Aber was steckt wirklich dahinter? Was waren die Trends? Gast: Florian-Frederik DeutgenModeratoren & Hosts: Damian Maib & Thomas DerksenSchnitt & Produktion: Eva TrotnoSend us a text

A čo priniesú výzvy z Plánu obnovy?

It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.    HOW LONG DOES THE VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 TAKE TO CHARGE FROM 0% TO 100%? - Although we've already done some DC fast charging tests, we had the opportunity to repeat the test on an ID.4 First Edition, so we drained the battery down to zero and charged it up to 100% on an Electrify America 150 kW DC fast charger. - The ID.4 has an 82 kWh battery, of which 77 kWh is usable. Its peak charging rate is supposed to be 125 kW, but we were able to touch 131 kW. In fact, the ID.4 charged at 123 kW or more all the way up to the 30% state of charge point, and it took only 12 minutes to do so. - 50% state of charge in 20 minutes, and after 40 minutes, the vehicle is at 80% state of charge and has taken in 67 kWh. - While the vehicle was charging from 0% to 80%, the average power it took in was 110 kW, which is nearly 90% (88%, actually) of its stated peak charging rate. - As good a charging EV as the ID.4 is, it may get even better very soon. That's because we have heard that Volkswagen may soon increase the ID.4's maximum charge rate from 125 kW to 175 kW through an OTA software update. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/531867/volkswagen-id4-fast-charging-test TESLA MODEL S PLAID SETS NÜRBURGRING "RECORD"  - The Tesla Model S Plaid, yoke and all, appears to have set a new electric production lap record of the Nürburgring with a 7 minute 30.9 seconds tour. The lap, the onboard of which was rather abruptly uploaded to the company's YouTube channel today (10th September) has not been verified by Nürburgring officials would be over 11 seconds faster than the Porsche Taycan Turbo S's previous benchmark. - Telsa appearing to max out at 286km/h (177mph) down the legendary Döttinger Höhe straight. The car appears to be virtually standard, at least to the naked eye, with the only obvious changes being a visible rollcage, accurate racing speedo and small red killswitch on the centre console. Besides looking quite different from any pickup truck on the market today, the Rivian R1T has a ton of storage space provided by its 4.5-foot bed, its frunk, its in-bed trunk, and its gear tunnel. - The answer as to what fits in the tunnel is: a bunch of whatever you like. The Rivian R1T's gear-tunnel volume is 11.6 cubic feet, or 0.6 cubic foot more than the R1T's frunk. On our (TAT) adventure, we fit a couple of carry-on sized suitcases, a couple of duffle bags, a backpack, and a briefcase in the tunnel all at the same time. The gear tunnel is deep, and if you're good with Tetris you can fit even more stuff than you think, especially if you have items you can fold, bend, or squeeze. The storage space was designed to fit golf bags, skis, snowboards, or collapsed strollers, but feel free to stash your umbrellas, fishing poles, or other similarly sized and shaped items. It also has a 12-volt outlet and a 110-volt outlet, one at each end, for powering various accessories. It should be slightly lower on the highway, which we will probably test at some point in the future. Specifically, Volvo says its EPA Combined driving range for the 2022 model is 7.2 percent better than before. - While that might not sound like much, that's an additional 15 miles of driving per charge bringing the range to 223 miles. - For 2021, the XC40 Recharge started at a base price of $53,990. For 2022, the XC40 Recharge base price is $55,300. Nio also confirms that the ET7 will be the first model to be launched in Germany in 2022. - Nio had announced the market entry in Norway as the first European country. Starting this month, the first examples of the ES8 E-SUV will be delivered there. - Nio now confirmed that the first vehicles in Germany will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2022 – but unlike in Norway, it will not be the ES8, but the ET7 electric sedan. - The ET7 is a 5.10-metre-long premium sedan with up to 480 kW of power and – measured in the outdated NEDC – up to 1,000 kilometres of range when the largest battery with 150 kWh is installed. Original Source : https://www.electrive.com/2021/09/10/nio-launches-european-debut-of-the-et7/ NIO'S NEW ET7 SEDAN COULD INCLUDE LOW-COST LITHIUM IRON PHOSPHATE BATTERY - Nio, Inc. (NYSE: NIO)  unveiled  its all-new ET7 sedan at its Nio Day event in early January, and deliveries of the EV maker's first-ever sedan will likely begin in the first quarter of 2022. - Nio could release a version of the ET7 with low-cost lithium iron phosphate, or LFP, batteries, as opposed to the ternary lithium-ion batteries it now uses, the CnEVPost reported, citing information released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The ET7 was included in MIIT's list of the latest models that will be part of its product announcement, the report said. This suggests the sedan will likely hew to Nio's scheduled delivery timeframe. The ET7's description in the list reportedly suggests batteries for the model will be supplied by Nio's longtime supplier CATL. - LFP batteries are relatively cheaper than ternary lithium-ion batteries. The adoption of LFP batteries could make the ET7 affordable to potential customers. The P5 is the world's first production vehicle equipped with lidar technology from the factory to support autonomous driving. - The new P5 is being marketed as a more "family friendly" sedan under its more expensive P7. Pre-sales of P5 began mid-July. Xpeng said the pre-sale this summer has already received enthusiastic responses from customers in China. - The company first unveiled the P5 in April at the annual Auto Shanghai car show. Deliveries to customers will start in October. - The P5's double-prism lidar sensors are capable of identifying pedestrians, cyclists or scooters, static obstacles, and construction zones, even at night or in low-light conditions, such as when traveling in a tunnel. Child occupant protection and safety assist systems are good as well, scoring 89% and 85% respectively. Speaking of which, the ID.4 range is offered with several advanced driver assist systems as standard. Among those include forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and vehicle turning detection, lane keeping assist system, adaptive cruise control, and driver alert system."   https://paultan.org/2021/04/20/volkswagen-id-4-gets-full-five-stars-in-euro-ncap-test/   CHINA DOMINATES ROLLOUT OF EV CHARGING STATIONS "China installed 284,000 public EV charging outlets in 2020, including 112,000 in December alone – more than the entire US public charging network – according to data published by BloombergNEF. BNEF’s Head of Advanced Transport, Colin McKerracher, quoted numbers which showed that China had over 800,000 publicly available EV charging outlets installed at the end of 2020 – up from 516,000 in 2019 and 300,000 in 2018." report The Driven: " China finished 2020 representing almost two-thirds of all public EV charging points installed globally. McKerracher noted that the US electric vehicle transition benefits from the extensive urban sprawl and the resulting detached homes with driveways or garages that, in turn, provide much easier private charging options and thus reducing the need for public chargers. Volkswagen’s director of technology strategy in China, Xu Peng, revealed during the company’s Power Day in March that only 30% of public chargers in some parts of China are actually functional – suffering from either defective chargers, or the globally common problem of being blocked by internal combustion engine vehicles"   https://thedriven.io/2021/04/20/china-dominates-rollout-of-ev-charging-stations-4000-a-day-in-december/   BYD EVS WILL NOW COME WITH BLADE BATTERIES Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD recently announced that all of its pure electric vehicles will now come with the brand’s ‘ultra-safe’ Blade Batteries, with nail penetration testing fully adopted as a brand standard. At the same time, the Blade Battery completed an extreme strength test that saw it being rolled over by a 46-ton heavy truck, once again resetting the bar for power battery safety. The test itself saw a 46-ton fully loaded heavy-duty truck drive over the Blade Battery pack, which the battery successfully passed without leakage, deformation or smoke, coming out perfectly intact and ready to be used in an EV.  In addition, four new pure electric models were also launched on the Chinese market at the same time, namely the 2021 Tang EV, Qin PLUS EV, Song PLUS EV, and 2021 e2, all equipped with Blade Batteries.   MERCEDES-BENZ TEASES NEW EQT "Mercedes-Benz is teasing the EQT, an electric minivan to be unveiled by American pro skateboarder Tony Hawk next month. The van passenger van segment is not on the top of the list of markets to electrify. Daimler is actually one of the early movers in the space with the EQV electric van, but that’s quite expensive. Now they are announcing a new entry, the Mercedes-Benz EQT, that should be an “entry-level” electric van." says electrek: "The Mercedes-Benz EQT is going to be unveiled on Monday, May 10,"   https://electrek.co/2021/04/20/mercedes-benz-eqt-electric-minivan/   SKODA ENYAQ IN DEMAND  Skoda boss Thomas Schäfer speaks in an interview with AUTO BILD: "Skoda needs at least four electric vehicles by the end of the decade . At least one below the Enyaq iV, another possibly the size of the Octavia . But only in the second half of the decade. At the same time, we are ideally positioned with our portfolio. The Octavia is just new - with all drive variants from gasoline to plug-in hybrids. The new Fabia will celebrate its world premiere in May and will go on sale a few months later. We are also planning a product upgrade for the Kodiaq . Incoming orders are much higher than we expected. We currently have well over 20,000 pre-orders. We mustn't forget here that these are customers who have ordered the car blindly, i.e. without having seen or driven it live. We had planned to be able to build 350 vehicles per day in Mladá Boleslav. And now increase to 500 units per day as quickly as possible. Yes, we can deliver. But it depends on individual options and the size of the battery . There are currently minor restrictions here. Our German sales colleagues and our dealers are doing a great job here."   https://www.autobild.de/artikel/skoda-chef-thomas-schaefer-interview-19464431.html   ELECTRIC AUDI A6 E-TRON CONCEPT "Audi is pushing forward with its electric design, adding e-tron power to the A6 lineage. Debuted at Auto Shanghai 2021, the all-new A6 e-tron concept previews a sporty fastback sedan planned for future launch. The new concept uses a combination of LEDs and OLEDs to light up the road ahead, send out warnings and messages to other road users, and even host a little outdoor gaming." says New Atlas: "Matrix LED technology blasts bright light from the minimal surface area. More than mere lamps, the headlights are also projectors, capable of casting an image several meters wide onto a surface ahead. The A6 e-tron concept previews the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) that Audi is working on jointly with Porsche. The platform carries a flat-mounted battery pack between the axles and can be scaled in battery size and wheelbase to serve as the basis for many vehicles. For the A6 e-tron concept, Audi wired up a 100-kWh battery to a dual-motor quattro all-wheel electric drive that puts out up to 469 hp (350 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. It estimates that the A6 e-tron can travel up to 435 miles (700 km, WLTP) per charge and sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in under four seconds. Thanks to the PPE's 800-V electricals, the A6 e-tron can DC fast-charge with up to 270 kW, adding 186 miles (300 km) in as little as 10 minutes "   So your own drive in movie?   https://newatlas.com/automotive/electric-audi-a6-e-tron-concept/   CONFIRMATION OF ID.4 GTX "VW says its sportier, faster versions of its upcoming EVs will be badged “GTX,” starting with the all-wheel-drive ID.4 GTX, with a second motor on the front axle. confirmed Autoweek.  Autocar understands that the ID 4 GTX will feature a lower ride height than the regular ID 4, with various other chassis changes made in order to boost the handling and performance. Show #450   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 21st April 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Welcome to a new Patreon EXECUTIVE PRODUCER SARI KANGASOJA. Hi Sari!!   TESLA TAKES SHORT SELLER TO COURT, SAYING HE MENACED ITS WORKERS "Elon Musk’s war with Tesla Inc. short sellers just got weirder. The electric carmaker claims a California man who it says is part of an online group of short sellers has been stalking its Fremont factory and harassing its employees -- including dangerously swerving his car toward a Tesla Model 3 that was on a freeway test drive and injuring a Tesla security guard in a hit-and-run on company property." reports Bloomberg: "Tesla persuaded a state court judge on Friday to issue a temporary restraining order requiring the man to stay at least 100 yards away from its factory and employees."   https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-04-21/tesla-takes-short-seller-to-court-saying-he-menaced-its-workers   TESLA PUTS NEW MODEL 3 INVENTORY ONLINE FOR BROWSING AND ‘IMMEDIATE’ DELIVERY "Instead of picking options and waiting a few weeks for delivery of a custom-configured Tesla, buyers can now browse Tesla’s inventory of new Model 3s online and find cars available for immediate delivery (within a few days)." says Electrek today: "Until today, this was only available for Model S and X. There still aren’t any used cars listed for Model 3, but Tesla’s new inventory is accessible for anyone to browse online. Also cars are only appearing in some geos like California."   https://electrek.co/2019/04/20/tesla-model-3-new-inventory-immediate-delivery/   BYD DEBUTS E-SEED GT CONCEPT, SONG PRO AND E SERIES AT AUTO SHANGHAI At the Auto Shanghai 2019, BYD has unveiled its E-SEED GT concept car and Song Pro SUV alongside its all-new e-series models on April 16 at the 18th International Automobile Industry Exhibition. The company also showcased its latest Dynasty series of vehicles, which were recently unveiled at the company’s spring product launch in Beijing. A total of 23 new car models were exhibited at the event, held at Shanghai’s National Convention and Exhibition Center, fully demonstrating the BYD New Architecture (BNA) design, the 3rd generation of Dual Mode technology, plus the world-leading e-platform framework.   IN MARCH 2019 JAGUAR SOLD OVER 2,000 I-PACE "Jaguar I-PACE sales reported by the manufacturer increased in March to a near-record level of 2,044, which turns out to be 8.4% of total volume for the brand globally." according to InsideEVs.com: "Hopefully, the output will continue to increase or at least stay above 2,000 per month."   https://insideevs.com/march-2019-jaguar-sold-2000-i-pace/   THIS CLASSIC FORD BRONCO IS FULLY ELECTRIC AND TO DIE FOR "Zero Labs Automotive is showing off its plan to build an electric version of the original Ford Bronco. More than just slapping an electric motor under the hood and pushing them out the door, this project also gives the off-roader modern luxury with things like real wood interior panels and digital instruments. The company plans to build an initial run of 150 of them and reservations are open now." writes Chris Bruce for Motor1.com: "Zero Labs Automotive Bronco electric restomod has a claimed 360-horsepower (269-kilowatt) output. A 70-kilowatt-hour battery allows for a 190-mile (306-kilometer) range. The motor runs through a five-speed manual transmission, which seems like an odd choice considering most electric vehicles use just a single speed.   https://www.motor1.com/news/345513/ford-bronco-ev-conversion/   ALEXANDER FRANK Yes, I’d love my Model 3 making money for me while I’m not using it, which is actually most of the week while I’m working (Monday – Friday). I can’t park at my work, that’s why I’m taking my electric scooter or my  Renault Twizy (or soon VanMoof electric bike). I’d only add it to the Tesla Network after I’d feel comfortable watching Netflix while being driven by the car though. I love the cabin facing camera, gives me some ease. My day would then look like this: I’d unplug my Tesla Model 3 from my 11kw home charger, it’d drive me to work while I listen to your podcasts, once in the city at my work there’s no need to park, it would go about earning money. An hour or so before I want to leave work I’d press a button on the app and the car would wait for me outside to take me back home. LOVE IT!   RAJEEV NARAYAN I may not be ready to use my primary EV as an automated taxi, as if something happened to it I would be without a car. If, however when it came time to buy a new EV, I would be wiling to get the old one be an automated taxi, instead of simply trading it in. I imagine a future where a network of privately and company owned EVs run by Uber, Lyft or even Tesla act as automated Taxis, and the ride sharing company pays you a fee to use your car. This would allow the owner to make a little extra income, while reducing capital costs to the taxi company.   JOHN FRUHWIRTH No, I will not hire my Tesla out. It is my dream car, I am emotionally attached to it and can't see myself treating it as a utility vehicle to make money for me.   MARK RICHARDS I park in a garage, so it isn’t practical to make my car available in a car share network.  I don’t live in a city, in fact I am on the very edge of “civilization”, so I don’t think there would be much demand out here.   Robyn Edwards Perth Western Australia NO..  I am receiving my Kona in 2.5 hours.... I will feel edgy if my partner drives it! A complete stranger? Never. I share pool vehicles at work, I see how they are treated and that is a closed group!   KARL CRAMER I once drove for a ride sharing service and people would do disrespectful things to my car while I was still in it driving them, like leaving garbage or scratching at the roof fabric. I can't imagine what jerks would do if there was no one. I'll definitely use the service but I'm not going to sacrifice MY car to the horde.   NEIL I don't think I would let my car be used, not because I would worry about it,but because I would worry about how it got charged. With a model 3 I would use about 40% of the battery for the daily commute. With another 40% for saving the battery life and cold weather allowance that would only leave 20% for that taxi service. I would want to see automatic charging stations like the Tesla snake they showed a few years ago before I would think of reconsidering.   ASHLEY HILL depending on the options I'm considering it though is a few other things that make it easily worthwhile; like if was part of a Co-Operative (say a US$2000 deposit buy in) and if someone did cause troubles with it fleet would be large enough that I would have access to another one while fixes got underway. Would also do if remote operation instead of full self driving was on the table for same deal; would let someone remote drive it to another driver similar to current car next door /car share service; especially if the Tesla implemented an always on "near-impossible to crash" feature.     COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Keep your comments coming in on email and YouTube…   What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard about EVs?   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 216 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. While the latter promises progressive driving enjoyment with its coupé-like lines, the Concept GLB places the emphasis on spaciousness and robustness. The concept car (length/width/height: 4,634/1,890/1,900* millimetres) has space for up to seven occupants thanks to its long wheelbase (2,829 millimetres). Show #447   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 16th April 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today, and picked out the best ones to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Welcome to the family a new Patreon PRODUCER TORSTEN WILD.   MERCEDES-BENZ EQC EDITION 1886 ADDS EXCLUSIVITY TO THE ELECTRIC SUV A limited special edition EQC Edition 1886 has been announced at the New York Auto Show as a tribute to the first motor car, and looking forward at a new era for Daimler. "As for the name, it’s obviously a callback to the 1886 Benz Patent-Motorwagen – the vehicle widely recognized as the first production car. Mechanically speaking, everything about the EQC Edition 1886 is just as you’ll find it on the standard model. A pair of electric motors drive all four wheels with a combined output of 402 horsepower (300 kilowatts), drawing power from an 80 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Mercedes estimates the EQC’s range between 277 and 293 miles, with the capability for fast charging at 110 kW when such high-output stations are available" writes Chris Smith for motor1.com: "The standard EQC is expected to arrive in June for the European market, with U.S. sales beginning next year. The Edition 1886 is also slated to go on sale in the U.S. next year. Pricing for either model hasn’t been announced yet." I think that points towards Mercedes engineers having done a great job on efficiency, because 80kWh is less than others are using for the same size vehicle, if you look at the 95kWh Audi e-tron which just scrapes over 200 miles on the EPA range.   https://www.motor1.com/news/345040/mercedes-benz-eqc-edition-1886/   WORLD CAR AWARDS GIVES JAGUAR I-PACE THREE HONORS "The Jaguar I-Pace was a critical darling of the World Car of the Year Awards, announced Wednesday at the New York Auto Show. It nabbed the World Car of the Year Award, as well as honors for Green Car and Design." says Zac for InsideEVs.com: "The other two finalists for the World Car of the Year award, announced last month at the Geneva Motor Show, were the Audi E-Tron and the Volvo S60/V60. The I-Pace shared its World Green Car award with the Audi, while the hydrogen fuel cell Hyundai Nexo was also nominated for that honor. Jaguar Director of Design, Ian Callum, was in New York to receive the awards. Underscoring the significance of the awards, he said that “going green” was going to happen to the whole industry and that cars like the I-Pace are the start of the journey."   https://insideevs.com/2019-ny-auto-show-jaguar-world-car/   LOTUS ANNOUNCES ‘WORLD’S FIRST FULL ELECTRIC BRITISH HYPERCAR’, UNVEILS TEASER "Lotus confirmed that it is working on what they describe as the “world’s first full electric British hypercar” and it unveiled a teaser image for the electric vehicle." writes Fred for Electrek today: "There have been rumors about Lotus going electric with a $2.5 million 1,000 hp hypercar ever since Geely took a majority stake in the British automaker. At the Shanghai International Auto Show, Lotus has now confirmed that an all-electric hypercar called Type 130 is in “advanced stages of development.”   https://electrek.co/2019/04/16/lotus-type-130-full-electric-british-hypercar-teaser/   BATTERY-POWERED TOYOTA C-HR HIGHLIGHTS ELECTRIC DEBUTS IN CHINA Toyota love to promote their cars with the phrase "we choose not to plug in". Which is awkward because we know all cars are going electric and will have to have a plug. But how quickly will that happen? How about now. "Toyota has just jumped into the battery-powered pool, revealing a small collection of all-electrics at the Auto Shanghai 2019. The most notable was its compact crossover, the C-HR EV. It’s the first completely electrified vehicle from the Japanese brand to come to China. Curiously, the other main EV is also the C-HR, but wears a badge proclaiming itself to be the Izoa EV. It, according to Autocar, will be built by the state-owned outfit FAW. Toyota says the twins should be offered to consumers in 2020." reports InsideEVs.com: "The appearance of the all-electric C-HR sparks the inevitable questions, “Will it come to other markets?” While we have no definitive answer, the automaker reminds us that it plans to introduce more than 10 battery-electric vehicles before 2025. While we would hope it makes its way outside of China, the automaker has yet to release technical specifications for the vehicle, so it’s difficult to judge how well suited it might be for Western markets."   https://insideevs.com/toyota-c-hr-ev-china-rhombus-izoa-video/   ALL-ELECTRIC GENESIS MINT CONCEPT REVEALED IN NEW YORK Genesis revealed the Mint Concept at Hudson Yards, ahead of the opening of the 2019 New York International Auto Show. The Mint Concept introduces the all-electric, luxury car for the city, a new vehicle typology, featuring organic design and an innovative interior user experience. The versatility of the Mint Concept extends to the design and engineering of its high- density, battery-electric powertrain, which is capable of an estimated 200 miles per full charge and 350-KW fast recharging.   TESLA LAUNCHES BATTERY RECYCLING AT NEVADA GIGAFACTORY "In its latest environmental impact statement, Tesla announced that it will open its own battery recycling facility. Tesla has been recycling batteries made at the factory using third-party recyclers. Now, as the earliest Model S's reach 7 years old, and the company is starting to receive some batteries back after use in those early cars, it's setting up its own battery recycling facility." says Eric for Green Car Reports: "The new processing center at the company's Gigafactory in Sparks, Nevada to process both old batteries used in customers' Teslas as well as those from its own research and development. The company says lithium, cobalt, aluminum, copper, and steel will be recovered from the batteries in a closed-loop system that optimizes the materials for new battery production. "   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1122631_tesla-launches-battery-recycling-at-nevada-gigafactory   FASTNED OPENS ITS FIRST 350 KW CHARGING STATION IN THE UK "Fastned just expanded to the United Kingdom, opening not only its first fast-charging station there, but also the first in the UK ready for 350 kW of charging power. It’s located on West Wear Street, which is one of Sunderland’s busiest central routes. Sunderland is also known for its Nissan manufacturing plant, which produces the LEAF for the European market." reports InsideEVs.com; Fastned say: "“Initially, charging at the station in Sunderland will be free. The free charging will end during 2019 as soon as the payment system is activated, from that moment an introductory price will be charged. Charging and paying will then be possible with a EV charge card, debit/credit card, Apple Pay and Android Pay. Later in the year it will also be possible to charge with the Fastned App, making automatic charging (Autocharge) possible in the United Kingdom for the first time.”   https://insideevs.com/fastned-opens-first-350-kw-charging-station/   VW OF AMERICA TO GAUGE US APPETITE FOR MQB-BASED TAROK PICKUP CONCEPT AT NY SHOW "Volkswagen of America (VoA) plans to show the Tarok pickup concept for the first time in the US at the New York International Auto Show. Although there are no plans to produce the vehicle for the US market, VoA is showing the Tarok concept to gauge market reaction for a versatile and compact entry-level pickup. The US is the largest global market for pickups." To me this says one thing - it's not about selling diesel trucks, it's VW looking at their electric vehicle offering and Tesla Truck, the Rivian and others, and seeing a lucrative market possibly being closed off to them.'   SONO MOTORS TO BUILD SION EV AT SAAB’S FORMER FACTORY IN SWEDEN The first series production solar electric vehicle (SEV) developed by the German mobility provider Sono Motors is to be manufactured in Sweden. As Sono Motors officially announced today, the first generation of the Sion will be produced in Trollhättan by National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS). The plant located there was home to the production lines of the long-standing and innovative automobile manufacturer SAAB. In total, an initial 260,000 vehicles will roll off the production line in Trollhättan over an eight-year period. Production will commence in the second half of 2020. After the ramp-up period, approximately 43,000 Sion a year will be manufactured in two-shift operations. Production will be carried out using one hundred percent renewable energy. A bidirectional charging function enables the Sion to both receive and supply electricity, power electrical devices independently, and feed energy to other vehicles or into the electricity grid. Thanks to full-surface solar integration, the vehicle battery can be charged with pure and free solar energy worth up to 34 kilometers’ range per day in addition to its regular WLTP range of 255 kilometers. For its market launch, the Sion will be rolled out in one single variant version costing 25,500 euros. There are plans afoot to develop other vehicle models based on the vehicle’s platform.   VOLKSWAGEN ID. R USES DRS FORMULA 1 TECHNOLOGY FOR NÜRBURGRING RUN "Volkswagen has set itself a new challenge with the ID. R this year – the Nürburgring-Nordschleife instead of Pikes Peak. A race track instead of a hill climb. Full-throttle sections instead of hair-pins. Because of this, the fully electric-powered ID. R has been continuously developed with respect to its aerodynamics." says Electric Vehicle News: "As well as an adapted floor and a new spoiler at the front of the vehicle, the ID. R will also sport a newly designed rear wing. It will be much lower than the variant used at Pikes Peak, in order to provide less surface resistance to the flow of air. The new multi-wing rear of the ID. R will nevertheless produce high downforce in the medium-fast turns of the 73-corner Nordschleife. To further reduce the drag in certain sections, the rear wing will deploy technology known from its use in Formula 1 – the so-called Drag Reduction System (DRS). In the pinnacle class of motorsport, DRS is used in order to facilitate overtaking by allowing for higher speeds. During the ID. R’s solo-drive, however, the opening element of the rear wing will be used exclusively to preserve the remaining energy reserves."   http://www.electric-vehiclenews.com/2019/04/volkswagen-id-r-uses-drs-formula-1.html   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Show #445   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 16th April 2019. ANDERS HOVE – PATREON EXECUTIVE PRODUCER: “I was listening this morning to your guesses about the pronunciation of AI.ME. Since the concept was released at the Shanghai auto show, and could be intended for China, this is probably a play on words, since "ai" is the verb "to love." It'S pronounced the same as "aye" in "aye aye, captain." So "aye ... me.".   Reasons to have Sentry Mode: An email from Brian Thompson. “Willie Singletary, Council Candidate Hits Tesla Model 3 with Escalade and leaves scene.”   AUTO SHANGHAI 2019: THE ELECTRIC VEHICLES TO LOOK FORWARD TO "it's no surprise that the Auto Shanghai 2019, which begins on April 16, will have more EVs and EV concepts on display than you can point a finger at. Here's some of the ones that we think will stand out." says Overdrive.in. Their picks are: Possibly of most interest to us is the production version of the Renault K-ZE. As the looks suggest, this will be the electric version of the Renault Kwid. It will be based on a heavily modified version of the Kwid's CMF-A platform and will have a 250 km range. The Buick Velite 6 is a heavily revised version of the second generation Chevrolet Volt. The PHEV version debut first and be powered by the same 1.5 litre petrol motor and 18.4 kWh battery pack. The full EV version is expected to have a 85 kW motor with a claimed range of 291 km." They also rate the NIO EP7 performance sedan, the Audi Q2 etron which is like an electric A2 for China only, the Aston Martin Rapide E and the Geely GE 11 - "the first global model from Geely's newly-created EV brand "Geely New Energy". Internationally it will be available under the Geometry brand. "   http://overdrive.in/news-cars-auto/auto-shanghai-2019-the-electric-vehicles-to-look-forward-to/   RENAULT KWID EV (CITY K-ZE) REVEALED AT SHANGHAI MOTOR SHOW "Renault has showcased the production version of the Kwid EV at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show. The EV is based on the same CMF-A platform as the Kwid, albeit with a few modifications to accommodate batteries and an electric motor. However the specifications of the same haven't been revealed yet." reports ZigWheels: "while it has not been officially revealed, the City K-ZE will have an approximate range close to 250Km. Inside, the cabin remains largely similar to the Kwid with a functional setup. Key highlights include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system which also gets online navigation, real time monitoring for EV features, 4G WiFi and voice recognition. the Renault City K-ZE packs PM2.5 sensors and an air quality control system, which evaluates cabin air quality and switches between interior and exterior air circulation automatically. It also gets features like a rear camera and a tyre pressure monitoring system."   https://www.zigwheels.com/news-features/news/renault-kwid-ev-city-kze-revealed-at-shanghai-motor-show/33576/   NEW NIO ET PREVIEW ELECTRIC CAR REVEALED IN SHANGHAI "At the Auto Shanghai 2019, Chinese EV startup NIO showed off its all new sedan product lineup with the ET Preview and exhibited its entire NIO Power service solution as well as some cutting-edge technologies such as the 220kW permanent magnet synchronous motor electric drivetrain." reports Gasgoo for InsideEVs.com "The EV maker also showcased such products as the high-performance electric flagship ES8 SUV; the high-performance long-range, intelligent electric ES6 SUV; the ultrafast electric car, the EP9; the NIO EVE Vision car and NIO Formula E Team car, the NIO 004."   https://insideevs.com/new-nio-et-preview-electric-car-revealed/   KARMA DEBUTS BEAUTIFUL PININFARINA DESIGNED ELECTRIC COUPE "Aside from the Karma Revero GT (yes, it’s an updated variant of the Fisker Karma from 2016) which is a production vehicle going on sale soon, Karma Automotive has an interesting two-door concept debuting at the 2019 Auto Shanghai. The so-called Pininfarina GT is based on the Revero GT and, as its name suggests, has been designed by Pininfarina." according to Anthony Karr from Motor1.com: "The official press release says this is the “first result of a partnership with Pininfarina, the iconic Italian design and engineering house,” which hints at potential future products developed in cooperation between the two companies. While the coupe has the exterior dimensions of the Revero GT, the overall appearance is sportier thanks to the shorter rear overhang and the long hood. We believe the two-door vehicle has the same powertrain as the Revero GT, which means there’s a BMW-sourced 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo engine, an onboard electric generator, and two electric motors for a combined output of 535 horsepower (399 kilowatts) and 550 pound-feet (746 lb-ft) of torque."   https://insideevs.com/karma-debuts-pininfarina-electric-coupe/   ELECTRA MECCANICA SHIPS SOLO FROM CHINA TO NORTH AMERICA "Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, Electra Meccanica Vehicle, has signed a contract with Crane Worldwide Logistics to move its single-passenger, three-wheel Solo model from its assembly plant in Chongqing to the ports of Los Angeles in the US and Vancouver, Canada." according to the website Automotive Logistics: "Electra Meccanica is currently ramping up mass production of its Solo electric vehicle at its Chongqing manufacturing facility in China for delivery to customers there and abroad in 2019. According to official figures from the EV maker it has 64,000 pre-orders on its books."   https://automotivelogistics.media/news/157291   HYUNDAI & H2E: 1,600 FUEL CELL TRUCKS FOR EUROPE "Hyundai and the Swiss company H2 Energy (H2E) have confirmed their commitment to establishing a joint venture called Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility. The JV’s first goal is to open up the European hydrogen mobility ecosystem with fuel cell trucks." writes Carrie Hamel for electrive.com: "Hyundai will supply a total of 1,600 fuel cell-powered heavy trucks to Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility from 2019 to 2025 – 600 more than originally announced in a memorandum of understanding signed in 2018 between H2E and Hyundai. The Swiss company H2E specialises in the production and supply of renewable hydrogen in Switzerland with subsidiaries in Germany, Norway and Austria and they will be responsible for marketing the fleet."   https://www.electrive.com/2019/04/15/hyundai-h2e-1600-fuel-cell-trucks-for-european-market/   MINI SURVEY CLAIMS CUSTOMERS ARE HAPPY WITH 75 MILES OF EV RANGE "In this survey from MINI USA, the brand asked 1,004 adults over the age of 18 (502 men and 502 women) a series of questions to determine what a necessary average range. While the questions asked were not disclosed to us, the brand claims that a resulting average range of 75 miles was deemed “sufficient”." says BMW blog: "MINI also learned from this survey that the majority of customers find EVs to be best used in city driving or for commuting. The latter of which is assuming it’s a relatively short commute. This information is likely to factor into the size of battery packs used in upcoming EV MINIs. The first one to come is the upcoming MINI E, which is said to use the same 42.2 kWh battery pack as the BMW i3 and get around 120 miles of range."   https://www.bmwblog.com/2019/04/15/mini-survey-claims-customers-are-happy-with-75-miles-of-ev-range/   TESLA'S CONSTANT PRICE CHANGES FRUSTRATE BUYERS "Last week, Tesla changed the prices on their cars again. In just the last few months there have been a huge number of price changes, particularly on the Model 3" says a Forbes article which goes on to track every price change since, a 12 point list which follows the changing face of Autopilot and the $35,000 Model 3 which came and (partially) went. It's a toughtful article by Brad Templeton and talks about buyers remorse, how cellphones have been commodotised. "Elon Musk has had a few things to say about this. First, he points out that prices on other maker's cars fluctuate all the time due to specials, dealer rebates, and plain old negotiation. He says Tesla is just doing it transparently and should not be blamed for doing the right thing. There is some merit to this, but the fact that somebody can get $3,000 off a car by negotiating at the dealer does not affect the price of existing cars nearly as much. He also points out that Teslas, unlike other cars before them, keep getting new features with software updates, which are given to all owners whose cars can handle them."   https://www.forbes.com/sites/bradtempleton/2019/04/15/teslas-constant-price-changes-frustrate-buyers-even-more-is-likely-as-cars-become-computers/#6bba873e5da9   TOYOTA SELLS ELECTRIC CAR TECHNOLOGY TO CHINESE STARTUP IN RETURN FOR GREEN CAR CREDITS "Toyota has agreed to sell its electric car technology to Chinese startup Singulato, in a move which will give it preferential rights to buy green credits under China’s new quota system for electric vehicles (EVs)." according to City AM newspaper: "The green car credit system, introduced in January, requires a significant portion of car makers’ production or imports in China must be electric or hybrid. Those that do not meet the quota themselves can purchase credits from rivals that exceed it, but if they do not have enough credits they face government fines for their operations in China. Singulato is developing a mini EV which it hopes to release later this year. This will generate credits for the startup, some of which Toyota will then purchase. Toyota has already said that initially it won’t be able to meet its quotas without buying credits from others."   http://www.cityam.com/276295/toyota-sells-electric-car-technology-chinese-startup-return   CHEVY BOLT EUV NAME TRADEMARKED, ELECTRIC CROSSOVER COMING? "An interesting patent filing by General Motors hints the upcoming second electric vehicle from the automaker could be a high-riding machine. First unearthed by GM Authority, the Bolt EUV moniker has been trademarked by GM earlier this month and will be used for “motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles.” says Motor1.com today: "As GM Authority reports, the name is probably going to be used for Chevrolet’s next Bolt-based EV. In March this year, the American manufacturer confirmed it will build the all-electric car at its Orion facility where the Bolt is currently produced. A new $300-million investment in the factory was also confirmed and a plan for approximately 400 new jobs at the site."   https://www.motor1.com/news/344658/chevrolet-bolt-euv-trademark-rumors/   WHY TESLA DEFINES AMERICAN LUXURY, NOT CADILLAC OR LINCOLN "Americans are at our best when we look forward instead of at what others are doing. Cadillac and Lincoln used to epitomize this idea." says MotorTrend: "While Cadillac has spent the past three decades copying BMW's homework, and Lincoln spent the same time building cost-cut, rebadged Fords and Mercurys, the soul of American luxury escaped Detroit. Today, it has settled in sunny California. Tesla's tech and engineering is class leading, and delivers benchmark EV performance and range. And the vehicles are (relatively) expensive, requiring early adopters to be of a certain socio-economic status. They have become part of the fabric of today's luxury consumer society, a car many buyers of mainstream automobiles now aspire to own because of what it would say about their own status. Tesla is therefore a genuine modern luxury brand."   https://www.motortrend.com/news/why-tesla-defines-american-luxury-not-cadillac-lincoln/   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   Hello to new Patreon PRODUCER MARTIN HORNER   VOLKSWAGEN PUSHES BATTERY PARTNERS TO BUILD GIGAFACTORIES "Volkswagen is pushing its joint venture partners including SK Innovation (SKI) to build electric car battery plants which have at least one Gigawatt manufacturing capacity, Chief Executive Herbert Diess told Reuters." in a report today: "Volkswagen will buy 50 billion euros ($56.57 billion) worth of battery cells for electric cars and has identified South Korea’s SKI, LG Chem and Samsung SDI as strategic battery cell suppliers as well as China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL)."   https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-autoshow-shanghai-vw/volkswagen-pushes-battery-partners-to-build-gigafactories-idUKKCN1RR09A?utm_source=applenews   PORSCHE JAPAN SELECTS ABB TO BUILD CHADEMO INFRASTRUCTURE FOR TAYCAN "ABB announced that it was selected by Porsche Japan for a joint development project of next-generation EV chargers for the Japanese market" says InsideEVs today: "According to the press release, the two will develop a “dedicated high-power charger” with power output exceeding 150 kW." From the press release: "“ABB has entered into an agreement to deliver its market-leading electric vehicle infrastructure for Porsche Japan’s EVs, including Taycan, the automaker’s first fully electric car, set to enter the Japanese market in 2020. Under the terms, Porsche Japan will install ABB’s high-power chargers at Porsche Centers and public facilities across the country, creating a network of fast chargers for its electric vehicles. The first installation is set to go live in mid-2020."   https://insideevs.com/porsche-japan-chademo-charging-infrastructure/   AUDI AI:ME UNVEILED AS REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE EV FOR THE CITY" "The Volkswagen I.D. Roomzz isn’t the only new fully electric concept VAG is introducing at the Auto Shanghai 2019 in China as Audi is also attending the event to showcase the new AI:ME. Sending out a futuristic A2 vibe, the new showcar carrying the Four Rings takes the shape of a compact zero-emissions hatchback developed primarily for city use." reports Adrian Padeanu for Motor1.com: "Audi believes an equivalent production version would mostly travel at speeds between 20 and 70 kph (12 to 43 mph) over short distances. With that in mind, the AI:ME was conceived with a simple hardware configuration encompassing a 65-kWh battery pack ideal for city use, although the actual range isn’t specified. The design is as futuristic as you’d expect from a concept, complete with rear suicide doors and the absence of conventional B-pillars. Intricate LED headlights and taillights lend the electric hatch a high-tech look, while the use of real plants inside the minimalistic cabin is a first in an automobile, according to Audi. Not that it comes as a big surprise, but the AI:ME has been envisioned with a highly advanced autonomous driving system with level 4 capabilities."   https://www.motor1.com/news/344623/audi-ai-me-concept-revealed/   DUBAI POLICE UNVEIL NEW FLEET OF ELECTRIC CARS "Police in Dubai are going green with their new eco-friendly fleet of electric patrol cars to support the emirate's sustainability drive. Dubai Police officers will be getting behind the wheel of 13 Renault Zoe electric cars, secured from Arabian Automobiles." according to TheNational.ae: "Dubai Police is not the only state service helping to protect the planet. In February, Dubai Corporation of Ambulance Services unveiled the Zero DS, which produces no heat, vibration or fumes. The ambulance service said the emergency vehicle would be used for rapid intervention and immediate response situations."   https://www.thenational.ae/uae/environment/dubai-police-unveil-new-fleet-of-electric-cars-1.849076   TESLA DELIVERS FIRST $35,000 MODEL 3S TO A HAPPY FEW CUSTOMERS "Tesla has started deliveries of the long-promised Model 3 for $35,000 to a happy few customers, but the delivery of the promised vehicle is expected to be short lived." says Fred at Electrek today: "After Tesla announced that it is moving away from the promised base version of Model 3 at $35,000 last week, the automaker confirmed that it would start deliveries this weekend with a software-locked version of the Model 3 Standard Range Plus. Now several buyers have reached out to Electrek to confirm that they have taken delivery of the ‘Model 3 Standard Range’. The vehicle is virtually identical to the more expensive Standard Range Plus version of the Model 3 except that Tesla has software-locked the battery pack at 90% of its capacity and disabled some features like “onboard music streaming service, navigation with live traffic visualization, and heated seats.”   https://electrek.co/2019/04/15/tesla-delivers-35000-model-3/   PURE ELECTRIC VEHICLES ENTER PHASE OF FASTEST GROWTH REPORT CLAIMS A series of new reports from IDTechEx Research says the electric vehicles have officially entered their fastest phase of growth. While good news, it isn't too unexpected. Rapid improvements in technology have expanded the electric vehicle market in so many ways." Battery costs have dropped whilst their range and efficiency have increased. At the same time, governments across the world are embracing policies that emphasis no carbon emission transport. One of the studies by the independent market research company examines the rise of electric buses across the globe."   https://interestingengineering.com/pure-electric-vehicles-enter-phase-of-fastest-growth-report-claims   ELON MUSK SAYS TESLA IS “VASTLY AHEAD” ON SELF-DRIVING "Tesla is less than two years away from full self-driving, CEO Elon Musk said in an interview with MIT researcher Lex Fridman published on Friday. And he said Tesla was far ahead of other companies working on self-driving technology." according to Ars Technica article today: "Musk told Fridman that Tesla customers would need to keep their hands on the wheel "for at least six months or something like that." But he predicted that soon—"maybe even toward the end of this year, I'd be shocked if it's not next year at the latest"—Tesla's self-driving technology will become so good that "having a human intervene will decrease safety."   https://arstechnica.com/cars/2019/04/elon-musk-says-tesla-is-vastly-ahead-on-self-driving/   LOTUS TO UNVEIL £1M+ ELECTRIC HYPERCAR AT SHANGHAI MOTOR SHOW "BRITISH car maker Lotus is set to pull the wraps off a £1m+ pure-electric hypercar at the Shanghai Motor Show later today." says the Sunday Times Driving: "The low-volume sports car’s £1m+ pure-electric performance model would sit at the top of the Lotus family tree, and go up against extreme supercars from Aston Martin and McLaren. Show #443   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 14th April 2019. Hello to new Patreon PRODUCER Pete Stothard holland   DAVID FINCH : I’ve just listened to the Saturday podcast. I’m not sure if it’s worthy of a little correction or not, but you quoted Elon as saying deliveries starting May / June, when in fact his tweet said “hopefully June / July”.   RENE SCHNIEDER: "I just got a letter these minutes that the standard range plus is available for order in Switzerland: „From today on the Model 3 Standard Range Plus is available in Switzerland."   TOM RAFTERY: "It that time of year to organise the summer holidays (possibly I’ve left it a bit late already!). And I want to bring the family to Norway to show them what a country with a high penetration of Evs can look like (and to take in the beautiful scenery Norway can offer). I have been trying to find information on EV hire options in Norway, and there isn’t a lot out there (that I found)."   RIVIAN R1T TRUCK & R1S SUV WOW NYC AHEAD OF AUTO SHOW "The New York Auto Show doesn’t officially open to the public until April 19th, but that doesn’t mean the fun hasn’t already started. The weekend before an auto show opens is usually the real kickoff party, with manufacturers trying to get a jump on the competition, and many opt to show off their new vehicles before they hit the show floor the following week. That precisely what Rivian did with its R1T electric pickup truck and R1S electric SUV." reports Tom " InsideEVs.com: "These events were mostly for VIPs and reservation holders; they weren’t press events where we could schedule interview time, so unfortunately nothing new was learned. I suspect if Rivian is going to announce any new news, it will be done so during the Auto Show for maximum exposure. As you might expect, the crowd was extremely enthusiastic, and it reminded me of how it feels at Tesla events. Since most of the people in attendance were reservation holders, they were already on-board with what Rivian is doing. Plus, for most, it was their first opportunity to see the vehicles that they plunked $1,000 down on to reserve."   https://insideevs.com/rivian-wows-nyc-r1t-electric-pickup-truck-video/   MITCH EVANS EARNS FIRST FORMULA E VICTORY FOR PANASONIC JAGUAR RACING Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Mitch Evans claims an emotional first victory in Rome with DS Techeetah’s Andre Lotterer in second and HWA Racelab’s Stoffel Vandoorne bringing home both his and the team’s first podium finish in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship. Evans stalked the back of Lotterer’s car in the opening phase of the race, with the DS TECHEETAH driver unable to pull a gap. With both teams and drivers evenly-matched on pace, it became a tactical battle about when to deploy ATTACK MODE.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ccQUaK9RlM   AUDI ANNOUNCES Q2 L E-TRON WITH 38 KWH BATTERY FOR CHINA From the Audi Press Office: "two electric models will make their series debut in Shanghai: the Audi e-tron* and the Q2 L e-tron, which was designed especially for China and is built in the Foshan plant. The compact SUV, which will be delivered to the first customers in the summer of 2019, is even experiencing its world premiere in Shanghai. Audi CEO Bram Schot: “With both the Audi Q2 L e-tron and Audi e-tron electric models, we are launching a new era in China with our partner FAW. The compact SUV will be produced locally already this year and, beginning in 2020, the Audi e-tron will also be produced in China, our largest and most important market worldwide.” The body of the Audi Q2 L e-tron is 33 millimeters (1.3 in) longer than that of the basic model. The car is powered by an electric motor on the front axle that mobilizes 100 kilowatts and 290 newton meters (213.9 lb-ft). With a battery capacity of 38 kilowatt hours, it has a range of up to 265 kilometers (164.7 mi), determined according to the local homologation procedure."   https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/press-releases/audi-at-auto-shanghai-2019-11479   POLESTAR 2 PUTS FOCUS ON CHINA WITH MANUFACTURING SITE AND FIRST POLESTAR SPACE LOCATION CONFIRMED At the Chinese debut of the Polestar 2 in Shanghai, Polestar confirmed that production of the new electric performance fastback will take place in Luqiao, Zhejiang Province, from early 2020. The production facility will also produce world-class Volvo and Lynk & Co. models that share their core CMA platform with Polestar 2. Polestar 2 is the first car on the modular chassis to feature a fully electric drivetrain. Thomas Ingeleth, Chief Executive Officer at Polestar: “Being able to produce Polestar 2 in the Luqiao plant in China shows the clear synergies of our ownership structure and gives us a great industrial advantage. With Geely and Volvo Cars as our owners, we are able to leverage their expertise in many different ways. Manufacturing is one of the most important areas, helping us accelerate our progress and entry into the market with the confidence that Polestar 2 production will begin as planned early next year.” Following the confirmation in 2018 that the first-ever Polestar Space will be located in Oslo, Norway, Polestar has now confirmed that the first Polestar Space in China will be located in central Beijing. Establishing the Polestar footprint initially in Oslo and Beijing highlights two of the world’s most influential electric car markets as primary targets for the brand. The Polestar Space in Beijing will open in late 2019 and signals the roll-out of Polestar Spaces in China. Around 20 facilities spread between 11 Chinese cities will be opened during 2020 – about one third of all initial Polestar Spaces expected to be opened globally.   ELON MUSK ANNOUNCES APRIL 22 AS START OF TESLA FULL SELF DRIVING "Tesla announced a new event – Tesla Autonomy Investor Day – on April 22 at its headquarters in Palo Alto. There are not many details about the event, besides the topic of autonomous driving. According to Elon Musk, investors can expect a demo of full autonomous driving," says Mark Kane for InsideEVs.com: "One of the biggest projects is the Tesla Network – a fleet of autonomous cars, available for sharing. It would be a double win for the manufacturer – first because it provides another stream of revenue and second because Tesla could use cars at the end of lease (no buyout option was previously announced)."   https://insideevs.com/musk-announces-april-22-as-start-of-tesla-full-self-driving/   VOLKSWAGEN UNVEILS ID. ROOMZZ ELECTRIC SUV CONCEPT IN SHANGHAI; SERIES MODEL IN 2021 Volkswagen is expanding its electric ID. product range with a multi-variable all-round model: the new ID. ROOMZZ—a zero-emission SUV in the five meter category. Volkswagen will present the concept car as part of a world première at Auto Shanghai (18 to 26 April) in an homage to China, currently the largest market for zero-emission vehicles. The series version of the ID. ROOMZZ—which follows on the more compact ID. CROZZ—is scheduled to take to the road from 2021. Alongside the ID. ROOMZZ, the ID. CROZZ and the compact ID. (all set to have a market début in 2020), other members of this new electric vehicle family include the iconic ID. BUZZ van and the avant-garde saloon ID. VIZZION (both will make their market début in 2022). in the European WLTP cycle the maximum range is 450 kilometers (280 miles). The battery is charged via an inductive interface. Conventional charging via a plug is also possible. The ID. ROOMZZ combines its IQ.DRIVE systems, enabling the concept car to navigate traffic all by itself (fully automated) as desired. Volkswagen is consolidating all assistance systems and technologies involved in autonomous driving under the umbrella brand IQ.DRIVE."   https://www.greencarcongress.com/2019/04/20190414-roomzz.html   QUESTION OF THE WEEK BRIAN THOMPSON Several reasons to be reticent... - Parts and service centers are not readily available -if you had rich rebuilds in your town, I would consider -I've recently had some things crop up at 70k on my 85 S that would have cost a lot had it not have been a covered under warranty. They replaced the entire battery pack.  Then a couple thousand miles later the charge port went out.  On the loaner they gave me, that car had 50k on it, the main screen went out... -if you had rich rebuilds knowledge, then you could go for it, but at 250k there is no, zero, zippo warranty and you would be covering the cost.  If you still are interested, call and ask Tesla what the cost is to get a rebuilt high voltage battery pack, as well as getting the main CPU and screen replaced, as well as drive unit and inverter. Those are the big ticket items. If this was ten years from now and there were lots of used parts available then it would be a different situation.  I would try to claw my way into a CPO car with less than 50k on it, that way it comes with 4 year 50k warranty. In the US, tesla is selling the 2012 and 2013 85s in the low $30,000 with financing.   RAJEEV NARAYAN I think one should expect to have to put some money into any vehicle with > 250,000 miles, with respect to EVs the question is the longevity of the expensive bits- the powertrain and the battery. It is known that an electric powertrain generally lasts much longer, in fact I think Tesla even suggested their powertrain can go potentially > 1 million miles. With respect to the battery, I know the NMC 622 cells in most EVs nowadays can cycle about 2,000 to 3,000 times before i'ts capacity has degraded to 80 to 90%, at which point they say it's "unsuitable" for further EV use, though in my opinion that's debatable- given the C rating of most of these battery cells. My Chevy Bolt has a 60kWH battery and EPA estimate of 3.8miles/kWH, giving 456,000 to 684,000 miles.   ASEER A EV is different and a million mile is not that outlandish a claim as motors run production lines 24/7 for many years and we don’t expect them to fail quickly today the same would be true for EVs and given that brakes also last longer (regen) it seems if your a highmiler EV is an obvious choice. This is before we take into consideration comfort and space.   JON AKA BEARDY MCBEARDFACE Firstly I think you should go for a high mileage Tesla, I would if I could afford it. Would make a great story to write about and to follow...”Life with a super high mileage Tesla” or “High mileage Tesla....what could go wrong”   JOHN FRUHWIRTH Given what I know now, Yes, I would buy a very high mileage EV but iff (if and only if) it is was a Tesla model 3. Why? Because: Its drive train is guaranteed for 1 million miles. Its batteries should last anywhere from 300k-500k miles. It's frame has been over engineered. It is the safest car on the road ...John Fruhwirth   TOBE IN SAN DIEGO I for one think it'd be brilliant for you to get the super high mileage Tesla and keep us apprised of your trials and tribulations with it...if you can afford it. I presume that could at least be considered a business expense for a podcaster like you.  I would definitely worry that it could  end up costing costing you some pounds though.   (plus in depth story about his 2012 Model S 85)   MATT PISCIONE Yes. with a caveat. As someone who works as a technician for an automotive manufacturer with an EV named after something that you might find in trees, based on their battery degradation issues I would probably not. However, the mechanical components are very durable as they are shared with other vehicles. That being said, I would be much more inclined to purchase a different EV that does not have battery degradation issues.   JAMES LOVES as a Mercedes Benz master tech here in California I my self have replaced six -B- class "ELECTRIC MACHINES" due to internal coolant leaks. These repairs were done under warranty  thank goodness  as the ELECTRIC MACHINE is a very pricey item. This front wheel drive unit is the same as the rear power unit used in the Tesla model -S-. Another thing one might consider is the battery warranty is 8 years 100k(miles) how ever a high voltage battery inspection of degradation must be performed annually and recorded.(Tesla battery Tesla drive train) if not performed or skipped the warranty is lost. This has kept me from My own purchase of a used -B- class as they are truly a blast to drive and have all the comforts of a Benz.   DAFYDD Although all the electric gubbins would in all likelihood have plenty of life left in them. One has to consider, the rest of the vehicle has also done all those miles too. As have all the interior fittings.   I’d be more willing to buy such a vehicle if I lived in Norway, Sweden, Finland or the like, where they routinely under-seal a vehicle for winter and clean it off and inspect the underside in spring. I’d be more willing to buy one, if the vehicle had be kept hot dry climate. Where salting roads was unheard of.   CHARLIE MILNER I'm currently looking at a second had Tesla. I'm looking at up to 90,000 miles. One thing that would concern me is the suspension wear. I had an old MK4 golf that after 120k miles the tracking was adjusted as much as possible and it was only just about ok. Indicating suspension components needed to be changed. If there is evidence the tracking is ok and it's been well looked after I'd consider higher milage. The motor and battery (especially with Tesla) is not a concern to me.   GARETH FROM THE CHARGEUP CAMPAIGN Although it does not meet your definition of high mileage my 2014 Leaf has been a bit of a mixed bag. Technically within the warranty period but with 96k on the clock it was outside the warranty range by about 36k. It has been pretty much reliable but I have found that I am paying for the maintenance for other people’s miles (droplink bars, track rod ends, tyres, 12 battery etc) and the charger died since as an ex taxi it had done over 4,600 rapid charges. I fixed this myself at a cost of £500 though Nissan wanted a mere £24k! My hope is that now all that work is done it will just work for quite some time.   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. We’re looking at an increase in charging rate of upwards of some 20 percent. Keep in mind, this is prior to the mass implementation of Tesla’s sought-after V3 (250 kW) Superchargers coming online and expanding incrementally." Says Steven Loveday for InsideEVs today: According to Tesla, as reported by Teslarati, the V2 Supercharging software upgrade will push the company’s current Supercharger rate from 120 kW to 145 kW. Tesla is now working on a global level to push its current systems to accept this update.   Recent images shared on Reddit show that updated Model 3 vehicles see a 147 kW charge (some 600 miles per hour) on today’s technology. This means that the cars can charge at that rate prior to the implementation of V3 Superchargers."   https://insideevs.com/tesla-unlocks-v2-supercharger-145-kw-rate/   FORD F-150 EV SPIED TRYING TO HIDE IT'S ELECTRIC "New spy shots provide a fresh look at the development of the Ford F-150 EV. At first glance, you might suspect this is just a normal F-150, but these shots reveal some of the EV's special details." According to Chris Heck or Motor1.com: "At the back, the Blue Oval's engineers want to fool you by mounting an exhaust on the passenger side. However, these photos reveal it's actually just a pipe without a connection to anything, in addition to the picture catching the truck's independent rear suspension layout.   Our spies also note that the F-150 EV rides slightly higher than the standard model to fit the batteries underneath the cab. The extra height doesn't look too substantial over the existing pickup, though. Specs for the electric F-150 aren't yet available. However, the test mules in these spy photos are reportedly very early prototypes for developing the necessary technology and don't reflect what Ford intends to sell to consumers when this vehicle finally comes to market. "   https://www.motor1.com/news/315311/ford-f-150-ev-spy-shots/   TESLA MODEL 3 DRIVERS REACH OVER 1 BILLION ELECTRIC MILES IN RECORD TIME "After just over a year since starting deliveries, Tesla Model 3 drivers have already reached over 1 billion electric miles in record time." Writes Fred Lambert for Electrek today: "We were able to track the progress through the Tesla road trip page and Tesla confirmed that its global fleet reached over 5 billion electric miles driven in July 2017. Tesla removed the counter from the Tesla road trip page and we haven’t been able to track the fleet mileage since, but a source familiar with the data point confirmed to Electrek that the fleet surpassed 9 billion total miles at the end of last year."   @Tesla Over 1 billion miles have been driven with Model 3 – thank you to all the amazing Tesla owners who got us here! http://tesla.com/3 4:40 PM - Mar 23, 2019   https://electrek.co/2019/03/25/tesla-model-3-drivers-1-billion-miles/   TESLA INCREASES MODEL Y PRICES BY $1,000, PLUS 3% INCREASE ON INVENTORY CARS Tesla Model Y Design Studio lists three versions of the Model Y and prices all of them were increased by $1,000 (compared to initial pricing revealed at the unveiling) to stay in line with the rest of the lineup.   The new prices in the U.S. are:   Performance – $61,000 (Fall 2020) Long Range AWD – $52,000 (Fall 2020) Long Range RWD – $48,000 (Fall 2020) At the current stage, we don’t know yet whether the Standard battery version (not yet listed in the shop) will be increased by $1,000 from $39,000 to $40,000 too.   It’s expected that previously placed orders for the Model Y (before the price bump) will be honored. Anyways, with at least 1.5 years to first deliveries, prices will most likely change a few more times.   https://insideevs.com/tesla-increase-model-y-price/   FIRST UK ORDER FOR THE ELECTRIC PEUGEOT E-208 PLACED ON THE SAME DAY AS ITS PUBLIC DEBUT Car buyers usually wait until they can drive a new model before signing on the dotted line but one PEUGEOT customer couldn’t even wait to see the all-new e-208 before placing a deposit.   On the same day the all-new PEUGEOT e-208 made its public world debut at the Geneva Motor Show, Neal Street paid a deposit at Truscott’s PEUGEOT Barnstable to secure one of the very first vehicles to arrive in the UK. He wanted to be at the front of the queue and placed his order before official order books opened. Street, a self-confessed car enthusiast, wasn’t put off by the fact PEUGEOT is yet to confirm UK pricing. As part of PEUGEOT’s ambition to provide an electrified version of every model in its range by 2023, the 100% electric all-new e-208 is powered by a 100kW motor and features a 50kWh battery, delivering a zero-emission range of up to 211 miles (WLTP) from a full charge.   BMW X1 XDRIVE25LE DEBUTS IN CHINA WITH 68 MILES OF ELECTRIC RANGE "After launching a plug-in hybrid version of the X1 in China back in September 2016, BMW is now introducing a revised variant of the vehicle which carries the X1 xDrive25Le name. Oddly enough, the Bavarian company is not ready to release official images of the PHEV and says it will show the car at the upcoming Auto Shanghai 2019 next month." Reports Anthony Carr for Motor1.com US today: "The PHEV X1 hides a new package of lithium-ion high-voltage batteries with increased capacity and a nickel, cobalt, and manganese ratio of 8:1:1, which means the use of nickel is expanded seriously. This increases the density and also leads to smaller usage of rare earth material like the cobalt. It is based on the LWB model and features a smart battery technology which allows for a range of 68 miles (110 kilometers) on purely electric energy, but bear in mind this is measured by the overly optimistic NEDC cycle. The J-Pace is thought to be just over two years from launch and will arrive at around the same time as the fifth-generation Range Rover."   https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/jaguar-j-pace-arrive-2021-flagship-suv   DACIA DUSTER EV MULE SPIED HINTING AT BRAND'S ELECTRIC FUTURE And finally something affordable spotted by Motor1.co. UK spy shots: This is an all-electric mule from Renault’s affordable brand, Dacia, and it is wearing the body of a first-gen Duster SUV. Renault is one of the most experienced mainstream manufacturers in the industry when it comes to electrification and it shouldn’t come as a surprise that its sister brand from Romania will benefit from the knowledge. Our spy photographers tell us these shots come from a frozen lake close to the Arctic Circle, where Renault Sport is actually working on a new contender for the Andros Trophy ice series. The competition is set to receive an all-electric class as a top tier in 2020 and, apparently, this car will soon morph into Dacia’s race car for the series."   https://www.motor1.com/news/315180/dacia-duster-ev-mule-spied/   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week.
