This week three years ago, we told the story of “Operation Christmas Drop” after discovering the oldest ongoing Department of Defense mission - the world's longest running humanitarian airdrop - to deliver critical supplies to remote islands in the Pacific. On 12/14/24, Operation Christmas Drop at Andersen Airforce Base in Guam was another success, and the 73rd annual drop delivered 220 bundles to 58 islands, helping more than 42,000 people. Ron Hirschberg and Lucy Little told this story in 2021 including Zoom interviews east to Guam with (now) former President of OCD2021 Air Force Capt. Matt Carrowan, and north to Canada with the 2021 Netflix Movie "Operation Christmas Drop" Director, Martin Wood. Happy holidays all and enjoy this amazing story of giving, and making a true difference for thousands of people every year. Happy holidays everyone! We continue our tradition from last year as Jordan's sister Carmen returns to the show to talk the disastrous Netflix Christmas movie, Operation Christmas Drop. Nothing says holiday romance like the military industrial complex, out of context Gaelic Christmas carols, and a cartoon CGI gecko. We also discuss the real life history of Guam, what the Blackest Christmas song is, and Trump NFT's. We love you and hope you have a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones. Take care of yourselves and stay warm! We'll be back to wrap up the year in Black culture, but until then you can find us on Twitter at @white_pod or email us at whitepeoplewontsaveyoupod@gmail.com

Operation Christmas Drop - Official Trailer / NetflixThe Guam Daily Post - Article on OCDLearn more about OCD:"Operation Christmas Drop is the world's longest running humanitarian airdrop training mission, providing critical supplies to many Micronesian islands, impacting more than 20,000 people across 1.8 million square nautical miles of operating area. The drop is the oldest ongoing Department of Defense mission which remains in full operation. The operation was first conducted in 1951, when the aircrew of a WB-29 aircraft assigned to the 54th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, formerly assigned to Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, was flying a mission to the south of Guam over the Micronesian atoll of Kapingamarangi. When they saw the islanders waving to them, the crew quickly gathered some items they had on the plane, placed them in a container with a parachute attached and dropped the cargo as they circled again. In 2015, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and the Royal Australian Air Force participated in the operation along with the United States Air Force. Japan and Australia each provided one C-130 Hercules to join the three C-130s provided by the United States. In 2019, Royal New Zealand Air Force has joined Operation Christmas Drop. This is also 7th year in a row that allied partners from the Japan Self-Defense Force and the Royal Australian Air Force have participated This year 2021, South Korea joins our AF in the largest to date, 200 bundles and 57 islands…"_____Photo Credit: 374th Airlift Wing Public AffairsMusic and sound design by Lucy Little Ukelele and piano played by Cheryl FreezeChristmas music at 09:00 from Free Music Archive, by Scott Holmes Music...Thank you to Dr. April Hirschberg for the episode inspiration!_____If you are your loved one is experiencing any emotional, mental health struggles, you are not alone and please contact Home Base 617-724-5202, or www.homebase.org SUBSCRIBE to Home Base NationTo learn more and connect with us at Home Base Nation:www.homebase.org/homebasenationTwitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedInHome Base Nation Team: Steve Monaco, Maureen Roderick, Laurie Gallagher, Karianne Kraus, Lucy Little, and COO Michael Allard and Brigadier General Jack HammondProducer and Host: Dr. Ron HirschbergProducer, Editor: Lucy LittleHome Base Nation is the official podcast of Home Base Program for Veterans and Military Families, a partnership of the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Red Sox Foundation. The views expressed by guests to the Home Base Nation podcast are their own and their appearance on the program does not imply an endorsement of them or any entity they represent. A blast from the past teaches a town to embrace tradition and believe in miracles we simply can't explain. A cynical urban professional finds kindness and purpose while traveling through the heartland. Two old flames living in the fast lane discover, amid the magic of Christmas, that they were meant for each other all along. These loglines describe the plots of countless movies made for and broadcast by Hallmark, the famed greeting card company-turned-media conglomerate that has become synonymous with made-for-TV Christmas movies. The Hallmark Cinematic Universe is one in which the fantasies of conservatives everywhere are played out: everyone in town is part of a white nuclear family, bartenders and waiters are happy to be of service, single women are emotionally unfulfilled, police and the military are uniformly viewed as heroes, and the largesse of the wealthy brings joy to wholesome small towns. While it's easy, and of course fun, to dunk on Hallmark and Hallmark-inspired Christmas movies, it's also worth examining the political currents of Christmas movie schmaltz. What ideological precepts are their themes of nostalgia meant to reinforce? And what tropes do they perpetuate behind the cozy iconography of fuzzy sweaters and snow-lined sidewalks? On this episode, we seek to answer these questions, focusing on four movies: Journey Back to Christmas (2016), The Christmas Train (2017), Entertaining Christmas (2018), and Operation Christmas Drop (2020). We'll dive into the ways in which nostalgia for an imaginary MAGA-style past informs their character development, settings, and plots, leaving little room for messaging other than ‘Let's go back to the good old days.' Our guest is writer David Roth.
This week, Alan, Quinta and Scott were joined by their fellow Lawfare senior editor and Brookings Institution fellow Molly Reynolds! They sat down to discuss the week's national security news, including:“Winners Use Google Slides.” The January 6 committee has revealed some of the texts and emails handed over by former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows, including a notorious powerpoint presentation laying out apparent plans for a coup. What do these revelations tell us about what happened on January 6—and what our expectations should be of the committee?“The Smog of War.” A top secret cell of elite U.S. soldiers is accused of manufacturing ambiguity on the battlefield in order to evade legal and policy limits on the targeting of civilians. What do these allegations mean for the way America fights its wars?“8 Simple Rules for Legislating in an Age of Disorder.” Progressive Democrats have urged their leadership to overrule the Senate parliamentarian's determination that bills passed through the filibuster-proof budget reconciliation process can't include certain types of immigration reforms. Do these demands threaten the operation of the Senate? Or is something entirely different at stake? For object lessons, Quinta passed along a fool-proof holiday cookie recipe. Alan noted a list of blockbusters he was looking forward to enjoying over Chinese food this Christmas. Molly recommended a somewhat unlikely legislative procedure-themed holiday movie, "Operation Christmas Drop." And Scott urged listeners to watch the holiday classic, "The Muppet Christmas Carol," which Disney+ has only recently restored to its full glory. Also, Rational Security is hoping to close out the year with a mailbag episode! So if you have any burning questions you want the RatSec crew to answer, wild hypotheticals you want them to suss out, or object lessons you want to share, no matter how serious or how frivolous, be sure to email them to rationalsecurity@lawfareblog.com before December 22.Be sure to visit our show page at www.lawfareblog.com and to follow us on Twitter at @RatlSecurity. Merry Christmas! For 69-years the US Air Force has performed what has become the oldest continuing Department of Defense mission and the longest-running humanitarian airlift in the world. Every year, the multinational Operation Christmas Drop brings school supplies, clothing, rice, fishing equipment, and toys to more than 50 remote Pacific islands throughout the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of Palau. Utilizing Air Force C-130J "Super Hercules" aircraft, the operation also gives the Airmen the opportunity to practice humanitarian aid drops, as they'll later be expected to conduct drops over countries like Iraq or Afghanistan after deployment.
