You also knew the dangers of technology and were intentional in your efforts to guard your heart against them. You used the gifts you had in this world to bless others through radical charity, through seeing Christ in the face of those ignored by society, through the witness of friendship, and through your natural aptitudes with technology. In our world so broken by abuses of technology and which so often ignores or attacks human dignity, please intercede for us to God the Father so we may see the human dignity of everyone we encounter and ask for guidance from the Lord whenever we may be tempted to violate that dignity in our online interactions. Blessed Carlo Acutis, pray that we may treat our ever-evolving connections with developing technology as an opportunity to see the grace of God at work, even in the complexities of our modern world. The Apostles were but soft and yielding clay till they were baked hard by the fire of the Holy Ghost. So, good Lord, do now in like manner with Thy Church militant, change and make the soft and slippery earth into hard stones. Set in Thy Church strong and mighty pillars that may suffer and endure great labors–watching, poverty, thirst, hunger, cold and heat–which also shall not fear the threatenings of princes, persecution, neither death, but always persuade and think with themselves to suffer with a good will, slanders, shame, and all kinds of torments, for the glory and laud of Thy Holy Name. By this manner, good Lord, the truth of Thy Gospel shall be preached throughout the world. Therefore, merciful Lord, exercise Thy mercy, show it indeed upon Thy Church. Welcome back to our Health Systems Science series! This episode discusses Systems and Processes. Today’s guest is Angela Jacob. Angela is a 4th year medical student at The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences pursuing Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Angela is a Toledo native with a passion for service and community outreach. Her background in working with populations in need inspired her to kickstart the UTCOM Cares project with her peers during the COVID-19 pandemic. In her free time, Angela enjoys horticulture, spending time with friends and family, and exploring the Toledo Metroparks with her dog, Luna. Today’s episode also features Dr. Stephanie Mann, who is a professor and the Associate Dean for Clinical Undergraduate Medical Education at the University of Toledo. Questions and topics covered in this episode include: What is systems thinking and what are the frameworks for triple and quadruple aim “Health Systems Science is the bridge between the basic sciences and clinical curriculum” How systems thinking can be applied to patient encounters to best coordinate care for each individual based on their unique circumstance and situation How understanding the various systems can help you understand what is available and how to get people who need resources the most access to those resources in the most efficient, expeditious, and highest quality way With support from Elsevier, and produced in collaboration with the American Medical Association, the HSS series seeks to broaden students’ understanding of the nature of medicine, medical education, and what separates them from other human endeavors. Medicine is not a “pure science,” a kind of “applied biology.” Rather, it is fundamentally an art that uses science. As a discipline, Health Systems Science considers those ideas and concepts which are integral to medicine as a profession but don’t fall under the domain of the clinical or basic sciences. The National Board of Medical Examiners includes HSS topics in its USMLE Content Outline and even offers a dedicated Health Systems Science subject examination. Each episode of this series will include on-the-go learning with practice exam questions explained by expert guests. This series is sponsored by Panacea Financial: Banking Built for Doctors, by Doctors. ITB and Panacea share a common goal which is to make med school better. Panacea Financial is designed to handle the unique situation of medical students. We hope you will check them out to see how they can make your life easier. With the UK now well underway in working towards net-zero by 2050, the way we produce, use and store energy is changing. Our sources of power, heating and transport must decarbonise if we are to achieve the net-zero targets outlined by the Committee on Climate Change, but current methods of offshore renewable energy production cannot achieve this alone. This is where Green Hydrogen comes in. In the latest Re-Energise podcast episode, want to dive head-first into the world of hydrogen to try and understand its place in the ever evolving offshore renewable energy sector. Our experts scope out the future possibilities, reveal key research from ORE Catapult on hydrogen-offshore wind integration and introduce new ground-breaking community projects being launched this year. Gavin Smart joined ORE Catapult in April 2014 and holds the post of Head of Analysis & Insights. He is responsible for developing and maintaining ORE Catapult's financial and economic modelling, which feeds directly into the organisation's commercial strategy. He has previously worked as Senior Investment Analyst for a major European utility and offshore wind developer, as well as a Valuation and Business Modelling consultant in the Middle East. In This Episode, Darlene and Stephanie Mann discuss: Her book Empowerment Parenting which is not only crucial for today but especially in light of this health crisis. The beginning of Stephanie’s development and how they work with the homeless helped her develop her programs. Key Takeaways: It is essential to support children at an early age. Every child needs a healthy family and healthy neighborhood to feel safe. As disruptive as the current situation is, it is an ideal time to connect with your family and to make relationships stronger. How working with homeless men helped her genuinely understand the needs of children, which are ten steps outlined in her book. Empowerment Parenting starts with helping children recognize how special they are. Sexual abuse and sex trafficking is more prevalent than people are aware. Children need to be taught how to be creative and to develop tools in dealing with life’s obstacles as Stephanie beautifully exemplified with her son dealing with a bully. ”If we can hold onto these positives, we can be open to the rainbow, which will peak through when the storm subsides.” - Darlene Corbett Connect with Stephanie Mann: Website: https://safekidsnow.com/ Book: Empowerment Parentjng and her other publications can be found at https://safekidsnow.com/books/ Her social media links can be found on her website. In first episode of the series, Stephanie Mann, Innovation Manager at ORE Catapult, spoke to three company CEOs who have moved their businesses into the UK's fast-growing offshore wind sector. They share their stories of breaking into the market, pitching ideas to wind industry giants, tackling 'innovation inertia' and outline the newest opportunities for forward-thinking entrepreneurs. Could you also capitalise on this business opportunity of the century? James Barry is CEO of Renewable Parts, which started up in Scotland in 2011 seeing a gap in the market for sustainable supply of replacement parts to wind turbines. By refurbishing old parts, the company has reduced environmental impact and provided the most cost-effective solution to industry. The company is now one of the leading suppliers of parts for wind turbines in the UK, an independent supply chain specialist providing worldwide delivery and a champion for improving recycling rates in the wind industry. They have forged successful academic and industry collaborations with Strathclyde University and Scotland's Energy Technology Partnership (ETP). Working with the ETP, Renewable Parts developed original and innovative remanufacture, reconditioning and refurbishment processes for the wind sector. www.renewable-parts.com | @RenewableParts Mark Lawless is CEO of JBA Consulting, an environmental, engineering and risk group that was founded in 1995 and has since grown to be one of Europe's leading specialists in environmental engineering and management. They have conducted major studies for national governments and international bodies such as the European Investment Bank, European Commission, Defra and the Environment Agency. JBA's Metocean Risk Management team has developed a range of advanced techniques for metocean forecasting and planning which are provided through its proprietary software ForeCoast Marine. The tools enable operators to understand and manage the harsh and often extreme conditions offshore, helping them to reduce the impact on lifetime cost of energy and associated health and safety risks. www.jbaconsulting.com | @JBAConsulting Stephanie Mann is an Innovation Manager in ORE Catapult's Research and Disruptive Innovation Department. She has a particular interest in novel technologies that could potentially disrupt the renewable energy sector. Prior to joining the Catapult, Stephanie came to the end of a four-year EngD with the Industrial Doctoral Centre for Offshore Renewable Energy (Idcore), working especially with novel wind in the data science team at E.ON. She is completing her thesis on yield methodologies and resource assessment for airborne wind. Through her time at the Catapult, she has used her technical skills and industry contacts to scope possible future collaborations between SMEs, industry and academia. She specializes in space applications for the offshore wind industry. See: www.ore.catapult.org.uk or @ORECatapult. She also recently launched her own science channel 'Are Cats Liquid and other science questions': https://www.youtube.com/sciencewithsteph Kenny Wiggins is Chairman of Span Access Solutions based in Kinross and Methil, Scotland, is a specialist in alternative access and working at height solutions for the oil and gas, civil engineering, and most recently, offshore wind sector. Kenny's team are currently working with ORE Catapult on a £830k Innovate UK-backed project BASE (Blade Access System and Working Environment) that will develop a tower-mounted blade access system and habitat to provide a stable working environment for technicians. Cost modelling performed by ORE Catapult estimates that the technology has the potential to reduce the levelized cost of energy by 0.6 per cent, or £1.05 billion across the European offshore wind fleet. www.spanaccess.co.uk | @Spanaccess

Tonight's special guest is Stephanie Mann from the San Francisco area, a returning NAASCA family member who's an author and crime & violence prevention specialist. Her life's mission started in 1969 in her hometown of Orinda, California, where she worked with community leaders and helped spearhead a citywide crime-prevention program. In 1975, with the support of California's first lady at the time, Nancy Reagan, and the California Youth Authority, Stephanie and Shirley Henke published Alternatives to Fear: Guidelines to Safer Neighborhoods, a guidebook which helped popularize the “Neighborhood Watch” Program nationwide. Ms Mann eventually saw the need to co-author another book. In 1993, she wrote Safe Homes Safe Neighborhoods: Stopping Crime where You Live (Nolo Press) with Mary Claire Blakeman. Stephanie's work continued to expand in the 1990s. “I realized child safety needed to be the primary focus for communities,” she says. “My work with the homeless in Oakland exposed me to the legacy of childhood neglect, abuse and social isolation.” Street Safe Kids was published in 2000 as a ten-step guide to give parents practical tools to help young people become safe and spiritually strong. Stephanie continues to speak out on the need for individuals to take responsibility for neighborhood and community safety to protect children. (Please also see: www.pinterest.com/safekidsnow)
