Erin spills all on her London Marathon adventure, tackling heat, humidity, and a sprained foot just three weeks after urgent care. Erin got lost and ended up in a creepy London cemetery with Dan after too many red wines. Erin bonds with her emotional support pal Emily, runs into Dave from NYC for a 14-mile run-walk-run lifeline, and chugs Lucozade like it's medicine while grabbing candy from strangers. The Sheraton Grand Park Lane hotel screams royalty, but Erin and Dan stick out like sore thumbs among marble and piano vibes. Erin get a PR trying to finish before dinner reservations. Post race, Erin becomes a Guinness World Record certificate holder for most marathon finishers. While a Bridgerton star sighting and a decadent Sunday roast fuel the victory lap. Plus, Sports Tours International saves the day with VIP buses and zero logistics stress. Packed with laughs, heart, and marathon madness, this episode's your fuel for your next run, walk, or wine fueled cemetery detour.Sports Tours Link:https://sportstoursinternational.com/event/tcs-london-marathon?utm_source=social+media&utm_medium=influencer&utm_campaign=erin+azarTune in to Tune out. As the captain of the Irish Rugby team, no doubt Caelan Doris is all about the nutrition, but back in his Mayo hometown, school lunches didn't have quite the same impact. The Leinster and Ireland legend joined Dave to chat about match prep, saunas and getting his face on a bottle of Lucozade
As heart-warming ends to a series go, they don't get much more heart-warming than this episode.Hypo Hounds is a diabetic alert assistance charity, helping children with type 1 diabetes by training assistance dogs to not only detect hypos, fetch testing kits or even bring a bottle of Lucozade, but helping children to live with more independence and freedom, and families to communicate better and feel less burdened by the challenges of type 1 diabetes. The woman behind Hypo Hounds is today's guest, Jane Pearman. Jane and her husband trained their first hypo dog, Scooby, to help their daughter Sophie after she was diagnosed with brittle type 1 diabetes as well as other major health complications at the age of 9. At the time Jane was checking Sophie's blood sugars every hour through the night, feeling understandably frightened and exhausted. They didn't know it at the time, but Scooby would inspire the journey to founding Hypo Hounds, which has now trained 54 dogs to date, reducing hospital admissions and giving children and their families much-needed independence and relief from the burden of living with diabetes. Thanks to the help of Scooby and her second Hypo Hound Dori, Sophie, now 22, lives independently and remains an incredible spokesperson for the charity. In this episode, Jon and I discuss System1, how they drive insights for marketers on the brand side, and what works in advertising today. Jon tells us about the differences he experienced from the client side to the agency side and gives an honest look into what it means to be a CMO day to day. He explains why the skills that make a great marketer aren't necessarily the same as those that make a great CMO and how balancing the long-term view of the brand with the daily execution of tasks can make the CMO job very lonely. CMOs, removed from the "doing," must focus on creating the conditions for success and representing the customer in the room where decisions are made. Jon tells us that successful CMOs quickly recognize talent on their team, harness creativity to drive business outcomes and understand that advertising is both an art and a science. Jon Evans is the Chief Customer Officer at System1 Group and host of the 'Uncensored CMO' podcast. For years before that, he was a client-side agency CMO. One of Jon's most formative roles was with Lucozade, where he learned the power of asking the right questions and why managing perception, not reality, is important in advertising. During his agency days, Jon was shocked to find out how little most agencies understood their clients, and he was perplexed by the hesitancy he saw agencies have towards talking to their clients or asking them important questions. Jon first encountered System1 as a client and, over time, became a member of the team, where he has been able to transition from a generalist to a specialist in consumer behavior. System1 was originally a research company based on behavioral science that explored why we buy what we buy, with the idea that emotion predicts most of our behavior. Today, they design simple yet clever questions about their clients' ads, innovations, or branding to ask people how they feel about it and what associations come to mind. They have turned their process into a platform so customers can upload content, send it to their target demographic, measure the response, and compare the results against other content to predict performance. They are using neuroscience to measure attention and emotion to understand why some ads work and others don't. Their clients use this data to allocate spending and sell their ideas to the rest of the c-suite. Jon tells us marketers are often overexposed to their products, so typically, the simplest ideas win out. I hope you all had a nice festive time! This episode should be airing on Boxing Day here in the UK, so enjoy your time off work and listen to a couple of chaps as the ‘gift' each other a Star Trek episode. Will we be overjoyed with festive cheer, or will we hope desperately that the other person kept the receipt? Also this one's a bit low energy, as Charlie was thick with a cold and there was quite a bit of lag on the line, so to counter this, maybe have a Lucozade or run about a bit as you listen. 00:00 Opening 05:45 The Original Series - The Conscience of the King 37:39 Enterprise - Future Tense There's a little nosebleed chat around 1:05 for about a minute if anyone's got issues with that and wants to skip forwards. Ibrahim Kamara's career began selling Lucozade at school. Now, he's the co-founder and CEO of GUAP, a seven-figure company that can rightfully be described as the home of emerging creatives. His early life was challenging, seeing his family go from financially wealthy to arriving home to see all their possessions outside on the street, when business took a turn for the worst and his parents separated. He openly shares the impact of witnessing domestic abuse in the home and how that inspired him to step up and provide for the family. Since the company was founded in 2015, GUAP has worked with some of the biggest companies in the world (Apple, Nike and more) and they've just announced the GUAP Gala. Supported by Instagram, the event will take place at the Natural History Museum, and promises to be an experimental award show focused on highlighting key individuals and brands in creative culture. In this episode, Ibrahim tells the story of how he made his dreams a reality, providing valuable advice for any aspiring entrepreneur. This is.... Phil & Jake are joined by returning friend (and author) Eirinie Carson to rank the British Pop group Spice Girls, the outfits that the British call shell suits, and British food on the List of Every Damn Thing.Follow Eirinie on Instagram (@eirinieeee) and Twitter (@Eirineee), and read her columns on Mother Mag. Her upcoming book The Dead Are Gods will be published by Melville House. If you have something to add to the list, email it to list@everydamnthing.net (or get at us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook).SHOW NOTES: The Spice Girls are, of course: Victoria Adams aka Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice, Geri Halliwell aka Ginger Spice, Melanie C aka Sporty Spice, Mel B aka Scary Spice and Emma Bunton aka Baby Spice. Was there a sixth Spice Girl? Kind of. Michelle Stephenson was briefly part of the group that would go on to become the Spice Girls. At the time of this writing, we can't provide a link to Lady Camden from Ru Paul's Drag Race because it would risk spoiling the season finale for ourselves. Lucy Pinder is, as Wikipedia tells us, a British actress, TV personality and former glamour model. Shes also joins Eirinie for going on "holiday" (aka vacation). Phil at some point got it into his head that she was a right-wing ideologue and it broke the spell she had over him. It's probably for the best, even if it wasn't true! We talk about the Spice Girls songs “Wannabe” and “2 Become 1”. The video featuring them in leather outfits is for the song "Say You'll Be There". 2 Live Crew are filthy Miami rappers who legally laid the foundation for all filthy rappers that followed. Mogul did an excellent series about them. We get into a little Chubby Checker discussion, including his songs “The Twist” and “Let's Twist Again”. Phil tells us about Don't Knock the Twist , is a movie that features Checker with a lot of associated acts including Dee Dee Sharp, who sings Mashed Potato time, one of Phil's favorites. Phil likes anything where the song tells you "It's the latest" or "it's the greatest" and Mashed Potato time does both. Robbie Williams is the cheeky chappie from Stoke. Harry Styles is Hazza? Dolly Parton is the Backwoods Barbie. Hank Williams is the Hillbilly Shakespeare. Phil mentions the 2013 Morgan Spurlock 3-D documentary about One Direction, This Is Us but then gets confused as to whether it exists or not. It does. Phil mentions the youtube video "A Scouser Tries The Wigan Kebab and Smack Barm Pea Wet" in which a guy from Liverpool travels 17 miles to Wigan to enjoy Smack Barm Pea Wet which is a roll with a potato that's been batter dipped and deep fried, served with the liquid that peas sit in. Turkey Twizzlers were a UK meat product that used to be served to children at schools until celebrity chef Jamie Olive raised a fuss about them. Bovril is a beef broth concentrate, formerly known as Johnston's Fluid Beef. Phil remembers a guy saying it's served hot in a disposable cup. Kit-Kat is a candy that originates in England but really hit its stride in Japan where they make many variant flavors and generally appreciate the brand. Lucozade is a sports drink, roughly akin to Gatorade that was originally sold at pharmacies. Kebab stands are places where you can buy kebabs. Phil said we don't really have them in America but it's not really true. In his old neighborhood in Queens they were all over. Phil mentions a shocking ad for breakfast in a can he saw in a lad mag. He was unable to find images because when people are preserving and scanning lad mags, their priority is the photos of Lucy Pinder or Lucy Collett and then when that's done they'll eventually get around to the horrifying pictures of canned sausage and eggs. The product was probably Hunger Breaks' All Day Breakfast. In the wise words of LL Cool J, "Don't call it a comeback, we've been here for years". Granted, mostly doing f*ck all and being ridiculous, but we've still been here sitting in our underwear contemplating our belly button fluff. So Scott is joined by Steevasaurus, and a ONCE AGAIN nearly dead Lurch! Do you remember when you were a kid that you had a pal who was always poorly? That kid who would rarely get invited out anywhere because he was tucked in bed watching Only Fools and Horses, and sooking on a Lucozade bottle? You know, the kid you inevitably would nickname 'Plaguey'. Well, that's Lurch. He tells us about his illness / Scott nearly dies at a swimming pool / Steev has been struggling with the bills / political correctness goes right out the window / We're five years old / How to vape with the 'Marry Joannas' (Allegedly) / Some sad news to end the show - All this and more on tonight's DHB Radio Show!
