Giving you guys a taste of the TCAST Tech Podcast I do. If you want to learn more listen here on Apple or Spotify here.  Ryan Hawk, the host of "The Learning Leader Show," began the conversation by sharing his definition of a learning leader. According to Hawk, a learning leader is someone who is committed to their own personal growth and development, and who encourages and enables others to do the same. This requires a deep sense of humility and vulnerability, as well as a willingness to take risks and learn from failure. So, how can leaders become better learners? Hawk shared several strategies, including building a personal board of advisors, seeking feedback regularly, and embracing failure as a necessary part of the learning process. He emphasized the importance of developing a growth mindset and a willingness to step outside of one's comfort zone in order to try new things and take risks. Hawk and Rigby also discussed the role of leadership in creating a learning culture within an organization. According to Hawk, this requires setting clear goals, providing ongoing feedback, and creating a safe space for experimentation and innovation. He shared examples of companies that have successfully implemented learning cultures, and the benefits they have seen as a result. Of course, creating a learning culture is not without its challenges. Resistance to change is a common obstacle that leaders may face when trying to introduce new ways of working and thinking. Hawk emphasized the importance of leading by example and being transparent about the reasons behind the changes, in order to build trust and gain buy-in from team members. In conclusion, being a learning leader is essential in today's fast-paced, ever-changing business landscape. By embracing a growth mindset, cultivating humility and vulnerability, and creating a learning culture within their organization, leaders can not only benefit their own personal growth, but also the growth and success of their team and organization as a whole. Kerry Coleman has a broad lived experience including but not limited to: • Working in family Greengrocery and Health Food Shop • Home-birth mum • Home-school mum • Birthing support person • Cruising Yachtie mum • Lifeline phone counsellor • Merchandiser • Mature-age student • Integrative Nutrition Health Coach • Bachelor of Learning Management graduate • Early Years school teacher • Education Officer in a Child and Family Centre • Playgroup facilitator Kerry has spent much of the past 35 years raising her own children and supporting families of young children in their years. Excited to enter the world of teaching after graduating at 52, Kerry found that much of her time was spent managing her students' behaviours. She studied integrative nutrition health coaching and what she learned helped with her own health but along the way she made the connection between what she was seeing in school lunchboxes and the peaks and slumps in energy and moodiness of the kids in her classes. Over a decade of teaching and working with young families Kerry also discovered that many parents may not fully understand their role as first educators of their children and is passionate about encouraging parents of young children in that role. Walking away from teaching at the end of 2019, Kerry has reinvented herself as an author with her first book, The Superpower Lunchbox, which arms parents with loads of great tips that help them support their children's development as learners and to thrive at school. There is a simple 5 step guide to creating a satisfying and nourishing lunchbox that will keep kids going at school and not take too long to prepare. Key Take-Aways: 1. Keep it Super Simple - feed kids real food from nature most of the time, the five steps are nothing magical - just a simple way to make sure kids are fed real food. 2. We need to get schools on board as well - we can't keep doing things the way we've always done them. We need everyone working together to make a real difference. 3. Knowledge is power. People said, "You'll be preaching to the converted" but I believe when people know there is a better way they will want to do that for their kids. Parents are the key people in making these changes. Sometimes conversations don't always take the path that was planned. I love when that happens because that's when you learn even more allowing ideas to flow. That's what happened today's guest. A few weeks ago, I reconnected with Diane Wolf. I met Diane in Franklin TN as we both attended Ray Edwards Copywriting Academy Live event. We sat at the same table and spent a lot of time learning from one another. Over the four years, we had lost touch and I reached out to reconnect. What I thought would be a little conversation to hear about how she had pivoted her business turned out to be a wealth of information to help alleviate the stresses of life. Diane Wolf is a psychotherapist and educator in private practice. She is also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and works primarily with first responders and front-line professionals who have been diagnosed with anxiety, depression, and PTSD. In her role as an educator, she delivers online courses to help people manage stress and anxiety before needing therapy. She provides them with tools and strategies so that they can build resilience and take control of their stress levels before they are out of control. Diane has been a passionate student of neuroscience for over 40 years and calls herself a 'neuro-nerd'. She holds both an MBA in Knowledge and Learning Management and a master's degree in Clinic Counselling. She is also a retired university professor, so her unique combination of experience as both educator and therapist provide the ideal foundation for teaching online courses. Diane has been happily married for 42 years with three grown children and loves to spend her spare time with her grandchildren, who are the sunshine in her life. I loved how my and Diane's conversation deviated as she shared actionable steps that you and I can take to truly make our lives happier and healthier. Enjoy! Get Disruption-Ready by Reskilling Your Frontline Workforce — How Learning Management Solutions Deliver Bottom Line Value

Futurum Tech Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 3, 2021 41:46

In this LinkedIn Live episode of the Futurum Tech Webcast – Interview Series, I'm joined by JD Dillon, Chief Learning Architect of Axonify for a conversation about what it takes to prepare your workforce to be resilient in times of disruption — and a lot of that has to do with having the ability to reskill your frontline workforce. If we've learned anything in the last year, it's that our frontline workforce is critical to business operations. Beyond resilience, as it relates to both frontline workers and the organization as a whole, learning management solutions can, and do, deliver bottom line value. One of the things that I find most impressive about JD, apart from the fact that he's flat out brilliant, is that his career path has been a fascinating one, and a tribute to what I mean when I call him “brilliant.” He has led Learning & Development at Walt Disney World, and from there he went to leading the Learning & Technology Development at Kaplan Higher Ed. Today, JD leads all things learning-related at Axonify, an award-winning team of software developers and learning specialists based in Canada's world- renowned technology hub, Waterloo, Ontario. I should also mention that JD is the founder and principal of LearnGeek, an independent practice that provides advising and education services to organizations and professionals that want to provide better workplace learning and support experiences for their employees. He's an author, an advisory board member at HR.com, and, well, you'd be hard pressed to find a better resource when it comes to learning management and insight on how to use technology to power your learning and development initiatives. Which is exactly why I was excited to feature him on our Interview Series. In Times of Disruption, Frontline Employees Are Even More Critical Than Ever In our conversation, JD and I discussed the fact that companies of all sizes have experienced quite a bit of disruption in the last year and many weren't ready to deal with the myriad challenges that presented. But one thing we know to be sure, in times of disruption, frontline employees are even more critical than ever. But we also know that as we've navigated a global pandemic during the course of the last 18 months, things are especially challenging for frontline employees. These employees, from cashiers to grocery store and retail workers, to medical personnel, were (and are) learning as they work in order to keep up with disruption and also do their part to keep business operations on track. This impact is still being felt across the globe, but could the right learning platform lessen the burden for these employees and help organizations be better prepared for the future? That's what JD and I dove into in our conversation. Learning Management Solutions for Frontline Workers Deliver Bottom Line Business Value Our discussion around tech-focused learning management solutions for frontline workers was far-reaching and focused on how these solutions can and do deliver bottom line business value. Our conversation touched on the following: The attributes that make frontline employees unique within the global workforce. How effective businesses have been at supporting frontline employees in the last year. JD shared insights on what Axonify is seeing with their customers. The critical areas companies have focused on for upskilling and reskilling employees that either returned to work after being furloughed or changed jobs. JD shared why the frontline employee experience is so unique and requires a new way of thinking for reskilling and training. We explored how Axonify's learning platform delivered the digital experience that frontline employees require, as well as how it fits alongside existing solutions like SAP® SuccesFactors® We wrapped up the conversation with a discussion on what people can do to help their organizations get past the obstacles that stand in the way of meaningful learning and development. For SAP SuccessFactors customers, using Axonify is truly a game-changer. You can find Axonify on the SAP Store, along with an Infosheet that our team produced: Improving the Efficacy of Frontline Training Programs with Axonify. It was a terrific conversation and if you're looking to reskill your frontline workforce, or even make sure that what you're currently doing is on target, it's one you won't want to miss.

A solution that's helping companies keep team members educated and engaged are learning management systems.  You can contact us at: insidefashionlive.netLearn more about Eclipse Learning Partners:  http://eclipselearningpartners.com/Episode SummaryOne of the challenges in having most of your team members working remotely is training. Before, it was easy to organize on-site training and ensure that everyone was updated and educated across the entire department, division or company. Now, most companies are using some form of independent learning, with managers hoping that every one is up to speed on new procedures, protocols, systems and so forth. But how do you know if everyone has watched the training video? Or the screencast outlining a new protocol?  This can be particularly critical for areas where a lack of knowledge can lead to costly mistakes.Beyond that, there's also the matter of keeping a team of people working remotely feeling  like they are still part of a team and engaged with the company culture. One solution that's helping to solve this are learning management systems.  These fairly easy to install programs take the typical video training library and turn it into an organized system that managers can use to monitor employee training.Today I'm speaking with Steve Peckman, founder of Eclipse Learning Partners.Steve has spent over two decades working with companies to create internal career development and training systems, as well as process and change management programs. He's been able to develop programs that are well aligned with the company's business objectives, and offer a great user experience, as well.Through Eclipse Learning Partners, Steve is taking learning management to the next level by helping companies create a team spirit amongst employees who are working from home, as well as keeping them up to speed on important skills and protocol.

Dr. Jade E. Davis, Director of Educational Technology and Learning Management at University of Pennsylvania Libraries cautions educators against the knee jerk tendency to use videos of violence in classroom discussions: “As much as I think it’s important to bear witness for certain things, when we don’t have the voice of the person saying it’s OK to watch me die in this way, and when we don’t know who else will see or how else it might be used, it’s important to be cautious.” In a moment where teachers may feel compelled to address the recent violent deaths, Dr. Davis says: “We are in the middle of lots and lots of traumatic things right now. And we don’t know where our students are coming from. So even if a student doesn’t see themselves implicated on either side of the video, meaning the person who is doing the violence or the person who is being murdered. It might be too much for them right now.” Listen to Dr. Davis’ recommendations for engaging in compassionate discussions, how to create a safe space for talking through the trauma of this moment, and how, as educators, to practice self-care.

My guest on the podcast is Tom Pennings, Founder and CEO of Onsophic He’s what he calls a highly technical entrepreneur, technology enthusiast and business networker. He’s worked for Borland, EVS, Google and Apple. Inspired by bringing data to the learning process, he and his co-founder Ian Hart assembled a team on two continents to connect digital transformation and assisted intelligence. This was the start of Onsophic. Unlike many Learning Management systems on the market Onsophic is about intelligently guiding every single employee in a company to optimize learning effectiveness and achieve their business objectives, rather than just delivering the training material and process. In doing so it not only increases the performance of global enterprises but also accelerates their human potential. This inspired me, hence I invited Tom to my podcast. During our interview we’ll explore how the education process is broken and how that creates a gap between HR and the business objectives any organization has. We also address what questions business leaders should really ask, and what mindset they should embrace to succeed with Digital Transformation, customer centricity, risk and compliance and learning 4.0. Here are some of Tom’s quotes: We bridge the gap between HR and the business objectives by correlating training with on‑the‑job performance. There's 536 different LMS solutions out there. What that really is, is I would say ‑‑ and this not meant negative ‑‑ it is a content delivery…. facilitating the delivery processThe challenges is, our opinion, not with the delivery process. It is about guiding each and every individual.Ultimately, Onsophic's goal is accelerating the human potential. The biggest win is acceleration of their human potential, but also in time.Very many CEOs underestimate the value of the people in their companyIt's really the people that drives a company. It's really important to make sure that you make strategic decisions on making the cake, getting the most out of these peopleI'm not talking about getting more performance out of them by implementing rules to make them work harder. No, it's about making, really, the work lighter on your human potential and get the most out of it. By listening to this interview, you will learn three things:1) That the best results are achieved when process, people and intelligence augmentation blend in the right way2) That we have to increment the skills and capabilities of the workforce while we are bringing in new tools and technologies into the workplace3) That gut-feel is often a very good guide to follow in order to pivot the trajectory of your business – and that spending time on assembling a team with the same believes and passion is essential to scale the horsepower behind your business. One of the biggest challenges for teachers lately is organizing curricula and having meaningful conversations online with students in a safe environment. There are several horror stories of teachers video conference classrooms being hijacked by hackers, who until now were the furthest thing away from the minds of educators. Like, who really thought that would be an issue eight months ago? Weirdly enough this year has brought about another wrinkle to online instruction that is currently a flaw in most Learning Management systems, a lack of social-emotional interaction. Enter Microsoft Teams for Education, an excellent one-stop-shop for security, safety, and supporting student engagement. In this episode, *Bhavani Kola* ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/bhavanikola/ ) mathematics and statistics instructor at Tarrant Junior College, and *Kimberly Barrett* ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/kimmyb96/ ) English teacher at Calloway County High School, help me explain why *Microsoft Teams for Education* ( https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/education/products/teams?OCID=AID2100242_SEM_%3AG%3As&ef_id=CjwKCAjw74b7BRA_EiwAF8yHFMSj476F-mnoGzU_c1rdhBSaCANXdck0Wt5asK9macKj82_FKpZ7gBoCc44QAvD_BwE%3AG%3As&gclid=CjwKCAjw74b7BRA_EiwAF8yHFMSj476F-mnoGzU_c1rdhBSaCANXdck0Wt5asK9macKj82_FKpZ7gBoCc44QAvD_BwE&utm_source=google ) just works in the 21st-century classroom environment. Bhavani, a *Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert* ( https://educationblog.microsoft.com/en-us/2020/08/congratulations-to-the-microsoft-innovative-educator-expert-class-of-2021/ ) shares her expertise on her youtube channel *F2F to Online Transition* ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAPrQmuxk8X9MAm5Pu88szQ ) training educators on the ins and outs of effectively using Microsoft Teams with students. Bhavani also helped me to understand that learning math from a teacher you like is more memorable than learning math from a teacher you dislike, which pretty much explains my relationship with Math. Speaking of relationships, Kimberly is also a *Microsoft Innovative Expert* ( https://educationblog.microsoft.com/en-us/2020/05/join-the-new-class-of-microsoft-innovative-educator-experts/ ) and specialized in personalized learning, teaching freshman English at Calloway High School.
