During the time of this recording, Wednesday, November 9th, the final results of the US mid term elections are uncertain, but trending towards an outcome in which the Democrats are likely to hold the Senate and Republicans gain control of the House of Representatives. At stake in these elections of course is control of Congress, which has a unique role to play in shaping US foreign policy. Congress approves budgets and spending on foreign affairs and foreign aid, confirms nominees for Ambassadors and senior positions at State Department, Defense Department and elsewhere, and provides oversight over the executive branch, among many other roles. In this episode, originally recorded as a live Twitter Spaces, we are joined by Matt Duss, a visiting scholar in the American Statecraft program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace to discuss the foreign policy implications of the US mid term elections. From 2017 to 2022, Matt Duss served as the foreign policy advisor to Senator Bernie Sanders. In our conversation we discuss the role Congress plays in shaping US foreign policy before having a longer conversation about the concrete foreign policy implications of the the 2022 US Mid terms.

The whole world is watching the US midterm elections: the first since Russia's invasion of Ukraine fuelled soaring inflation and the first federal elections since Trump supporters stormed the Capitol. We ask about the issues that have pollsters predicting a win for opposition Republicans and what to make of anticipated record turnout in many races.
Dr Richard Johnson, Lecturer in US Politics and Policy at Queen Mary University, discusses the latest developments in the lead-up to the US midterm elections.

Midterm Elections Special | Many Americans are preparing to head to the polls on November 8, 2022 for the US Midterm Elections. Following the elections of 2020, many are worried about the rise of election denial and the growing distrust of electoral systems. Rebekah Caruthers, the Vice President of the Fair Elections Center, advocates for election security, the safety of elections officials, and equal voting access for all American citizens. In this episode of How to Fix Democracy, she joins host Andrew Keen to discuss the implications for the 2022 Midterm Elections and gives advice for citizens on Election Day.
As the United States prepares to hold national elections for the first time since the January 6th Capitol riots, tensions are running extremely high. The Department of Homeland Security has warned that misinformation and conspiracy theories continue to fan the flames of domestic extremism. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband was recently beaten with a hammer by an intruder, who told police he was on a “suicide mission” and had plans to attack other politicians. One Decision sits down with the BBC's US Special Correspondent Katty Kay, recently returned from a tour of battleground states - where some people told her that if elections didn't go their way, they would pick up their arms. America's democracy and stability could hang in the balance next week.
Sean Whelan, Washington Correspondent, reports from Arizona in the United States ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
Catholic Crackdown: The Arizona Conference of Catholic Bishops has publicly denounced a pro-life and pro-family Catholic nonprofit, just days before the US Midterm Elections. The Culture of Death, LGBT agenda, and so much more are being pushed on Catholics — with leadership doing nothing to inform the faithful of how to build a culture of life. LifeSiteNews has stepped in, offering clarity & guidance during the most important midterm election season to date. Get the full interview with John Yep of Catholics for Catholics to hear what Arizona Church leadership insists on silencing. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
It's the kind of hyperbolic claim usually made by partisan contenders: "This is the most important election of your life" or "This year, democracy is on the ballot". But with candidates who deny the results of the 2020 presidential election running in races across the United States—and some of them poised to take over posts literally overseeing vote counting in future elections—non-partisan institutions and journalists are sounding the alarm. What should Canadians expect from our neighbours on November 8 and beyond? Is political violence at the polls a real possibility? What does it mean for our own political future if America continues to slide away from democratic norms?GUEST: James McCarten, Washington correspondent, The Canadian Press

It is less than two weeks from now that the United States will have its midterm elections– You know, those are the entire House of Representatives. That's the congress is up for re-election as there are over two years, a third of the important senate are up for grabs. And of course the whole thing is a form of a proxy vote on the President of the United States. He is not at the ballot box until two years from now, if he does indeed run, of course, there are other races at the state level. A lot of the governors are up for grabs. Our favorite guy, Ron de Santis is in a battle. Let's talk about this because I think there is a lot of momentum these days that suggests the republicans might do very well. I've never seen polling that looks so bad for the democrats. I took you through that New York Times poll before showing you the shocking numbers of Americans who feel the country's on the wrong track and who incredibly think the media is the threat to democracy.
