It's easy to get swept away with the mundane of existing. You get up, brush your teeth, eat breakfast, go to work, eat lunch, come home, brush your teeth, go to sleep... Sound familiar? How can any of it mean anything? There is nothing special about this. After all, this is what it means to be an adult, right? Rabbi Alex Kress works day in and day out to operate differently than the notion above. The idea that life is grey is an unrelatable idea as Rabbi Kress takes the principals of radical amazement by Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel and applies to literally EVERY moment of his life. Chaz Volk, host of Bad Jew, learns from Rabbi Kress how to make every second radically amazing! 00:00 Introduction 04:53 Fostering gratitude and radical amazement 08:31 Having a structured life can be detrimental 10:57 Preconceived knowledge 15:38 Be grateful for what you have 16:28 God-centered transformation 19:37 Don't take things for granted 24:21 Seeking God 26:42 Transforming chores 31:19 Reflection, contemplation, and ethical change 32:47 Practical advice About Rabbi Alex Kress: Rabbi Alex is a born and raised Philadelphian. In 2012, he graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor of Arts in Jewish Studies and immediately flew to Israel to begin his studies at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Rabbi Alex loves good coffee, shabbos ball, and reading an actual, physical newspaper.  Rabbi Alex's life was changed when his parents sent him to Camp Harlam in 2002. It was the first domino in a series that led him to the rabbinate. He became involved in NFTY PAR, traveled with NFTY in Israel and NFTY EIE, and then studied abroad at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. That semester in the spring of 2010 definitively set Rabbi Alex's course for the rabbinate.  Connect with Rabbi Alex Kress: www.AlexKress.com Connect with Bad Jew: BadJew.co https://linktr.ee/badjew BadJewPod@gmail.com Ig @BadJewPod TikTok @BadJewPod

Misinformation is the spread of false information without ill intent, often stemming from misunderstandings or mistakes. On the other hand, disinformation is a more insidious tactic involving the intentional fabrication and propagation of false information, aimed at deceiving the public. Hillary emphasizes that recognizing these differences is vital in order to effectively identify and combat these issues. She also warns about the role of external national entities that try to amplify societal divisions by manipulating online conversations to serve their own geopolitical aims.Understanding Disinformation and Misinformation: "Disinformation is is a deliberate attempt to falsify information, whereas misinformation is a little different." — Hillary CooverThe Challenges of Policing Social Media ContentThe episode dives into the complexities of managing content on social media platforms, where Tracy Bannon and Hillary discuss the delicate balance required to combat harmful content without infringing on freedom of speech or accidentally suppressing valuable discourse. As part of this discussion, they mention their intention to revisit and discuss the book "Ministry of the Future," which explores related themes. Suggesting that this novel offers insights that could prove valuable in understanding the intricate challenges of regulating social media. There is a shared concern about the potential for an overly robust censorship approach to hinder the dissemination of truth as much as it limits the spread of falsehoods. The Erosion of Face-to-Face Political DialogueThe conversation transitions to the broader societal implications of digital dependency. Specifically addressing how the diminishment of community engagement has led individuals to increasingly source news and discourse from digital platforms. This shift towards isolationistic tendencies, amplified by the creation of digital echo chambers, results in a decline of in-person political discussions. As a result, there is growing apprehension about the future of political discourse and community bonds, with Hillary and Tracy reflecting on the contemporary rarity of open, face-to-face political conversations that generations past traditionally engaged in.The Shadow of Foreign Influence and Election IntegrityChallenges in India's Multiparty Electoral SystemIn the course of the discussion, the complexity of India's...

Episode Notes: When You're Rejected by Family and Friends (Luke 4:14-30)Rejection, especially from family and friends, is a profound and challenging experience. This episode explores the biblical account in Luke 4:14-30, where Jesus faces rejection in his hometown. The rejection stems from the community's preconceived ideas about Him, emphasizing the broader lesson about the impact of preconceived notions on acceptance and personal growth.Jesus returns to Galilee after his temptation, demonstrating the power of the Holy Spirit. His teachings gain popularity, leading Him to Nazareth, His hometown within the region of Galilee. The narrative unfolds in both Galilee and Nazareth.Jesus in Galilee:Jesus teaches in synagogues, emphasizing the simplicity of worship during that time. His teachings focus on spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being, addressing the whole person.News of His popularity spreads throughout the region, setting the stage for events in Nazareth.Jesus in Nazareth:Jesus reads a Messianic passage from Isaiah, declaring His identity as the Messiah. The audience's response is a mix of admiration and disbelief due to their preconceived notions.Jesus anticipates skepticism, leading to the famous proverb, "Physician, heal yourself!"He uses examples of Gentiles receiving miracles to illustrate the pattern of rejection in one's own community. The Fury of Rejection:The people in the synagogue reject Jesus vehemently, leading to anger and attempts to harm Him.The rejection intensifies as Jesus hints at His ministry extending beyond Israel. The narrative concludes with an attempt to throw Jesus off a cliff, but He miraculously passes through the crowd unharmed.Key Takeaways:Rejection often stems from preconceived ideas, hindering acceptance of new perspectives.People rejected Jesus based on their limited perception of Him as Joseph's son and a familiar teacher.Preconceived notions can be roadblocks to personal growth.Understanding and reflecting on our preconceived ideas is crucial for personal and spiritual development.Support the showBack my future Calvin Project on Kickstarter http://kck.st/47lp772My Amazon Author Pageamazon.com/author/jeremymccandlessJeremy McCandless is creating podcasts and devotional resources | PatreonHelp us continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com

David and Patricia Stallings married in August of 1988, and with the belief that they were about to embark on their part of the American Dream, the couple bought a small white farmhouse on Lake Wauwanoka in Hillsboro, MissouriTwenty-four-year-old Patricia gave birth to the couple's first child, Ryan Stallings, in April of 1989. Even though Ryan suffered from gastronomic distress since birth, the couple were overwhelmingly happy in their new roles as parents. But on July 9th, 1989, that would all change as Ryan became horribly ill with nonstop vomiting and labored breathing. Patricia drove full speed up Highway 21 toward St. Louis with her sick baby cradled in his car seat. In a panic, Patricia got lost and ended up at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital instead of going to St. Louis Children's Hospital, as she intended.Once there, Ryan was immediately ushered into the ICU, put on a ventilator, and had numerous tubes and IVs going into his tiny body. Patricia was overwhelmed when the doctors couldn't seem to diagnose what was wrong with him. They slammed her with a barrage of questions and then ran a complete blood and urine analysis. The staff would not allow her or David to be alone in the room with Ryan. Anytime David and Patricia were in Ryan's room, there had to be medical staff present.Three days later, Patricia was arrested on assault charges for poisoning Ryan.Join Jen and Cam as we talk about "Preconceived Notions: "Patricia Stallings"Written and researched by Lauretta AllenListener Discretion by Edward October from OctoberpodVHSExecutive Producer Nico Vitesse of The Inky Paw PrintSources:https://www.newspapers.com/image/139943203/?terms=Patricia%20Stallings&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/819970269/?terms=Patricia%20Stallings&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/207793816/?terms=Patricia%20Stallings&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/139942291/https://www.newspapers.com/image/139942651/?terms=Patricia%20Stallings&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/139958402/?terms=Patricia%20Stallings&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/141238228/?terms=Patricia%20Stallings&match=1 https://www.newspapers.com/image/141439318/https://www.newspapers.com/image/141439346/?terms=Patricia%20Stallings&match=1https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patricia_Stallingshttp://www.msbp.com/stlouis.htmhttps://www.law.northwestern.edu/legalclinic/wrongfulconvictions/exonerations/mo/patricia-stallings.htmlhttps://unsolved.com/gallery/patty-stallings/https://unsolvedmysteries.fandom.com/wiki/Ryan_Stallingshttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK559906/https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-65830799https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathleen_Folbigghttps://www.childrenshospital.org/programs/epilepsy-genetics-programThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3647242/advertisement

You are as old as you think you are. Studies have shown that we typically perceive ourselves to be from 7 years to 20% younger than our actual chronological age.  This gap is called our subjective age, but are we just living in denial or is there a benefit to this kind of thinking?  Preconceived notions that we each hold on aging may also be a predictor of our eventual, future reality. People who perceive themselves to be younger than they are typically lead healthier lifestyles, engage in more positive self-talk and self-care, and tend to be less depressed.

He would end up paying the ultimate consequence because of their preconceived notion and antisemitism.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Ilan_Halimi, https://www.adl.org/24days, https://www.ajc.org/news/remembering-ilan-halimi, https://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/05/world/europe/torture-and-death-of-jew-deepen-fears-in-france.html, https://www.fondationshoah.org/en/anti-semitism/24-days-true-story-ilan-halimi-affair-film-alexandre-arcady, https://www.france24.com/en/20140420-new-french-film-tackles-grisly-anti-semitic-murder-jewish-ilan-halimi-cinema
