#podcast #cancer #treatment Christie Matthews, an award-winner disc jockey at the Jonesboro Radio Group and a Make-A-Wish ambassador, was at her daughter's wedding when she turned to speak to a guest, and her hip popped out of the socket. That's when she realized something wasn't right. After months of trying to figure out what was wrong, she got a call from her doctor. She had a tumor on her hip. It was multiple myeloma. She was diagnosed on New Year's Eve of 2020 and started treatment in 2021. Even after getting answers to the cause of her pain, she was still shocked.“I just thought I'd had a bad hip and needed hip replacement,” Matthews said. “I look back, and I can't really remember a lot of it because I was just on autopilot. It's devastating.”Nick Tingquist, a thoracic surgeon at UAMS, said one of the best forms of prevention is early detection. That can start with regular visits to a primary care physician. He said they're trained to find and prevent diseases early on.Tingquist said there are also some suggested tests and procedures for certain patients.“Getting a yearly colonoscopy at age 45, or if you have a history of smoking, some people are eligible to be screened,” Tingquist said.As for some of the early signs of cancer, it will vary depending on the type and the person. The symptoms may be difficult for patients to understand.“It may be something you get used to over a period of time. I think it's important to recognize what's abnormal,” Tingquist added. Some of those abnormal symptoms could be unexpected weight loss, pains in certain parts of the body, changes in stool, and discoloration of the skin.Matthews' advice to everyone is to be your own advocate. If you think something is wrong, don't dismiss it. MY RADIO HISTORY: I started my radio career in 1989 working for the station I grew up listening to. My friends and I would slather on the suntan oil and iodine, work on our tan and listen to our favorite songs on KISR 93.7 in Fort Smith. I never dreamed at that time that radio would be where I would spend my career. I wanted to work in TV, but radio captured my heart. In the fall of 1990, I moved to Jonesboro to attend Arkansas State and started my full-time career in radio at KZ100. I hit a few frequencies over the years, but found my home at Jonesboro Radio Group in 1997.FAVORITE MUSIC: Asking me to list my favorite artists is like asking me to tell you why I love Christmas. I love the classics Haggard and Jones. I still get a funny feeling in my heart when I hear a song from Garth's “No Fences” album. I'm a super fan of today's country too, there are just so many talented singer songwriters today; Jordan Davis, Luke Combs, Hardy, Lainey Wilson, and Kelsea Ballerini just to name a few. Luxe Life Discovered podcast idea originated from meeting so many diverse, talented individuals along the Emerald Gulf Coast in Florida. There is a tremendous range of talent from artist, recording artists, entrepreneurs, as well as many desirable destinations and resorts. “Luxe Life Discovered” recently started remote interviews with others that Steiner Event Group has connected with nationally and internationally. We look forward to see what is ahead as we showcase talented and creative individuals, and showcase their journey.Website www.luxelifediscovered.com Youtube Roku Amazon Fire TV
They say you can't go home again, but this week Dave and Caleb make an attempt to as they think about hometowns. The good, the bad, the people, what it means to bring your full grown up self to a place where you are perpetually 17 years old, and importantly, the power of music to become containers for all the parts of your life; songs that mean something to you as a kid and grow and mold with you as you get older, so that they feel both present and meaningful and "like home." They dive into the Smashing Pumpkins' seminal album, Siamese Dream, currently celebrating its 30th anniversary. And then they briefly discuss country music and all of its baggage in light of the album that most sounds "like home," Garth Brooks' 18-million-selling album, No Fences. Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness Garth Brooks - No Fences Noname - Sundial New Pornographers - Continue as a Guest Sufjan Stevens - “So You Are Tired” Slowdive - everything is alive Olivia Rodrigo - “Bad Idea Right?”
Relationships can be INCREDIBLY satisfying, right?

I Sing In The Dark. What brings a church together? What makes it thrive? Simple answer: Jesus. Jesus tears down the fences that divide us building us into an amazing home where God feels completely at home (Ephesians 2:19-22).
It's the final week before hometowns and tensions are running high as they return to Colton's hometown, Denver. It's tears from a number of the ladies not chosen for the final pre-hometown one-on-ones. Tayshia is pointing fingers, echoing the warning of Katie and Sydney regarding some in the ladies in the house "not being ready". It's Tayshia / Kerpa versus Caelynn / Cassie in this week's sparring round. And Heather takes herself out of the running, hopping the train back to reality.
2/17/19 - “Good fences make good neighbors.” We always hear that, but do they really? Maybe in the end good fences make bad Christians. Associate Pastor Matt Johnson continues our series in Mark 12. For more information visit www.tfreechurch.org
