In 1980, she began appearing in horror and science fiction films, including The Fog (1980), Escape from New York (1981), Creepshow (1982), and Swamp Thing (1982). Her mother was of Armenian descent and her father's ancestry was French Canadian, Irish, and German. She has a sister, Jocelyn, and a half brother on her father's side, Robert Barbeau, who still resides in the Sacramento area. She attended Del Mar High School in San Jose, California. After graduating in 1963, she enrolled at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, California, but dropped out at age 19 to participate in a USO Tour with the San Jose Light Opera. In her autobiography, Barbeau says that she first caught the show business bug while entertaining troops at army bases throughout Southeast Asia, touring with the San Jose Civic Light Opera. In the late 1960s, Barbeau moved to New York City and worked "for the mob"as a go-go dancer. She made her Broadway debut in the chorus of Fiddler on the Roof and later took the role of Hodel, Tevye's daughter; Bette Midler played her character's sister Tzeitel. She left Fiddler in 1971 to play the leading role of Cookie Kovac in the off-Broadway nudie musical Stag Movie. Barbeau, as Cookie Kovac, and Brad Sullivan, as Rip Cord, were "quite jolly and deserve to be congratulated on the lack of embarrassment they show when, on occasion, they have to wander around stark naked. They may not be sexy but they certainly keep cheerful," wrote The New York Times theater critic Clive Barnes in an otherwise negative review. Barbeau went on to star in more than 25 musicals and plays, including Women Behind Bars, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Grease. She received a Theater World Award and a 1972 Tony Award nomination for her portrayal of tough-girl Rizzo in Grease. © Alain Amiel

Happy New Years Metalheads! Tonight we share a fun story of how a veteran Metal Singer saved the day for two of this falls most anticipated Tours. It Started With THIS: German/American heavy metal legends ACCEPT have recruited Jason McMaster (DANGEROUS TOYS, WATCHTOWER) to sing for the band as ACCEPT‘s longtime frontman Mark Tornillo, who is unable to make the gig because he is recovering from a “virus infection”. And Ended with THIS : "Unfortunately, luck has dealt me a gnarly knuckleball," ARMORED SAINT Vocalist John Bush wrote in his post. "I came down with an illness and even though it hasn't made me feel bad, it still has infiltrated my nasal and chest area and planted itself. "Luckily, longtime friend and Armored Saint fan Jason McMaster (Dangerous Toys/ Broken Teeth) is coming to the rescue again. He's already helped Accept earlier this year on tour and now he's stepping into the batter's box for me. I am extremely grateful, and I know he'll kill it! We were there in CLEVELAND with John Bush and ARMORED SAINT and in PENNSYLVANIA when Jason Took over for Bush. Jason McMaster, vocalist, bassist, songwriter, producer, artist, rock and metal enthusiast, minister (Pastor McMaster from the Church of Disaster) Known for fronting progressive metal pioneers Watchtower, as well as nasty Texas rockers Dangerous Toys, and the kick in the face riff raffers Broken Teeth. We get the entire story from Jason Himself. A great unique conversation filled with in-depth antidotes and disclosures found only here at Metal Mayhem ROC. R.I.P. On this week's Let's Talk About… episode, Elise sits down with Aline Nalbandian, founder or A-Line Wayuu Love.A-Line Wayuu Love was born to support Wayuu artisans living in La Guajira, the northernmost point of Columbia while bringing their beautiful wares back to Canada. With one-of-a-kind artisanal mochila bags, each bag reflects the spirit and passion of the weaver, using colour and pattern to tell the stories of the hands that made it.Elise and Aline talk about the story behind the brand, being a new entrepreneur and working with the locals in Columbia, and giving back to the community.“It's an art that they pass down from women to girl, for generations to generation. And it's literally their only means of income and it's super important. So I decided right there and then that I would do this if I could find a way to work with these communities.” Aline tells Elise on Let's Talk About. In this Episode we talk about:The Story Behind A-Line Wayuu LoveBeing an EntrepreneurWorking with the Local Community in ColumbiaResources:Read the show transcriptFollow Aline on social media: @alinewayuuloveCheck out our websiteFollow us on social media: @style_canada Hosted on Acast. This week we profile someone that never became world number one or captured a Grand Slam, but accomplished something no other player has . David Nalbandian defied explanation, until you saw what he could do on the court when everything was just ‘right.' We saw that happen in 2007 at the Madrid Open when he became the first and only person to beat Nadal, Djokovic and Federer at the same tournament.Come join the Patreon family for bonus content and ad-free episodes: https://www.patreon.com/openera Follow @OpenEraPod on Twitter!
