In this episode of Passing Judgment, we unravel the current status of the four pending criminal cases against former President Trump. Host Jessica Levinson explains that while Trump was convicted in the New York State hush money case, he received no real sentencing. The Georgia election interference case stalled due to conflict of interest allegations against the district attorney. Jessica provides a detailed overview of each case and what it means now that Trump is set to return to office. Here are three key takeaways you don't want to miss:New York State Hush Money Case: Trump was convicted of 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records for hush money payments to Stormy Daniels. However, the sentence resulted in no jail time, fines, or probation due to constitutional concerns about punishing a sitting president.Georgia Election Interference Case: This case, involving Trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 election results, stalled due to conflict of interest allegations against District Attorney Fani Willis. The delay and constitutional concerns have put the case on indefinite hold.Federal Cases: Both the DC election interference and Mar-a-Lago classified documents cases stalled due to legal challenges and questions of immunity. Following Trump's recent election victory, Special Counsel Jack Smith resigned, and the cases were effectively closed.Follow Our Host: @LevinsonJessica
It's clear that Joe Biden has won the election but Donald Trump will not accept it. First, he brings together a ragtag bunch of lawyers and tries to overturn the results in the courts. He fails. Then he tries to lean on governors and individual states, famously calling Brad Raffensperger and asking him to ‘find' 11,780 votes in Georgia. He fails. So all he's left with is January 6th and the hope he can pressure Congress into not certifying the results. Listen to Katty and Anthony discuss Trump's attempts to deny Biden's victory in the period between election day and January 6th, in the second episode in this miniseries on how he almost overthrew democracy. He refuses to accept that he lost the 2020 election. And so - on January 2, 2021 - Trump calls Georgia and urges the Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, to find votes for him. An attempt to influence the election just a few days before the storming of the Capitol - unprecedented in US history. And well documented thanks to a courageous woman. What difference did this phone call make in Georgia? *** Host: Jasmin Brock; Reporter: Jasper Ruppert
Ah, Friday! What a great way to kick off the weekend. Even one we know will likely be kind of stressful! But longtime friend-of-the-show Ian Reifowitz has an abundance of (appropriately tempered) optimism to share with you! Starting with early voting information, which we can get away with because Greg wasn't here. But you don't have to just take his word for it. You can take his word for the fact that someone else's word says there's reason for optimism. There's a new sequel to “economic anxiety” coming out. People may be wrong about what's happening, why, and what to do about it. But they've each got a vote. Leon Musk's voter “lottery” is probably illegal, the DOJ says. But “Who gives a crap about the law?”, Musk says. You know who else doesn't give a crap about the law, but does not look like a deflating basketball? Jared Kushner! Isn't that guy basically a paid agent of Saudish Arabia? Brad Raffensperger says there won't be any non-citizens voting in Georgia this time. And yet, this will make Donald Trump even madder at him. Remember that optimism Ian left us with? Let's destroy it! Trump's path to cheating his way back into the White House is narrower than ever, but are there armed weirdos out there who are crazy enough to try it? Sure. Welcome to would-be-Mogadishu, North Carolina.
This week on Face the Nation, with more than two weeks to go until Election Day 2024, the candidates are picking up the pace in the battleground states to make their final pitches to voters. We talk with Georgia Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock about the state of the race in Georgia as Vice President Harris comes off a string of campaign stops in the Peach State…. Early voting is underway in most of the country, with record turnout in some battleground states. We talk with two secretaries of state, Georgia's Brad Raffensperger and Michigan's Jocelyn Benson… New York Republican Mike Lawler, who is running in a close House race, will also join us as Republicans fight to keep control of the House…. Finally, in his first interview since becoming a free man, Paul Whelan joins us to recount the five and half years he was wrongfully detained in a Russian prison.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Chuck explores how Vice President Kamala Harris' statements about President Biden hurt her campaign message. Plus, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger talks about his state's historic early vote totals.
Donald Trump may face a crucial turn in his criminal case in Georgia following a development that could see District Attorney Fani Willis disqualified from his election proceedings. This new development throws a major twist into what could contribute to an already tumultuous chapter in Trump's post-presidency life. Fani Willis has been a key figure in the pursuit of justice since allegations of election fraud surfaced in Georgia following the 2020 American Presidential elections. However, this new development can potentially throw Trump's legal affairs into a tailspin. If Willis is indeed disqualified, the ensuing legal complexities could significantly hinder progress on the case. The fallout from the state's high-stakes election has continued to intensify. Claims of fraudulent voting were made. Trump refused to accept his loss to Democrat Joe Biden, with the former standing by unfounded allegations of widespread voting fraud. Such claims have given way to a range of legal challenges, with Fani Willis at the helm.Willis has been instrumental in closely examining Trump's behavior in Georgia following the election. This includes a phone call with Georgia's Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, in which Trump seemingly pressured him to "find" additional votes that would tip the election in his favor. If Willis becomes disqualified, it could mean a major reshuffle of the legal team seeking answers into possible election offenses made by Trump.A disqualification of Willis could potentially cause the case to lag, providing Trump's defense team with an opportunity to regroup and restructure their defense strategy. Hence, delivering potential tactical changes. Interestingly, this drama is unfolding while another figure, Jack Smith, is steadily gaining media attention. Smith, an investigator with the DeKalb County District's Attorney's Office, has been probing into the matter and gaining a reputation as a steadfast seeker of truth. With his solid investigative history, Smith is devoted to helping ensure that justice will be served, despite any resulting turmoil from Willis' potential disqualification. His involvement in the Trump investigation underscores his commitment to his role and resolution in presenting verifiable facts. In summary, the potential disqualification of District Attorney Fani Willis from Trump's criminal case stands to introduce further complications to an already tangled web of legal issues. Meanwhile, individuals like Jack Smith are on standby, readily focusing their abilities on unraveling this complex, high-stakes affair. As we continue to watch developments unfold in Georgia, the question remains: What will this mean for Trump's criminal case and his claim of election fraud?
Normies are all still talking about Arlington. Good! The journalists, of course, are anxious to move on to the burgeoning scandal of Kamala Harris sitting down for an interview with CNN. Clearly there's something wrong with this! At a minimum, they'd have to make sure Trump retains an advantage in his grading curve. Governor Moderate Vest's flagship public university may be going the way of Meatball Ron. Brad Raffensperger and Brian Kemp wouldn't do Trump's bidding last time around. But will nuisance lawsuits and new rules adopted by MAGA officials clear the way to change their minds, or harden their resolve? Amazingly, it might actually be the latter! Don't get the wrong idea, though! MAGA Gop loons in other “red” states are still intent on running wild. And Rosalyn MacGregor reports that things haven't settled down crazy-wise in Michigan, either, where the weirdos are on a swatting tear. And with just 19 days left before Trump's still-scheduled sentencing in New York, Liberal Thinking has done some… liberal thinking about how that could and should go.
It takes a big person to stop, collaborate and listen (sorry; had to) and thanks to frequent show guest Marilyn Marks, executive director at the Coalition for Good Governance, that's not all I've done when it comes to the Georgia Elections Board's antics of late; it's made me come to realize the "MAGA 3" are actually trying enact some policies and procedures to make election tabulating/canvassing more transparent and accurate. Now look; I'm not saying their motives aren't to aid Donald Trump's 2024 goals (likely so) or that they're not trying to placate his ego by re-litigating 2020 in Fulton County (they are), but what if all this leads to Georgia and it's 159 counties getting their Election Day/night processes cleaned up, aren't we all better for it? Marilyn provides a great example - Coffee County (yeah, that one) mishandled its May 2024 elections tabulating and - even with a MAGA majority, the Coalition for Good Governance got their elections board to see the errors in their system. Why are Democrats and progressive groups defending the state's awful system just six years after berating it in the aftermath of Stacy Abrams' defeat? Hard to explain, but I've a theory I shared with Marilyn. Why is Brad Raffensperger derelict in his duties as Secretary of State (and as a non-voting elections board member until July)? Marilyn spells that out, too.
In this episode of "Hawk Droppings," our host Hawk goes on an impassioned rant about the upcoming 2024 election that's hotter than Rudy Giuliani's infamous COVID-spreading fart cloud. Hawk dives into the shenanigans of election denial groups, new voting laws, and Republican efforts to "ensure election integrity" (wink wink) with all the subtlety of a bull in a ballot box shop. Our fearless podcaster takes us on a whirlwind tour of swing states, red states, and blue states, painting a picture so vivid you'd think he was using hair dye that runs down the side of his face. He's particularly fixated on turning Texas bluer than a Smurf eating blueberries, fantasizing about it like it's the political equivalent of winning the Powerball lottery.By the end, Hawk is more fired up than a Fourth of July fireworks display, encouraging listeners to get involved in the election process. Just remember, if you do get arrested while following his advice, don't talk to the police - sage wisdom from a man who clearly knows how to keep things light and breezy when discussing the potential downfall of democracy. Brad Raffensperger, who holds the usually low-profile office of secretary of state in Georgia, became famous after he recorded a phone call with Donald Trump. Shortly after the 2020 election, Trump demanded that Georgia officials “find 11,780 votes” so that he could win the state. The recorded phone conversation is a linchpin in the Fulton County racketeering case against Trump. Refusing that demand, Raffensperger—a lifelong Republican—received death threats from enraged Trumpists, and the state senate still wants to investigate him for it. But the politician tells David Remnick that he hasn't lost faith in his party. He believes he can convince election deniers of the fairness of Georgia's methods. And, by the way, that story line on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” about the Georgia crime of giving a person water while they wait in line to vote? Raffensperger has a suggestion for Larry David.

Bruce discusses his relationship with Donald Trump going back to 1990. In 2015 DT says to Bruce, “I'm in…” and so begins a whirlwind campaign journey for the Presidency. Bruce says 90% of Trump's original coalition is still in tact. Bruce discusses his original article, “Recruiting Woke Warriors” and describes his knowledge of the original Fani Willis. He explains how and why the original grand jury was not looking into election tampering, in Georgia in particular. He refers to the ‘co-conspirators' that were anxious to intimidate and pressure those that sought to investigate election fraud. He explains why Brad Raffensperger, former Georgia Secretary of State, did nothing to examine Trump's election fraud claim.Bruce LeVell ~ Trump Advisor ~ Pending Opinion From SCOTUS on Presidential Power/ImmunityORIGINAL MEDIA SOURCE(S):Originally Recorded on April 8, 2024America Beyond the Noise: Season 2, Episode 243Image courtesy of: GeneValentino.com Join the Conversation: https://GeneValentino.com WMXI Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/NewsRadio981 More WMXI Interviews: https://genevalentino.com/wmxi-interviews/ More GrassRoots TruthCast Episodes: https://genevalentino.com/grassroots-truthcast-with-gene-valentino/ More Broadcasts with Gene as the Guest: https://genevalentino.com/america-beyond-the-noise/ More About Gene Valentino: https://genevalentino.com/about-gene-valentino/
The First Lady of Georgia, Marty Kemp, says she hasn't decided whether to vote for Donald Trump despite her husband's statement that the former president would be “better than Joe Biden.” But first, Melita Easters, founder and executive director of the Georgia WIN List, joins the podcast to discuss how her organization goes about identifying and supporting pro-choice Democratic women for seats in the legislature. And she offers her thoughts on the role she believes the restrictions being placed on abortion in Georgia and elsewhere will have on races this year. Then, Deputy Secretary of State Jordan Fuchs tells the podcast that voters should see little difference in voting procedures when they cast ballots in the upcoming election. She also comments on the humorous letter Brad Raffensperger wrote to Larry David in response to the comedian's spoof on a Georgia election law on his show “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Plus, GOP state chairman Josh McKoon is leading an effort to remove first vice-chair of the party Brian Pritchard, who a judge ruled has voted illegally numerous times. Brad Raffensperger isn't taking any guff from Hollywood star Larry David. The podcast hosts discuss the playful letter Georgia's secretary of state sent to David after David's show, “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” poked fun at a state law that prevents the distribution of water and food to people waiting in line to vote within 150 feet of a polling place. But first, Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns discusses his take on the ups and downs of the just-concluded 2024 legislative session. He talks about his reaction to the failure of a bill to suspend mining operations near the Okefenokee Swamp. The 75th House speaker also explains why the House didn't pass Medicaid expansion and the so-called culture war issues sent over from the Senate. And on the other side of the aisle, state Rep. Jasmine Clark joins the podcast to give a Democratic perspective on the outcome of the session. Find Me the Votes: A Hard-Charging Georgia Prosecutor, a Rogue President, and the Plot to Steal an American Election by Michael Isikoff, Daniel Klaidman https://amzn.to/3SE6CWt From veteran award-winning investigative journalists Michael Isikoff and Daniel Klaidman, the epic inside story of the prosecution of a president. In Find Me the Votes, two years of immersive reporting by Isikoff and Klaidman has produced the most authoritative and dramatic account yet of a defeated president's conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election and how a local Georgia prosecutor—a daughter of the civil rights movement—decided to indict him and his allies for his desperate attempt to hold on to power. From the beginning, Fani Willis saw Donald Trump's crimes as a voting rights case, and an attempt by the former president to deprive the citizens of Georgia of the franchise, a right for which her forebears had bled. Isikoff and Klaidman take us deep inside both the nerve center of Trump's effort to steal the election and the DA's team of prosecutors as they build their case against the president. Their reporting reveals new information on the plot to criminally seize voting equipment in several states; Sidney Powell's attempt to obtain preemptive pardons from Trump; and revelatory communications between the president and his co-conspirators. We see the prosecution take shape in Willis's office in the face of heinous threats of violent retaliation from Trump's supporters. With blockbuster original reporting and exclusive access to thousands of secret documents, emails, text messages, and audio recordings, Find Me the Votes is investigative journalism at its finest. The authors also conducted exclusive interviews with key sources in the Trump conspiracy, as well as with the president's top targets, including Georgia secretary of state Brad Raffensperger and the Fulton County DA's team–featuring hours of interviews with Fani Willis herself. This is riveting contemporary history, and a lasting account of the prosecution of a president who tested the rule of law as no president ever had before. Isikoff and Klaidman have written a story for the ages.About the Authors Michael Isikoff is an award-winning Washington investigative journalist and the author of three New York Times bestsellers: Uncovering Clinton: A Reporter's Story; Hubris: The Inside Story of Spin, Scandal and the Selling of the Iraq War (with David Corn); and Russian Roulette: The Inside Story of Putin's War on America and the Election of Donald Trump (also with David Corn). He has worked for the Washington Post, Newsweek, NBC News, and Yahoo News and is a frequent guest on CNN, MSNBC, and other networks. He lives with his wife and son in Washington, D.C. Daniel Klaidman is an award-winning journalist and author based in Brooklyn. He spent more than a decade at Newsweek, where he served as managing editor, Washington Bureau chief, Middle East correspondent, and investigative reporter. Klaidman was a key part of the teams that won National Magazine Awards for Newsweek's coverage of 9/11 and the Monica Lewinsky affair. He previously served as Ferris Professor of Journalism at Princeton University and is the author of Kill or Capture: The War on Terror and the Soul of the Obama Presidency. On today's episode of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's "Politically Georgia" representatives of the secretary of state's office to talk about the battles Brad Raffensperger is fighting on two fronts. The Legislature is making a second effort to give the State Election Board the responsibility to oversee the operations of the secretary of state's office in managing elections. And the office is now in federal court defending itself in a lawsuit filed by a liberal voting rights group that alleges the state's Dominion voting machines are vulnerable to hacking. Then, the South Carolina Democratic presidential primary is sneaking up on most political observers. It will take place in a little more than one week. Meanwhile, Nikki Haley is doing her best to goad Donald Trump into revealing the worst aspects of his character as the South Carolina Republican primary campaign gets underway. AJC Savannah bureau chief Adam Van Brimmer joins the conversation. Plus, the state Senate appears set to pass a bill defining antisemitism. The measure would make it easier to punish antisemitic acts under Georgia's hate crimes law. EPISODE 101 | Panic! at the Disco - The Jan. 6 Event (World Is Weird 12) On January 6, 2021 at 12:53 EST, a mass of people overwhelmed police on the west side of the US Capitol Building in Washington DC. At 2:11, a window was broken, and they entered the building. What followed was a bizarre scene, with some happy to just wander around, while others had more active plans. When it was over, 5 people were dead, 138 law enforcement personnel were injured (15 needing hospitalization), and an untold number of civilians were also injured. Eventually, more than 1100 people would be charged with various crimes committed that day. What exactly happened here? Rep. Austin Scott, the senior member of Georgia's GOP House delegation spent much of last week fuming over the GOP conference's inability to elect a new candidate for Speaker of the House. And so on Friday, with Jim Jordan poised to be the only declared candidate in the race, Scott surprised his colleagues, the Capitol Hill press corps, and almost his own wife, and declared himself a candidate for the position. Scott lost to Jordan, but emerged from his status as a little-known maverick conservative into the national spotlight. The AJC's Tia Mitchell, Patricia Murphy, Greg Bluestein, and Bill Nigut look at the factors that led Scott to launch his last-minute surprise bid and where his sudden prominence could take him next. And Tia Mitchell evaluates the likelihood that Republicans will rally to name Jordan speaker this week. Plus, Governor Brian Kemp had his own moment in the GOP sun again this past weekend when he mingled with big wig Republican donors and leaders at their Sea Island, Georgia, meeting. Is Kemp laying the groundwork to run for U.S. Senate against Senator Jon Ossoff in 2026? The hosts weigh. And they look at the future potential aspirations of Brad Raffensperger, Burt Jones, Chris Carr and other state Republicans; and speculate on Democrats who may be considering stepping up for statewide races. You'll also get a look at the split in the language Democratic and Republican legislators are using in statements of support for Israel in the war against Hamas. Have a question for the show? David Waldman welcomes Greg Dworkin for only the second time this week. Not that Greg isn't always welcome, it's just that we are running short of days this week... Yes, President Joe Biden is old. He's not as old as Mitch McConnell, that's for sure. In fact, Joe Biden is every bit as young as Mick Jagger! And yet, no one can stop handwringing about Joe's age… Doesn't that make you feel so ANGRY? Well, repurpose that anger into moving democratic and Democratic ideals forward and changing what can be changed. At least Biden can't be impeached over “age” lies. The coach who wanted to promote Christian theocracy in high school football was fired. The Christian theocratic Supreme Court wouldn't allow it. The coach could quit though, once he proved his point after one game. Florida home-schoolers school each other on how to game the state for Disney tickets, PS5s, and big-screen TVs. TFFG is legal trouble. He lost, he's losing, and he's set to be the losing-est loser who ever lose-ed. Evidence keeps building, co-defendants keep flipping, judges are already tiring of him. All of his followers and associates are being herded into court like cattle through a stockade. Peter Navarro and John Eastman qualify for the express lane. Brad Raffensperger though is but a simple “Secretary of the State of Georgia”, he can't take Donald Trump off the ballot as if he was some sort of rule-breaker! The war between the states rages on. At least the war between state Gops and the rule of law. And in Texas, Greg Abbott isn't allowed to send migrants through buoys, nets and buzz saw blades anymore.
