Full episode on our Patreon. Vinnie Stigma is a foundational figure in the hardcore punk scene and the longtime guitarist of Agnostic Front; a band that helped define the New York hardcore sound. Their music touches on the realities of an early New York, social change and independent thought. Stigma's guitar work was central to releases like United Blood and Victim in Pain, albums that became cornerstones of the hardcore genre. Stigma was involved with Madball, a band fronted by Roger Miret's younger half-brother, Freddy Madball. He also launched a solo project under the name Stigma, releasing albums such as New York Blood and For Love and Glory. In 2024, Stigma published his autobiography, The Most Interesting Man in the World. The book delves into his upbringing in Little Italy, his experiences in the hardcore scene, and his passions outside of music, including cooking, acting, and martial arts. Stigma remains active in the music scene, performing with Agnostic Front and maintaining a strong presence in the NYHC community. http://patreon.com/livingproofnewyorkhttp://livingproofnewyork.com

Welcome to the 2020 debut episode of Metal Matters. We’re kicking the year off with author and music journalist Jon Wiederhorn. If you’re read anything about metal or extreme music, it’s likely that you’ve read Jon’s words. His work has appeared in Decibel and Revolver among others. You may also have read his words in his books Louder Than Hell (co-authored with Katherine Turman), biographies on Al Jourgansen, Scott Ian or Roger Miret. We’re on the eve of the release of Jon’s new book, Raising Hell, a collection of war stories and anecdotes by some of the sickest dudes in metal including, but not limited to Phil Anselmo, Ben Falgoust, Randy Blythe, Max Cavalera, Gary Holt, King Fowley…the list goes on.Intro: “Welcome to Hell” – VenomOutro: “Highway to Hell” – AC/DC See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

On top of that Tim gets mad as hell about Star Wars fans reactions to the Disney buy out and we talk to legendary Agnostic Front frontman Roger Miret as well as giving our personal history with the band. We’ll also be spinning tunes from Drunken Marksman and Red Death
The drummer for "Wisdom In Chains", "Stigma", "Roger Miret and The Disasters" and his first band "245". The sandwich king... Luke Rota! We met up in midtown in a little quiet luncheonette after attempting to find a quiet pizzeria at 6pm on a weeknight in Manhattan. Not happening. We go back to his first band "245" (2 for 5), to "Roger Miret and The Disasters" to "Stigma" up until "Wisdom In Chains" and what's currently going on with them. Who are one of my favorite hardcore bands over the last decade plus. The self-procaimed "Sandwich King" builds his creation for a hypothetical battle for the "Sangweech Championship Belt". Luke is always a lot of fun to hang and talk with. Support him and every one of his bands. Enjoy.
Godfathers of Hardcore. On this episode we speak to Emmy Nominated and Award winning Film, Commercial & Music Video Director / Producer / Editor Ian McFarland. Having started his career as a professionally touring musician and then a film editor, Ian brings a particular understanding of structure, music, pacing and emotion to his projects. He started touring the world in bands at an early age, performing at a wide range of venues: from punk rock parties in backyards and living rooms to major European Open Air Festivals. In the past 10 years he has directed numerous music videos for Grammy-nominated international acts, created Emmy-nominated and award-winning films aired on VICE, ESPN, MTV & LOGO. He has also worked with top brands, ranging from BOSE and Fidelity to The Boston Celtics and Bank of America. Ian discusses he latest new feature length documentary, “The Godfathers of Hardcore”, which is an intimate portrait of two of the most influential men in underground music, Roger Miret and Vinnie Stigma of the iconic New York hardcore punk rock band Agnostic Front. The film has been on the festival circuit since November 2017 where is premiered at the DOCNYC 2017 Film Festival. On episode 118 George is joined all the way from Boston by director Ian McFarland. They discuss Ian's start in documentary, playing bass in punk bands of his own, and crafting a true story of friendship and chosen family out of three decades of hardcore punk history.Vinnie Stigma and Roger Miret have been the longest serving members of foundational New York Hardcore band Agnostic Front. The band goes from sharing an Ed Koch-era Lower East Side squat to international cult acclaim. 60-something Stigma (birth name Capuccio) longs for an older way of life, pre-Giuliani gentrification, while being something of a grown-up kid. Miret has become a suburban Arizona family man, but has a lot of demons that are revealed throughout the film. How does one age gracefully, or at all, in the mosh pit of midlife? While many music docs follow a familiar talking head arc, McFarland has more to say about belonging, male bonding, and identity.Follow Godfathers of Hardcore on:Twitter: @GodfathersofHCInstagram: @thegodfathersofhardcoremovieFollow Sup Doc on:Twitter: @supdocpodcastInstagram: @supdocpodcastFacebook: @supdocpodcastsign up for our mailing listAnd you can show your support to Sup Doc by donating on Patreon.
Ian McFarland is an Emmy nominated and Award winning Film Director, Producer, Editor and Bass player for the Legendary "Blood For Blood". We caught up at the Pennsylvania Hotel across the street from Madison Square Garden to speak mostly about his film, "The Godfathers of Hardcore". In my opinion, the greatest hardcore/punk rock related film to date. Focusing mainly on the lives of the most influential people in underground music... Roger Miret and Vinny Stigma of "Agnostic Front". This was a lot of fun to have the opportunity to do, especially being a huge fan of the film, "Agnostic Front" and his band "Blood For Blood". Thank you for everything Ian. "The Godfathers of Hardcore" is available on all streaming platforms worldwide! We chatted with Ian about what inspired him to make the film, how his professional work as a commercial director prepared him for the different medium of making documentaries, the lasting bonds he built with Roger and Vinnie, and the future of the project. In this episode, we sit down with Hoya Roc, bass player for the New York hardcore band Madball. Hoya has been a long time friend of ours and we appreciate him taking the time to sit down with us and discuss growing up in New York, the Dynamo Open Air festival in 1995, raising a family while being in a full time touring hardcore band, his continued love for the hardcore scene and more. Madball has been a driving force in the hardcore scene since 1988. The band was started by members of Agnostic Front as a side project to allow vocalist Roger Miret’s brother, 12-year-old Freddy to sing. The band has had its share of members including Vinnie Stigma, Matt Henderson, Will Shepler, and Mitts Daniels, but the constant has always been Freddy and Hoya. Despite a year-long break up in 2001, the band has continued on and continues to tour and release new music. Happy New Year everybody! This is the first pod of 2019 and it's a doozy, folks. I tell the tale of the great scarfcapade of 2018 and then I get to my interview with Roger Miret. For those that don't know, Roger Miret was a Cuban immigrant who came to America at the age of four in 1968 and became a pioneer of the New York Hardcore scene in the 80s. He joined seminal NYHC group Agnostic Front in 1983 and has influenced and changed people's attitudes, lives, and perceptions thru his music worldwide. The music of Agnostic Front and NYHC in general oozes brutality and violence, but beneath that is a layer of humanity and brotherhood that's often overlooked. Hearing Roger speak to that in this conversation, and seeing it play out in the documentary "Godfathers of Hardcore" as well as in his book "My Riot" is extremely fascinating. "My Riot" is a true immigrant story of survival in a land of desperation and despair and ultimately, triumphantly, coming out on top. Enjoy this conversation I have with a dude that's sweet as hell who's lived a life that's influenced countless others and who's been humble and true to himself throughout it all. Episode 94 - Roger Miret is a true New York Hardcore legend. As the frontman of Agnostic Front, he has been at it since 1980. His story however is not so simple. Born in Cuba, his parents moved to NYC and he faced and extremely abusive childhood, eventually living on the streets, and also served some time in prison for drug trafficking. Now happily married and living in Arizona, he has written a brand new tell-all book chronicling the stories he faced growing up, the hardcore scene and his time locked up. Shane and Roger discuss the behind the scenes stories of the book, and of course what it’s like to be considered one of the “Godfathers of hardcore”. This week on Episode 63 of Bobby Pickles' Podcast (Dying Scene Radio #8), Bobby Pickles confirms his pirate status, while talk immediately turns to tech news, and Bob Noxious admits he has worn a smart-watch since the age of three, giving a new meaning to the term “early adoption”. But the Apple Watch isn’t very i-Punk; therefore, all the other little boys and girls always wondered why Bob was so overwhelmed with the concept of time. While discussing this week’s music news, Bob’s darkside shows it’s grubby little hand again, as he ponders Bobby’s Internet browser history, and what people would think about his search habits. Bobby erroneously corrects Bob for mentioning a band called Darlington, who was recently on a split 7″ with The Prozacs. Referring to the band in the plural form, Darlingtons, Bobby goes on to claim that Bob cannot remember what he says from week to week and inquires if he has ever taken Prozac. Both Bobs do not know the ailments for which Prozac is even treated. Bob adds “Prozac” to the list of items he prefers to keep out of his search history, then he decides to start a crowd funding campaign to have his co-host, Bobby, killed. Bobby’s impeccable journalism once again shines through, as he brings up the new Flatliners video and 7″ single, which they released last week. Then his pirate-blood really becomes evident when Bobby fires shots across the bow, claiming Bob does not want to include the song in this week’s playlist. Bob argues that he is exempt, presenting his evidence of having played the new Flatliners song “Fangs” on last week’s show. Bobby lets him off the hook. Bobby mentions a new video recently released by pop-punk band, New Found Glory, who Bob presumes to have found a “new harder edge” as Bob continues by fantasizing about Andrew WK killing them all with a chainsaw in the video. Bobby discusses the upcoming release of The American Dream Died, which is the long awaited new record by veteran NYHC band, Agnostic Front. Bobby makes a slanderous accusation of Bob while covering the news of Roger Miret and company, but we’ll just let the listeners decide who’s telling the truth. BAND SPOTLIGHT: ¡La Vasa! The Bobs reach out to Santa Barbara, CA thrash punk band, ¡La Vasa! – Bobby asking right away about the weather in Southern California. Preparing for the CD release party for their new record Quest, the band speaks candidly from the warm confines of their rehearsal studio about its origins and how they started from a craigslist ad. The Bobs uncover that new bass player, Kevin Johnson, is a former DyingScene.com writer – Bob encouraging LeftCoastKJ to contribute articles to the website again. As the show progresses in poor taste, Bobby announces that everything runs “in threes” as he mentions three notable deaths, which took place this week in the punk rock community. The dark clouds continue to accumulate overhead as the two ponder starting a “Celebrity Death Pool” until they realize that there were already three; therefore, the contest is now closed. Bobby reads The Queers statement about the recent passing of their former drummer, Tulu, in the voice of a “Miami Socialite”, while Bob insinuates his undignified co-host sounds more like 70′s icon, Supafly. Bob cops to having discovered that there is a band from Canada called “Bobnoxious” and declares them the “third-worst thing to have ever been produced in Canada”, running a tight race with Nickleback and Justin Beiber (not necessarily in that order). Bob loses two “punk rock points” by confessing to have watched the new Nickleback video at Bobby’s mother’s house, as Bobby secretly plots to destroy Bob someday, opting not publishing his intentions like stupid Bob. Bob declares that the band is still shit and to not waste your time watching it (we all know that’s a black flag). Bobby mentions that he will be interviewing Blag Dahlia of The Dwarves this weekend at Bowery Electric for the launch of their East Coast tour. Bob encourages him to treat Blag to shots, so that Blag will dress him. Tune in next week to see if Pickles can pull it off!
