However, that shortened name is often misspelled. It should be spelled Paddy. Not Patty. Patty is a girls name. Paddy is short for the Irish name Padraig. I learned from The Daily Difference, the newsletter of the Carbon Almanac that the Episocopal Church used their environmental voice with their wallet. In 2015, the Episcopal Church made a commitment to divest fossil fuel investments from its holdings of around $500 million. And they honored that commitment just before the end of 2024. We all have the power of our voice, our wallet and our time to support climate initiatives. We are all in a weird position these days. There's a billionaire stripping government services from people who need them, just so he can get a huge tax cut. No matter where you stand on that situation, I don't think there's a single person in America who think that billionaires and corporations need a tax cut. Let me know if I'm wrong. Sadly, we may not have the power to stop corporate entitlements. But we do have the power of our wallets. We can support businesses and organizations who are doing good things to protect the environment and protect individuals like you and me. Take a moment and think about where your money is going. I'm gonna share with you some cool things I found for County Wicklow in Ireland. We're driving through Wicklow for my Celtic Invasion of Wexford. I heard so many good things about Wicklow that I plan to stop there. Now time for your Sustainability tip for the day. Get on the Meatless Monday bandwagon A few years back, my wife decided we would add a meatless day to our meal schedule for the week. It took me a while to get used to it. But I gotta say I feel so much better because of it. Now I've come to realize I really don't need meat in my diet. Not that I don't eat it. But I don't feel the need to spend the money to do so. We went to the grocery store last week and the price of a steak was insane, like double what it used to be. Giving up meat can be difficult, but it's one of the most impactful things that anyone can do to lower their personal carbon footprint and send a bigger message about sustainability in our agricultural system. Now I eat mostly veggies. Garbanzos are a new favorite. We have a super simple recipe that makes yummy garbanzos to go on rice and veggies. I also make my hummus. I even found this great recipe for lentil pancakes. They're sooo good. There are so many great vegetarian and vegan recipes I found on YouTube. I'm eating them up. And yet, we still eat chicken and salmon and steak and carnitas depending on our mood. But it feels good to not feel stuffed full of meat. Oh.  Some good news. It's incredible that two weeks later I'm up and walking around. Yeah. I got a gruesome scar, but the medical professions are just amazing. The big challenge, of course, is that I haven't had time to work on podcasts or music or much of anything else. I'm largely exercising and taking care of my family. All while trying to ignore the pain. Sleeping is one of the worst parts of it all. But I'm hoping to get some new medicine that might make me at least a little bit more comfortable. So that said, I realized the Brobdingnagian Bards' Kickstarter is now delayed a couple months. Andrew and I planned to get together in person to record in February. I don't think it's gonna happen. Tho there's still a small possibility. In the meantime, we are planning to get together in April to record when I head to Texas for Sherwood Forest Faire. But that also didn't stop me from launching Another Kickstarter. This one is for the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. It funds a CD and Album Pin and other merch to promote the podcast with a really cool design that reads “Celtic Forever”. I'll tell you more about that in a little bit. But before we goton with the show, I have a really important way for you to fight climate change. It all begins with your local government. The current administration is dismantling all the good climate progress we had these past few years. But that just reminds me that since the beginning of our country, there's been a big discussion about States Rights vs Federal Rights. States Rights was a big issue when our nation started. I'm learning more about that as I help my daughter with American History. While I think some issues like Climate Change progress should be national, that's not the way America will work for the next four years. We need to take it local. I heard about a recent analysis, state and local programs, such as improved building efficiency standards and ambitious renewable energy adoption targets. They have the potential to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by up to 62%. You can join a local group. Or you can talk to your city legislators or county or state legislators. If enough of us reach out locally, we can make change happen in our physical communities. Which will blossom up to our State and hopefully eventually our National. Start small. Start local. That idea was inspired while reading One5C, a website that shares climate news and actions. Bring your water bottle (or reusable mug) everywhere One of the biggest challenges in terms of both climate change and overconsumption is the world's dependence on single-use plastic. It's a dilemma in terms of fossil fuel use, pollution, ecosystem destruction, human health, and more. According to the U.N., 1 million plastic bottles are purchased every single minute across the world, and half of all plastic produced is used just once and then thrown away. The easiest thing we can do right this moment is make sure to grab your water bottle or coffee cup whenever you leave the house. That album featured our pick of the Top 10 Renaissance festival songs, plus some of our found favorites and songs we've written. Another Faire to Remember shares a few new Ren Faire favorite songs. We also share more original songs. There are drinking songs, and anti-drinking songs. There are sing and shout alongs. There's a song inspired by Dungeons & Dragons. Everyone discovers Star Ranch in their own unique way. For Rhum, that discovery came while he was working the Renaissance Festival circuit at Sherwood Forest Faire just down the road and needed a place to stay for a few weeks. He ended up loving the Ranch so much, that he is now a full-time resident and just recently joined the Star Ranch Council, helping to interview potential new members and planning activities for members and visitors alike!

My wife had been in hospital 100 miles away, for two months, and the chorus came to my head when I was feeling sorry for myself. Simultaneously, the Government had decided to ban us clamming in Lamlash Bay. I'd sustainably hand picked scallops there for 34 years. The trawler/dredgers were destroying the habitat, and they wanted to ban them. But they done us in as well… a Federal hammer to crack a wee nut!!!! So, the song is called “Myra's lament for Lamlash Bay”…Lamlash is at the Isle of Arran. Tommy Makem inspired my plagiarism with “The Boys from Killybegs.” Killybegs is a fishing port in Donegal, Ireland..Dun Na Gael…. The Fortress of the Stranger. PLOT SYNOPSIS & DISCUSSION (Ripped straight from Wikipedia) MIKEY The Eleventh Doctor, Amy and Rory follow a distress call with the identification of the Time Lord the Corsair to an asteroid outside the universe. After landing in a junkyard, the TARDIS shuts down and its matrix disappears. The asteroid, called House, removes the matrix, and places it in the body of a woman called Idris.  MARC The Doctor discovers the Corsair and hundreds of other Time Lords on the asteroid were murdered by House and that two inhabitants of the asteroid, Uncle and Auntie, are constructed from the body parts of Time Lords. Upon learning that the Doctor is the last Time Lord and that no more will ever arrive, House transfers its consciousness into the TARDIS to escape from the rift. Amy and Rory are trapped inside as the House-controlled TARDIS dematerializes. Uncle and Auntie are allowed to die. MIKEY The Doctor learns that Idris contains the personality of the TARDIS's matrix and that they can talk to each other for the first time. With minutes before her body fails, Idris reveals that House had stranded many TARDISes before, and that its pocket universe is hours away from collapsing. The Doctor and Idris work together to construct a makeshift TARDIS from scraps, and then pursue House.  MARC Aboard the Doctor's TARDIS, House threatens to kill Amy and Rory. He plays with their senses as they try to flee through the corridors, and then sends an Ood called Nephew after them. Idris makes a psychic connection with Rory to give him directions to a secondary control room, where he and Amy are able to lower the TARDIS shields. This allows the Doctor to land the makeshift TARDIS in the secondary control room, which atomises Nephew.  MIKEY House deletes the secondary control room as he prepares to break through the rift to the main universe, which the Doctor anticipates. The TARDIS's safety protocols transfer them to the main control room, where the dying Idris releases the TARDIS's matrix back to the TARDIS, destroying House.  MARC A remnant of the TARDIS's matrix, in Idris' body, states that she will not be able to speak to the Doctor again but will be there for him. It's by Seth Godin, a brilliant marketer and thought leader. He constantly challenges his listeners to “make things better by making better things.” That resonates with me. One of my early Irish & Celtic Music Podcast slogans was “changing the way you hear Celtic music.” That was about improving the culture, embracing change, recognizing that our past is important but so is our future. That's what podcasting is all about. Or it can be. This week, Seth didn't something intriguing. He asked ChatGPT to evaluate the functions, the future, and the problems of artificial intelligence like ChatGPT. He recorded the responses… Well, sort of. It turned out the entire recording, except the intro, was an AI voice manipulator that sounded almost exactly like Seth Godin. There was one moment in the recording that I thought, this is kind of dry sounding. I chalked it up to ChatGPT. Little did I know, it wasn't Seth speaking. My mom just shared an AI scam that's happening. I have an idea on how to fix. Thank you Harry Potter! The scam is that an AI simulator will call you on the phone and have the same voice as someone you know. They say that they are in financial trouble. They ask for your help. What do you do? At some point, the simulator will be good enough to fool you. Just like Seth Godin's podcast fooled me. We're already there. But I immediately came up with a defense. It's from the final books of Harry Potter. I'll let ChatGPT explain: “In the final books of the Harry Potter series, Remus Lupin asked Harry Potter a question to prove that he was not an imposter. The question was: "What is the secret of the Marauder's Map?" This was a question that only the true creators of the map - Lupin, James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew - would know the answer to. Harry correctly answered that the map was activated by tapping it with one's wand and saying "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good," and that it could be closed by tapping it again and saying "Mischief managed." This answer convinced Lupin that Harry was indeed who he claimed to be.” Yeah. I was talking about it with my mom and realized this is the way we need to protect ourselves from THIS AI scam. We ask a question that only the person we're talking with would know the answer to. Seems simple. But it's a good lesson to pass on. So please please share this idea. Because at some point, you won't be able to tell who's real and who's not. Mind you, that's not to scare you. As I said at the beginning, change is inevitable. We need to work with this bizarre new paradigm. As Seth Godin's podcast points out, it can be beneficial or it can be hurtful. We have the power to choose and to make change. SPECIAL GUEST STAR: a cascade of funny incidents where it had to be pointed out there's no THE in Blaggards. The night before we'd played at Molly's Pub in Kingwood, and didn't get home until 2:30 AM. We then had to leave for Sherwood at 8:30 AM, each of us getting maybe two hours of sleep in the meantime. The final segment was recorded on the way home with a brilliant night sky featuring the moon and Jupiter that shows up remarkably well on the video. Someone emailed me last week. They responded “my concern about air and water (not climate change) are more health related than political.” I know I didn't make myself clear. My fight against climate change is not political either. I don't care about your politics. Sure 95% of all Climate scientists say human-made climate change is real. And so yes, I trust the science. If you wanna call that political, that's up to you. But I've been passively supporting the environment long before the climate change discussion began, back when I was a member of the Surfrider Foundation in college, when I was actually studying to be a marine biologist. But I'm not talking about climate change for the science I can't see, but rather for the empirical evidence that I can see. And you can see. We both see and feel the repercussions of pollution. I remember picking up a Budweiser beer can that someone left on the bank of a lake in Alabama. That's something you can see. Or have you seen the oil film left on the water of a lake? My friend pointed out the public health effects on asthma. In Texas, they frequently have air quality warnings. I didn't need the warnings. Every time one of those days came about, I used my inhaler BEFORE I heard the warning. For those of us who live with asthma. That is something to fight against. And it will get worse. Taking care of the planet is an everyone issue. Remember that the human population on earth grows exponentially. It might not affect you… right now. But it will one day. Because more people means more pollution. Whether that's air pollution, water pollution, whatever. You, your kids and other people will feel the effects. We are a community. So we should take care of one another. So even if you don't believe scientists who warn about human-made Climate Change. There is no harm done in supporting the Climate Change movement. Even small changes can make a big difference over time. Because if each of us makes a small change, that means BIG change. Heck, I think most indie musicians do. It saves me from having to think about what song to play next. Some musicians are even great asking for a tip to go with the song request. I'm not so great at that. But I still love getting and fulfilling the requests. The one problem I have is that I have 24 solo albums. I do not know the lyrics for all of the songs on those CDs. Did you ever see Middleman? I loved that TV show. They had this “stump the band” game. Someone would ask the musician if he could play a song. Andrew does that sometimes. He's a whiz when it comes to playing melodies on the recorder. I, on the other hand, am not. I can barely remember many of the songs I've recorded. And that's sort of how the story of “Why Do You Torture Me?” got started. For about two years, I had a monthly residency in Marietta, Georgia at Johnnie MacCracken's Irish Pub. I was living in Birmingham at the time. I drove there once a month to play for a small group of fans. Almost every month, Chris would request the song “Christmastime in Texas”. This is a song I wrote early on in the Brobdingnagian Bards career. Andrew helped me refine it. It's a satirical song about how they celebrate Christmas in Texas. Chris loves that song. I loved it when I wrote. But I'll be honest. Sometimes I write a song. I love it. And a while later, I realize it's not as good as I thought it was or I hoped it was. That was certainly the case with “Christmastime in Texas”. It was after midnight one evening. Chris requested the song. On a whim, I replied with that first line of the chorus: “Why do you toruture me? Why do you request a song that I can't sing.” Happily, my digital recorder was running while I improvised a new song. In fact, it wasn't very different from the one you can hear on the latest CD, Selcouth. I definitely tightened up the verses. But it wasn't too different. The song captures the quirky things about writing and recording songs. Like the fact that I have written song lyrics in front of me while recording. I play the song over and over again, until I get it right. But I think my favorite verse is the last one. Because it visually captures that moment when you're singing a song and you forget the lyrics. It used to be a running joke with me. Because I forgot the lyrics so often during shows. Fortunately, I realized if I actually had a set list, I'd spend more time focusing on the song I'm performing and less on what the next song would be. He played music with The Chieftains for 20 years. I asked him to submit music to the podcast. I asked Jon if he might be able to share a story or two about playing music with Paddy. I first connected with Jeff a number of years back when he too was living in New Orleans. We both had an early introduction to Celtic music through an album of Irish drinking songs. But it wasn't until Atlanta that I finally met him. And I was really surprised to see him in my audience. At that time, I was trying to find artists to collaborate with on my album Selcouth. One song stood out. That was “Kilty Pleasure”. I'll talk more about it in a moment. But I emailed him the next day and asked if The Muckers might be interested in collaborating. And I'm so happy they agreed. There aren't many Celtic bands in Atlanta that are making a splash. But The Muckers, they are definitely the go to band. They sound amazing. I am extremely concerned about the impact we are making on our environment. Not as much for my sake, but for kids and their kids. What kind of world do I want to leave behind? We are causing major damage to our planet and atmosphere. It will affect everyone some day. But the good news is that we can make a difference. We can make positive change. Not just as individuals but as a community. The Carbon Almanac at its base is a book. It's a book about how we can affect change on our planet. But it's also a book designed to start discussing how we can make change together. I've played Celtic music for over twenty years. I remember how Riverdance was all the rage when I started playing Celtic music, I never quite understood it. I am a singer. I've fallen in love with the traditional tunes. But I'll be honest, I don't know much about Irish dance. My daughter Inara loves to dance. We started her on ballet a year before the pandemic started. She quickly found it slow and boring. She has a lot of energy. So a year ago, we signed her up with Atlanta Irish Dance by Burke Connolly. She connected with it instantly. I wanted to find out more about Irish dance. So I contacted Emma Burke, one of the co-founders of the school. Emma is a certified Irish dance teacher and internationally certified Irish dance adjudicator, which allows her to judge Irish dance competitions world wide. During her Irish dancing career, Emma competed all over the world, winning titles throughout. Atlanta Irish Dance is the Premiere Irish Dance Academy in Georgia and one of the top Irish Dance Companies in the United States. They have an exciting performance based program run through their 501c3, in which they produce lively crowd-pleasing performances for crowds across Atlanta.  Their dancers and teams are ranked 1st in the Region, 2nd in North America, and among the top 10 in the World. I attended a Father & Me Valentine's Day class with Inara. It was fantastic. Exhausting, but fantastic. 52:21 - STORY OF KILTY PLEASURE I love my kilt. I don't wear it as much as I used to when I wrote my song “Kilted For Her Pleasure”. It's become a bit of a guilty pleasure. It's largely something I wear when I'm going to a show or an event. I love it for many different reasons. Obviously, I love it becomes of Scottish heritage. Gunn is one of the clans of Scotland. That old Scotland map shows the Gunn land just Northwest of Inverness. But when I wrote the song, I realized there are other reasons. You see, the album is called Selcouth. That means, “when everything is strange and different yet you find it marvelous anyway.” That word sort of encapsulates my life. Yes, there was a time in high school when I just wanted to fit in. But when I got to college, I realized that I would never fit. I was just different. It wasn't good or bad. It was just different. And we are all a little different. We are all unique. That is a great thing. America is a cultural melting pot. It's not just white Americans. People from around the globe have immigrated to our country, just like my family did 150 years ago. I love traditional Irish music. But 15 years ago, a trad musician sat me down to tell me I wasn't playing Celtic music. I didn't fit the mold. He was right. But that didn't make my music any less Celtic. I believe in inclusion. Not exclusion. I'll be honest. The racism that our last president ignited and promoted was a big reason for this song. I was afraid that my people, the Scots and Irish of the South, were a part of that bigotry. So I wanted a song that waived a banner of what it truly is to be Scots-Irish in America. Our groups were once oppressed by the majority. Now we are a big part of America. And I believe it is time to realize we don't have to oppress other minority groups to stand out. We can all be strong and proud of our unique heritages and embrace all of our differences. That's what the kilt says to me. It's a sign that I am a true American, and I am Celtic forever. We chat with Rob, the brewmaster at The Lost Druid Brewery. He's gonna share with you how he names his beers. I love how he names them and the pop culture references that he adds to many.. Including the little known secret behind the name Doctor Strange. 30:27 - “Famine” by Doolin' from Doolin' 33:21 - STORY OF WHEREVER I MAY ROAM Originally, I was gonna talk about the famous Scottish song, “Loch Lomond”. It seems I already talked about “Loch Lomond” in show #199. So instead… I fly to Texas in April to perform at Sherwood Forest Faire. My daughters are making the journey as well. It got me thinking about when I first started flying. I don't remember. I was talking to my dad about it. He reminded me that during summers when we lived in Maryland, he would drive us to visit his family in East Texas. His parents would then drive us halfway to meet my mom's parents. We'd stay in San Antonio for a while. Then we would fly home. It was me and my brother. On an airplane together. Fast forward to 1985, the two of us flew to Italy to visit my mom. In 1989, I flew all by myself for the first time to visit my mom in Italy. Talking to my dad, I realized my love of traveling began in part because of those trips. Especially on the airplane. Visiting Europe! It made a HUGE impact on my life. I flew to Hawaii to visit my dad and step mom during college. The next vacation, I flew back to Italy. We drove up to Germany, France, and even saw the Floriade in The Netherlands. I love traveling. So it was fitting when I met my future wife in 2009, that she too had a love of traveling. We love to roam. However, it wasn't until 2013 or 2014 that I finally wrote my first good love song for my wife. I had written others. But they never went anywhere. The song was called “Wherever I May Roam”. I remember it was fairly easy to write too. The music I based on how I had been playing “Gypsy Rover”. It had a very pleasant rhythm that I tightened up. One of my big goals was to write a song that was a call and response. That is to say, something that I could sing and audience members could respond to the lyric I sang. But it's the story that made it a love song. It was created in 3 parts. The first was my life before I met Gwen. My life was a bit rough before her. I was in a band. But I did not feel like I was growing as a musician or as a person. I was also wanting to find love. I had to make a change. So I broke up the band. I moved from Austin to New Orleans. I tried to start over. I learned in high school that every new year, I could sort of change my persona to be more like someone I wanted to be. Rather than who I was. But it required a radical shift. Ultimately, I learned that I couldn't change who I actually was. But I did learn that the radical shift could do wonders for your life. The break up of the Brobdingnagian Bards was sad for many of our fans. But the move to New Orleans… it kickstarted my new life. I started writing new music. I recorded a ton of new albums. It launched Celtic Invasion Vacations. It also got me out on tour. At a little house concert in Reston, Virginia, I met my wife. That's what the second verse is all about. The final verse… Sometimes when you're a musician in a band, you start playing music together, just music. A groove catches on. Groove seems like the wrong word. Because it's not about rhythm, it's about playing in sync, together. It just matches. It works. As a budding singer and songwriter, I wanted something that was more than just a groove. I wanted a song. A beautiful song… that leads to other songs. That's what “Wherever I May Roam” did. I wrote my first love song for my wife. It told our story. But it also blossomed into children and more adventures than I could have possibly hoped for. And likewise, this song also was the true start of my rhythm and folk musical style on the autoharp. Amelia Hogan is one of my new favorite Celtic musicians on the podcast. The Brobdingnagian Bards Podcast came out later than usual. Andrew and I talked about "Songs That Get Stuck in Your Head". We talk getting comfortable on stage and chipmunk style Bog Off. Celtfather Music & Travel had a bonus episode where I talked about sound reinforcement at busking gigs. And Patreon was extra busy this month. In addition the free MP3s, I talked about a big happy success in July. I chatted about MP3s, CDs and streaming music, and I shared an unreleased podcast from Sherwood Forest Faire. 14:41 - VIDEOS At the beginning of the month I had one of those epic parenting successes. I was practicing music more with my kids. So my wife recorded a video of Kenzie singing "I'll Tell My Ma" while Inara danced and I played autoharp. It was amazing. One of those things I dreamed of, but never imagined would happen. The big news is the return of Coffee with The Celtfather. Season 9 starts on Thursday, August 5. I'm debating running a Kickstarter campaign to pay for Restream.io so that I can broadcast over multiple platforms. I feel like raising $120 is easy enough. AND since I don't earn much by way of tips, it would better fund the show, and show its profitability outside of Patreon. I haven't made a commitment yet, but it I'm seriously considering it. The next Celtfather Live is on Thursday, August 19 at 8 pm ET. 16:38 - IN THE STUDIO "By Amazing Grace", was released as a single on July 29. "Peggy Gordon" was released as a single on July 2. "Bright Side of Everything" is the next single. It's scheduled to come out on August 26. That one features the background music and vocals of Celtic rock band Screeched Inn, out of Canada. I have plenty of songs completed to finish up Selcouth. But there's one more I want to add. It's the "Reavers Drinking Song". I haven't recorded it at all, as of present. That's at the top of my recording schedule when the girls start back for school in August. I did record three songs for Another Faire to Remember. This is an EP that the Brobdingnagian Bards hope to release for Dragon Con. I still need to record at least one more song to make it happen. 18:58 - MERCH Virtual Public House is still on sale. I'm gonna pull it at the end of August. The As Long As I'm Flyin' vinyl album will no longer be available past September. So if you want either of those, you should order soon. Incidentally, sales for Virtual Public House have not been great. So I'm happy to say there will not be further editions released like this. I say happy because years ago, the Brobdingnagian Bards released Christmas in Brobdingnag, Vol. 1, with the intent that there would be future volumes. And there never were. I thought about naming Virtual Public House in a similar fashion. Now I don't have to. Instead of releasing Virtual Public House like I have, I'm just gonna continue to release the MP3s via Patreon. Merch sales at gigs this month were interesting. At Jordan Con, I didn't sell nearly as well as I hoped. But I did upgrade my merch table with a greater emphasis on my Celtic Heartstring necklaces. I love the look. Then I did a couple farmer's market gigs. That got me thinking about busking for Gen Con. So I updated my busking setup. It also sent me on a YouTube busking research binge. I watched a LOT of videos on busking. But few focus on merch. That is something I still need to work on. But I feel like my efforts will pay off... just not yet. Is louder, better? This is Celtfather Music & Travel show #282.   I booked a farmer's market gig. The booker told me I would need to play completely unplugged. Past musicians played too loudly. They disrupted the sales of the vendors. Those musicians won't be coming back. And now I might not get to play amplified.   Some people think that louder is better. Louder does stand out more. The more noise you make, the more people take notice. But it does not necessarily mean it's better.   For many years, the Elven Hill stage at Sherwood Forest Faire had a band that blasted their music. The sound traveled all the way down the hill. It disrupted the atmosphere of the Renaissance festival. But the musicians got noticed. They were a favorite for their Led Zeppelin and Last of the Mohican cover songs. It was a great for them. They grew their fan base.   Down the hill, the folk musicians suffered. They were drowned out by the music. We're talking 20 year veterans with amazing vocals and song arrangements. Their shows were interrupted. They grew slower. They had to adjust. Now most of the musicians at the faire amplify their music to get noticed.   Eventually, the over amplification was replaced with sound reinforcement at most stages. The loud band no longer exists. All of those acoustic musicians are still performing.   Seth Godin released a podcast back in June 2021 called "How Many Edges?" or "Fueling the Engines of Division". The podcast talks about social media companies and how they are pushing people to the edges. He suggests that maybe it is time for them to change their algorithms to stop pushing the extremes.   Social media companies used their algorithm to turn us into raving fans. They took us deeper and deeper into our fandoms and things we that evoked an emotional response. If it was just the things we loved, that'd be great. But many of the things we that moved us also infuriated us. That's why social media now makes us sad and angry. It brings very little joy.   But just imagine if those companies changed their algorithms. What if they stopped pushing us to the extremes. What if they stopped feeding the spread of disinformation or negative information. They have the power to make our feeds something we love again.   Yes. People would stay on social media less. But would that really matter? They already have monopolies. They make billions of dollars a year. They don't NEED more people on their platform all the time. And they would still make billions. That's how big they are.   The extremes are loud. For a short time, people will take notice. But it's the small folk musicians at the faire who are still making a living with their music. They aren't loud and obnoxious. They aren't drowning out other musicians. They are just as good or better than the bands blowing out their ears. But they are getting rehired for gigs because they aren't disrupting the culture.   That's what life is all about. It's about our culture. It's about things we love. Not things we loathe. We all want to be happy. The best way to do that is to be a bit more respectful of those around us, to not push people to extremes, even if those extremes might be good for us as individuals. Is it good for those around us?   We are all in this together. We can be happy without making others miserable. We can be respectful and get noticed. We can lift our neighbors up, even if it doesn't serve our own self interests. Because it's good for the community. It's good for the culture. Being masculine and strong are fine. But when masculinity is used as a weapon to belittle and control women or anyone, that's when it's a problem. Just like in the Firefly episode, “Heart of Gold,” where I got inspiration for this song. “By Amazing Grace” turns the tables. It's about a man who meets a woman. He woos her. They fall in love. Then his true colors are revealed. He's actually a monster bent on controlling people. When you meet people like that, there are two things you can do. You can allow them to control you or you stand up to them, fight back, teach them that there is a better place than toxic masculinity, one where people are equal.
