Just when he seemed to have Pecco Bagnaia on the ropes once again following a hard-charging sprint win, Jorge Martin's terrible Sunday race leaves him back in title long-shot status with just the Valencia finale to go. Simon Patterson and Valentin Khorounzhiy join Matt Beer to explain exactly what went wrong for the furious Martin on The Race MotoGP Podcast, and make their predictions for how this epic season will finally be resolved next weekend. Bagnaia's Qatar GP could've been even better had he not been defeated in the victory fight by Fabio di Giannantonio - a man who pretty much no one would've tipped for a MotoGP race win just a few months ago, and who doesn't even look like he'll have a place on the 2024 MotoGP grid. We delve into the various rider market machinations that mean that's the case and try to plot some alternative scenarios that would get all the worthy riders in the field. And there's also plenty of debate about Aleix Espargaro and Franco Morbidelli's actions on and off track after their practice spat that dramatically spilled over. A very different kind of brilliance befell the Circuit of the Americas for Round 4 of the MotoGP World Championship. Marc Marquez, the heavy favourite, got hit with a technical gremlin off the line and fell to the back. So of course he still finished 6th, just 6 seconds off the win. We go weak at the knees over this ride. Oh, and Enea Bastianini won! That was cool. We discuss the prospects of whether a GP21 Ducati can truly challenge for the title, and Enea's credentials. On top of that, we also talk Jack Miller on the GP21.5, who finished on the podium, yet still faces more questions over his future. We discuss Jorge Martin, and Miller's roles in Ducati's growing headache. We also talk Alex Rins and his very sneaky title campaign that's going under the radar! All that and more coming up on a new Motorsport101!
After the opening four rounds of the 2022 MotoGP World Championship, it's still anyone's guess as to who might well come out on top. MotoGP™ World Championship leader Fabio Quartararo talks about what he learned from his rollercoaster 2020 season, how working with a psychologist has helped his career, the pressure of being compared to Marc Marquez at age 15 and his dream of driving a Formula 1® car.
Imagine being a rider in the Moto3™ World Championship but aside from riding, you’re also pulling together all the sponsorship, coordination, promotion and everything else needed to have a fully functioning race team. Well, that’s what Lucio Cecchinello did when he first started the LCR Team back in his 125cc World Championship days in the early 90s. He’s a true one of a kind, as while a World Championship in his own riding career evaded him, he’s since taken the LCR squad tot he very top of the MotoGP™ World Championship, taking victories at the very highest level. This year he celebrates 25 years of the LCR Team and he’s got no plans to slow down yet. In this episode, he tells us his secrets to success - not just in terms of a career - but maintaining passion, happiness and satisfaction in his every day life as well. Plus, we find out what his favourite dessert is! See you next time. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Shakey and Paul go head to head with Cal Crutchlow. Cal Crutchlow (born 29 October 1985) is an English former road racer of motorcycles, who competed in the MotoGP World Championship. Maverick Viñales drew first blood in the 2021 MotoGP World Championship with a commanding victory on his Yamaha in the Qatar Grand Prix. The Spaniard had shown strong race pace throughout testing and practice for the Qatar GP, but all too often in recent years has that form disappeared and Vinales left to offer a meek showing on Sundays. But, despite being monstered by four Ducatis at the start, the new-and-improved Vinales took control of the improved Yamaha to carve his way through from sixth at the end of lap one to score his ninth MotoGP victory by over a second. World champion Joan Mir transformed his fortunes in the race from 10th on the grid only to be denied a podium on the run to the line by Johann Zarco and Francesco Bagnaia. Pol Espargaro’s Honda debut was an “amazing” start - though he was left “angry” by the end result - while Fabio Quartararo was at a loss to explain his deficit to his Yamaha team-mate Vinales.
