In this episode of the Futurum Tech Webcast, principal analyst Shelly Kramer is joined by Allan Pym, Chief Operating Officer at APOS, for a conversation on the challenges making the most of business data presents for organizations, and how APOS Live Data Gateway is helping solve those challenges — and in real time. We all know that data is crucial for today's organizations. From sales and marketing to manufacturing and maintenance, smart organizations need data to make decisions in real time. However, with so much data being gathered in so many different places, it can often feel impossible, overwhelming, or both to wrangle it intelligently. So, what can organizations do to make the most of their data? Are there other technology solutions that can help? Why does real-time matter when it comes to accessing and utilizing data? That's exactly what Allan and I covered today, and if you're wrestling with data challenges, it's a conversation you'll very much enjoy. We covered the following: We know that data is important, that's not a secret. In fact, some 94 percent of organizations report needing access to multiple data sources to support their decision-making — but not every organization knows what to do with their data. Allan shared some of the challenges he and the team at APOS are seeing as organizations wrestle with data connectivity. That's not at all difficult to understand, as research shows that on average companies are drawing from more than 400 different data sources. To compound that massive amount of data coming from myriad sources, one-third of companies report experiencing trouble simply connecting those sources together, let alone pulling accurate or meaningful insights from them. We discussed live connectivity: what it is and why it's so important for organizations today. Allan walked us through the APOS Live Data Gateway, its purpose and the key benefits organizations can experience using its three layers of functionality (Data Connection, Data Preparation, and Data Consumption) and three types of data views that can be utilized within the Data Preparation Layer. We explored APOS Live Data Gateway's Data Connection layer, where the solution makes the connection to data, and we talked about some of the data sources that APOS Live Data Gateway provides connectivity with. We explored both the Data Preparation layer and the Data Consumption layer, including how APOS Live Data Gateway works with SAP Solutions and how live connectivity versus import connectivity works with SAP Analytics Cloud. Allan shared that APOS Live Gateway works with analytics solutions beyond just SAP Analytics Cloud, including live connectivity from Power BI to SAP Analytics Cloud, as well as the expanded consumption options that include Odata, ODBC, and JDBC, in the unified semantic layer. Lastly, Allan shared some stories from customers who are currently using APOS Live Data Gateway which, as always, was one of my favorite parts of the conversation. In this episode of the Futurum Tech Webcast – Interview Series, I'm joined by Amanda Mountain, Global Vice President of eCommerce at SAP, for a fascinating and timely conversation on the topic of continuous learning. August marks the start of Back-to-School season. For students, it's an exciting time that kicks off another year of learning and growth. But we'd like to take the time to focus on the importance of continuous learning for businesses. Now is as good a time as ever to prioritize continued education. The future of work is going to take skills many people don't have – where can they learn them? In fact, a World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report found that “50% of employees will need reskilling by 2025 to keep pace with emerging technologies.” Addressing the prevalence of disengaged employees as well as the skills shortage organizations are facing today is an imperative across industries, from retail to the public sector. So what can organizations do to address the current situation? That's just what Amanda and I are going to be discussing. Our conversation covered: The current state of the workforce, as we are seeing an unprecedented number of people leaving jobs in search of something more fulfilling. At the same time, employers are struggling to fill empty positions leaving a heavy burden on the remaining employees to cover positions they might not have been hired for. We explored data from SHRM that showed a whopping 47.8 million workers quit their jobs, an average of nearly 4 million a month. We also explored research from Pew Research Center on the top reasons U.S. workers left a job in 2021, in which low pay and no advancement opportunities and feeling disrespected at work topped the list. We explored why people leave jobs and the important role that creating a culture of continuous learning plays in both talent acquisition and talent retention. We discussed today's workplace landscape and how it is unlike anything we've encountered before. As a result of the monumental shifts the pandemic has ushered in, companies are combatting both talent retention challenges and an ever-growing IT skills gap. It has become increasingly apparent that education and training must evolve with the landscape. Today's learners want – and need — different solutions than L&D leaders have relied on in the past. Amanda shared some of the SAP offerings on that front as well as some insights on how learning behaviors and desires have changed, and what technology solutions are doing to address those changes. Amanda shared how SAP is responding to the need with solutions like the Go1 Learning solution, which provides SAP SuccessFactors customers access to the largest marketplace of off-the-shelf content ready to use via the Open Content Network and SAP Enable Now, which is a comprehensive digital adoption tool that delivers time-of-need learning to help people develop the skills they need to do their job effectively. In this LinkedIn Live episode of the Futurum Tech Webcast – Interview Series, I'm joined by JD Dillon, Chief Learning Architect of Axonify for a conversation about what it takes to prepare your workforce to be resilient in times of disruption — and a lot of that has to do with having the ability to reskill your frontline workforce. If we've learned anything in the last year, it's that our frontline workforce is critical to business operations. Beyond resilience, as it relates to both frontline workers and the organization as a whole, learning management solutions can, and do, deliver bottom line value. One of the things that I find most impressive about JD, apart from the fact that he's flat out brilliant, is that his career path has been a fascinating one, and a tribute to what I mean when I call him “brilliant.” He has led Learning & Development at Walt Disney World, and from there he went to leading the Learning & Technology Development at Kaplan Higher Ed. In this episode of the Futurum Tech Webcast – Interview Series, I'm joined by Tim Yates, the CEO of DataXstream for a conversation around how wholesalers are benefitting from DataXstream's OMS+. We've been talking a lot about supply chain here at Futurum, and with good reason. A global pandemic has shown us in no uncertain terms how important supply chain is and, in some instances, how precarious ours is. That's especially true as it relates to some 415,000 wholesale distributors out there, with a combined annual sales of some $7.8 trillion. We kicked off the show with Tim sharing some background on how a career start as a mechanical engineer morphed into technology and ultimately founding and leading DataXstream. Before diving into technology solutions, we discussed some common challenges wholesale distributors face, including: The wholesale distribution ordering process, which can be a nightmare. Think multiple supply chain locations, different prices for different customers, based on agreements that vary across the board, large orders that often span over a hundred lines — complex is an understatement when it comes to describing that challenge. Inventory management difficulties. The (sometimes massive) learning curve related to ERP solutions within the organization, and the fact that front line and field salespeople often have to spend a lot of time trying to learn the nuances of those platforms. We explored how we're seeing customers impacted by COVID-19 and how things like inventory visibility have played a role in the transformational shift that many wholesale distributors are undergoing. We talked about the importance of rapid digital transformation, in the wholesale distributor industry and beyond, some of the roadblocks customers face, and what we see ahead. We then shifted to discuss DataXstream's OMS+, which is an order management solution that helps wholesale distributors offer customers fast, reliable service, and Tim shared some key benefits of OMS+, along with some customer/industry use case examples. As Head of Digital Commerce, he is responsible for developing the SAP Store as well as an increasing number of marketplaces such as Amazon for the distribution of SAP products, services and training. S. A complex service, in which besides Benjamin's customer also his customer plays a central role. After all, it is often the small conscious things with which you make a positive difference to customers, relieve. But how can this succeed smoothly? Especially when working together virtually and with digital tools? Finally, it is a fine line not to spy on or harass the other. A question of attitude. Treating each other. Silently disrupting. In This Episode Digital transformation is more than a buzzword. It’s a movement. In this episode Brian and Daniel begin by defining what digital transformation is and exchanging views on the importance of buy-in and it’s role in successful digital transformation. The conversation then moves to how digital transformation starts and progresses. The episode ends with fantastic examples of why digital transformation is necessary - not just future business success - but success today.   In the opening minutes Daniel shares a few interesting statistics about this episode’s show sponsor the SAP Store. Brian puts on his change evangelist hat and begins his answer by stating that digital transformation requires a mindset shift. Successful digital transformation begins with an audit.   Ask yourself these 4 questions: What experiences do I want to achieve? How am I leveraging my existing solutions? Where do I need to make immediate changes? Where do I need to make programmatic changes? And remember, change does not have to happen all at once! Where does the buy-in for digital transformation start? Top down. Bottom up. Daniel points out that there is no one size fits all transformation path. Often there is a ground swell in an organization that fuels digital transformation. As employees start to feel disgruntled by current applications and processes and the “what you give me isn’t good enough” sentiment increases employees will seek out other options and passive transformation begins. But change cannot be siloed. Effective digital transformation begins once leadership acknowledges that the way things have always been done are no longer working. Once leadership is willing to seek out new solutions and empower and educate employees, and adopt new strategies themselves to lead by example, that is when buy-in enables digital transformation.
