We’re counting down the top 10 Celtic bands you want to listen to for St Patrick’s Day 2021. Plus music from We Banjo 3, Lissa Schneckenburger, Screaming Orphans. Welcome to the Pub Songs Podcast, the Virtual Public House for Celtic Geek culture. I am your Guide. My name is Marc Gunn. Today’s show is brought to you by my Gunn Runners on Patreon. Subscribe to the podcast and download free music when you sign up at PubSong.com. WHO'S PLAYING IN THE PUB TODAY 0:26 - SONG: “Donald MacGillivray” 3:57 - WELCOME -- Post a review in Apple Podcasts. If you enjoy this show, please subscribe or post a review on Apple Podcasts. I’d love your feedback. -- A short story of what’s new with The Celtfather. -- St Patrick’s Day CD -- Listen to the show on how I’ll send you 3 MP3s from the St Patrick’s Day album. Now on sale. 6:25- SONG: “Danny Boy… For Cat Lovers” from Whiskers in the Jar 9:17 - TRAVEL WITH CELTIC INVASION VACATIONS. Every year, I take a small group of Celtic music fans on the relaxing adventure of a lifetime. We don't see everything. Instead, we stay in one area. We get to know the region through its culture, history, and legends. You can join us with an auditory and visual adventure through podcasts and videos. We’re going to Scotland in 2022. Join the invasion at http://celticinvasion.com/   10:31 - TOP 10 CELTIC BANDS FOR ST PATRICK’S DAY 2021 St Patrick’s Day is just around the corner. I love to read blogs and articles about Celtic music around St Patrick’s Day. But every year, it’s the exact same songs. IrishCentral is notorious for publishing a blog about the top 10 Celtic bands for St Patrick’s Day. It’s the same ones as always: The Dubliners, The Chieftains, The Clancy Brothers, The Pogues. All are great, but then they throw in U2, The Cranberries and Van Morrison. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy all of that music as much as the next Celtic music lover. But they will write for 2021 and use bands from 1968. I’m sorry. But times change. There are so many great Celtic bands. I think it’s a shame to settle on those bands when I’m gonna share with you my pick of the Best Celtic Bands FOR St Patrick’s Day 2021. As you probably know, I also host the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. It’s an hour-long show of Celtic music by the best independent Celtic bands online. Every year, I make MY PICK of the best Celtic bands based primarily on how much I played their music in the podcast. You can read my pick in a blog on my website of the Top 10 Celtic Bands of 2020. Let’s get started. #10 Runa RUNA continues to push the boundaries of Irish folk music into the Americana and roots music formats. Interweaving the haunting melodies and exuberant tunes of Ireland and Scotland with the lush harmonies and intoxicating rhythms of jazz, bluegrass, flamenco and blues, they offer a thrilling and redefining take on traditional music. They've been a favorite of mine for many years now. And I highly recommend their album TEN: The Errant Night. What a great album! #9 Skeleton McKee Skeleton McKee brings the best of rock and rollicking Celtic roots/folk/rock, pub songs, and a wee bit of trad, blues and Americana. This band keeps your toes tapping and your hands clapping with a dose of humor on the side. Skeleton McKee has made a big impact on the DFW Celtic music scene, with Celtic infused entertainment featuring great vocal harmonies, precision instrumentation and intricate rhythms. Skeleton McKee comprises jovial, experienced musicians who combine impressively diverse backgrounds to deliver the cream of the Celtic tradition. Once you experience a live show, you’ll know why their slogan is: “All For Fun and Fun For All!” #8 An Lar An Lár (the center in Irish Gaelic) is one of the most vibrant Celtic Folk bands in Switzerland. They play original songs and tunes inspired by folk music from Ireland and Scotland and one can also note influences from places like Asturias and Brittany. Exciting arrangements, strong lead vocals and considerable skill on a wide range of instruments are typical features of the band. #7. Lissa Schneckenburger The down beat slams your body as the song grabs you and surges forward. You lean in to hear every word, as Schneckenburger’s voice sweetly sets the scene and then brings it to a boil, careening around each detail. The song ends before you’re ready, leaving you breathless with your heart thumping in your ears. You reach forward and hit repeat. Raised in a small town in Maine and now living in Vermont, Schneckenburger grew up with music. She began playing fiddle at the age of six, inspired by her parent’s interest in folk music. In 2001 she graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music with a degree in Contemporary Improvisation. She has been performing and teaching music around the world ever since. One of the things that I love so much about Celtic music is the diversity of people. In case you didn’t know, Schneckenburger is not an Irish or Scottish name. But who cares. Because every time I start looking for great Celtic music, I end up picking her. 14:57 - Lissa Schneckenburger “Lamplighter's Hornpipe / Suffer the Child” from Dance 17:41 - TOP TEN (cont.) #6 Barleyjuice With six studio albums and a double CD collection in their sporrans to date, Barleyjuice have made themselves one of the most beloved celtic rock bands in the US. Frontman Kyf Brewer pens the majority of the group’s originals and lithely covers lead vocals, guitar, accordion, harmonica, mandolin, bouzouki, piano and bagpipes. He originally piped in the Loch Rannoch Pipe Band, and performed in Edinburgh’s Millennium March for Prince Charles. Backing Brewer is a mad quartet of characters: guitar virtuoso Chris “Shep” Shepherd handles mandolin & conventional electric & acoustic guitars with his trademark flair and panache; captivating fiddler Kyle Blessing’s classical roots stray to bluegrass and country in the middle of the most authentic jigs & hornpipes; drummer Bogi Trifunovich is a powerhouse of driving decadence, while hopping bassist Eric Worthington is the musical snake-charmer of the deep and dulcet. The ayes have it – Barleyjuice is a grand group of talented tunesmiths and prodigious performers, and the absolute best time you can have at a concert without removing your kilt. #5 Ockham's Razor Ockham's Razor creates a musical experience, not just a gig. They are a young, energetic band with Celtic roots that blends rock, bluegrass, gypsy, classical, pop and punk influences throughout their music. They include the audience in the show by getting off stage, into the audience and getting them dancing, singing along to the songs and breaking down that 4th wall that many bands put up between themselves and the audience. This creates a memorable experience for the audience instead of a forgettable evening of “Who was that band?” The Yakima Folklife Festival described their sound as “Turbo-Celtic” and “Ethno-Punk”. Interview with Kris of Ockham’s Razor on Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. #4 Screaming Orphans Screaming Orphans are four sisters with the good fortune to have been raised in the magic of Bundoran in County Donegal, Ireland.  There is a great tradition of music to be found in Irish homes especially in the Gaeltacht or Irish-speaking areas which have produced the likes of Clannad, Enya and Mairead, Micheal and Triona Ni Dhomhnaill. Their home was no exception. Since they were young, they’ve been singing and playing traditional Irish music but when they hit their teenage years they knew it was time to start their own pop rock band. 21:25 - Screaming Orphans “Every Woman Gardens” from Sunshine & Moss 24:28 - TOP TEN (cont.) #3 The Selkie Girls Originally formed in 2013, The Selkie Girls have firmly established themselves as a mainstay in the North Texas folk music scene. With dozens of music and art festivals under their belt, as well as numerous television appearances, the band has toured throughout the States, never failing to captivate audiences with their unique instrumentation, lush harmonies, and dynamic arrangements. The band (Alli Johnson: vocals/guitar, Jaycie Skidmore: vocals/flutes/penny whistles, Dave Ervin: vocals/guitar/mandolin, Joel Black: upright and fretless acoustic bass, Martin McCall: percussion, and Linda Mudd: harp) draws upon a vast repertoire of ancient and contemporary ballads, traditional Irish and Scottish songs (often sung in the native tongue), and foot-stomping jigs and reels, creating a truly eclectic and affecting musical experience. #2 Jiggy Jiggy continue the tradition of their musical ancestors while bringing a whole new exotic flavor to the table, more of a collective than an orthodox band, Jiggy’s mercurial line up mixes and melds Irish traditional music, world rhythms and cutting-edge dance grooves. Jiggy took the internet by storm with their video ‘Silent Place’ celebrating the global togetherness of dance and to date it has clocked up more than 35 million views. This has introduced the band to a brand new audience worldwide and their debut album TRANSLATE went to number 1 in the world music charts in Ireland, United States, Canada, France, Australia, Poland & UK and they are now a big hit with festival audiences across the globe. #1 We Banjo 3 Debuting in the U.S. in 2012, We Banjo 3 has since emerged as fast-rising touring darlings in the country that two of the members now call home. The Galway, Ireland, and Nashville-based quartet––comprised of two sets of brothers, Enda & Fergal Scahill and Martin & David Howley––continually push musical boundaries while maintaining an unwavering devotion to the essential audience experience. WB3 seamlessly converge the shared and varied traditions of Americana, Bluegrass, and Celtic music with pop-sensible songcraft to create a truly unique and gratifying signature sound. Brilliantly commanded instruments––banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and percussion––effortlessly elevate lead singer David Howley’s propulsive voice. Live on stage, their songs carry the listener along until, at the perfect moment, the band crescendos into catchy choruses with pitch perfect harmonies. We Banjo 3 deliver their music with such palpable rapport, stunning precision, and infectious energy, it’s impossible to pigeonhole what kind of listener might suddenly consider themselves a WB3 fan. 28:45 - We Banjo 3 “Happiness” from String Theory -- New Irish & Celtic Song Lyrics. It began with a cassette I found at Half-Priced Books. It was a live album of this gritty Irish-sounding band singing song after song. I loved it. Those were in fact the first songs I learned for the Brobdingnagian Bards. Some stuck. Others not so much. But that album was super important to my future music career. It led me on the path of playing Irish drinking songs. It taught me how to write fun drinking songs. And of course, it established my musical style of Sci F’Irish music. Today, we’re gonna do a countdown of the Top 5 Irish drinking songs. These songs were picked and voted on by members of my Irish & Celtic Music Club and the Celtic Geeks group on Facebook. PUB CHAT Janine Rinker emailed: “Hi Marc, I started looking for celtic music online because my philosophy professor claimed that Irish music is mainly drinking and fighting songs (it isn't all...).  Anyway, after listening to the same songs by the same groups several times I got the idea of just skipping several pages of search and found your music. I generally listen to your pubsongs podcast when I'm typing homework of some sort (I'm an adjunct professor at a community college, and something of a chronic student), although sometimes I'm playing games on Facebook instead.  You've gotten my family watching Firefly, and I gave some of your CD's as a Christmas gift to a friend who likes cats, but doesn't have any of her own anymore. Thanks for the bonus Christmas CD's you sent. If you're not familiar with them, let me suggest Woods Tea Company and Cahill Dunne as other groups whose music you might want to play.  Both have some songs where the audience is encouraged to sing the chorus. Woods Tea Company has a variety of songs, but "This Side of the Sea" is an album specifically of Irish music.  Cahill Dunne is an Irishman who married an American. He plays piano, and sings a variety of styles of music, including traditional Irish, comedy and Western songs. I really enjoy the variety of music on your podcast and listening to your adventures.” James H. emailed: "Hi Marc –Thanks for sending me the freebies!  I’m listening to Star of County Down, but not sure how to download the songs.  I can usually right click and “Save Target As”, however, that’s only saving the HTM (file location).  Is it only intended to listen on my computer? We live in Modesto California.  We’re Christian Baptists and our church is in Stockton. I found you through my android podcast player, although most of my regular podcasts are on my iPhone.  I like to bring my tablet (android) on long trips to visit my daughters in college in Southern California. My wife and daughters all play violin and my daughters played (still one daughter in it) the Modesto Youth Symphony Orchestra; they have played concerts in Canada, Austria and Czech Republic.  My oldest LOVES anything Celtic and would probably want to live in Ireland. My dad’s side of the family is from County Cork and Clare County.  My mom’s side came over on the Mayflower. Thanks again I’m enjoying your podcast!" Albert D emailed: "Hello Marc, I love your shows, I love your music. Keep up the great work. That’s awesome that the next few months are looking busier than you’ve been in years. LONG overdue. Congratulations and good luck. Could you please tell me what “coffee with the Celtfather” is all about? Thank you for your time. Peace be with you, God bless you, go in peace." Allan Marcotte emailed: “Marc,I heard you singing Kilty Pleasure about taking pride in your Scottish heritage and wearing of the kilt. I am not of Scot or Irish descent but the song spoke to me.  My Dad was an American of French Canadian extraction but my Mom was German from the old country, she came to this country about 4 years before I was born. Growing up I was aware of my French Canadian heritage but I was very aware my German heritage.  I listened to traditional German music and still do though I don't speak the lingo and understand all the songs. My diet is heavily influenced by German cooking, I even make my own sauerkraut from scratch. It becomes very prominent at Christmas, the tradition of celebrating Advent, the visit from St Niklaus on 6 December and to me there is nothing prettier than Silent Night sung in German.  Looking forward to the new album.” #pubsongs #shamrock #irishsongs

Greetings Gunn Runner And farewell February. Things might've run a little behind. But I made big progress this month. Especially with the release of my Kickstarter for Selcouth. I conquered my $5000 goal just a few days after it launched. It still has two weeks to go. So I'm feeling pretty good about it so far. But before we talk more about that, let's talk about... Show #259 0:40 - PODCASTS The Pub Songs Podcast is back with a vengeance. I am a podcaster at heart. I figured it'd be fairly easy to knock out completely live episodes of the Pub Songs Podcast to my Kickstarter every week. And I was correct. I recorded four new episodes so far. Which is good because in addition to promoting the podcast, it also allows me to keep to my initial schedule of how many episodes I want to release this year. Plus, I love the format. I'm fine tuning it still. But it starts with a song. I go into some news, add a stories from the road, and a couple more songs. It feels good. Like something I COULD keep up every week. Though I don't plan to at present. Stories from the Road is not getting ahead. But I have a lot of new content. So I'm staying on top of it. That's good because this is my Patron-only podcast. I got ahead for the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. But I already feel like I'm losing that lead I got. I want to try and knock out a bunch of summer episodes. But I'm stalling for St Patrick's Day. Sooooo we shall see.   The In the ‘Verse podcast is coming. I apologize for the delay. But it's been crazy. Course, that doesn't mean I didn't go ahead and setup the Cat Music Lovers podcast. The first podcast I ever published was the Cat Lovers Podcast. I created it to promote my Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers. But I ran out of time and had less interest in keeping it going. But I was still proud of that show. I was happy it was still available. Until I realized it was No Longer available. So I did a bunch of maintenance on the show. It should be back up on Apple Podcasts soon. 2:54 - VIDEOS My voice is back. Which means Coffee with the Celtfather is back as well.  I feel like I've had some good shows. Though the attendance still seems a little lower than I'd like. Maybe I need to promote the show more. That said, I am posting new videos on YouTube. And I'm working on a new strategy for the site. My views have dropped dramatically since I deleted all of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast videos. Now each video I post gets about 50 views. That's not too good. But it allows me to start over and decide what this channel will be. So what will it be? Family videos set to my music. I like doing videos of my family. It's extra cool when I can add in my own music to spice up the video. I haven't figured out how to name the videos yet. But these videos help me learn a lot about shooting and editing videos. I have a new one featuring Inara. We went for a hike the other day. It was't too bad a video. My editing still needs work though Travel videos. I recorded a lot of video these past couple o'years going on my Celtic Invasion Vacations. These are a great way to promote my trips. So I'm gonna keep editing these videos. The sucky thing is that as I edit them, I realize I should've done this or that... Like in the latest video from The Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye. I did a poor job filming. But there was enough footage that it's not too bad. Song Performance videos. I thought I had recorded a lot of these videos. After reviewing my site, I realize I haven't. So I'm gonna keep recording me singing individual songs. This is a great way to attract new followers of my site. So hopefully, you'll see more. Celtic Geek Thoughts. I'm not yet sure how to do these videos or what content to put on them, aside from the Celtic Top 40 videos I wanna do. But I'll have to tell you when I figure that out. 10:26 - MERCH My free CD offer went over GREAT last month. If you ever want to find out how many of your fans listen to physical CDs. Give one away. LOL. I had over a hundred that went out into the world. And of course, all you have to do is pay the shipping cost. You'll find a link in the shownotes if you want one. Again the Kickstarter for Selcouth is going great. I'm $700 over my initial goal. Yes. My actual goal is to earn $7500. But at least my base expenses are covered. I CAN create a new CD. And I still have two weeks to go to hit my first stretch goal. I ran into one interesting problem as the goal has started to stall out. That is, how do I keep up momentum. Seems like every time I post something fun or interesting, I get a spike. But I'm not the best storyteller I think. So that's making it tough. I discussed this challenge with Andrew. He suggested that I bring people in on video to chat about it. I'm gonna try and do that the next couple o'weeks. Stay tuned... 12:06 - TRAVEL The Celtic Invasion of Venice closed up. We have a very small group this year. And I can start planning for Scotland in 2021. But I'm excited to see what happens next... 12:56 - WEBSITES With St Patrick's Day just around the corner, I started updating my Irish Song Lyrics website. I started this site years ago to promote my Celtic songs. Admittedly, I've done little with it the past few years, Except around St Patrick's Day. But I decided to update it for two reasons. One, it's that time of year. And two because I want to get back to helping people learn these songs. You see, the reason I started the site was to offer an incredible resource. How to play songs the way I learn them, by ear. There are just lyrics, chords, and music to listen to on the site. You can play along with me over and over again if you so desire. This makes it a lot easier. I'm also trying to make it entirely about the user. I removed much of the advertising that was on the website. Now it's just the stuff you really want. It's an amazing, free resource. So go along with me. 14:15 - PROMOTION I also had a new promotion idea I thought up recently using Facebook groups... Well, actually any online community. I have two groups that I actively share to on Facebook: Celtic Geeks and Irish & Celtic Music Club. Most everything really goes to the Celtic Geeks group. If I find something I love, unless it's hardcore Celtic, I share it to the Celtic Geeks group. That makes it easy. I don't use my personal profile. I share to an interactive community. It's awesome. And that's the tip I came up with. Instead of trying to share my music to your friends who may or may not share you interests, share to a group, where your interests definitely align. I haven't seen many Gunn Runners doing that yet, well aside from Sarah, who sort of inspired this idea when she shared Selcouth to a Firefly fan group. 16:04 - SHOWS PLANNED FOR MARCH I updated the gig calendar on my website. I'm using Google Calendars again. This is going GREAT for listing shows. You can see everywhere I'll be this year. And yes, it is fully up-to-date. REVIEW SONGS FROM THE LAST EPISODE Marc: My Man Mikey: Stories of War   FIVE MINUTE SHOW SUMMARY Episode 11: Trash - Written by Ben Edlund and Jose Molina PLOT SYNOPSIS MIKEY: The episode opens in a desert, where a naked Mal sits on a rock, staring into the distance and saying to himself: "Yeah… that went well." MARC: During a cargo transfer 72 hours earlier, Mal meets up with Monty, a war buddy and fellow Browncoat turned smuggler. As Monty's crew unloads cargo, he tells Mal that he's gotten married, introducing his wife Bridget. "Bridget" turns out to be Mal's nemesis Saffron, and a fight breaks out between them. Enraged to learn of Saffron's double-dealing, Monty leaves without her, stranding her on the deserted moon where Mal is waiting for a pickup. Mal orders Saffron to walk away and be left behind, but reconsiders when she tempts him with the prospect of a lucrative heist. Later, Serenity arrives to pick up Mal and the unloaded cargo. Later Mal lets Saffron out of one of the loaded crates in the cargo bay. MIKEY: In the common room, Saffron describes to the crew her plan to steal a priceless antique laser pistol, the Lassiter, from Durran Haymer, a wealthy collector of Earth-That-Was artifacts. She claims a detailed knowledge of Haymer's security arrangements, but explains that the difficulty lies in getting the weapon off the estate, something Serenity's crew could accomplish. The crew is outraged that Mal has brought Saffron on board, but they reluctantly agree to the plan. MARC: Jayne is assigned to watch over Simon and River and keep them out of Saffron's sight. River worries about the situation, telling Simon she doesn't trust Saffron and that she knows Jayne had tried to betray the Tams to the Alliance. Meanwhile, Wash and Kaylee instruct Mal and Saffron to dump the collectible pistol, once they procure it, into an automated trash disposal unit, which Kaylee can reprogram to have the trash taken to a remote location where they can pick it up. MIKEY: Mal and Saffron enter the estate without difficulty. They find the room that houses the well-protected collectible, but are met by Durran himself. Durran rushes to Saffron and embraces her, calling her "Yolanda" and thanking Mal for bringing back his wife, who had apparently disappeared six years ago. Saffron insists that Durran provide some compensation for Mal's "rescue". Durran steps out to get reward money for Mal, to allow them to finish retrieving the pistol. As Durran reenters, he attempts to remonstrate with her, but Saffron knocks him out with a kick and leaves with Mal, who has discarded the antique in the trash chute after which they escape. MARC: Meanwhile, Wash has been hovering Serenity directly under the trash unit of Haymer's estate while Jayne retrieves the control unit and Kaylee reprograms it, clinging to the ship's hull. A delay arises during the windy EVA when Jayne is incapacitated by an electric shock, but Zoe helps Kaylee replace the control board just in time for the automated pickup vehicle to collect the trash unit. Jayne is dragged back on board by Shepherd Book. MIKEY: As Mal and Saffron fly toward the rendezvous in Isis Canyon, Mal continues to explore his theory that Durran was Saffron's true love and original husband. Saffron seems to become emotional, but when Mal is off guard, she secures his gun and takes him prisoner. Saffron orders Mal to disrobe as revenge for him seeing her naked in the episode "Our Mrs. Reynolds", and strands him in the desert before proceeding to the drop location. MARC: As Saffron searches through the garbage for the antique laser pistol, Inara emerges above her to taunt her with the weapon. The Companion reveals that she has been part of the plan all along, knowing that Saffron would get the drop on them somehow and arranging to beat her at her own game of deception. Inara remotely closes the garbage container to trap Saffron for the authorities to pick up later. MIKEY: On Serenity, the crew discovers that Saffron has again sabotaged their ship, delaying their trip to the rendezvous so that Kaylee can make repairs. Jayne awakens in the infirmary to find that Simon has medically paralyzed him to rest a spinal injury. Simon reveals his knowledge of Jayne's plan to sell out the Tams, but reminds him that Serenity's crew are a team, and that as Jayne's doctor he will never harm him. River, however, warns Jayne that she can kill him with her brain. MARC: Once repaired, Serenity makes it to Mal's location. Mal and Inara, having reached an understanding, trade jokes about the heist. Mal casually boards Serenity in front of his crew, still unclothed. Wash and Zoe are shocked by the captain's brazenness, but Kaylee cheerfully congratulates Mal as the ship lifts off from the desert.   NEW SONGS Marc: I am ever so grateful for the kindness and generosity of Gunn Runners over on Patreon. I hope you come to Lincoln, Nebraska (or somewhere close) sometime." Allan Marcotte emailed: "Favorite Scottish song?  Either "Sound the Pibroch" or "Welcome Royal Charlie".  What can I say I am a hopeless romantic, there is nothing better than standing with and fighting for a lost cause against impossible odds." Buy CDs at MageRecords.com. -- Free CD Offer -- Kickstarter for Selcouth is launched. 7:48 - STORIES FROM THE ROAD: “Loch Lomond” Loch Lomond is a traditional Scottish song, Roud #9598. It was first published in 1841. The author is unknown, but the loch is the largest loch in Scotland. I’ve heard a few different stories about the origins. Wikipedia lists the most-popular one being that is Jacobite song. It says there are references to it with the date 1746 attached. That was the year the Bonnie Prince Charlie’s rebellion ended. They also have an additional verse that I’ve never seen used. O braw Charlie Stewart, dear true, true heart, Wha could refuse thee protection, Like the weeping birk on the wild hillside, How graceful he looked in dejection Nevertheless, the song is about a Scottish soldier far away in France who tells a friend to “take the high road” home. The “high road” is of course life, and a regular path to Scotland. The “low road” is about dying and having his spirit head home. Greetings Gunn Runner January was a rough month. I spent a lot of time with bronchitis. It was tough getting stuff done. I've even delayed my Kickstarter release because of this until February 10th. I'll tell you more about it below. But first... Show #257 0:33 - PODCASTS The Pub Songs Podcast will be back soon. I had big plans for it this month. I'm considering more live recordings in the show mixed with news... At least that's what I planned for the two episodes I thought I was gonna put out. Alas... it did not happen. My apologies In the meantime, I have new Stories from the Road episodes already lined up. I had some good brainstorm ideas on the topic. So hopefully, I won't miss any more of those. The Irish & Celtic Music Podcast is out. I was barely staying on top of it until this week. Now I have the whole month of February planned including a Celtic Women of St Patrick's Day episode at the end of the month. I also launched the Sainted Celts Collection to show off the podcast shirt design. There's a new episode of In the ‘Verse. And if all goes well Mikey and I will record the next episode this Thursday. Knock on wood. Hopefully, we can get another done in a couple weeks. 1:50 - VIDEOS Coffee with the Celtfather is back tomorrow. I might get a little hoarse. But I'm gonna try and pull through as usual at 10:30 AM Eastern on Facebook. I'm starting to think of new video ideas. But nothing lined up yet. So stay tuned. 2:20 - MERCH With any luck, you got an email from me this week about a Free CD offer. This is something I've tried to make happen for a while. I finally set it up on my Square store. Basically, I will send you a free copy of my CD Happy Songs of Death or Songs of Ireland from the Brobdingnagian Bards. All you have to do is pay for the shipping. Well, I sent out a couple emails to fans, and the offers were super well-received. This was my first step. Next, I have to see I can advertise with this offer. My hope is to make fans with these free CDs. But I thought I'd first see if I could convince fans to take advantage of the same offer. And it worked! The timeline for Selcouth has changed. The Kickstarter will launch on Monday, February 10th. It'll close on Friday, March 6, 2020. My apologies for the delay. But getting sick has really put a damper on my ability to talk and make a video, record podcasts, and even record songs for the album. It just sucks. So I have to try and catch up now... Sigh... Meanwhile the Brobdingnagian Bards album I Will Not Sing Along, is still planned February 2, 2020--GROUNDHOG DAY! In fact, we have some SUPER FUN VIDEOS planned for the release. Yes. Groundhog Day videos. You will want to follow the Brobdingnagian Bards on Facebook and maybe also on my YouTube channel so you don't miss 'em! 4:45 - TRAVEL I still have space for my Celtic Invasion of Venice. You can listen to the Celtic Invasion Vacations itinerary. To find out how amazing this trip will be. Email me if you have questions. It's a brand new year. Compiling stats to watch my growth each month is a little time consuming. But it is also pretty fantastic for plotting statistical growth. I know exactly where I was this time last year. I’m gonna start the show with the usual updates. Then I’ll go into stats and finish up with goals for 2020. 1:53 - PODCASTS I published a bonus episode of the Pub Songs Podcast to 2019. I shared my love of the new Frozen 2 movie. The next couple of episodes I’m gonna share thoughts about my next album, Selcouth, as well as talk about individual songs on the album. I think February will move towards promoting St Patrick's Day featuring some top 5 and 10s. I don’t have any specific Stories from the Road episodes planned. But I hope to get ahead when I get a full work day next week. The first episode of the 2020 season of the  Irish & Celtic Music Podcast kicks off next week. I took a much needed break. You can still expect more features of women in the upcoming year. I also want to draw attention to our environment, something close to the heart of the Celts. The Celtic Christmas Podcast released three episodes last year. I'm already planning to launch an early fundraiser for the show in 2020. Mikey Mason and I recorded an episode of In the ‘Verse back in December. We did not release it because with the holiday, I think we both had trouble making time to write a song. But I finally sat down with my song. The episode we wrote songs for was "War Stories". It's one of my favorites. I had trouble writing a song for the episode though. But right before we left for Christmas vacation, I wrote "My Man". It's from the perspective of Zoe, and wow, I love it. It kinda helped me understand Wash better than ever. Hopefully, we'll release it soon. I'll see Andrew McKee at Georgia Filk next weekend. I suspect we will record a Brobdingnagian Bards podcast while we're together. We also have some videos we need to record together to complete our Kickstarter rewards. 4:20 - VIDEOS Season 5 of Coffee with the Celtfather begins on January 8. The show will continue at 10:30 AM Eastern on Wednesday. However, It will be exclusively available on Facebook. I made quite a few updates to my YouTube channel. In particular, I deleted many of my most-successful videos. That's because they were episodes of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast... and they were blocked by Facebook. It seems Facebook will only keep podcasts up if it's not primarily a music show. I'm still debating whether I want to keep episodes of the Pub Songs Podcast up there. I talk in a lot of those so many of those aren't getting blocked. But I think I might just rework the entire channel into a Marc Gunn music channel. It's wild looking at the most-popular videos now that all the Celtic podcast videos are gone. Bizarre! My top video is a review of my portable amp. Then comes a "Whiskey in the Jar" video featuring the Bedlam Bards. "Danny Boy for Cat Lovers" is after that. Then just a recording of my version of "Whiskey in the Jar" with just the album cover. And #5 is Funny Irish Pub Songs, a live video I made. Wild! The channel will see a big change in the days to come. 7:07 - MERCH I posted a Gunn Runners Card on Patreon. This card gives Heroic Gunn Runners on Patreon a 25% discount on all merch in my store and at shows. Seems like a lot of Gunn Runners are happy to pay full price to support my music. I am very grateful to all of you. But if you need or want the discount. It's there for you. Selcouth is the name of my next album. The Kickstarter officially launches on January 27 and goes through February 14. I still have a TON of videos and text to write for this Kickstarter. Heck! I still don't have an album cover. So stay tuned. Oh! And make sure you subscribe to my mailing list if you're not already. I will let you know when it goes live. In the middle of that, the Brobdingnagian Bards officially release I Will Not Sing Along, our 10th studio album on February 2, 2020--GROUNDHOG DAY! 9:00 - TRAVEL I still have space for my Celtic Invasion of Venice. You can listen to the Celtic Invasion Vacations itinerary. To find out how amazing this trip will be. Email me if you have questions. So if you are sharing, enjoying, And creating, then I am successful.  And if all that happens, then I should see an increase in everything I do in online. So many people focus on metrics. But that distracts from the point of what we are trying to do. Hopefully, this will inspire you to create your own goals for 2020. I spent a lot of time in December trying to plan my next year. I haven't even thought about that five, ten or twenty year plan. I just needed to get in control of THIS YEAR'S plan. But I feel I did. Read More About Patreon here EVne.ws/patreon   Read today’s show notes on https://www.evnewsdaily.com   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 25th March 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today, and picked out the best ones to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.     TESLA UNLOCKS V2 SUPERCHARGER 145 KW RATE VIA NEW SOFTWARE UPDATE "Tesla is now applying its innovative over-the-air software update ability to enable 145 kW-charging for the Model 3. We’re looking at an increase in charging rate of upwards of some 20 percent. Keep in mind, this is prior to the mass implementation of Tesla’s sought-after V3 (250 kW) Superchargers coming online and expanding incrementally." Says Steven Loveday for InsideEVs today: According to Tesla, as reported by Teslarati, the V2 Supercharging software upgrade will push the company’s current Supercharger rate from 120 kW to 145 kW. Tesla is now working on a global level to push its current systems to accept this update.   Recent images shared on Reddit show that updated Model 3 vehicles see a 147 kW charge (some 600 miles per hour) on today’s technology. This means that the cars can charge at that rate prior to the implementation of V3 Superchargers."   https://insideevs.com/tesla-unlocks-v2-supercharger-145-kw-rate/   FORD F-150 EV SPIED TRYING TO HIDE IT'S ELECTRIC "New spy shots provide a fresh look at the development of the Ford F-150 EV. At first glance, you might suspect this is just a normal F-150, but these shots reveal some of the EV's special details." According to Chris Heck or Motor1.com: "At the back, the Blue Oval's engineers want to fool you by mounting an exhaust on the passenger side. However, these photos reveal it's actually just a pipe without a connection to anything, in addition to the picture catching the truck's independent rear suspension layout.   Our spies also note that the F-150 EV rides slightly higher than the standard model to fit the batteries underneath the cab. The extra height doesn't look too substantial over the existing pickup, though. Specs for the electric F-150 aren't yet available. However, the test mules in these spy photos are reportedly very early prototypes for developing the necessary technology and don't reflect what Ford intends to sell to consumers when this vehicle finally comes to market. "   https://www.motor1.com/news/315311/ford-f-150-ev-spy-shots/   TESLA MODEL 3 DRIVERS REACH OVER 1 BILLION ELECTRIC MILES IN RECORD TIME "After just over a year since starting deliveries, Tesla Model 3 drivers have already reached over 1 billion electric miles in record time." Writes Fred Lambert for Electrek today: "We were able to track the progress through the Tesla road trip page and Tesla confirmed that its global fleet reached over 5 billion electric miles driven in July 2017. Tesla removed the counter from the Tesla road trip page and we haven’t been able to track the fleet mileage since, but a source familiar with the data point confirmed to Electrek that the fleet surpassed 9 billion total miles at the end of last year."   @Tesla Over 1 billion miles have been driven with Model 3 – thank you to all the amazing Tesla owners who got us here! http://tesla.com/3 4:40 PM - Mar 23, 2019   https://electrek.co/2019/03/25/tesla-model-3-drivers-1-billion-miles/   TESLA INCREASES MODEL Y PRICES BY $1,000, PLUS 3% INCREASE ON INVENTORY CARS Tesla Model Y Design Studio lists three versions of the Model Y and prices all of them were increased by $1,000 (compared to initial pricing revealed at the unveiling) to stay in line with the rest of the lineup.   The new prices in the U.S. are:   Performance – $61,000 (Fall 2020) Long Range AWD – $52,000 (Fall 2020) Long Range RWD – $48,000 (Fall 2020) At the current stage, we don’t know yet whether the Standard battery version (not yet listed in the shop) will be increased by $1,000 from $39,000 to $40,000 too.   It’s expected that previously placed orders for the Model Y (before the price bump) will be honored. Anyways, with at least 1.5 years to first deliveries, prices will most likely change a few more times.   https://insideevs.com/tesla-increase-model-y-price/   FIRST UK ORDER FOR THE ELECTRIC PEUGEOT E-208 PLACED ON THE SAME DAY AS ITS PUBLIC DEBUT Car buyers usually wait until they can drive a new model before signing on the dotted line but one PEUGEOT customer couldn’t even wait to see the all-new e-208 before placing a deposit.   On the same day the all-new PEUGEOT e-208 made its public world debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Neal Street paid a deposit at Truscott’s PEUGEOT Barnstable to secure one of the very first vehicles to arrive in the UK. He wanted to be at the front of the queue and placed his order before official order books opened. Street, a self-confessed car enthusiast, wasn’t put off by the fact PEUGEOT is yet to confirm UK pricing. As part of PEUGEOT’s ambition to provide an electrified version of every model in its range by 2023, the 100% electric all-new e-208 is powered by a 100kW motor and features a 50kWh battery, delivering a zero-emission range of up to 211 miles (WLTP) from a full charge.   BMW X1 XDRIVE25LE DEBUTS IN CHINA WITH 68 MILES OF ELECTRIC RANGE "After launching a plug-in hybrid version of the X1 in China back in September 2016, BMW is now introducing a revised variant of the vehicle which carries the X1 xDrive25Le name. Oddly enough, the Bavarian company is not ready to release official images of the PHEV and says it will show the car at the upcoming Auto Shanghai 2019 next month." Reports Anthony Carr for Motor1.com US today: "The PHEV X1 hides a new package of lithium-ion high-voltage batteries with increased capacity and a nickel, cobalt, and manganese ratio of 8:1:1, which means the use of nickel is expanded seriously. This increases the density and also leads to smaller usage of rare earth material like the cobalt. It is based on the LWB model and features a smart battery technology which allows for a range of 68 miles (110 kilometers) on purely electric energy, but bear in mind this is measured by the overly optimistic NEDC cycle. "   https://www.motor1.com/news/315247/bmw-x1-xdrive25le-china-debut/   JAGUAR J-PACE TO ARRIVE IN 2021 AS FLAGSHIP SUV Hilton Holloway for Autocar today says: "Jaguar’s upcoming J-Pace flagship SUV will be one of the first electrified models built on an all-new Jaguar Land Rover platform – and a fully electric version is also likely to be made, according to sources. The J-Pace is thought to be just over two years from launch and will arrive at around the same time as the fifth-generation Range Rover."   https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/jaguar-j-pace-arrive-2021-flagship-suv   DACIA DUSTER EV MULE SPIED HINTING AT BRAND'S ELECTRIC FUTURE And finally something affordable spotted by Motor1.co. UK spy shots: This is an all-electric mule from Renault’s affordable brand, Dacia, and it is wearing the body of a first-gen Duster SUV. Renault is one of the most experienced mainstream manufacturers in the industry when it comes to electrification and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that its sister brand from Romania will benefit from the knowledge. Our spy photographers tell us these shots come from a frozen lake close to the Arctic Circle, where Renault Sport is actually working on a new contender for the Andros Trophy ice series. The competition is set to receive an all-electric class as a top tier in 2020 and, apparently, this car will soon morph into Dacia’s race car for the series."   https://www.motor1.com/news/315180/dacia-duster-ev-mule-spied/   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week.
