A new study shows there has been a rise in hospital visits due to cannabis poisoning since legalization, although when taken properly, can offer health benefits. Our guest is Dr. Hance Clarke - Pain specialist and president of the Canadian Consortium for the Investigation of Cannabiniods. We also hear about recent research about the number of Canadians using recreational cannabis to self-medicate from Lynda Balneave at the University of Manitoba.
2023 was the hottest year on record, at 1.48 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels. That's just below the 1.5 C increase that the UN says is the limit to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. As the summer of 2024 approaches in the Northern Hemisphere, climate scientists are raising the alarm on dangerous impacts of ongoing heat waves. Also Shell's flagship carbon capture and storage project in Canada generated millions of dollars in carbon credits based on greenhouse gas emission reductions that never took place. According to a study by Greenpeace Canada, the scheme was part of Shell's billion-dollar Quest carbon capture project. While these phantom credits were legal from 2015 to 2021 under approved carbon tax rules, Shell's actions raise questions about carbon capture practices in Canada's lucrative fossil fuel industry. And a paper published in the journal Scientific Reports describes the case study of an orangutan who treated and healed his own wound. Understanding your spouse's mindset during a separation can be challenging, especially if you are eager to mend the relationship. This comprehensive guide delves into the complex emotions and thoughts your spouse might be experiencing during this trying period. Accompanying articles: What is my spouse thinking during separation? On Medium: What is my spouse thinking while we are separated? On Substack: What is my spouse thinking while separated? On Life Coach Hub: What your spouse is thinking during separation Relief and Regret: Often, a spouse oscillates between feelings of relief and regret. Relief may stem from escaping the tension and discomfort of an unhappy marriage, while regret can arise from pondering the finality of their decision and the loss of shared dreams and memories. Reviewing Justifications: Your spouse likely spends significant time justifying their decision for separation. This could involve reflecting on negative aspects of the marriage, such as feelings of rejection, disrespect, or incidents of infidelity. Doubts about their decision may also surface, particularly if there were positive aspects and strong bonds in the relationship. Fear of a Wrong Decision: Amidst the justification, there's often an underlying fear that they might have made the wrong choice. This fear can be exacerbated by factors like children's wellbeing, the depth of the marital bond, and the overall quality of the relationship prior to the separation. Seeking Validation from Others: During this period, your spouse might seek reassurance from friends and family. These interactions can either support their decision to separate or challenge it, adding complexity to their emotional journey. Self-Medicating and Reward-Seeking Behaviors: To cope with the stress and uncertainty of separation, some individuals might engage in activities they perceive as liberating or rewarding. This could range from starting new relationships to indulging in lifestyle changes they believe were restricted during the marriage. Curiosity and Strategic Contact: Implementing a strategic contact rule, where interactions are limited to essential topics like children or shared assets, can provoke curiosity in your spouse. By handling these interactions with dignity and respect, without pressuring them about the relationship, you can maintain a healthy communication channel. Loneliness and Reflection: Despite initial relief, loneliness often creeps in, leading your spouse to reflect on the separation's impact. This can lead to more frequent and thoughtful communication, as they begin to miss the companionship and intimacy shared with you. Wondering About Reconciliation: Even if outwardly resolute, your spouse might internally debate the possibility of reconciliation. This is particularly true if you have shown willingness to address issues they highlighted. Their internal debate often revolves around whether the relationship could indeed be salvaged. Seeking Positive Interactions: Positive interactions during necessary communication can lay the groundwork for rebuilding the relationship. Simple gestures of kindness and avoiding negativity can gradually reshape their perception of the relationship. Navigating the Emotional Cycle: Throughout the separation, your spouse will likely experience a cycle of emotions, from frustration and happiness to doubt and hope. Understanding this emotional cycle can help you approach the situation with empathy and patience. In conclusion, separation is a time of complex emotions and introspection for your spouse. By understanding these potential thought processes and handling interactions judiciously, you can create a conducive environment for possible reconciliation. Remember, patience and empathy are key in navigating this challenging journey.

It wasn't until Luke went into treatment again in 2022 that he was correctly diagnosed with ADHD and Bipolar 3. Meg Webb's Generalised Anxiety Disorder started young and originally presented as constant worrying. It was incredibly difficult, but not a symptom others would notice. The anxiety she was struggling with eventually became more conspicuous during a high school presentation when her hands began to tremble uncontrollably. Later, in her first job, she experienced daily dread that she'd be asked to do something that would mean her colleagues would notice her shaking. She wouldn't eat or drink in social situations and eventually found them all too difficult. Eventually, Meg self-medicated with alcohol, which only made her anxiety worse. In her 40s, she became curious about sobriety and embarked on a journey that not only freed her from alcohol but also reduced her overall anxiety. This newfound freedom led Meg to discover her purpose as an Alcohol Recovery Coach.Meg works with women in their midlife who are wanting to find a freedom from alcohol, and uses tools for this and for reducing anxiety in their life, and also for finding their joy and passion. She is a certified This Naked Mind coach, a nutrition coach and a teacher's aide for children with autism. On this episode, I chat about my feelings around self medicating -- a vague but necessary subject. Each of us knows what our unhealthiest self turns to and it becomes bad for us when we confuse the self medicating to be self serving. Regardless if it's porn, alcohol, cigarettes, cannabis, social media or something more nefarious like pharmaceuticals -- we have to be mindful of treating ourselves for wounds that we find inside. Our closest friends and allies should be leaned on when it comes to checking in on ourselves. From our view- whether we have a healthy outlet for our experiences or are are using a substance to cope - we often can't always see this truth for ourselves. Do you find yourself self medicating on occasion? Chat with me @dailydoseofbpod Facebook @brittaniejay
Governor Gavin Newsom admits he likes to self-medicate with a glass of wine while watching the nightly news. He believes the homeless should not have to be subject to rules and regulations when going to shelters for a bed or a hot meal. Newsom is looking to put a new state amendment together mandating cities and counties to clean up the homeless crisis or face legal action. 2+2 no longer equals 4, according to members of the Ontario Mathematics Coordinators Association, who consider the equation to be a white-supremacist dog whistle instead of a basic mathematical truth. According to a webinar created by OMCA president Jason To, proponents of math's political neutrality who use the phrasing “2 + 2 = 4” are engaged in an act of “Covert White Supremacy.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

You wake up in the morning and think, "Dang it! I wasn't gonna drink last night." Now you feel like crap and don't want to get out of bed. A lot of us live in the middle ground: you wouldn't consider yourself an alcoholic, but you also aren't exactly happy with your relationship with alcohol. It's an awkward place to be. …Maybe you're making up rules for yourself like you'll only drink on weekends, on special occasions, or with friends. …Maybe you say you'll have just one glass of wine, but it turns into two or the whole bottle. …Maybe you're a Groundhog Day drinker… Every morning you make a pact with yourself and you inevitably break it. Again and again. Let's pause the spiral of shame and have an open conversation about how alcohol is a popular and culturally acceptable method to tone down the chaos in your mind so you can chill out in the evenings - particularly useful when you have ADHD and loud children. Let me be clear: I'm not here to tell you never to drink again. I want you to have the relationship YOU want with alcohol, no matter what it looks like. Synopsis: The Straits Times analyses Singapore's latest news and announcements in this weekly podcast. The Straits Times' Zakir Hussain, Singapore editor at The Straits Times, speaks with Money FM 89.3's Timothy Goh and Bharati Jagdish. Some over-the-counter medicine to treat fever, cough and cold are in short supply at pharmacies here, as more Covid-19 patients opt to self-medicate. Checks by The Straits Times found that several pharmacies, including Watsons and Guardian, are running low on Panadol Cough & Cold and Decolgen - which are used to relieve symptoms brought about by a cold or flu. In this week's episode, the team discusses the severity of this shortage and when we can expect supplies of common medications to recover and stabilise. Let's slow down and become aware of the ways in which we distract ourselves from discomfort at every turn. Whether it's with alcohol or other substances or with an activity like scrolling social media, so often we have a tendency to numb, and self medicate our negative emotions and sensations. Don't worry! It's normal because it's what we were taught. But you can rip that program out and reinstall a new one. Release what does not serve you. Let go. #fall2021 If this video triggers you: ask yourself why and I love you. xo YOU'RE INVITED TO THE SOBER OCTOBER CHALLENGE: An Alcohol free challenge for Self Care Over Self Medicating! If you want to create the life you truly want where you are happy, motivated, successful, in great relationships, and feeling like you are in control, click the link below to find out how I have helped other people like you get there. To LIVE THE STRONG LIFE means to live with Strength, Tenacity, Resilience, Optimism, Nurturing […] The post EP 1585 What are you self-medicating with??? appeared first on The Strong Life Project.
If you have been following me on social media for the past year (2019-2020), you will know that I got to a point where I felt like I had a problem with drinking. Yes, it is true. After becoming a Mom and watching my childhood trauma and hormone induced anxieties rise like the sun every morning, I found myself at the bottom of a bottle of wine (and sometimes TWO) most nights of the week, and usually chased back with a few cigarettes. I was NOT living my best life (even though I often liked to think that I was). It got to the point where I decided to quit drinking alcohol altogether, forever; and it ended up lasting 9 months. It was in this period of sobriety that I came across the most inspiring high-vibe sober coach, Jen Clements. Jen also used to LOVE drinking alcohol. So much so that the social lubrication of her 20's turned in to self-medication in her 30's. Like me in my big drinking days, Jen also had no outward sign of a problem. Her friends and family respected her, she was a successful lawyer, happily married with two healthy little boys. And she exercised regularly! So, of course, she had no problem, right? The problem, however, was a dark vicious cycle of torment on the inside. Every day she did mental cartwheels waiting for 5pm when she could pour her beloved ice cold sav blanc into a large glass and drink again, ending the mental torment. And almost every day, that innocent one glass of vino would turn into a bottle, even if she were alone. Of course, the next day, she would work on “controlling” her drinking by setting new drinking rules to live by. If you have ever experienced this mental insanity of trying to moderate drinking, you will know what I am talking about here. “No drinking in the week!” “OK only one glass a day.” “I just can't get DRUNK.” “As long as I stop by 9PM.” It drives you crazy! Jen realised that alcohol was starting to take away from her far more than it was giving. And, perhaps, the need to drink at 5PM each day was driven by the previous day's drinking. It was a toxic cycle and she wanted to live in a radically new & free way and, deep down far under the wine haze, she knew it was possible. In Jen's own words, “I became intrigued by sobriety. Let us be clear: TERRIFIED but intrigued... Would my life be better if I stopped the moderation madness? I hadn't hit the stereotypical rock bottom, but did I really need to wait for that?! I decided to try and quit while I was still ahead and see if my life improved.” And so that is just what Jen did. Using her natural lawyer-fuelled research skills to get to the bottom of this mystery around alcohol addiction and the moderation madness, Jen embarked on a journey to not only heal herself but to empower others to do the same. Jen found the EASY path to quitting alcohol for good and, in doing so, to not feel deprived but to THRIVE. Her life transformed in a way that led her to feel liberated, happy and, finally, absolutely FREE. In this episode of The Honest Hour, Jen and I break down her journey of finding the EASE to a sober and thriving life. We talk about how addiction needs to be redefined and the toxic new socially acceptable “mommy drinking culture” of today. Making myself super vulnerable, as I always do, we talk about my own former alcohol abuse problem and how I medicated myself with alcohol to numb childhood trauma. We talk about an incredibly interesting science experiment dubbed “rat park,” and how if we address the root of WHY we abuse alcohol, or any act or substance for that matter, we may actually build ourselves a life we don't want to escape from.
