Unfortunately, these cherished characters from fiction are also infamous, and risk being chased out of any town they enter. So we need a system of notoriety for our games that still allow the PCs to walk through the world even after they've made some enemies. Ray and Ariel review two examples of Notoriety: the bounties from One Piece which create benchmarks for progress and comparison with other pirates, vs Reputation from Gloomhaven which is multidirectional but can actively erase progress. Through these examples, Ray and Ariel devise a framework that is both multidirectional and tracks consistent forward progress. We managed to find a copy of 28 Days Later (which isn't streaming anywhere, even Amazon) and were treated to the re-awakening of the zombie movie @dgoebel00 on Instagram provided this amazing artwork. Follow him and check out his website https://youtu.be/7suz9ndPBHg Synopsis Some evil scientists were playing with fire and testing the effects of rage on Chimpanzees, when a group of radical extremists with Green Peace set the Apes free. One Ape attacked another and then everyone got angry, but not just angry, rageful. 28 days later and our protagonist, Jim (Cillian Murphy) awakes from his medically induced coma to a deserted and dilapidated London. He wanders the streets before finding some angry higher apes and quickly learns not to tango with this “rage” stuff. After Jim meets up with Selena (Naomie Harris), Frank (Brendan Gleeson), and Franks daughter they decide to brave the wilds of Great Britain to find a military outpost that's sending a hopeful message over the airwaves. Everyone get's more apes than they bargained for. Review 28 Days Later is an important movie in the zombie genre. It's not strictly a zombie movie, rather a re-imagining of a somewhat more likely scenario that could lead to something approximating a zombie movie outcome. If rabies was weaponized, the outcome might look something like 28 Days Later. There was never a shortage of B zombie movies since their inception, and there never will be. But there have been lulls in the popularity of the zombies in general, and moments of revival - 28 Days Later is largely responsible for one of the biggest revivals of zombies in the zeitgeist. Arguably, this movie helped kick off some of the biggest zombie movies and games in the last 20 years. There is no doubt that 28 Days Later is effective. The movie is dark, depraved, and hopeless, but manages to throw a little bit of family feeling in the somewhat slow second act that helps to redeem the pacing. It's a brand new year. Compiling stats to watch my growth each month is a little time consuming. But it is also pretty fantastic for plotting statistical growth. I know exactly where I was this time last year. I’m gonna start the show with the usual updates. Then I’ll go into stats and finish up with goals for 2020. 1:53 - PODCASTS I published a bonus episode of the Pub Songs Podcast to 2019. I shared my love of the new Frozen 2 movie. The next couple of episodes I’m gonna share thoughts about my next album, Selcouth, as well as talk about individual songs on the album. I think February will move towards promoting St Patrick's Day featuring some top 5 and 10s. I don’t have any specific Stories from the Road episodes planned. But I hope to get ahead when I get a full work day next week. The first episode of the 2020 season of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast kicks off next week. I took a much needed break. You can still expect more features of women in the upcoming year. I also want to draw attention to our environment, something close to the heart of the Celts. The Celtic Christmas Podcast released three episodes last year. I'm already planning to launch an early fundraiser for the show in 2020. Mikey Mason and I recorded an episode of In the ‘Verse back in December. We did not release it because with the holiday, I think we both had trouble making time to write a song. But I finally sat down with my song. The episode we wrote songs for was "War Stories". It's one of my favorites. I had trouble writing a song for the episode though. But right before we left for Christmas vacation, I wrote "My Man". It's from the perspective of Zoe, and wow, I love it. It kinda helped me understand Wash better than ever. Hopefully, we'll release it soon. I'll see Andrew McKee at Georgia Filk next weekend. I suspect we will record a Brobdingnagian Bards podcast while we're together. We also have some videos we need to record together to complete our Kickstarter rewards. 4:20 - VIDEOS Season 5 of Coffee with the Celtfather begins on January 8. The show will continue at 10:30 AM Eastern on Wednesday. However, It will be exclusively available on Facebook. I made quite a few updates to my YouTube channel. In particular, I deleted many of my most-successful videos. That's because they were episodes of the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast... and they were blocked by Facebook. It seems Facebook will only keep podcasts up if it's not primarily a music show. I'm still debating whether I want to keep episodes of the Pub Songs Podcast up there. I talk in a lot of those so many of those aren't getting blocked. But I think I might just rework the entire channel into a Marc Gunn music channel. It's wild looking at the most-popular videos now that all the Celtic podcast videos are gone. Bizarre! My top video is a review of my portable amp. Then comes a "Whiskey in the Jar" video featuring the Bedlam Bards. "Danny Boy for Cat Lovers" is after that. Then just a recording of my version of "Whiskey in the Jar" with just the album cover. This collection of documents on the American Founding inaugurates a new series of document collections from TeachingAmericanHistory.org. Each Core American Document volume will contain the following: Key documents on the period, theme, or institution, selected by an expert and reviewed by an editorial board An introduction highlighting key documents and themes A thematic table of contents, showing the connections between various documents Study questions for each document, as well as questions that refer to other documents in the collection Notes on each document to identify people, events, movements, or ideas to improve understanding of the document’s historical context. When complete, the series will be comprehensive and authoritative, and will present America’s story in the words of those who wrote it – America’s presidents, labor leaders, farmers, philosophers, industrialists, politicians, workers, explorers, religious leaders, judges, soldiers; its slaveholders and abolitionists; its expansionists and isolationists; its reformers and stand-patters; its strict and broad constructionists; its hard-eyed realists and visionary utopians – all united in their commitment to equality and liberty, yet so often divided by their different understandings of these most fundamental American ideas. The latest volume in Teaching American History's Core American Documents Collections is out - the Bill of Rights. Edited by Professor Gordon Lloyd, this 26-document volume include all the same components of our other Core Documents volumes, with the goal in mind of establishing the context around the creation of the Bill of Rights, and the many sources of the right codified in those first ten amendments to the Constitution. Talking the lost original version of what Resident Evil 2 may have been in what is now called Resident Evil 1.5. We go through the game which is beyond just a demo, with it's different characters, new police station, extra monsters, varied story line and all the coolness that any hardcore Resident Evil fan should experience. It's amazing how far along this game is. There's glitches and rough parts but all and all it's still a playable experience. Hopefully as time goes on we can experience even more of the archeological find of Capcom's missing events. Till then, survival horror good times to be had.
