huge.” When Luke was on the podcast ( https://www.bradkearns.com/2020/03/31/luke-storey/ ) , he emphasized the importance of being grateful now and then going forward from that perspective, because you simply cannot manifest without having gratitude for what you already have. And Dan Millman, author of my favorite book and recent podcast guest ( https://www.bradkearns.com/2021/01/05/dan-millman-the-way-of-the-peaceful-warrior/ ) says, “Be happy now, without reason, or you never will be.” *TIMESTAMPS:* The mindset for so long has been a struggle and suffer to become a champion or even just to become fit. We have a tendency to overdo it. [02:28] Rest and recovery are most important. [05:14] Micro workouts make a fantastic contribution to your fitness. [08:21] You get a better workout from short explosive effort than you do from a steady state. [10:02] You get a fine cardio workout even with stop and start activities. [14:11] The X3 bar promotes the concept of variable resistance training. [17:10] A recap of this show talks about backing off from workouts, emphasizing micro workouts, re-thinking cardo, and variable resistance training. [23:04] The cold plunge is still very much recommended for health benefits both physically and psychologically. [23:51] It is very important to fight the battle against hyper-connectivity. Don’t let technology rule our lives. [26:07] Keeping an eye on your mindset is empowering as we struggle with today’s quarantine and other anxiety producing situations. Be clear on what it is that you want to make you happy. [30:02] Try making a vision board.
