About 1 in 54 children in our country were diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder last year, with boys 4 times more likely than girls to be diagnosed. But there is still so much we are learning about Autism -- and foremost, is that it can take many shapes and characteristics. In other words, it is a spectrum, not any one thing. Rudy Thoms' has spent his career in medical device sales, but the thing he's passionate about is helping families who are making their way along with a child who is on the autism spectrum. His son Landon was diagnosed in 2009, when he was just a toddler. Rudy is the founder of Autism Strong here in Charlotte, and is joining us along with Stephanie Neuman and Choate Constructions's Richard Conway to talk about their partnership and upcoming Build Strong event. Richard Conway describes himself as Entrepreneur, father, author, columnist & investor. He is the Founder and CEO of Pure SEO, New Zealand's most awarded search agency. They have been in the Deloitte fast 500 for 7 years in a row, so he knows how to grow a business. But as he says, "Success is not Revenue alone". In this podcast he shares his journey from moving from the UK to NZ with no contacts & no networks & starting a small company, to where he has got to today. Richard is also a published author, of the best selling book - "How to Get to the Top of Google Search" with Penguin Books & as a successful entrepreneur he happily shares his journey, his learnings & supports many others on their Entrepreneurial journey through talking at events, being an active member of EO & just generally always looking at how he can help people. Richard also shares his 3 top tips for Business Owners & Entrpreneurs. I met Richard whilst working at Tower Insurance (my final stint in a Corporate environment). It was whilst he was distracted, as Entrepreneurs often are, by running multiple businesses. He had this idea about an online insurance comparison site & I just happened to be the Manager of Marketing at Tower Insurance. I am so grateful for that meeting because Richard & I became friends & he introduced me to The Icehouse (where I worked as a coach & mentor for 7 years) & to EO New Zealand (Entrepreneurs' Organization) (where I found a new support family & made more great friends). Those things changed my life & led me to launching The Common & meeting Daniel & Francesca from EOS Worldwide, when they launched into NZ using my event centre. From there I became a professional EOS Implementer & that too has changed my life. Thank you Richard. From such a seemingly boring meeting about insurance to a lifetime friend that changed my life. And thanks for always openly sharing & helping people

Many working parents in the UK have resorted to virtual nanny services for their children in the past year. Richard Conway, the founder of one of the biggest virtual babysitting companies in the country, said that younger children always need to be entertained. However, working parents might find it hard to make time for their kids. His company offers a solution to this problem by letting parents connect with a virtual nanny. Conway's virtual nanny service was designed to help parents focus on work while someone watches over their children through a video call. The service is offered to parents whose children are at least two years old. Most sessions last for around 60 to 90 minutes. Conway said that many people did not buy into his idea of virtual nannies at first because they thought it would involve leaving children home alone. However, since Conway started Childcare.co.uk in 2009, over 50,000 parents have inquired about his company's service. Currently, his company has more than 4,000 nannies who handle children both in and out of the UK. According to one nanny from Childcare.co.uk, sessions are best carried out within an hour because children have short attention spans. She added that she makes the most out of the session by planning activities beforehand. Her sessions usually consist of stories, rhymes, games, and other activities. The service has received varying feedback from parents. A senior lecturer in London who tried it said it took a while for her child to get used to the sessions, but it became easier for her to leave her child alone with the nanny over time. Despite the usefulness of the service, however, one parenting book author believes that it might not be suitable for everyone. She said that on-screen interactions cannot replace being with people face to face and that meeting people only through a virtual set-up may have a lasting impact on children.

Little Shop of Horrors, based on the off-Broadway musical, in turn based off the 1960 Roger Corman dark comedy The Little Shop of Horrors... is probably my favourite ever screen musical. It contains within several elements that never fail to delight me:-Rick Moranis - a true gem of a man, on-and-off screen, who was a regular for all us 80s and 90s kids growing up-It's a musical - with music and lyrics by the award-winning team of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman-Practical effects - the puppet work is some of the greatest ever put to screen, with Frank Oz at the helm and a talented team of professional puppeteers (including Brian Henson), Audrey II feels real, tangible and a genuine threat to our heroes Seymour and AudreyAt the time, the most expensive motion picture Warner Bros had ever released, it had a lot riding on its mean, green shoulders. It failed to deliver at the box office but has since become a cult classic on VHS, and it was the first ever DVD to be recalled for content.... and not for the busting of balls, although the song "Mean, Green Mother From Outer Space" was the first song containing naughty words to be nominated for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards. It didn't win, sadly. And nor did it win for Visual Effects, but at least it lost that to Aliens....The cast is flawless and an 80s/90s kid's dream;Rick Moranis is the perfect nerdy, unconfident Seymour that we can all immediately root for. Ellen Greene (reprising her role from the stage) has a meek, shrill voice for Audrey, which transforms into a powerful set of pipes once singing, showing Audrey's inner strength. Steve Martin's Orin Scrivello (D.D.S!) is memorable and threatening enough to be fed to a carnivorous plant without us caring all that much for his loss and additional cameos from Bill Murray, Jim Belushi, Christopher Guest and John Candy just add to the brilliance of the production. And finally, Levi Stubbs just IS Audrey II. His charisma and charm flows through an inanimate puppet, adding to the experience of seeing Audrey II come to life on screen.Famously filmed with an original ending which was scrapped due to a very negative test screening, a new ending was hastily put together and it was the only ending available until the previously only black-and-white footage was digitally coloured and enhanced for released in 2012. "Don't Feed The Plants" - the final song and footage from the Director's Cut, is available on YouTube. It's all table-top miniatures created by Richard Conway and it's delightful - watch it here!A remake is in the pipeline, but I guarantee it will never be able to emulate the charm, nostalgia or dream-like quality of this, and while this in itself is a remake, it's hard to not fall completely in love with everything about it. For me, this really is THE Little Shop of Horrors.Just don't feed the plants!I would love to hear your thoughts on Little Shop of Horrors! Welcome to Episode 1 of the GrowthNZ podcast. I’m your host and founder of GrowthNZ, James Kemp. Each week on the podcast I will be interviewing the best and brightest minds in the business of SEO, Conversion Rate Optimization, and Audience building. In this episode I sit down for a chat with Richard Conway of PureSEO to talk all about SEO in 2015. Richard and I discuss how he’s been able to build PureSEO as a high end, above the noise SEO company that doesn’t dabble in any of the ‘tactics’ that so many of the other companies involve themselves in. PureSEO is amongst the largest and fastest growing companies in New Zealand, and with it’s partnership with Tony Falkenstein last year, it’s poised for even quicker growth going forward. Some of the keys that Richard points to in his success are retaining the key members of your team, thinking globally, and surrounding yourself with people who are more successful than you. You can reach out to Richard directly through the PureSEO site, or call him at 0800Search or (09) 950 3888.
