We covet your prayers for our ministry, the thousands we reach, and our team! Contact us to let us know you are praying for us! NEW! Another way to partner with us is to purchase our workbooks and online Bible studies. We keep them at the lowest possible cost, but they require a lot of work from us! For example, - a complete Bible Study requires an average of 500 man-hours. - a workbook for a series requires almost 100 man-hours. MORE ABOUT PARTNERING WITH US FINANCIALLY: Gospel Spice Ministries is a non-profit organization registered under the tax-exempt 501c3 status. Our goal is to provide in-depth, high-quality, free Bible resources for all. They are free, but expensive to create! We need your financial support to keep producing and distributing them. They come to you completely free, but we would truly love your support. We want the money to go to those who really need it. Once our operating costs are paid, 100% of your donation is redistributed to our partners who fight human trafficking. Each year, we aim to give as much as we can. For example, Stephanie works more than full time for Gospel Spice, entirely for free. All board members and volunteers are donating time. We limit our operational expenses to the bare minimum. Your pay-it-forward donations are tax-deductible under IRS Section 170. We want to be the best possible stewards of your financial support. Thank you! Go to gospelspice.com for more, and go especially to gospelspice.com/podcast to enjoy our guests! Interested in our blog? Click here: gospelspice.com/blog What matters to us here at Gospel Spice is to create a place where people who seek deeper intimacy with Jesus, will find Him. We want a warm, welcoming atmosphere to journey ever deeper into the heart of God. We believe it is the ultimate calling of the Christian life, and I like to summarize it with my motto, God's glory, our delight. That is why we invite you to “taste and see” that the Lord is good. And we have been doing this every day since 2019. We need YOU to keep Gospel Spice alive and growing. Financially speaking, we rely on people who understand this vision and who understand that we cannot function without a minimum budget. We run an extremely tight budget. For example, I work full time but don't draw a salary. And yet, we have expenses – for example, the equipment and technology we use, and also the wonderfully gifted staff who make it possible to deliver high quality content all around the globe, and then the necessary occasional promotional budget to make it possible to be discovered by those who seek to live a life spiced with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We need your help. So we would love for you to consider if this ministry is blessing you to pay gospel spice forward. You can partner with us monthly with 10, 25, 50, 100, a month, or you can make one donation, once. And because we are a register nonprofit organization in the United States under the status of a 501c3 charity, it means that the amount that you pay to gospel spice is fully tax deductible. Completely tax deductible. So you're even saving money as you invest in gospel spice ministries. It is an eternal investment, and we are very grateful to you for it. Now it's very important to us that we give back as much as possible from what you give us. And so we commit to giving the majority of what we receive, once all of our administrative costs are paid, to organizations that fight human trafficking on the front line. There are many worthwhile causes in the world, so why this one? Because I have always personally felt deep compassion for victims of human trafficking – maybe because I have never been its victim myself, so I feel a responsibility to help those less fortunate than me. Also, because Jesus tells us to love our neighbor. Human trafficking is modern day slavery, and that is something that revolts the heart of God. We want to play our part in raising awareness and then financially supporting those who fight this great evil. So, we do some due diligence. We pick organizations who have proven themselves trustworthy of our support. And then we give money to these Christians organizations that fight human trafficking. So would you consider paying us forward at gospelspice.com/payitforward? Your hard-earned money is always well used at Gospel Spice. Ultimately, you are giving back to the Kingdom, a portion of what Jesus has given you. We are well aware of the privilege to steward your partnership. And my prayer is always that you will find your own life spiced with the gospel as you partner with us to flavor the lives of those around us, near and far, with the spice of the gospel. Support us on Gospel Spice, PayPal and Venmo!

Sunday Service: 12/08 | Christmas At The Movies | Joyeux Noel
Host Doug Stuart sits down with renowned film critic and author Abby Olcese to explore the intricate intersections of film, faith, and the liturgical calendar. Abby's new book, Film for All Seasons: Experiencing the Church Year at the Movies, forms the crux of this stimulating discussion, inviting listeners to see movies as more than mere entertainment but as avenues for spiritual and cultural introspection. The conversation begins with a delightful nod to the upcoming Paddington 3, encouraging listeners to revisit the first two charming installments. Abby then introduces Joyeux Noel, bringing a poignant cinematic portrayal of the World War I Christmas truce into the fold. This sets the stage for a deeper dive into the themes of Lent, where Abby explains her thoughtful selection of films like "Annihilation" and "Groundhog Day" to navigate through themes of mortality, repentance, and self-awareness.As Doug shares his fascination with liturgical rhythms and their underappreciation in American low church traditions, Abby enriches the dialogue with insights from her church background, reflecting influences from her time as an Episcopal ministry intern. They bond over the transformative power of films such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Fast and Furious 6 in embodying ecclesiastical themes of diversity and unity, particularly resonating with the spirit of Pentecost.Exploring the evolving landscape of film criticism, Abby passionately argues for the importance of historical context in understanding movies. A robust discussion unfolds around how classic films like Top Gun and Night of the Hunter reflect societal attitudes of their times, paralleling her views on the lasting influence of well-crafted narratives. The show takes an intriguing turn as Doug and Abby delve into contemporary television's shift towards streaming, critiquing the impact of immediate performance metrics on long-form storytelling. They appreciate the quality and richness of limited series on platforms like Apple TV, using Blackbird and Bad Monkey as exemplary cases.Abby's narratives come full circle as she illustrates how films can serve as spiritual reflections for themes churches might miss, inspiring hope, love, and inclusivity. This episode is a treasure trove for listeners, whether cinephiles, faith-seekers, or both, offering unique perspectives on how movies like Paddington, The Last Jedi, and The Bishop's Wife can enrich one's spiritual journey.Audio Production by Podsworth Media - https://podsworth.com ★ Support this podcast ★

We last saw her in “A Biltmore Christmas” in 2023 with Kristoffer Polaha, before that she was in “An Unexpected Christmas” with Tyler Hynes. According to LinkedIn, Brian is the president of Candlelight Media Group,Inc. where they make a lot of Hallmark-esque movies. This week we talk with Hollywood power couple and writing team, Kimberly and Brant Daugherty. Just in time for the holiday season, we chat all about how they went from dating, to writing partners, how they sold and starred in their first Christmas movie (A Christmas Movie Christmas), what inspired their latest Hallmark Christmas hit (Joyeux Noel), how writing and directing has helped them grow as actors, and all the projects they have on the horizon. This is one busy couple, and we are so grateful for their time. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO HEAR: 2:17: Kimberly's origin story. What brought her to LA and how she got into acting. How she got her SAG card, booked her first movie and got her first reps. 8:07: How Kimberly found SKS and started taking acting class with us. What is her favorite part of the SKS acting and audition training style. 10:01: Brant's origin story. How he went from behind the scenes as a PA on Bring it On, to getting an agent and jump starting his acting career. (Thank you Holland Roden)! 12:07 Brant and Kimberly meeting at Holland's birthday dinner 10 years before they actually started dating. 14:54 Brant may best be known for his role on Pretty Little Liars, but find out what role is most dear to him to date. 20:22 How Brant and Kimberly became writing partners a year after dating and what they learned from each other in the process. 22:01 How the concept for A Christmas Movie Christmas was born! 26:43 The process of getting the movie sold to Marvista Entertainment (which happened a lot faster than you might think!) 28:49 Was it always a given that they would play the leads, or was that something they were willing to give up, if they had to, in order to get the film made. Was it hard to wear so many hats on set, as both writers and actors? 33:53 How they manage the highs and the lows of this business. 37:50 All about their most recent Hallmark Christmas movie, Joyeux Noel, which recently premiered on the Hallmark Channel and was the most watched cable program of the ENTIRE day!! 41:40: “I think you guys have hacked life. ‘I want to go to Europe, I want to see these markets. Let's write it, set it in Europe, pitch it, do it. Live our best life' 41:54: “Someone is out there doing that, and why shouldn't it be us? Someone's got that job…why not me” – Brant Daugherty 42:07: What would they tell our listeners who are feeling inspired by this episode? What is one actionable thing they could do today to get on the track of writing a project or creating something? 49:01 How Brant's 1 episode arc on Pretty Little Liars turned into 7 seasons! 51:10 “My goal every day was not to get fired” – Brant Daugherty 51:24 What's next for this dyanamic duo (besides having a 2.5 year old AND a newborn on the way!!) Abby and Kelsy deal with the weird movies from week 2: Christmas By Design, not sequel Mystic Christmas and Joyeux Noel.
The latest episode of Girls Gone Hallmark is all about Hallmark Channel's newest original movie "3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost." It's a hauntingly good episode where Megan and Wendy talk about Hallmark's new era, the charming Madeleine Arthur, and a few 'Did You See That' moments. Don't be scared to give it a listen – it's a real "spirited" discussion! If you enjoy listening to Girls Gone Hallmark, we could definitely use your 5-star ratings and written reviews on your preferred podcast platform. Apple Podcast listeners: Use your phone's podcast app -> find the Girls Gone Hallmark show -> scroll all the way down to the review section -> tap 5 stars and tell listeners why Girls Gone Hallmark is your favorite Hallmark podcast. Hallmark News - October 2023 TMZ reported that the Queen of Christmas Lacey Chabert recently reunited with Mean Girls co-stars Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Seyfried to film a Pepsi ad. Me thinks this might be a Super Bowl ad, maybe? Brant Daughtery announced that he and his wife, Kimberly, are expecting a second baby in early 2024. Daughtery will next be seen in this year's hardest to pronounce title “Joyeux Noel” on October 29th. We're starting to see posters for the Countdown to Christmas movies emerge! And commercials on Hallmark Channel. What do you think of the "Christmas on Cherry Lane" poster? About "3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost" Stars Julie Gonzalo and Chris McNally. These two are a real life couple - though I'm not sure if they are married. Seems like they are super private. They did have a baby in June 2022. Gonzalo plays Anna. She has 48 acting credits including Cut, Color, Murder from 2022. We last reviewed her for fan-favorite movie Pumpkin Pie Wars. Chris McNally plays Elliott. Chris is known for his role as Lucas on When Call the Heart. He has 40 acting credits. Outside of Hallmark, he was seen in Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies and Firefly Lane - both from 2023. Madeleine Arthur plays ghost Ruby. She was a regular in the now canceled series "Blockbuster," she played Mae in "Devil in Ohio," and she played Chris in all three “To All the Boys I've Loved” movies. The story is by Gregg Rossen & Brian Sawyer. The teleplay included both Gregg Rossen, Brian Sawyer, and Joie Botkin. Gregg Rossen has written a TON of Hallmark movies including The Professional Bridesmaid, The Winter Palace, The Santa Stakeout and more. In fact, his IMDB reads like he's only written Hallmark movies. Brian Sawyer resume reads almost identical to Gregg Rossen. Joie Botkin is one of our favorite Hallmark writers. Her next Hallmark film is the Tyler Hynes movie "Never Been Chris'd." Filmed in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, in Canada — more precisely in Burnaby, which is located about 15 to 20 minutes outside of Vancouver. The movie was filmed from June 12 to June 30, 2023. The rural estate used is known as Copper Stone mansion located in Langley. Other television shows like "Riverdale," "Bates Motel," and "Supernatural" have also used the property. Join me as I discuss the classic Steve McQueen film, The Great Escape, with my good friend Patrick Stewart. Patrick served in the marines and has lived all over the world and has stories too numerous to mention here. One of the first things I ask my globe-trotting buddy is where is the best place to visit in all the world? I thought he'd say New Zealand, but I get a different answer. (Apparently he likes ostriches on beaches.) Patrick talks about how The Great Escape is one of the most popular movies in Europe. I bring up a great Christmas movie set during World War I called Joyeux Noel. Here is the IMDB page for that film.Patrick and I discuss if the prison in the movie was too soft, and why on earth the prisoners wanted to escape so bad? I would have been perfectly content riding out the war in that semi-country club. Some great background is given on the actual escape itself, thanks to Patrick. Turns out it's even crazier than the film suggests! And guess what? Some Germans were actually complacent in aiding the POW's with their escape. I love those types of redemption stories! "Who is today's Steve McQueen?" I ask. I end up providing the answer. It's hard to disagree with me, especially now in the wake of Top Gun: Maverick. (Forgive me, because I provide false information about the film.) Patrick, my very nice and honest friend, says that he would love to be the scrounger and blackmailer in a POW camp. And the movie is so dark! The ending is just depressing, and I wonder if today's audiences could handle this dark of a movie today. However, we do agree that this film, under the right direction, could be remade today - as long as that stupid, yet catchy, music is replaced. Is it Christ-like for POW's to foil their captors to try to escape? These POW's get set back time and time again. So to apply it to our lives, at what point do we know when to give up or when to keep pressing on? Patrick offers his take on this timeless question. And how are we supposed to process it if we pursue our passion or our joy and it doesn't work out? What happens then? I ask Patrick how we reconcile tragedy, citing George Floyd and random children getting hit by cars. (This is where I would have brought up Robb Elementary if it had taken place by the time of this recording.) Speaking of tragedy, does God allow evil to happen? We close out with some trivia questions and Patrick names three other desert island movies. InstagramFacebookTwitterEmail: Author.andrewtoy@gmail.comThis episode was sponsored by Spur Creative
We're in the home stretch of the look back at highlights from the first 100 episodes of Twelve Songs, with this episode getting into interviews during the pandemic when COVID affected everybody's plans. Guitarist and producer Chas Justus from Lafayette, Louisiana talks about how COVID made his collection of Cajun French versions of Chrlstmas classics--Joyeux Noel, Bon Chrismeusse--possible. I really appreciated getting romantic pianist and composer Jim Brickman on the show because someone who has 10 albums of Christmas music has a more nuanced take on it than those who have only dipped their toes in the water. We talked in 2020 about how his Christmas music relates to the music he makes the rest of the year. Many of my guests are indie musicians, in part because their music frequently lines up best with my aesthetics and ethics, but it's also important to me that we hear Christmas music as something people make today in a variety of forms and not simply nostalgia from our parents or grandparents' generations. Excerpts of conversations with retro soul artist Kelly Finnigan (who made the modern classic A Joyful Sound), Christian vocal group leader Ernie Haase, Jamie Hilsden of the Christmas punk band The Myrrhderers, and Amy Carlson of pop band Office Romance all come from that place, though the conversations are very different. I hope after hearing this show and the other retrospective shows in this series, you'll want to subscribe to Twelve Songs (if you haven't already), listen to back episodes, and tell your friends. I hope these looks back make it clear that conversations about Christmas music aren't necessarily about Christmas or to be set aside until that time of year.
