This week on the UFD podcast I am joined by Akash Vaghela, the founder of RNT Fitness. Akash's journey from personal trainer to running a global online transformation business that's helped over 4,100 people across 28 countries is extremely impressive! In our conversation, we dove deep into how RNT Fitness evolved from chasing client numbers (they once had over 1,000 clients!) to strategically reducing to around 500 higher-paying clients. This shift not only made the business more manageable but significantly boosted their profit margins. Akash shared that this counter-intuitive move of working with fewer clients while charging more was absolutely transformational for both the business and his quality of life. Akash has been relentlessly consistent with articles, books, and his podcast - creating a content machine that positions RNT as the go-to experts in transformation coaching. This approach has allowed them to command premium prices in a typically price-sensitive industry. We also talked about the elephant in the room for fitness businesses - the impact of weight loss drugs like Ozempic and how they might reshape the industry. Akash shared some really thoughtful insights about how RNT is future-proofing their business model by focusing on the psychological and lifestyle aspects of transformation that medication alone can't address. For any entrepreneur looking to build a sustainable, profitable business that truly makes an impact, Akash's approach offers a masterclass in doing it right. Time to tune in, listen and learn! In this week's episode of the UFD podcast I am talking about something that I am really passionate about and addressing a challenge I see far too many of my clients facing. Your business is showing healthy profits on paper, but somehow your bank account isn't reflecting that success. If you've ever found yourself scratching your head at this disconnect, this episode is for you. I wanted to deep dive into why this happens, especially for those of you who've scaled to seven figures. It's that moment when you look at your P&L statement showing impressive profits but then glance at your bank balance and think "where did all the money go?" Been there myself, and it's exactly what prompted me to start Ultimate FD. Throughout this episode, I unpack the crucial difference between accounting profit and actual cash in your business. The accounting principles that recognise revenue before you've been paid can create this illusion of profitability while you're still chasing payments. One thing I'm particularly proud of is my approach to credit control. I've learned (sometimes the hard way!) that having strict payment processes isn't being difficult - it's just good business sense. When I implemented proper credit control systems, the difference to my cash position was night and day. Looking back at my own journey over the past year, I've seen tremendous growth in both revenue and team size at Ultimate FD. But that growth came with its own cash flow challenges that forced me to practice what I preach. The strategies I shared are the exact ones that helped me navigate that expansion. Remember, cash really is king. You can have the most profitable business on paper, but without cash, you're vulnerable. Hope this episode helps you bridge that gap between your profit figures and your bank balance! Drop me a message on socials if you've experienced this profit/cash disconnect in your business or if you have questions about implementing any of the strategies I discussed. UFD RESOURCES:
In this week's episode I am joined by UFD client Ashley Gray from Grey Electrical Contractors in the West Midlands. Ashley's been doing very well in the electrical contracting world while also building a pretty impressive property portfolio using the BRRR strategy (buy, refurbish, refinance). We got into the nitty-gritty of how Ashley transformed his business by getting serious about the financials. We all know cash flow is king, but hearing how Ashley shifted from taking any job that came his way to strategically pursuing long-term contracts that provide consistent revenue was eye-opening. Ashley shared some painful lessons about pricing - something I think a lot of us can relate to! He admitted to underpricing jobs early on because he wasn't properly accounting for all his overheads. Once he built proper financial models and forecasting tools, the game completely changed for him. Ashley's approach to employee retention is gold - he's created a culture where his team feels valued, and it shows in their loyalty. His journey from scrambling for jobs to building a stable, profitable operation is exactly the kind of real-world business evolution I love exploring on this podcast. It's time to dive in - I hope you enjoy! For this week's episode of the UFD podcast, I welcomed Colin McIntosh, the founder and CEO of Sheets & Giggles, a sustainable bedding company that's absolutely smashing it. Colin's journey is fascinating - he launched his company after being laid off in 2017, and within just two years was hitting $1 million in monthly sales. Colin transformed a simple concept - sustainable eucalyptus bed sheets - into a thriving business with a loyal customer base. He shared how his initial crowdfunding campaign was crucial to getting the business off the ground, essentially using customer pre-orders to fund production and validate his product concept. Colin's approach to marketing is refreshingly authentic and customer-focused. He explained how his background as a recruiter gave him valuable insights into leadership and building high-performance teams, which he's leveraged to grow Sheets & Giggles. Colin's side project is an AI-powered resume review and building service. Drawing from his recruiting experience, he's created a tool that provides job seekers with personalised advice at scale. The way he's using AI to extend his expertise to help more people is very impressive. Colin kept coming back to the importance of being customer-centric and genuinely trying to help others. Whether it's creating sustainable products that people love or helping job seekers land their dream positions, his philosophy centres on making a positive impact. We wrapped up with some solid advice on financial strategies for growing businesses and the importance of understanding every aspect of your business before delegating. Colin's approach of learning each business function himself before hiring specialists has clearly served him well. If you're interested in entrepreneurship, sustainable business practices, or how AI can be leveraged in unexpected ways, this episode is packed with insights you won't want to miss. Dive in and enjoy! You can connect with Colin via his socials below: https://www.linkedin.com/in/colindmcintosh https://www.instagram.com/colindmcintosh UFD RESOURCES:

SDF haven't really been around since 2017 due to various reasons, but since the return of another infamous Brighton institution of the dance music world "Upfront Dance" they are back to shake up the FM dial once again. As a support to their good friends from UFD, SDF will be running a series of weekly shows to keep live daytime output flowing on Brighton's Upfront Dance until they are no longer needed, unless of course SDF are asked to stay due to popular demand! How do you fight an unjust and racist system? Definitely not by being their good n***a. How do you find an unjust and racist system that uses the power of the state to grind people into the dirt? Currently, there's all this talk again about criminal justice and prison reform in the wake of all the violent protest resulting from the death of George Floyd. Here in New York state, the legislature was quick to pass legislation seemingly aimed at curbing police brutality. Here's my question though: didn't we already know that there was a big problem with how the police treat and interact with black, brown, and poor people? We black, brown, and poor people have known this intimately for several decades. So what has changed now? What happened to George Floyd isn't no surprise to us. So what has changed then? We have Governor Cuomo talking on TV about the systemic racism that existed in the criminal justice and prison systems, but we knew this already! What has changed now with Governor Cuomo and others now seemingly give a fuck. You know what has changed? Violence, mass fucking violence, because there has been mass protest for years that was peaceful. Black Lives Matter has been around for a while, but still George Floyd was murdered by police in cold blood. But this time there wasn't just mass protest. There was mass violence. Now politicians and governmental officials are seeing people getting real fed up with all the talk and half-baked attempts at reform. So these politicians and governmental officials are rushing to pass these laws to show they're paying attention, but it's a little front. You know how I knew? Because all of this has happened before. The violent protest will die down.People will get tired and have to go back to work when COVID-19 clears up. And the police, once again, we'll go back to cracking skulls. They do it behind these prison walls. My neighbor, Louis Perez, was beaten so bad by prison guards in Bare Hills Correctional Facility that he had a seizure and suffered a fractured head. Then they falsely prosecuted him for assaulting a prison guard who was struck with a baton by fellow guards. The guards here at Great Meadow punched Maurice Pennsbury five times in his face and then sprayed him with fire extinguishers. Last year, they murdered another prisoner. Who's protesting for us? Prison lives matter too.Now let's talk about the injustice I'm suffering. I've been in prison over 23 years since I was 17 years old, but I didn't hurt anyone. I've been placed in solitary confinement in February for possessing literature and materials about my UFD organization, to which I positiely organize, motivate, inspire, educate, and mentor young prisoners and work to steer them away from gangs, drugs and violence. Some of my supporters don't seem to get this. They don't seem to understand that the injustice and racism inherent in the criminal justice system and prison systems are why I'm still in prison and why UFD has been disapproved by DOCCS. These supporters say, "Mfalme, you should just focus on your freedom; if you keep doing the UFD thing, getting into trouble, it'll hurt your chances at clemency."Think about what these people are saying. UFD isn't a gang nor some violent or disruptive group. If anybody actually cared to look, they would see how UFD is inspiring young black and brown men to think seriously about change and betterment. UFD teaches them how to work together to achieve something positive and mutually beneficial. So people want me to give this up to placate a racist system that still has me in prison after 23 years even though I didn't hurt anyone, as if me giving up my UFD work will make the difference. You know what this bullshit sounds like? It sounds like the saying that George Lloyd, Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, and other victims of white violence were to just stop being black, they'd be alive today.Think about that, really think about what I just said when people suggest that if I just focused on my freedom and pushed UFD off to the side, there's suggesting that I give up my rights and have faith that this racist and unjust system will actually work so long as I be a good n***a and cause no trouble. It amazes me how naive people can be. I'm not still in prison for not being a good n***a. I'm still in prison because not enough people are expressing their anger with Governor Cuomo for keeping me here. UFD is actually my means to get attention for why I should be released.Any man willing to place himself and his freedom at risk to help young men, like he once was, to avoid the trap he fell into and to grow as the better people, then the public should be angry he isn't out there working to save at-risk youth before they get caught in the system. The truth? The problem isn't UFD or me exercising my constitutional rights. The problem is that the criminal justice and prison system are racist and unjust and politicians pay lip service about reforming them only until they're forced out. More people should be like me and speak truth to power, unafraid of the consequences. There's no compromising with racism and injustice. It's only the fight. This is Dontie S. I want to tell you a quick story about a young man who does 11 years in prison from the time he's 18. While in prison, he really doesn't learn how to be an adult or to handle adult responsibilities. Although he educated himself on some things, he never gets pushed or challenged to excel or to cultivate his potential except for the few short times his mentor and big brother is in the same room with him. Most of his time is spent idly, not necessarily by his own choice. Prison simply doesn't offer much of anything but the bare minimum. The few mandatory programs he does have to take are superficial; they don't really conform to his reality. His reality is one mostly filled with anxiety. He fears his past coming back to hurt him something he can't escape. He thinks his release from prison will relieve the stress and worry, but it doesn't.The first few weeks are a dream. After his release, everyone is happy to have him home and shower him with money and gifts. Slowly but surely, real life seeps in: work, bills, and drama after drama. He can't adjust. Parole expects him to cope. He tries to move to a better living situation with a childhood friend who has his own business in home. But parole says no, because him and his childhood friend were part of the same gang. Although it's obvious, neither are in the same gang anymore. So he's stuck in an increasingly stressful living situation. A family member is involved in reckless life threatened behavior. He tries to intervene and resolve what's going on. It's not working. The family member isn't listening, making matters worse. More stress. So he can't function beyond being there, automated. His ambition is dead. Most of his joy and happiness are gone. What does he do?I'm telling you his story on the failure of the criminal justice system to help with the reentry of prisoners back into society who go in as kids and come out as adults. Most have no real clue how to adjust to the pressures of everyday life, much less still living in the hood with all its beef in drama. How do you tell a guy released from prison who must parole to his old neighborhood where he has beef, that he must stay on the right track? How do you tell him to do the right thing when a family member has serious beef that can get deadly? Some who know nothing about hood culture will say he should go to his parole officer or to the police. And tell them what? Parole nor the police are equipped to resolve hood beef. All they can do is arrest people. But now the guy who went to them is labeled a snitch. Will parole or the police provide him or his family 24-hour presidential protection? Of course not. This is just one small example why more public funding should be diverted to community services. UFD could do more than the police or parole in helping to reduce violence in the community. There's a deep cultural problem in the hood poorly understood by prevailing criminologists and law enforcement experts. The problem isn't a question of criminality or bad behavior, but it's a question of socioeconomic survival. You need to have lived and experienced this to understand it. If society wants safety, invest in people. People will amaze you when you show them you care. This is Dontie S. The problem is that rich keep getting richer while the rest of us barely make ends meet. People must work two, three jobs just to live the American Dream. Many of you will have to shoulder heavy student debt just to get a college degree that you will have to pay off for most of your adult life. How has that fit? Don't we all deserve to enjoy the fruits of our labor if we're willing to work hard and earn our way? But don't we also deserve to earn a decent, livable wage that allows us to also enjoy our lives without having to work ourselves to death? Nothing is going to change until we create a people-centered economy that allows more black, Hispanic, and poor people to share in the wealth in this country. This is why racist cops keep shooting us down. This is why COVID-19 is killing us all. We lack wealth and power. People forget that not only was this country founded upon white supremacy, it is also based upon a capitalist system. For the most part, this is a dog-eat-dog economy. It's principally about competition. And of course, those who make the rules and run the system will tend to gain the advantage. Come on! This thing is as clear as day. Who mostly wins in this country? Affluent white people with a few token others. I think token, because white people are disproportionately more wealthy than black and Hispanic: 400 of the richest white people own more wealth than the entire black population and the entire Hispanic population. That's 400 people versus over 40 million people. So there's definitely no racial equality, even in the number of wealthy people in this country. Now, who mostly loses in this country? Black, Hispanic, and poor people, including poor white people. How can we expect to compete in this country when the system is rigged? We would like to believe racism is the principle reason why George Floyd and other unarmed black and brown people are gunned down by cops. We like to believe racism is the principle reason why COVID-19 is disproportionately killing black and brown people. Neither of these premises are accurately true. The principle issue here is wealth and power: who has it and who doesn't. So what we need to do is organize for wealth and power. All the rioting and looting, all the revenge violence against cops, and none of the protesting and marching, are the solutions for lasting change; wealth and power are.If you have money and influence, especially as a group, then people listen to you. They respect you. Cops don't kill wealthy and powerful people. They protect them. We just have to change the game. We have to organize for wealth and power from a grassroots level where we help one another achieve financial success and prosperity. This is what UFD and conscious money are all about. The conscious money model is: we all succeed by helping each other succeed. As an economic bloc, we can compete for a larger share of the wealth and power in this country. Then we will have a greater ability to shape public policy on policing, law enforcement, incarceration, and corrections. We number in the millions. How can 400 rich white people own more wealth than all of us? If a million of us pool our knowledge, experts, resources, and connections together, we can change the conversation in this country and begin to force politicians to reign in the power of the police state and to invest more into the communities that are being left behind. This is what UFD is working to do. If you're a young person who truly wants to fight for social justice and to make a better world. Then join with me to promote and expand UFD and to spread the conscious money. Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter at @freeDontieMitchell. When good people do nothing, tyranny reigns. Let us analyze why people are looting and rioting in the wake of George Floyd's death. It's cause people lose respect for law when the very people responsible for enforcing the law, break the law and keep getting away with it. Police brutality, prosecutorial misconduct, judicial bias, institutional racism, mass incarceration are all examples of the abusive authority that angers and frustrates people. How many times have police officers killed unarmed citizens and either gotten away with it or have gotten slapped on the wrist? When people witnessed this over and over and over again, they start to ask, "Why should I respect the law when the police don't?"But let us ask even deeper questions: where all the so called good cops? If most cops are good cops, then how can so many bad cops not get exposed until they murder someone in cold blood on video cameras? If the institution of law enforcement wasn't corrupt, then bad cops would get rooted out quick. It would be rare that a bad cops could brutalize people or kill unarmed citizens. Just think about it! From what I know, the police officer who killed George Floyd wasn't a rookie. How long has he been on the force? Nobody noticed nothing? Nobody noticed he was a bit too aggressive towards suspects or that he was a bit unprofessional? I've been incarcerated over 23 years. Corrections officers are really no different than police officers in their overall disposition and attitude. There are good correction officers who are laid-back and professional, then there are professional assholes who, who make it their business to be extra mean, extra aggressive. These are the ones who brutalized prisoners or set prisoners up they don't like, but how can they get away with it with the good correction officers around? It's because the idea of snitching, even among police officers and correction officers, is frowned upon. It's the blue wall or blue code of silence that rules. Being a whistleblower in almost any bureaucracy isn't celebrated nor encouraged. I can relate all this to my legal battle to get DOCCS to officially recognize and approve UFD. Good lawyers won't take on my case pro bono because they fear opening up a can of worms with DOCCS. What exactly does this mean? I really don't know, but I've recognized that there is an overall feeling that the corrections department isn't to be trifled with. The local news media won't even report on all the corruption and misconduct that goes on in the prison system, and judges tend to turn a blind eye to it.It seems like it takes extreme actions to bring about change. People riot and loot: the ages of the system pay attention. But none of the violence would be necessary if good cops, if good correction officers, if good prosecutors, if good lawyers, if good judges, and if good politicians stood up for justice and if they rooted out the corrupt, the violent, the abusive, the indifferent ones within their ranks. Until they do that, all their talk of law and order is just that: talk. This is Dontie S. Mitchell, better known as Mfalme Sikivu, reporting to you from Great Meadows Correctional Facility in Comstock, NY. Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter @freeDontieMitchell.
George Floyd and state power: what do you expect to happen? The death of George Floyd is on a long list of unarmed black people murdered by the police. His death is sad and tragic. Unlike similar deaths of others, his has unleashed a national wave of violence and anger not seen in this country in decades. It revealed that issues of racism are reaching a boiling point. What upsets me is how law enforcement officials and politicians want to label the violence we are seeing as criminal. I'm not a component for senseless violence, but one has to ask the question: when the very people entrusted to uphold and enforce the law who are sworn to protect and serve, turn around and murder defenseless people, what do you expect will happen? When this happens over and over and over again, and nothing really changes after all the talk, what do you expect will happen? There's going to be an erosion of law and order. If law enforcers break the law, then people will lose respect for the law. Condemning the looters and rioters is to ignore the cause of their looting and rioting. The cause is the abuse of authority by those in authority. This abuse of authority happens every day, not just to black or brown people. It happens to all people: black, brown, and poor people simply get it the worst because racism is added into the mix along with classes, but poor white people catch hell, too. What we are seeing is the spilling over of the anger and frustration at how the state apparatus keeps failing to serve and protect the people. Because they can't. The condemnation of looters and rioters is a defensive reaction of the agents of the state and law enforcement hawks who are threatened by the exposure of the very contradiction of state power in America. And that contradiction is that state power in America doesn't really serve the working class nor the poor, especially if you're black or Hispanic, but yet it is upon the backs of the working class and the poor that the state derives its legitimacy. In prison, you can see this contradiction so vividly. Most prisoners are black, Hispanic, and poor white people. Most prison guards are white, most prison administrators are white and upper-middle-class, and prison guards and prison administrators abuse their authority regularly. They don't respect the law, they violate the law to brutalize and harass prisoners. A prison guard punched Maurice Pennsbury five times in the face. When his mother and my supporters complaints of the prison guards sprayed him with fire extinguishers. And I'm not even going to mention the harassment I'm being subjected to. So who will be at fault when prison riots break out or when prison guards are attacked. Me personally, I exhaust all my administrative and legal remedies to protect and vindicate my rights. But my administrative complaints are often ignored or swept under the rug and my state and federal lawsuits somehow always end up before judges who are biased against prisoners. When the system doesn't work, when people means are ignored, what do you expect will happen? This is Dontie S. It seems to me that prison officials don't want to accept responsibility for their own conduct. However, they will punish those of us who are behind these walls for the things that we do wrong. For instance, I went to law library, um, a couple of days ago, um, after not receiving my call out, so I had to, you know, speak to a couple of officers and a sergeant to try to get me down there. And then the officer there, uh, in the law library, he got extremely upset. His name is CO McKinnon, and he's basically, you know, catching an attitude with me, saying that, you know, I'm being a pain in the ass. So when I attempted to try to explain to him that the call outs that, uh, are usually passed out and the galleries, the block, weren't passed out, so I had to, you know, go through the chain of command and make sure that I was able to get down to the law library. So he receives a few calls and he just went ballistic, but instead of addressing the issue of the fact that the call out slips are not being passed out or they're not being printed, you know, he wants to blame the prisoner, me, for exerting my rights to be able to go down into the law library to fight all these different lawsuits that I have against the state to try to make conditions better. So, you know, then he threatens me and says, you know, you keep this up, then I'll make sure you never get down to the law library, and it's stuff like that that just doesn't make sense. Then, on May 20th, 2020, uh, a young kid named Maurice Pennsbury, he's only 19 years old, and if you look at him, you know, you would think that he's 14. He's a baby face, slim kid, can't weigh no more than 130-145 pounds. And you know, the officer on his company, which is E6, named Theo Weller decided that he was going to go into the young man cell and assault him, punches him five times in his face, causing him to suffer, uh, three cuts on his left eye that run to his nose, and then he takes them to Theo, takes the kids' TV. Then, because myself and his, you know, his mom and a few others, you know, had complained about it, uh, a couple of other officers named CO LaFlesh and CO Brown decided that they were going to take fire extinguishers on May 22nd, 2020 and spray the kids in their cells for one minute. Now, this is a young man that I initiated into my UFD organization, and I take it extremely personally that these correction officers would utilize such abusive practices in order to, uh, you know, exert, what they consider some type of punishment, for what? For him exerting—for him asserting his right to be free from, um, assault. CO Weller shouldn't have assaulted him, so why shouldn't he complain? What was he supposed to do, accept it?But this is the type of stuff that goes on on a daily basis here, especially under the watch of the superintendent, Christopher Miller, who also has a personal grudge against me. And this is one of the reasons why they don't want to approve UFD as—a prison chapter of UFD here, this facility and other places, cause they don't want me to teach some of these younger prisoners on how to defend themselves legally and administratively when their rights are being trampled on. And it's sad, because we need help, we need to help with the public to be able to bring attention to what's going on and, as a result of the public not being able to scrutinize what's going on, these correction officers keep going on and keep doing it and keep going, so what I want to tell you is that I hope that the public is vigilant to what's going on and will speak up about it and allow for there to be change. So I'm asking people to join the Dontie Mitchell support committee Facebook group, and to join with me in being able to exert—to bring light to what's going on. And all I need i 1000 people who are just willing to join and participate with others in what we call phone zaps and email blasts to either the governor's office, state legislators, even the media to show that there are people who are paying attention and that we care. I'm just asking for 1000 of you please to join the Dontie Mitchell support committee; I'm not asking for much, but maybe one or two phone calls, one or two emails so that we can show a collective voice that there are people who are paying attention, who care about what's going on. Cause there's much more that's going on here.Like even the phone situation, how guys have to keep beefing just to get on the phones. There's only 35 phones out here and it's about 300 guys that come out here on a daily basis and it creates a great conflict. And the administration here has known about this situation, this particular problem as long as I've been here because I've been one of the most vocal voices about it, you know, and during this COVID-19 pandemic, they have us crowded on bleachers in order to get on a phone line. So I'm just asking for people, you know, if you're conscientious, you care, please join the Dontie Mitchell support committee, just 1000 people who are willing to join and participate in our phone zaps and email blasts to those people who can make change.Thank you, this is Dontie S. "Never ask someone to go somewhere that you're not willing to go with them." Tom and Jeremiah called her up to learn about her studies, the aesthetic and ethical significance of this type of storytelling, and vulnerability it brings out at every step. Then, we answer a question from one of our Patreon supporters, and go deep into why we think it's important to take time every episode for a land/territory acknowledgement, the reasoning behind the specific language around that, and the heavy history and reality at the root of it all.
