Ji Wallace was at the top of his career as a gymnast and acrobat when a terrible injury and surprising diagnosis brought him back down to earth, temporarily.Ji was an energetic, only child growing up on a bush block in suburban Brisbane when his parents brought home a trampoline to keep him occupied.Ji took to it so quickly, he learnt how to flip by that afternoon, and was a national champion in gymnastics just a couple of years later. He managed to make a career out of bouncing around, representing Australia at the Olympics and then joining Cirque Du Soleil as an acrobat. But a terrible injury, and then the news that he was HIV positive, set Ji on a different course, although he didn't let it keep him grounded. This episode of Conversations explores elite athletes, gymnastics, the Olympics, Brisbane 2032, parenting, coming out, the queer community, LGBT issues, andHIV and AIDS.

Health Benefits of Trampolining That You Didn't Know Click Here for a FREE 15 min Zoom Consultation With Brad: Steve Carver - JumpSport www.JumpSport.com/Fitness scarver@jumpsport.com  In this podcast interview, Brad Williams from "Over 40 Fitness Hacks" talks to Steve Carver from JumpSport about the benefits of using trampolines, particularly the JumpSport trampoline, for fitness and rehabilitation. The discussion covers a variety of topics, including how trampolines can benefit people with injuries, weak pelvic floors, and lower back problems. Steve and Brad delve into how trampolining can help those with injuries, such as ankle, knee, and lower back issues. Steve emphasizes the importance of engaging the core and stabilizer muscles while using the trampoline, highlighting its potential for rehabilitation and physical therapy. They also discuss the impact of trampolining on the pelvic floor muscles, specifically addressing incontinence issues in women and the importance of prostate health in men. The conversation explores the role of trampolining in reducing the impact on joints and the potential for a more varied and engaging exercise routine. Steve suggests that trampolining can be suitable for individuals with certain injuries, provided they have received clearance from their doctors. He mentions the potential for improved stability, core strength, and balance, all of which are crucial for rehabilitation and overall fitness. Steve and Brad also touch on the psychological benefits of trampolining, such as the release of "happy hormones" that can improve mood and focus. Steve invites listeners to visit JumpSport's website for more information on their products and how trampolining can be incorporated into various fitness routines. The interview provides valuable insights into the potential benefits of trampolining as a low-impact and engaging exercise option for people of all ages, particularly those looking for rehabilitation or safer alternatives to traditional workouts. To understand the integrity threats within sports, Sport Integrity Australia works in close partnership with everyone who holds a piece to the puzzle – including athletes. In this episode of On Side, join Tim Gavel as he chats to three of our Athlete Advisory Group (AAG) members - former Olympic rower Bronwen Downie, Paralympic triathlete Jonathan Goerlach and Blake Gaudry, a dual Olympic trampolinist. AAG chair Bronwen Downie says she wants to be part of the solution that allows young people to stay in sport. “There has to be conversations and we have to be able to hear those to understand what's actually happening in sports training centres, on sports fields and so that's where I think athlete voice is growing and it's really great to see that that is being supported through people like Sport Integrity Australia,” she says. Paralympic triathlete Jonathan Goerlach praised the “different perspectives” of the group. “The majority of the organisations and the athletes that are in sport in Australia and around the world don't have lived experience with disability and a lot of those policies and decisions that are made governing these sports don't always take into account people with disability because they don't have that lived experience.' A former trampolinist, Blake Gaudry, too, hopes his role in the Athlete Advisory Group will advance the voice of athletes within the agency. “Being on this committee, and being part of Sport Integrity Australia, I'm just keen to share those experiences and hopefully shape education and the message the right way so that in the future we can win the smart way, the safe way and, you know, the right way,” he says. “They're building a framework around member protection, child safety, and I think if we keep moving in that direction, we'll sort of see a sport that's a lot healthier, happier and athletes with the longevity that we want.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Brent Grundy was a man with a simple business idea who built his empire from the ground up, and became living proof that someone can go from flat broke to running a business that turns over $32 million per year, in just 18 months.  But Grundy’s road to success has been anything but smooth. An unfortunate but often present component of any success story is that of hardship or failure; and Brent Grundy’s story is no exception.   After a major business setback, Grundy found himself in the unenviable position of helplessly watching on as his money, home and dreams disappeared before his eyes. With barely enough money to fill a fuel tank, he prepared himself to break the devastating news to his young family that they wouldn’t be celebrating Christmas that year; the down and out businessman had hit rock bottom.   With nothing left to lose, he decided to accept his losses and turn his life around. With a renewed focus, Grundy was sitting in a play centre one day when staff told one of the older children that she was too big to play on the equipment. It was then that an idea came to him; to fill a gap in the entertainment market that caters to adults and children alike.   Today, Grundy is the Founder and Chief Executive of Australia’s first and largest Trampolining franchise business, Flip Out, and his story continues on its way into the history books. Since opening 18 months ago Brent’s business has enjoyed unprecedented success. Flip Out has expanded to a whopping twenty-one sites across the country, employing over 350 people and drawing thousands of customers through its doors each day.   Grundy’s accountant has said that in his 22 years of being in business, he has never witnessed an opportunity that allows the franchisee to recoup their initial investment within four to five months.   The zealous businessman now has his sights set on global domination; currently building centres in Dubai, Brent expects to open in 13 more countries in the next year. He also plans to use profits to donate centres to Afghanistan and Cambodia by year’s end.   In this interview you will learn: - What it feels like to have your company sold underneth you and come back even bigger and better - The importanace of systems and how to develop them in your business - What it takes to become a successful entrepreneur - How to develop a rock solid mindset where you can't lose - The franchising business, how it works and how to start - Secret growth strategies   I Need Your Help!   If you haven’t already, I would love if you could be awesome and take a minute to leave a quick rating and review of the podcast on iTunes by clicking on the link below.
